Aonla or Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.), a member of family the Euphorbiaceae, is one of the indigenous minor fruits of India. It thrives well throughout tropical as well as sub-tropical regions of India. The fruit is highly nutritive and the richest source of ascorbic acid after Barbados cherry. Fruits are made into preserves, jam, pickles, candy, sauce, dried chips, powder, etc. In order to investigate the effect of gibberellic acid and boron on aonla fruits ‘Banarasi’, the present experiment was carried out in the Department of Horticulture, C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur-208002 (U.P.), India, during the years 2004-2005. There were in all 15 treatment combinations comprising borax at three levels (0, 0.2 and 0.4%) and GA3 at five levels (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 ppm), applied as foliar spray on 1 August, replicated thrice in randomized block design taking a single plant as a unit treatment. From this experiment, it was concluded that among borax concentrations 0.4% proved most effective in increasing the length (4.64 cm), diameter (4.96 cm), weight (47.46 g), volume (43.62 cc), TSS (10.75°Brix), total sugar (8.75%), ascorbic acid (582.8 mg per 100 g of pulp) and reduced titratable acidity (2.14%); whereas among GA3 concentrations, application at 150 ppm increased the length (4.74 cm), diameter (5.11 cm), weight (48.26 g), volume (44.24 cc), TSS (11.21oBrix), total sugar (9.07 %), ascorbic acid (596.66 mg per 100 g of pulp) and reduced titratable acidity (2.04%). The combined application of B at 0.4% and GA3 at 150 ppm recorded maximum length (4.86 cm), diameter (5.14 cm), weight (48.60 g), volume (44.45 cc), TSS (11.50oBrix), total sugar (9.32%), ascorbic acid (605 mg per 100 g of pulp) and minimum titratable acidity (2.01%).

Background Aberrant gallbladder beneath the left liver is a rare congenital anomaly that is found in 0.1–0.7 per cent of the population and causes confusion on imaging and at operation.Two such cases are presented. Case outlines A man of 83 yr was explored for obstructive jaundice due to a hilar tumour, but the gallbladder was ‘missing’. Exploration of a cystic mass to the left of the falciform ligament revealed a gallbladder attached to segment III of the liver. Laparotomy for gallstones in a woman of 70 yr failed to reveal the gallbladder until further dissection was carried out to the left of the falciform ligament. In each of these cases the cystic duct described a hairpin bend before joining the common hepatic duct on its right-hand side. Conclusion A left-sided gallbladder can be truly ectopic or may just appear so because the falciform ligament is aberrantly placed to the right. In either case preoperative imaging can be misleading, and a careful search is needed at operation. The incidence of disease seems no commoner than in orthotopic gallbladders.

In the present paper we have studied the Finslerian hypersurfaces and Randers conformal change of a Finsler metric. The relations between the Finslerian hypersurface and the other which is Finslerian hypersurface given by Randers conformal change have been obtained. We have also proved that Randers conformal change makes three types of hypersurfaces invariant under certain condition. These three types of hypersurfaces are hyperplanes of first, second and third kind. AMS Subject Classification: 53B40, 53C60

The object of the present paper is to derive a number of transformations involving certain families of basic (or q-) hypergeometric functions of two variables. These results would provide basic (or q-) extensions of numerous (known or new) transformations associated with the ordinary Kampé de Fériet functions with different sets of arguments. Some further consequences of our main transformation formulas are also considered.

In-situ coagulation of keloid with Nd:YAG laser irradiation was carried out in a cohort study of 17 patients, each with one keloid scar situated on either the sternum (six), abdomen (seven), shoulder (two), hip (one), or ear lobe (one). The duration of scarring was three to 17 years and size varied from 3–8cm long. One to tow doses of laster irratiation was required for complete coagulation. At three months, 10 (58.8%) keloids had completely healed; but in seven (41.1%) 25-50% of residual keloid persisted. Intralesional triamcinolone infection, once in four patients and twice in three patients, produced complete resolution in all seven patients. At 18 months to five years follow-up, 14 patients remain keloid-free but in three keloid recurred and was re-treated with laser coagulation with compelte resolution. The treatment was carried out as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia. There were no complications. The results of this initial study suggest that Nd:YAG laser irradiation coadulation is effective treatment for keloid scarring.

Seventy-three cases of bull horn injury from a predominantly rural population around Allahabad were admitted to our unit between 1966 and 1975. Injury to the deep viscera is uncommon and the possible explanations of this pattern of injury are discussed. The abdomen was the commonest site of injury with prolapse of loops of small intestine in 60 per cent of cases. Management differs from other penetrating abdominal wounds and simple cleansing and careful examination of the bowel is sufficient in those injuries with prolapse of the intestine.
