3. Discovery and analysis of Gamma Doradus type pulsations in the Cloud and the effect of metallicity on pulsation

Abstract

We present multi-site photometric observations of the F0 IV star HR 2740=QW Pup which reveal it to be a Gamma Dor type variable pulsating with four frequencies: 1.0434, 0.9951, 1.1088, 0.9019 c\d. These data were obtained at the European Southern Observatory and South African Astronomical Observatory over a time baseline spanning from 1997 January 14 to 1997 February 11. The 1.0434 c\d term dominates in amplitude (10 mmag) over the other three (each less than 5 mmag); the light curve comprising these four frequencies seems to be very stable and no residual power is left in the power spectrum. During the analysis particular attention was paid to methodological aspects, which cannot be neglected considering the proximity of the frequencies to 1 c\d. Physical parameters were also derived for all the well-known Gamma Dor stars, confirming that this class is very homogenous. In the framework of the campaign, two Ap stars (OU Pup=HR 2746 and PR Pup=HR 2761) were also observed. The photometric differences between these rotating variables and HR 2740 are emphasized, corroborating the pulsational nature of the Gamma Dor stars. It is further demonstrated that the rotational splitting cannot be a suitable explanation of the observed frequency content of HR 2740., Comment: 10 pages, Latex file with 5 .ps figures. submitted for publication to MNRAS

Abstract

The reaction of the dirhenium complex Re2(mu-H)(mu-PCy2)(CO)8 with an equimolar amount of LiPh and two equiv of XAuPPh3 (X=Cl,Br,I) produced the heteronuclear cluster complexes Re2(AuPPh3)2(mu-PCy2)-(CO)7X with elimination of PhCHO and LiX. The mechanistic pathway of the cluster formation was studied. Salts of the anionic intermediate complexes (Re2(mu-H)(mu-PCy2)(C(Ph)O)(CO)7)- and (Re2(mu-AuPPh3)(mu-PCy2)(CO)7X)- were isolated.

Abstract

Monaurated isomers are one of the many products from the reaction of the dimanganese complex Mn2(mu-H)(mu-PCyH)(CO)8 with the non nucleophilic base DBU and ClAuPR3 in THF solution. DBU is 1,8-diazabicyclo(5.4.0)undec-7-en. R is either Cy, Ph, p-C6H4OMe, or p-C6H4F. Fractional crystallization and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy techniques were used to isolate and identify the isomers in the solution. respectively. A mechanistic pathway explaining the synthesis of the isomers is discussed.

Abstract

Re2M ring is a common core for synthetic Re2(mu-PR2)(CO)8(mu-M(CO)2-PPh3) (M = Rh, Ir and R = Ph, Cy) and Re2Rh(mu-CO)2(mu-PR2)(CO)6(PPh3)2 heterobimetallic cluster complexes. Length of the pi(Re-Rh) bond in the Re2M ring of the second type complex is 2.681 angstroms. X-ray analysis and various spectroscopic techniques aid the structural characterization of these complexes.
