This article addresses experiences of transnational end-of-life care among aging Filipina migrants before and during COVID-19. de Leon addresses the emotional costs associated with loving and losing kin from a distance both before and during the pandemic, drawing on their autobiographical account of distant care by proxy during their aunt's wake and funeral. Blower-Nassiri highlights the exacerbated fears and anxieties around dying, illness, and end-of-life among aging migrants, drawing on two life histories of retired nurses who recalled moments of loss and being absent for end-of-life events, such as funerals, before and during the pandemic. Together, de Leon and Blower-Nassiri provide an intimate portrait of three Filipina migrants' experiences with end-of-life care and loss. They further address the limitations of the life course framework in their consideration of how care carries on, across generations through end-of-life practices and rituals that signal an accrual of loss over time. A 24‐year‐old female nurse with a 4‐month history of low back pain (LBP) was treated with acupuncture because of difficulty to her working. At the first presentation, the numerical rating scale (NRS) value was 7. After 2 weeks, the NRS value improved to 2–3, and she could bend over better, including when working night shifts. After 4 months, the NRS value remained at 1–2 so her relocating or leaving of absence from the ICU department was avoided. ABSTRACT Objective Methods Results Conclusions This study aimed to evaluate research trends and hot topics in the 45‐year history of nursing studies on hypertension (1979–2024).This retrospective bibliometric analysis study was conducted with 2678 data obtained from the WoSCC database on April 1, 2024. Data analysis and graphical presentation were presented using the Bibliometrix Package in R software, VOSviewer, and WoSCC.The study revealed that nursing studies on hypertension were growing rapidly in the scientific world. The most productive journal in the field was the Journal of Clinical Nursing, while the most productive and collaborative country was the United States. “Frailty,” “COVID‐19,” “complications,” “Meta‐analysis,” “vital signs,” “systematic review”, “self‐care,” and “chronic disease” were determined as hot topics. “COVID‐19” and “mhealth” were global trends. Additionally, the issues of “anxiety, pair, vital signs” and “elderly, nursing home, mortality” needed to be addressed more by nurses.Nursing studies on hypertension have increased to date. This area is likely to continue to be an active area of study for nursing researchers in the coming years. Occupational Health Nursing (OHN) has followed a complex path to build and strengthen its theoretical basis. Starting with Public Health core principles, theories were shaped by the dualism of person worker and working environment, where sometimes the centre of the thought was given to the latter and other times to the former. The problem was not much on such conflict but on the definition of the correct OHN focus and whether genuine nursing knowledge was being applied. We are worried that other disciplines radically influenced the theoretical path taken by OHN theorists. To approach this problem, a unitary‐transformative perspective can help us describe and analyse this phenomenon and engage scholars to reflect upon the accurate epistemological focus of OHN. The imperative to decolonise health disciplines underscores the need for a critical examination of the coloniality of nursing knowledge development. Decolonising nursing requires epistemic resistance aimed at exposing and dismantling epistemological hierarchies that marginalise indigenous knowledges. This paper introduces the 'Pluriverse of Nursologies' as paradigm to guide decolonial theorising in nursing. Through a four‐part exploration, I first elucidate the coloniality embedded in mainstream nursing knowledge. Next, I offer a decolonial critique of Fawcett's nursing metaparadigm as an exemplar of pyramidal epistemology. I then discuss pluriversality as an approach to decolonising nursing knowledge. Finally, I introduce the Pluriverse of Nursologies (PoN) as a meta‐theoretical paradigm for theory and knowledge development that decentres and dismantles the pyramidal epistemology of colonial/modern nursing, and relinks diverse nursologies from marginalised communities to the centre of intellectual nursing discourse, thereby revitalising the theoretical landscape of the discipline. In this manuscript, we explore the connections between Florence Nightingale's Cassandra and Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own while taking the authors' personal and social contexts into account. We conduct a detailed textual analysis from a feminist perspective. Cassandra and A Room of One's Own exhibit singular textual commonalities, such as evidence of trauma, the integration of myth and fiction as literary devices aimed at facilitating the author's access to various social spheres, the use of interpellations to impact the audience, and an argument for education as a path by which privileged women can enter the public realm. Objectives: Nitrogen isotopes (δ15N) are widely used to study human nursing and weaning ages. Conventional methods involve sampling 1‐mm thick sections of tooth dentine—producing an averaging effect that integrates months of formation. We introduce a novel protocol for measuring δ15N by multicollector secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). Materials and Methods: We sampled dentine δ15N on a weekly to monthly basis along the developmental axis in two first molars of healthy children from Australia and New Zealand (n = 217 measurements). Nitrogen isotope ratios were determined from measurements of CN− secondary molecular ions in ~35 μm spots. By relating spot position to enamel formation, we identified prenatal dentine, as well as sampling ages over more than 3 years. We also created calcium‐normalized barium and strontium maps with laser ablation‐inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry. Results: We found rapid postnatal δ15N increases of ~2‰–3‰, during which time the children were exclusively breastfed, followed by declines as the breastfeeding frequency decreased. After weaning, δ15N values remained stable for several months, coinciding with diets that did not include meat or cow's milk; values then varied by ~2‰ starting in the third year of life. Barium did not show an immediate postnatal increase, rising after a few months until ~1–1.5 years of age, and falling until or shortly after the cessation of suckling. Initial strontium trends varied but both individuals peaked months after weaning. Discussion: Developmentally informed SIMS measurements of δ15N minimize time averaging and can be precisely related to an individual's early dietary history. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A theoretical paper which considers the previous multiple attempts by nursing to engage with and usefully apply the theories of psychoanalysis to varying aspects of the nursing role. References to psychoanalysis within the nursing literature of the last century are reviewed and the legitimacy of the use of psychoanalytic theory 'outside the clinic' explored with reference to general hospital nursing in the UK's National Health Service. Themes explored include unconscious motivation behind nursing as a career choice, with associated risks of stress and burnout when the unconscious drive to heal is thwarted. Psychoanalytic consideration of nurse-patient relationships provides insight into the patient experience on hospital wards, whilst exploration of other aspects of the nursing role was found to be limited. From a wider perspective, psychoanalysis offers nursing an insight into societal changes impacting the profession. The systems and processes of the healthcare institution have also been explored, particularly in relation to containment of anxiety, though limited practical impact has resulted from the psychoanalytic insight encountered in the literature. The limited engagement between psychoanalysis and general nursing is considered from both a psychoanalytic and nursing perspective; ongoing potentiality for enriching dialogue between the disciplines is established and potential barriers explored. This article explores the century-long history of psychiatric nursing through the dual lens of behavioral health and social justice, emphasizing the pivotal role of psychiatric nurses in mental health. Focused on the contributions of nurse members and leaders from the American Orthopsychiatric Association (later known as the Global Alliance for Behavioral Health and Social Justice), the article will provide a comprehensive timeline that showcases the evolution of the field. It will discuss diverse aspects of psychiatric nursing, including role development, work with children and families, minority populations, integrated care, mental illness prevention, mental health promotion, community mental health, and global mental health nursing. Moreover, the article will identify and examine barriers that have historically hindered, and continue to impact, the practice of psychiatric nursing and the delivery of quality mental health care universally. The influence of culture and stigma on mental health and the profession will be discussed, shedding light on how these factors have shaped psychiatric nursing. The article will delve into the future direction of the field, emphasizing the growing importance of global mental health, integrated care, workforce development, and the continued need for interdisciplinary collaboration. Through this exploration, the article aims to offer insights into the significant progress and enduring challenges faced by psychiatric nursing, ultimately underscoring its indispensable role in advancing mental health and social justice. Public Policy Relevance Statement: From a public policy perspective, this article underscores the urgency of addressing workforce shortages, fostering international collaborations, promoting evidence-based and culturally sensitive practices and advocating for equitable access to mental health services worldwide. Aim: This paper discusses the development and progression of the advanced practice nurse practitioner role in Africa. Background: Providing adequate primary health care is problematic in Africa. The World Health Organization and International Council of Nurses proposed that nurses, specifically advanced practice nurse practitioners with the requisite skills in disease prevention, diagnosis and management, can be key to solving the primary care issue. Sources of evidence: This paper utilized publications from PUBMED, CINAHL, policy papers, websites, workgroups, conferences, and the experiences and knowledge of authors involved in leading and moving forward key events and projects. Discussion: Four African countries have formally adopted the advanced practice nurse practitioner role, with significant interest from countries throughout Africa, and ever‐increasing requests for assistance regarding initiation, development and integration of advanced practice roles. Initiatives to advance the roles have been supported by the International Council of Nurses Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse Network and Global Academy of Research and Enterprise. Next steps and projects for future role development are discussed. Conclusions: There is a progression towards the adoption of the advanced practice nurse practitioner role in Africa, and further mechanisms are suggested to allow full uptake and utilization. Implications for nursing practice: Prioritization and investment in initiatives implementing nurse practitioner/advanced practice nurse roles in Africa allows nurses to pursue further education, advanced role and leadership opportunities consistent with Nursing Now goals. Implications for health policy: Implementation of nurse practitioner/advanced practice nurse roles increases the primary care workforce, consistent with recommendations and priorities in the World Health Organization Global Strategic Directions for Nursing and Midwifery 2021–2025 helping countries ensure that nurses optimally contribute to achieving universal health coverage and other population health goals. The University of São Paulo School of Nursing celebrated its 80th anniversary in October 2022 and consolidates a historic trajectory of building bridges with society. Pioneering was its trademark, starting with the building that houses the School in a contemporary style, by accepting men and black women in the nursing course in the 1940s. Syphilis, a difficult disease to diagnose, at the 20th century, caused social panic in Spain. Objective to reveal the advances related to the treatment of syphilis and discover the health policy for the fight against venereal disease, between 1900 and 1953. Methodology through the heuristic method, a meticulous documentary analysis was carried out in both direct and indirect sources. Results, addressing the venereal-syphilitic disease was a priority for the Spanish health authorities, due to the impact of this pathology on the country's economy. Therefore, the chance discovery in 1928 of Peniciliumnotatum represented a revolution in the treatment of syphilis. However, health authorities, concerned about the morbidity of this pathology in the midst of the Spanish Civil War, promoted innovative public health projects, which were a historical milestone. Conclusion, thanks to the creation of the corps of Visiting Professional Nurses, the syphilitic patient was treated comprehensively, confidentially and free of charge, a fact that, associated with the campaigns to promote sexual hygiene habits and antivenereal sexual education that they developed, this group of nurses achieved a reduction in the mortality rate from syphilis. During the Second Republic in Spain, high infant mortality led the government to implement health policies focused on prevention and health promotion. The National School of Puericulture was created, highlighting the importance of specialized training to address child health. Despite being founded in 1923, the institution consolidated its activities and statutes in 1935. The training of Puericulture Visitors at the school was crucial to act as a link between doctors and families, promoting health education. During the period before the civil war, training activities intensified, and the School became essential for the implementation of preventive policies. With the outbreak of the civil war in 1936, the situation changed dramatically. Despite adapting to the new circumstances, with the calling of abbreviated courses, the commitment to training specialized professionals remained. Calls, such as the one in 1937 in Valencia, reflect the need for trained personnel amid the war. This study reveals the importance of health policies in crisis contexts and the adaptation of training to changing circumstances, emphasizing the relevance of maintaining attention to childhood even in times of emergency. Objective: The study aims to identify the effects of the University Reform during the 1978-1982 management of the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto School of Nursing (EERP-USP). Methodology: Study in the field of History, in the area of History of Nursing, taking the Micro-History approach. To reach its objective, the study used Thematic Oral History. Results: The advances identified in management were related to human resources, physical infrastructure, consolidation of postgraduate courses, regulations and training of health professionals. As effects of the University Reform, it was observed the requirement, at the University of São Paulo, of the category of full professor for the exercise of direction, a fact that led to sixteen years of direction by non-nurse professors, adherence to the unification of the vestibular, the consolidation of graduate studies and curricular changes. Final Remarks: The study focused on the work of the two leaders at the time, but it is inferred that other people may have exercised leadership in the realization of the advances recorded in the minutes of the faculty board. Objective: To examine the development and challenges of public health nursing education in China during the period of the Republic of China (1912‐1949). Methods: This study utilized a historical research design that combined a social framework and a policy framework to explore the early history of public health nursing education in China. Historical data were collected from periodicals, newspapers, archives, books and other sources. Results: Public health was integrated into the nursing school curriculum for the first time during the period of the Republic of China, and health facilities and nursing schools conducted early explorations of public health nurse training. However, public health nursing education faced difficulties in terms of the curriculum, personnel training, and the localization of education. Conclusions: The achievements and difficulties associated with public health nursing education in China during the period of the Republic of China provide a historical reference for the integration of public health into current basic nursing education and the compatibility between the training of public health nurses and practical needs. Professionalized nursing and anarchism could not be more at odds. And yet, if nursing wishes to have a future in the precarious times in which we live and die, the discipline must take on the lessons that anarchism has on offer. Part love note to a problematic profession we love and hate, part fever dream of what could be, we set out to think about what nursing and care might look like after it all falls down, because it is all falling down. Drawing on alternate histories, alternate visions of nursing history, we imagine what nursing values would look like, embracing anarchist principles. We consider examples of community survival, mutual aid, and militant joy as strategies to achieve what nursing could be if nurses put an end to their cop shit, shrugging off their shroud of white cisheteropatriarchal femininity that manifests as professionalism and civility. The history of antipsychotics in nursing facilities is one piece of a much larger, more complex puzzle. In many ways, it reflects the virtues and limitations of the entire health care system and those who provide care. None of the issues related to the use of antipsychotics are specific to these medications or to nursing facilities. After decades of effort to reduce unwarranted antipsychotics use, the current situation is still a work in progress. Many widely held assumptions and standard narratives, such as those about behavior, the place of medications in person-centered care, and the causes of inappropriate medication use are only partially correct. This second of three articles is not intended to discuss how to diagnose and manage behavior disorders or choose medications. Instead, it addresses the diverse perspectives and key players that have been involved and the results of their efforts. Ultimately, this will set the stage for specific recommendations (part 3) about learning from past efforts surrounding antipsychotics to identify more definitive and lasting improvements in the future. Part 1 of this series covered the history of attempts to influence use of medications--especially, antipsychotics--in nursing facility care of residents with behavior, mood, and cognitive issues. These improvement efforts can be described as fragmented, often ineffectual, and politically fraught. After decades of effort, and despite a significant reduction in the indiscriminate use of antipsychotics, psychotropics are still widely used in nursing facilities.1 The extent of improvement overall in managing individuals with dementia and other diverse behavior, mood, and cognitive issues is unclear. The General Hospital of Mexico, "Dr. Eduardo Liceaga" (HGMEL), pioneer of the first Nursing school, has for generations been interested in contributing to the education and continuous training of Nursing staff. It is a leading institution as a trainer of human resources in Nursing, it has seen fit to adhere to new educational models to strengthen student learning with the purpose of providing quality and safe care, in accordance with the needs of the National System Health, had the need to migrate from a traditional educational model to a competency-based model, making use of clinical simulation, with the purpose of strengthening the knowledge and skills of Nursing staff, as well as having cognitive tools based in critical thinking, providing holistic care, achieving positioning in the health team. Introduction: Maria José Bezerra, a black woman born in the city of Limeira, São Paulo, hero and symbol of the 1932 Constitutionalist Revolution, was a war nurse recognized for her strength, courage, patriotism and abnegation. Objective: To historicize Maria José Bezerra's personal and professional life trajectory. Methodology: Biographical research based on bibliographic and documentary records. Results: Maria José Bezerra acted as a nurse member of the Black Legion in the Civil War of the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, stood out for her achievements, with active contribution in the construction of the country's history. Conclusion: Black invisibility translates as injustice, inconsistency of rights, and even acts that try to discredit the individual in their individual and collective aspects. The study of the trajectory of this woman fighter constitutes a strategy to give voice, strength and meaning to make public the history of a representative of the black population, and the theme should also be included in academic curricula. The Nordic country Faroe Islands consists of 18 mountain islands situated in the North Atlantic Sea. In the late 1800s, nursing in the Faroe Islands was behind international standards. A transition towards organised nursing commenced when Danish deaconesses arrived in 1897; their missions were to serve as nurses and train Faroese women in nursing. The overall aim of this research is to add to the history of Faroese nurses' training and work during the first decades of the 1900s, decades when Faroese nursing became visible through the presence of deaconesses and trained nurses. With historiographic and biographic approaches and in the context of Faroese history and nursing theory and research, we present accounts about four Faroese nurses' living, training and work during the three first decades of the 1900s. These years were progressive for Faroese nursing in hospital care and public health around on the islands, and a struggle to combat tuberculosis took place. We conclude by emphasising the importance of considering the beginning of professional nursing in a small faraway country where resilient nurses worked with ingenuity and often exceeded geographic and professional boundaries to help and support sick and injured compatriots, promoting their health and well-being. ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze nurse Josicélia Dumêt Fernandes’ life story, with emphasis on her work in the psychiatry and mental health fields. Methods: historical, qualitative research. Semi-structured interviews and documentary research were used as data collection techniques, collected from September to October 2021. For data analysis, we opted for the content analysis method and comparison with the Foucauldian philosophical framework. Results: four categories emerged: Transforming herself and mental health practices; (Re)framing professional practice; Nursing practice and power relations; and The paths and implications in the psychiatry and mental health fields. Final Considerations: the study of the biographer demonstrates a search for transformation of herself and mental health practices, with a rupture in paradigms and reframing of her practice in psychiatry and mental health.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the role of nursing in the establishment of an HIV/AIDS Testing and Counseling Center in a Brazilian municipality. Methods: a historical study utilizing primary sources, including documents and oral accounts, involving a total of ten participants. The study encompasses the years 1997 and 1998. The research took place at the Testing and Counseling Center in São João de Meriti. Data was collected from March to May 2022. Results: nursing made significant contributions through the development of training initiatives led by nurses, who were also responsible for individual and group counseling, as well as HIV testing requests. Final Considerations: nursing played a crucial role in the center and in the management of Sexually Transmitted Infections, being involved in all stages of treatment in accordance with current public health policy.

Chile during the early twentieth century, had a social and health reality of deficiencies that was reflected in a high prevalence of infectious diseases, low life expectancy of people and a high rate of infant mortality. In this context, the government encourages specialization strategies for nurses in the United States, with a socio-sanitary approach. Sofia Pincheira, was one of the first commissioners to pursue this specialization and upon returning to Chile, wrote the document «Contribution to the study of the Organization of Nursing Schools in Chile (1934)»in which she explicit premises for the professionalization of nursing care. OBJECTIVE.with the purpose of contributing to the construction of knowledge of Latin American Nursing, the objective is to revisit Sofía Pincheira’s discourse, based on a documentary historiographical analysis of her writing in 1934, according to Skinner’s theoretical assumptions. CONCLUSIONS.Your proposal constitutes an adaptation to the national reality of the policies implemented in first world countries to deal with the health contingency of the time and in particular the training of nurses. Under this logic, its approach is innovative, since, by strengthening the body of nursing knowledge, it vindicates the social role of the Chilean woman-nurse through university education.

(1) Background: The role of Al-Andalus's women were the result of Arabization and Islamization in Spain. The 10th to the 14th centuries were a time of significant cultural diversity in the region. Female physicians and midwives were important for providing care to women. Despite existing studies, there is still a lack of focused research on the professionalization of these trades, including their requirements, intervention areas, and treatments. (2) Methods: To address this gap, we conducted a scoping review using the dialectical structural model of care (DSMC). Primary medical and legislative sources were used. (3) Results: two kinds of midwife, or qābila, were discovered, along with a woman physician, or ṭabība, who also acted as a midwife. These professions underwent diverse training and fulfilled duties as obstetricians and pediatricians. Midwives were esteemed members of society and were the sole female professionals who needed qualified training. Their performance in the courts was exemplary. Tools for facilitating childbirth and interventions related to female health were discovered in the study. (4) Conclusions: The patriarchal societies suffer from significant inequality in terms of academic training, knowledge transmission, and healthcare provision. Fanny Bré was a volunteer nurse in the International Brigades, who fought in the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) on the side of the democratically elected Republican government. The objective of this study is to understand the relationship between Bré's antifascist ideas, her conception of care and the activities she carried out in the Spanish hospitals of Casa Roja (Murcia), Villa Paz (Selices, Cuenca) and Vic (Barcelona). We use narrative biography to describe Bré's personal, political and professional trajectory. To do so, we conducted a content analysis of primary sources archived in Spain, Russia and France and secondary sources that emerged from a thorough literature review. We identified three thematic axes: (1) a concept of nursing in the service of the antifascist struggle, (2) nursing activity for high‐quality care and (3) political action for improving hospital organisation and care. The interest of Bré's texts transcends the war in Spain because, in them, Bré questions the neutrality of care by revealing that care can itself be a political act. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores social group work with Aramaic Syrian refugees who fled to Germany during and after the migration wave of 2015. Held in an intercultural center that is sponsored by the Diakonie, the welfare organization of the Protestant church, the group supports older adults as they process biographical breaks associated with disaster, war, and migration. The existential nature of the group's purpose is theoretically framed by Pierre Bourdieu's habit theory and Jonathan Lear's concept of "a good, successful life." In contrast to the goal of integration, which reflects the perspective of the host society, group work allows for cultural negotiation among newcomers, their families, and host populations. Background: Faculty in nursing and history at Creighton University directed two service-learning courses on the history and public health implications of lead (Pb) exposure in Omaha, NE. As part of their service requirements, students conducted or observed blood lead screenings in area schools and reflected on these shared experiences in discipline-specific coursework. Strong student response encouraged the faculty to enrich transdisciplinary teaching and learning between these two courses. Although studies supply numerous best practices to develop collaborative experiences and service-oriented pedagogies, little work focuses on enriching collaborations between preexisting courses. Purpose: This study examines the outcomes of a partnership between nursing and history and presents a practical model that instructors can use to foster and deepen transdisciplinary service-learning. Methodology: Employing a hybrid grounded theory/topic modeling analysis of student reflection papers, we identify course outcomes of closest convergence. Findings/Conclusions: We argue that instructors can deepen transdisciplinary partnerships between service-learning courses by focusing on a common exemplar, encouraging collaborative experiences in the classroom and at service sites, and employing civic health as a shared concept in curricula. Implications: Beyond nursing and history, our model may be employed by faculty in preexisting service-learning courses to bring their courses into transdisciplinary convergence. Consulting manuals of the History of Nursing, it can be appreciated how it is from Nightingale when considering the birth of modern or professional Nursing. However, this belief could be a black legend, because before the 19th century there was already awareness of Nursing as a profession, being this initiated by Juan de Dios, the one from Granada, in the Spanish 16th century. For this reason, in this article we have set the objective of describing the care of Juan de Dios following the model of human needs described by Henderson, together with care in agony and post-mortem. To do this, we use the historiographical methodology following the current of the history of mentalities, so that we can go from the past to the present, and vice versa. In the documentary analysis we have been able to observe how what we find today systematized in a theoretical way was already carried out at the beginning of the nursing reform of the Spanish 16th century, being a valid model for current Nursing, since it is found in its being, knowing, and doing, the concepts of the current nursing metaparadigm, although not explicitly, since its intention, more than theoretical, was care, although behind it there was a corpus of doctrine independent of other socio-health disciplines. In the period of the First Republic in Portugal, during the First World War, professional re-education was implemented, based on the teaching experience of Casa Pia in Lisbon, and was particularly important in the recovery of mutilated and maimed soldiers. Objective: To interpret and analyse the nurses' practices in the professional re-education of Portuguese soldiers at the Santa Izabel Institute for the Re-education of War Mutilates at Casa Pia in Lisbon during the First World War. Methodology: Use of the historical method to synthesise the historical narrative. Results: Important references can be found in the Casa Pia of Lisbon Yearbooks to the functions carried out by the nurses, namely "the propaganda that the nurses made to the wounded about the advantages of re-education"; the "massotherapy treatment"; "the massage treatments" and also to the "extremely important role" of the ladies (nurses) in the "small infirmary" headed by Dr V. Pontes where there was a small "massotherapy" service, a "provisional prothesis" workshop and a laboratory for examining aptitudes. Conclusion: This confirms that the nurses played an important role in the "preparatory re-education" services at the Santa Izabel Institute for the Re-education of Mutilated People at Casa Pia in Lisbon, intervening in a distinctive and effective way, earning good recognition. The objective of this article is to vividly evoke the shared experiences with Professor and researcher Francisco Herrera-Rodríguez and to explicitly outline the most significant aspects of his contribution to the history of medicine and nursing, based on both historical research and narrative, highlighting his strong commitment and dedication to literary sources. The methodology employed has focused on autobiography, recalling shared moments in academic, artistic, literary, and leisure contexts; that is, the creation of autobiographical life stories focused on the times when various interactions occurred between Francisco Herrera-Rodríguez and the author. The results demonstrate the importance of Francisco Herrera-Rodríguez's contributions to the history of medicine and nursing. Likewise, the great humanistic quality of the mentioned researcher is evident. Conclusions: Francisco Herrera-Rodríguez, through the cultivation of his favorite passions--historical research, literature, drawing, painting, and art in general--emerged as a profound humanist who positively influenced the education of historians in the fields of medicine and nursing. Introduction: Bone marrow transplants primarily depend on people who previously registered to be donors. From then on, the search for compatibility between donor and recipient begins. Objective: To describe the historical landmarks and the legal apparatus of bone marrow donor banks in Brazil based on an integrative review. Methods: LILACS database and PubMed and SciELO journals were used. The term bone marrow transplantation was the descriptor. Eligibility criteria were: articles with the theme of Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) and studies carried out on the national territory. Results: A total of 88,855 articles were identified, among which 185 met the eligibility criteria. After they were thoroughly read, 14 articles were selected. The studies pointed out fragments that dealt with important historical landmarks for the establishment of bone marrow transplantation as a conventional treatment for oncohematological diseases. Conclusion: The use of BMT has a history of more than thirty years in Brazil. However, none of the articles identified specifically addresses the historical content of bone marrow transplantation.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to discuss the content of manuals, with emphasis on orthopedics, in support of the development of nursing care culture. Methods: cultural-historical method articulated with document analysis technique. The sources were nursing manuals - Portuguese, French, English, and Spanish - from 1875 to 1928. Results: this study pointed to 12 works - 6 authored by physicians, 2 by nurses, 3 institutional, and 1 by a Sister of Charity - that presented, in a transversal way, the professionalization process initiated in Europe. The manuals addressed first aid care and immobilization methods, from the simplest, such as improvised splints, to the application of plaster casts. Conclusions: the nurses’ work, even in a limited capacity, showed that they were able to observe warning signs so that doctors could act, with some exceptions.
