This study aims to examine the phenomenon of undocumented migration in Italy from a sociological and normative perspective. The regularization of migrants facilitated by the May 19, 2020, Decreto Rilancio is the subject of this study. The historical and social background of the introduction of this measure shall be considered when comparing the legislative provisions with earlier regularizations. In contrast to other regularizations, the paper seeks to identify distinctions and similarities, focusing on how the Covid-19 pandemic impacted the preceding regularization. In this context, the research shows the similarities between the two main regulations (Bossi-Fini Law and Decreto Rilancio) promoted in the last 20 years, even if in the intervening period other migratory regularizations with a lower numerical impact have been promoted. Moreover, the study aims to understand the effect of migrants on the public opinion during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. The analysis focuses on the daily interaction between native and migrant groups in the pre- and post-regularization phases. Similarly, the perception of immigration as a problem has diminished because of the presence of the virus. Currently, the public interest is always high, though not at the level seen before the pre-pandemic period.

Platform work represents a new form of non-standard work without recognition by European labour law. In recent years, the issue of improving working conditions in platform work has been at the heart of political and academic debate. On 11th March 2024, the employment and social affairs ministers of the EU Member States endorsed the agreement reached with the European Parliament on the Commission’s proposed directive on platform work. The directive tackles situations of wrong classification of employment status, introducing a rebuttable legal presumption and reducing the burden of proof on persons performing platform work. In addition, the directive introduces the first EU rules to regulate algorithmic management in the workplace. This paper traces the positions advocated by the European institutions in defining the strategy for improving working conditions within digital platforms and offers an extended analysis of the final text of the directive that has just been approved.

The importance of the phenomenon of temporary labour migration is growing both from a quantitative and from a political point of view. Its legal regulation is grounded on concepts, such as “temporariness” and “labour market”, which are either not defined by the law or in potential conflict with their socio-economic reality. We propose two approaches to better identify the meaning of these terms in the context of European Union (EU) law, by focusing on the three categories of labour migration which are explicitly defined as temporary. These are posting of workers, seasonal work, and intra-corporate transfers. We analyse the concept of temporariness through a necessary and sufficient conditions approach, whereas to identify the meaning of “labour market” law we propose an original systematic document analysis using a corpus of more than 1800 mentions of the concept in EU “hard law”. Our article highlights the polysemic nature of these concepts and proposes operationalised criteria for further research into the legal regulation of temporary labour migration in the EU.

One of the most distinguishing features of labour law is the existence of a category of legal acts considered autonomous sources of law. Although not adopted by public authorities, they establish general and abstract norms regulating various labour-related issues and are secured by a complex system of sanctions. The legal effects of autonomous acts must be confronted with the normative model of sources of law. The Constitution of the Republic of Poland has established numerus clausus of sources of law. None of the autonomous sources of labour law are mentioned as a part of the constitutional legal system. The article presents the Polish system of sources of law and clarifies constitutional grounds for creating the normativity of collective agreements and employer’s regulations as autonomous acts.

The directive on “corporate due diligence for sustainability purposes”, approved on 24 May 2024, follows international attempts by some national legal systems to transfer due diligence to the level of hard law. The proposal obliges large companies to structure a risk management system against social and environmental externalities related to their activities along the entire global supply chain, requiring States to adopt monitoring and control mechanisms and a system of sanctions. To safeguard this process, the introduction of an obligation to involve a qualified list of stakeholders, including workers and their representatives, and an unprecedented civil liability of companies and directors are envisaged. Starting from these premises, the paper focuses first of all on the introduction of the civil liability regime for companies linked, among other things, to the failure to prepare such information and participatory protocols. The paper then analyses the critical issues and potential of the directive with particular reference to the prospects of a participatory governance of corporate risk and the role that, in its implementation, workers’ participation and social dialogue can assume. This is also in light of the progressive emergence of new collective rights, including those of self-employed workers and platform workers, provided for by the most recent initiatives of the European Commission.

This paper analyses L. 1/2023, which positions sporting activities among the values protected by the Italian Constitution. To that end, this same law adds a further paragraph to Article 33 of the Constitution which underlines: firstly, the educational value of sport and its links with the formation and development of the person; secondly, the social value of sporting activities, as sporting activities contribute to the aggregation and inclusion of individuals (or of groups of individuals) who face various kinds of disadvantage; and thirdly, the value of promoting the psychophysical well-being of individuals which connects sport to health, where health is intended in its broadest sense and not just as lack of disease. The last paragraph of Article 33 of the Constitution is generic in scope and does not take into account the type of activity carried out or the individuals engaged in it. Hence the deduction that sporting activities may be among the primary fundamental rights of the individual, as common interpretative guidelines had already stated before L. 1/2023. The new constitutional provision is also prescriptive in scope, in the sense that it commits the Legislator and other State powers (including social entities providing services of general interest) to pursue the implicit purposes deriving from the recognition of sport’s value, and may constitute a basis for invalidating legislative provisions that go against it. Finally, L. 1/2023 anchors the new wording of the Constitution to a wide range of sources in the supranational and national legal systems. In this regard, the acts, guidelines and instruments from the UN, the Council of Europe and the EU should be taken into account. While at a national level, the provisions of the recent reform that carried out a comprehensive and structural review of the sporting legal system in Italy are particularly interesting, the new constitutional framework equally appears consistent with the provisions relating to sport found in foreign constitutions.

The research explores the relationship between the spreading of digital technologies and the maritime labour market. The field of investigation focused on the transport sector in the European and Italian contexts. Firstly, the reasons and main features of the maritime employment crisis are discussed, with particular regard to crew shortage, lack of generational turnover and mismatch. Secondly, the current transition from on-board work to shore-based work is highlighted. The aim of the study is twofold. Primarily, the author intends to illustrate the implications of the spreading of new navigation technologies on the maritime labour market and to investigate the possible developments of the sea-to-land transition. Moreover, the intent is to encourage reflection on how to address the current and future issues that the maritime labour market is facing. The analysis and proposals are divided between the current/short-term situation and the future/long-term issues (that will require completely new actions).

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace presents both opportunities and risks. It may improve productivity and working conditions, but if misapplied or opaquely used, may exacerbate existing vulnerabilities. In the European Union, developments in the AI landscape have prompted legislative efforts, most notably reflected in the long-waited EU Artificial Intelligence Act. This paper aims to examine the impact of such Regulation on the use of AI systems in the field of work, providing a first assessment of its legal framework. The paper argues that while the EU AI Act improves previous drafts, ambiguities and loopholes remain. However, it also points out that the Regulation provides only a minimum shared framework, leaving room for more favourable provisions or collective agreements. Against this background, the paper emphasises the key role of social partners in establishing context-specific regulations for AI use in the workplace and concludes by affirming that only multi-stakeholder synergies will be capable of keeping pace with fast-evolving technology such as AI.

This contribution seeks to delineate the current legal and institutional framework concerning workers training in Italy, with a focus on the roles played by social partners and the latest legislative updates. Additionally, special attention will be given to policies addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, including young people and workers with disabilities.

The paper proposes an analysis of the regularisation procedure introduced by the Decreto-Legge 34/2020, so called “Relaunch Decree”, addressing some of its many contradictions. Secondly, the paper shows how the “special protection”, after the reform with Decreto-Legge 130/2020, could have overcome the limits of this instruments, representing a permanent channel of regularisation, and how the Decreto Legge 20/2023, also called “Cutro Decree”, has stopped these positive outcomes.

This paper explores the link between environmental transitions and labour market policies. The essay investigates problems and solutions to mix worker-focused and social transformation-oriented approaches and observes the evolution and consolidation of the European framework. On this basis, the paper focuses on models and concrete programs in Italy and beyond.

The paper aims to share the idea that “Sustainable Development” is not only linked to an environmental dimension, but also to a social one. The reasoning focuses on a specific declination of sustainability within Labour Law, which is identified in the employment inclusion of persons with disabilities, and it develops by taking the Italian legal system as a reference point: after showing its weaknesses and opportunities, the paper sets out a proposal, which is based on the concept of “Offsetting”, embracing it from the environmental framework to the right to work of persons with disabilities.

The contribution presents an analysis of the potential role of industrial relations in the ecological transition, with a specific focus on collective bargaining within the energy-oil and chemical-pharmaceutical sectors. It highlights the importance of mandatory regulations, particularly in establishing and for an increased recognition of entities such as observatories, commissions, bilateral bodies, funds, and professional training organizations. The study aims to elucidate, through an examination of the national collective bargaining in two sectors heavily impacted by transition processes, the methodologies applied by the social partners to promote participatory and dialogic models of industrial relations, therefore supporting, expediting, and facilitating production and labour transitions.

The contribution delves into the digitalization of active labour market policies (ALMPs) and public employment services (PES), with a specific focus on the unemployed profiling procedure, as it represents one of the most sensitive processes to technological advances, first and foremost the use of Artificial Intelligence. By examining three different European contexts (Flanders, the Netherlands, and Italy), we will try to highlight both the positive impacts and potential drawbacks of digitalization in such a complex area as the labour market.

The Adequate Minimum Wage Directive has proven to be one of the most contentious pieces of EU labour legislation, with a variety of opinion on what impact the Directive may have, its significance, and its implications for labour relations regulation across the EU. This contribution focuses on the implications of the Directive for collective bargaining coverage in the EU, and takes a broadly optimistic view of what the impact of the Directive might be by using the example of Ireland as a case study. Ireland is one of the countries with a relatively low collective bargaining coverage rate, where measures will be required to promote collective bargaining. However, more broadly, the Irish journey in recent years seems to mirror that of the EU Institutions. From an emphasis on austerity measures and pressures to de-regulate following the financial crisis, allied with judicial decision-making which seemed to favour economic rights over social rights, to a “paradigm shift” of a (re)emphasis on social Europe, and on collective rights. The paper looks at the impact the Directive (pre-transposition) has already had in terms of social dialogue and collective bargaining, before turning to consider some of the transposition challenges. In the concluding section, the paper reflects on some lessons that might be of wider application across the Member States.

The essay investigates the role played, or that could be played, by trade unions for the inclusion of vulnerable workers in employment, in the wake of a recent propensity for diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) strategies adopted by several companies. In order to do so, after an analysis of DE&I strategies, the research takes into consideration the reaction of trade unions and their potential interest in these approaches. In particular, several tools used by trade unions in different European Member States are compared, such as collective bargaining, awareness-raising measures, individual support, training, collaborations with other actors, and litigations. Among these instruments, the research confirms the primary role played by collective bargaining. Lastly, a reflection is made on the relationship that is established, or could be established, between DE&I models and trade unions: a strong correlation between the two is recognised, which sometimes takes the form of a real cooperation and, in some other cases, of a true dependency.

While the existing research on domestic violence (DV) interventions has provided substantial insights into the challenges associated with addressing DV, the factors that facilitate its intervention in social and health care remain under-researched. This study focuses on DV intervention practices that professionals have deemed successful and employs subject-centered sociocultural theories of professional agency to analyze how professional agency is manifested in these situations. To this end, 10 focus group interviews were conducted with 45 experienced social and health care professionals. The collected data were subjected to thematic content analysis. The findings illustrate how professional agency is manifested in various contexts: through understanding DV as a phenomenon and its contextual factors (epistemic agency), launching a process (processual agency), collaborating with other professionals (relational agency), and reflecting on one’s own actions and emotions (reflective agency).

Los reportes de sostenibilidad son una vía de comunicación de las empresas para evaluar y legitimar sus actuaciones ante sus stakeholders. El propósito de este documento es estudiar la evolución de la elaboración y divulgación de reportes de sostenibilidad en Argentina entre 2004 y 2021, su distribución sectorial y la influencia de acuerdos voluntarios en las prácticas de divulgación. Mediante una metodología exploratoria y descriptiva, se analizan datos de 155 empresas cotizadas en Argentina, se examina la divulgación de reportes de sostenibilidad y se evalúa la adhesión al Pacto Global. Los resultados muestran que la difusión es baja, difiere entre sectores y que la adhesión a acuerdos voluntarios aumenta significativamente la divulgación. Desde un enfoque institucional, se sugiere la coexistencia del isomorfismo normativo y mimético. El estudio subraya la necesidad de acelerar las prácticas de difusión a través del diseño de políticas obligatorias y la sensibilización de empresas, inversores y otros interesados.

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar a percepção do uso do ChatGPT® em processos de ensino e aprendizagem em cursos de engenhariana UEMG – Campus Divinópolis – Minas Gerais (Brasil), por meio de um estudo descritivo e qualitativo com docentes e alunos, utilizando entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os resultados destacaram a facilidade de acesso às informações, economia de tempo, respostas precisas e rápidas, simplificação e agilidade em tarefas, com feedback ao longo do processo de aprendizagem como aspectos positivos. Quanto às limitações, foram apontadas a falta de fonte da informação, impacto negativo na educação em casos de plágio, resolução de cálculos, linguagens e códigos mais detalhados, resultados superficiais e inconsistências em assuntos complexos e informações desatualizadas. Para futuras pesquisas, sugere-se ampliar o número de observações em diferentes cursos, buscando estudos mais estatísticos, e aprofundar a análise nos diversos aspectos da ferramenta para avaliar benefícios de futuras atualizações.

El sector energético es una parte esencial del desarrollo que posibilita inversiones, innovación y nuevas industrias, motores de la creación de empleo, el crecimiento inclusivo y la prosperidad económica. El objetivo general de este trabajo es analizar los riesgos y oportunidades identificados en los reportes integrados del año 2021 de las tres empresas de energía eléctrica mejor rankea-das en el “Ranking de 500 empresas latinoamericanas”. Se utiliza un enfoque cualitativo mediante un estudio de casos múltiple con alcance descriptivo de las tres empresas seleccionadas por medio de la herramienta metodológica de análisis de documentos, registros, materiales y artefactos siendo la fuente de información datos secundarios de corte transversal obtenidos de los reportes integrados. Se toman como guía de análisis los riesgos y oportunidades revelados por las organizaciones en sus reportes, y se consideran los diferentes tipos de impacto (económico, social, ambiental y de gobierno corporativo), de acuerdo con el Marco Conceptual del IIRC de 2013 vigente para el período analizado. Los hallazgos demuestran que las tres empresas estudiadas cumplen con lo establecido en el Marco Conceptual del IIRC en lo que respecta a la divulgación de riesgos y oportunidades. Se observa la implementación de diferentes metodologías para identificar las fuentes específicas de riesgos y oportunidades con un alto grado de coincidencia en los riesgos identificados por las empresas, en su gestión y en el monitoreo periódico. Además, se destaca la conexión que existe entre la sección de “Riesgos y oportunidades” y el resto de las secciones que componen cada uno de los reportes de los casos analizados.

A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo identificar a percepção dos contadores do Cariri Ocidental Paraibano, quanto ao uso da tecnologia da informação nos serviços contábeis. Quanto aos aspectos metodológicos, caracterizou-se como um estudo de casos múltiplos com coleta de dados mediante aplicação de questionário. Os resultados apontaram que ocorreram mudanças com o uso da Tecnologia da informação e suas ferramentas de automação, que causaram uma melhoria na qualidade dos serviços prestados. Foi consenso entre os profissionais que a Tecnologia da Informação ajudou no crescimento tanto do escritório, como em seu próprio crescimento profissional, onde as rotinas automatizadas, a agilidade na geração e repasse das informações, a maior interação entre escritório e cliente foram os benefícios mais citados. Foi possível observar, também, uma melhoria nos meios de divulgação dos serviços prestados fazendo com que se alcance um público maior, sendo o marketing digital um aliado estratégico.

Based on a mixed-methods case study, this article explores the impact of formal affiliations and informal associations in professional organizations, relating these questions of belonging to workplace dynamics and collectives. Using the experience of departmental administrators within a Swedish university as an ideal case to investigate the formal and informal connections at work, this article argues that a multiplicity of belongings within organizations brings strain and opportunities, altering the relations at work. The study contributes to discussions on belonging and social relationships at the workplace level by applying the concept of belonging to different sites in the organization. It suggests that sites of belongings within organizations can serve as a discrete concept, useful for adding insights into the dynamics of work organizations.

Tarkastelemme puheenvuorossamme työelämän merkitystä kestävyysmurroksessa ja pohdimme, ovatko suomalainen työelämän tutkimus sekä toiminta työpaikoilla riittävän hyviä kestävyysmurroksen haasteisiin nähden. Vaikka työllä on keskeinen rooli kestävyysmurroksessa, se on tutkimuksellisesti jäänyt osittain muiden kestävyysteemojen varjoon. Ekologisesti ja sosiaalisesti kestävän työelämän tutkimus on kylläkin kehittymässä suotuisasti, mutta tarvitaan pitkäjänteisempää tutkimusta, joka haastaa nykyisiä rakenteita ja käytäntöjä. Myös suomalaisilla työpaikoilla kehitys on edennyt lupaavasti, sillä monet organisaatiot ja yritykset ovat sitoutuneet kestävän kehityksen tavoitteisiin ja toimivat aktiivisesti kestävyysmurroksen edistämiseksi. Tämä kehitystyö ilmenee esimerkiksi asteittaisena kehittämisenä, raportointina ja valtavirtaistamisena. Ilman merkittävää uudelleenarviointia ja kyseenalaistamista työpaikoilla ei kuitenkaan välttämättä tunnisteta rakenteellisia muu-tostarpeita, jotka ovat välttämättömiä kestävyystavoitteiden saavuttamiseksi. Esitämme lopuksi, että ekologisesti ja sosiaalisesti kestävän työelämän ja sen tutkimuksen edistämisessä tarvitaan monitieteistä yhteistyötä, uudenlaisia käsitteitä, tiedontuotannon tapoja ja teoreettista mallintamista. Lisäksi tarvitaan kykyä ja valmiuksia kuvitella työn muotoja ja rakenteita, jotka eivät ole kiinni nykyhetken kestämättömissä tuotannon, kulutuksen ja palkkatyön rakenteissa.

Intialaiset organisaatiot ovat suomalaisiin organisaatioihin verrattuna hierarkkisesti hyvin jäykkiä. Myös käsitykset johtajan auktoriteetista ja työntekijän oma-aloitteisuudesta ovat merkittävästi erilaisia Intiassa kuin Suomessa. Intiassa sijaitsevissa kansainvälisissä yrityksissä tasapainoillaan usein erilaisten työkulttuurien välillä. Näissä työyhteisöissä työskentelee johtotehtävissä myös monia suomalaisia, jotka kohtaavat suomalaiseen työelämään verrattuna monin tavoin erilaisia käytäntöjä ja arvoja. Käsittelen artikkelissani 12 avoimen haastattelun pohjalta Intiassa johtotehtävissä olevien suomalaisten kokemuksia intialaisesta työkulttuurista. Aineistolähtöisen tarkastelun keskiöön nousee hierarkia, johon liittyen käsittelen myös autoritaarista johtamista ja mikromanagerointia. Haastattelujen mukaan suomalaiset johtajat sopeutuvat paikalliseen työkulttuuriin melko hyvin, osin muuttamalla työyhteisön hierarkiaa latteammaksi mutta myös omaksumalla joitakin paikallisen työkulttuurin käytäntöjä.

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan kokemusasiantuntijoiden osaamista sosiaalialan ammattilaisten näkökulmasta. Tutkimuskysymykset olivat: Millaista osaamista rikos- ja päihdetaustaisilla kokemusasiantuntijoilla on sosiaalialan ammattilaisten näkökulmasta? Millaista osaamista rikos- ja päihdetaustaiset kokemusasiatuntijat tuovat työskentelyyn sosiaalialan ammattilaisten kanssa? Aineistona käytettiin kokemusasiantuntijoita työllistävien organisaatioiden työntekijöiden ryhmähaastatteluita. Aineistot litteroitiin, ja sisällönanalyysi eteni aineistolähtöisesti. Osaamista tarkastellaan Delamare Le Deistin ja Wintertonin (2005) kompetenssimallin pohjalta sekä ammattieettisen toiminnan osatekijöiden (Rest ym. 1999) mukaisesti. Tulosten mukaan kokemusasiantuntijoilla on monipuolista osaamista. Kokemusasiantuntijoiden ainutlaatuinen perspektiivi ja kyky ymmärtää rikos- ja päihdetaustaisia asiakkaita ja heidän tarpeitaan ei ainoastaan täydennä ammattilaisten osaamista vaan myös rikastuttaa sitä.

Sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon palveluintegraatio muuttaa sote-ammattilaisten työn tekemisen tapoja aiempaa monialaisemmaksi lisäten ammattiryhmiä yhdistävän yhteisen eli geneerisen osaamisen tarvetta. Uudenlaiset osaamisvaatimukset heijastuvat alan koulutusten sisältöihin. Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin monitieteisesti yliopiston opetushenkilöstön näkemyksiä sote-ammattiryhmiä yhdistävästä geneerisestä osaamisesta. Fokusryhmähaastatteluihin osallistui opetushenkilöstöä eri sosiaali- ja terveydenhuoltoalan yliopistotasoisista koulutusohjelmista. Aineisto analysoitiin teoriaohjaavalla sisällönanalyysillä. Tulosten mukaan sote-alan geneerisen osaamisen perustan muodostaa tieteellinen tieto ja näyttöön perustuva toiminta, jonka päälle rakentuvat systeeminen osaaminen ja rohkean ammattilaisen osaaminen. Geneerisen osaamisen työelämätarpeeseen pyritään koulutuksessa vastaamaan edistämällä työelämärajapinnassa tapahtuvaa oppimista ja tarkastelemalla sosiaali- ja terveydenhuoltoa laaja-alaisesti. Koulutuksen ja työelämän välistä keskustelua tarvitaan lisää, jotta valmistuvien sote-ammattilaisten osaaminen vastaa tulevaisuuden työelämätarpeita ja kannustaa uudenlaisiin työn tekemisen tapoihin.

Erilaiset työllistämistoimenpiteet ovat keskeinen työvoimapoliittinen keino, jolla pyritään edistämään työttömien työllistymistä. Nuoret ovat olleet yksi keskeisimmistä näiden toimenpiteiden kohderyhmistä. Siitä huolimatta tällä hetkellä on saatavilla vain niukasti tutkimustietoa siitä, millaisia myönteisiä ja kielteisiä seurauksia työllistämistoimenpiteisiin osallistumisella on erityisessä syrjäytymisvaarassa oleville nuorille. Tässä artikkelissa tätä vaikeasti lähestyttävää ongelmaa tutkitaan pitkäaikaistyöttömien nuorten haastatteluaineiston pohjalta. Tutkimuksen tavoite on selvittää, millaisia toivottuja ja ei-toivottuja seurauksia työllistämistoimenpiteisiin osallistumisella on ollut pitkäaikaistyöttömien nuorten itsensä arvioimana. Aineisto sisältää 28 pitkäaikaistyöttömän nuoren elämänkulkuhaastattelua, joita on analysoitu temaattisen narratiivisen analyysin avulla. Tulosten tulkinnan teoreettisena viitekehyksenä käytetään Anthony Giddensin rakenteistumisteoriaa. Analyysissä nuorten kokemukset tiivistetään kolmeen tarinatyyppiin, jotka ovat aktivoinnin liukuportaat, karuselli ja kummitusjuna. Nämä tarinatyypit kuvaavat erilaisia työllistämistoimenpiteiden seurauksia pitkäaikaistyöttömien nuorten kokemusten näkökulmasta. Tutkimus osoittaa, että työllistämistoimenpiteet voivat auttaa nuoria murtamaan työttömyyttä ylläpitävän noidankehän, mutta työllistämistoimenpiteisiin osallistumiseen sisältyy myös huomattavia riskejä.

O estudo investiga o papel dos Grupos Especiais de Fiscalização Móvel na mitigação do trabalho escravo contemporâneo. Embora a escravidão brasileira tenha sido abolida no custoso maio de 1888, a sua prática se alastrou ao longo dos anos, indo ao encontro dos tempos hodiernos. Entre os anos 1995 e 2023, mais de 60 mil trabalhadores foram encontrados em condições análogas à de escravo no território nacional. Os resgates dessas pessoas foram possíveis por meio dos Grupos Especiais de Fiscalização Móvel, configurando uma das primeiras políticas públicas de combate e erradicação ao trabalho escravo contemporâneo. Assim, o estudo busca responder como os Grupos Especiais de Fiscalização Móvel atuam e contribuem para a erradicação do trabalho escravo contemporâneo brasileiro? Para responder ao problema de pesquisa, utilizou-se do estudo bibliográfico, método de abordagem indutivo, bem como o método de procedimento histórico e monográfico. A pesquisa possui como objetivo central analisar como esses Grupos atuam, avaliando sua eficácia e identificando os seus principais desafios na execução de suas atividades, justificando-se pela necessidade de um olhar atento acerca do trabalho escravo, bem como sobre as políticas públicas de combate e erradicação dessa prática desumana.

Immigrant women are widely portrayed as facing a serious labor market disadvantage, yet gender differences in immigrants’ occupational mobility have been little explored. The article studied gender gaps in immigrants’ occupational entrapment, defined as entering and remaining in low-skilled/low-prestige work rather than moving on to more skilled/prestigious work. The analyses were based on longitudinal register data and followed five immigrant cohorts arriving in Sweden in the early 2000s over a 12-year period. The results show that immigrant women were more likely than men to start out in a low-skilled/low-prestige job and less likely to experience occupational mobility. However, tertiary education strongly mitigated these gender gaps. At the same time, the differences between high- and low-educated individuals widened more among women than among men. Family-related factors and country-specific human capital did not explain these patterns, but the findings indicate that occupational gender segregation can be crucial to immigrants’ mobility prospects.

This article examines how inclusive behavior affects communication on an interpersonal level while presenting a perspective on how these effects are created and obtained. We present our findings through a multiple case study design of the positive communication benefits attributed to inclusive behaviors while generating a better understanding of how and when these benefits occur. This contribution could help organizations identify the value of practicing inclusion and guide them toward acquiring the benefits of inclusive behavior. The article also suggests that informal learning plays a substantial role in reaping interpersonal benefits due to the practice of inclusive behavior in work-related settings.

Increasing numbers of older workers have to postpone retirement to be eligible for pension income. Therefore, knowledge of how to ensure their mental wellbeing is becoming increasingly salient, especially in Nordic countries, where mental health problems are the most important reason for workers leaving the labor market prematurely. Yet, no systematic overview of what influences older workers’ mental wellbeing currently exists. This scoping review aims to build such knowledge and identify gaps in the literature. Employing a multi-faceted search strategy, we identified and reviewed 23 articles. The mental wellbeing of older workers is influenced by (a) working onditions, (b) workers’ socio-economic and psychological resources, and (c) uncertainties in the statutory framework. Research gaps include a lack of knowledge on (i) how the interaction between factors at the individual, workplace, and welfare state levels impacts older workers’ mental wellbeing, and (ii) the determinants of older workers’ mental wellbeing in Nordic countries.

Focusing on jobs for youth, this study analyzes the development of job postings in Norway during the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Jobs for youth are defined by the top 20 three-digit occupations for young workers, and postings for these occupations took a heavier hit than other jobs during the pandemic. We also identify the top 20 occupations for entrants immediately after completing their highest education to reveal that, during the pandemic, entry jobs for young people with lower education declined the most. Using 2018 and 2019 as reference years, we show that the decline started before ‘lockdown’ policies were in place but worsened during the lockdown. As the economy reopened, job posting rates improved but did not reach the 2018 and 2019 levels.

Tratados de forma periférica pela bibliografia que se dedicou à análise do transporte terrestre em Lisboa, o presente artigo se dedica justamente aos trabalhadores do setor. O artigo abarca desde a década de 1870, que é marcada por profundas mudanças na circulação de veículos com a introdução da Companhia Carris de Ferro de Lisboa, até o ano de 1910, em que ocorreu a instauração do regime republicano em Portugal e foi um momento de alta na mobilização dos trabalhadores do setor. Primeiramente, analisa-se como neste recorte, em que o próprio espaço urbano passava por profundas transformações, ocorreu o acirramento do controle municipal e policial sobre os cocheiros e carroceiros. Posteriormente, verifica-se especificamente as empresas de transporte coletivo e as tentativas de controle dentro das mesmas, por meio dos regulamentos. Em todo o texto, as greves aparecem como momentos privilegiados para a análise da experiência dos trabalhadores na cidade, desvelando condições de trabalho, conflitos de classe e as formas de organização e mobilização. Assim, as paralisações propiciam a investigação das possíveis leituras que os trabalhadores tinham sobre as medidas de controle sobre seu trabalho e corpos, e as maneiras encontradas para lutar.

O artigo analisa uma tentativa abortada de resistência armada ao golpe de 1964, envolvendo um bloco político composto por associações de camponeses e sindicatos, especialmente petroleiros, na Baixada Fluminense. Através de análises documentais, jornalísticas e entrevistas, é destacada a organização desse bloco político naquela conjuntura e as circunstâncias da tentativa de resistência. O artigo também aborda representações sociais da memória dessa tentativa e de uma possibilidade de formação de guerrilha em uma localidade rural da Baixada Fluminense, alvo de intensa repressão após o golpe. Através dessa análise, o artigo problematiza a suposição de amplo apoio popular ao golpe e conclui que essa tentativa de resistência armada dependia da reação do Presidente João Goulart ao movimento golpista.

Resenha: BOSMA, Ulbe. The World of Sugar. How the Sweet Stuff Transformed Our Politics, Health, and Environment over 2,000 Years. Cambridge, Mass.: Harvard UP, 2023.

The emergence of online labor platforms (OLPs) has raised concerns about the treatment of platform workers and the legality of OLPs’ contractual relations and control. This study examines how managers (CEOs/founders) justify OLPs’ contractual relations and market control within the frames of critical platform work discussions and the Finnish labor market model. By using justification theory and market control classification as analytical tools, this qualitative study reveals that managers justify OLPs’ control and contractual relations by referring to critical discussions and features of Finnish labor market model. In justifications, managers either adopt the normative features of the model or criticize the societal neglect of self-employed workers. The model’s emphasis on full-time employment and legal questions around the platform economy seems to challenge the legitimacy of all OLP companies on some level. Despite OLPs’ operational differences, all managers justify OLPs with the idea of promoting self-employment within the Finnish labor market.

Ao longo do século XIX, é possível observar, no norte de Moçambique (atual província de Nampula), o surgimento de novas configurações sociais e políticas compostas originalmente por africanos escravizados fugidos e libertos, denominadas nas fontes portuguesas de “aringas” e “quilombos”. O objetivo deste artigo é explorar como as experiências de trabalhadores e as múltiplas formas de organização do trabalho influenciaram a formação dessas comunidades. Num primeiro momento, apresentei duas povoações – Missanga e Ampapa – e a sua relação com as formas de trabalho marcadas pelo sistema escravista europeu e com as dinâmicas locais africanas, como os processos de migração e o comércio de longa distância. Num segundo momento, analisei a formação de uma terceira comunidade – “aringa de Farelay” – e a sua ligação com as novas formas de relações de trabalho advindas da implementação do colonialismo europeu. Por fim, discuti o uso dos termos “aringas” e “quilombos” para identificar essas comunidades e possíveis aproximações entre os sentidos dados a essas experiências de trabalhadores no norte de Moçambique e em outros espaços geográficos.

Esta investigación descriptiva-correlacional analiza el nivel de divulgación de información complementaria y adicional de las cooperativas de trabajo de Santa Fe (Argentina) en los estados financieros emitidos entre diciembre de 2020 y marzo de 2022, relacionándolo con los factores: tamaño, solvencia patrimonial, rendimiento económico y dependencia estatal. Presenta dos índices de revelación —obligatoria y voluntaria— sobre aspectos socioeconómicos que denotan presencia o ausencia de información. Describe la falta de información voluntaria y aplica un modelo de regresión sobre la información obligatoria, estableciendo como determinantes la dependencia estatal y el tamaño de acuerdo con las ventas. Concluye que, siendo los estados financieros una herramienta indispensable, el campo de indagación sigue abierto para incorporar técnicas cualitativas que permitan conocer otros factores según la opinión de preparadores, auditores y partes interesadas. Se espera que los resultados sirvan a la regulación contable, entendiendo que deberían evidenciarse los principios y valores de la economía social.
