A new isotope 203Ac was produced in the reaction 40Ca + 169Tm at beam energy of 226 MeV. One correlated α-decay chain was attributed to 203Ac. The α-particle energy and half-life were determined to be 8217(16) keV and 56−26+269 μs, respectively. The reduced α-decay width (δ2) of 203Ac was deduced to be 1096−906+921 keV, which indicates a favored α decay. The systematics of δ2 and single-particle energy levels indicate that the new state probably arises from the intruder s1/2 configuration, which shows an onset of deformation in Ac isotopes. The proton separation energy Sp of 203Ac was extracted as −1214(22) keV and the systematics of Sp for odd-A isotopes beyond proton drip line were discussed.

A new proton-unbound isotope 204Ac was produced in the fusion-evaporation reaction Tm(40169Ca,5n)204Ac and identified via the recoil-α correlation at the gas-filled recoiled separators SHANS2 and SHANS. The excitation function for producing 204Ac was measured and the optimal beam energy was evaluated to be 212 MeV. Nineteen ER - α1 - α2 - α3 decay chains were observed for this isotope. Based on these chains, the α-particle energy and half-life of 204Ac were determined to be 7948(15) keV and 7.4−1.4+2.2 ms, respectively. Both are consistent with the theoretical prediction. The reduced α-decay width was deduced to be 49−15+10 keV, which indicates a favored α decay for 204Ac. In addition, more precise decay properties of Eα = 7883(15) keV and T1/2 = 7.7−1.6+2.7 ms were obtained for 205Ac.

The semi-magic nucleus 219Np was produced in the fusion reaction 187Re(36Ar, 4n)219Np at the gas-filled recoil separator SHANS (Spectrometer for Heavy Atoms and Nuclear Structure). A fast electronics system based on waveform digitizers was used in the data acquisition and the sampled pulses were processed by digital algorithms. The reaction products were identified using spatial and time correlations between the implants and subsequent α decays. According to the observed α-decay chain, an energy of Eα=9039(40) keV and a half-life of T1/2=0.15−0.07+0.72 ms were determined for 219Np. The deduced proton binding energy of 219Np fits well into the systematics, which gives another evidence of that there is no sub-shell closure at Z=92. The influence of the N=126 shell closure on the stability of Np isotopes is discussed within the framework of α-decay reduced widths. The N=130 short-lived isotope 223Np was produced as evaporation residue (ER) in the fusion reaction 40Ar + 187Re at the gas-filled recoil separator Spectrometer for Heavy Atom and Nuclear Structure (SHANS). It was identified through temporal and spatial correlations with α decays of 215Ac and/or 211Fr, the third and fourth members of the α-decay chain starting from 223Np. The pileup signals of ER(223Np)–α(223Np)–α(219Pa) were resolved by using the digital pulse processing technique. An α decay with half-life of T1/2=2.15(52100) μs and energy of Eα=9477(44)keV was attributed to 223Np. Spin and parity of 9/2− were tentatively proposed for the ground state of 223Np by combining the reduced α-decay width and large-scale shell-model calculations. This assignment together with the proton separation energy disprove the existence of a Z=92 subshell closure. Fine structure in the α decay of 223U was observed in the fusion-evaporation reaction 187Re(40Ar, p3n) by using fast digital pulse processing technique. Two α-decay branches of 223U feeding the ground state and 244 keV excited state of 219Th were identified by establishing the decay chain 223U →α1 219Th →α2 215Ra →α3 211Rn. The α-particle energy for the ground-state to ground-state transition of 223U was determined to be 8993(17) keV, 213 keV higher than the previous value, the half-life was updated to be 62−10+14 μs. Evolution of nuclear structure for N = 131 even-Z isotones from Po to U was discussed in the frameworks of nuclear mass and reduced α-decay width, a weakening octupole deformation in the ground state of 223U relative to its lighter isotones 219Ra and 221Th was suggested. The decay of 218Pa was investigated by means of α and γ spectroscopy. The nucleus was produced in the fusion reaction 40Ar+182W and separated in flight by the gas-filled recoil separator SHANS (Spectrometer for Heavy Atoms and Nuclear Structure). The known α decays of 218Pa were measured with improved precision and newly assigned to be originating from the ground state, which clarified the ambiguities in their previous assignments. In addition, a new isomeric state in 218Pa decaying with α-particle energies of 9691(15) keV, 9595(21) keV and a half-life of 135−32+62 μs was identified. The spins and parities of the involved states were tentatively assigned on the basis of the systematic α-decay properties of the odd-proton N=127 isotones and shell model calculations. Raman spectroscopy is used to investigate the strains in the self-assembled GeSi/Si(001) islands after initial Si capping. The analysis has implied that the strain energy in the substrate in association with an island formation as well as evolution is used for explaining the resulting island shape changes after Si capping.

A Raman study of nanocrystalline GaN with the wurtzite structure synthesized by arc plasma method is reported. A broadband centered at 710 cm(super -1) is attributed to surface modes of the nanocrystals, in agreement with the calculated result based on Frohlich theory.

Objective: To investigate serum levels of soluble CD163 (sCD163) in patients with polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM), and to correlate these to clinical manifestations and laboratory data., Methods: Serum levels of sCD163 were detected in 24 patients with PM, 84 patients with DM, and 46 healthy controls by using the ELISA method. Immunohistochemistry staining of macrophage infiltration in muscle tissue using anti-CD163 monoclonal antibody was conducted on muscle biopsy specimens from 13 patients with PM and 17 with DM., Results: Serum levels of sCD163 were significantly increased in patients compared with healthy controls (p < 0.001). Patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) had statistically higher sCD163 levels than patients without ILD (p < 0.001). High serum sCD163 levels were associated with increased incidence of antinuclear antibody (p < 0.05), higher serum levels of immunoglobulin G (p < 0.01) and immunoglobulin A (p < 0.05), and increased erythrocyte sedimentation rates (p < 0.01). Serum sCD163 levels were inversely correlated with CD3+ T cell counts in peripheral blood of patients (r = -0.306, p < 0.01). Cross-sectional assessment and longitudinal study revealed a significant correlation between serum sCD163 levels and disease activity. Patients with high serum sCD163 levels showed a higher incidence of CD163+ macrophage infiltration in muscle tissue than patients with normal sCD163 levels (chi-square value = 10.804, p < 0.01)., Conclusion: Serum levels of sCD163 were significantly elevated and correlated with disease severity in patients with PM/DM, suggesting serum sCD163 as a promising biomarker in the disease evaluation of PM/DM. Our finding of elevated serum sCD163 levels associated with muscle macrophage infiltration highlights the role activated macrophage plays in the pathogenesis of PM/DM.
