Abstract: Abstract The full data set of the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment is used to probe the effect of the charged current non-standard interactions (CC-NSI) on neutrino oscillation experiments. Two different approaches are applied and constraints on the corresponding CC-NSI parameters are obtained with the neutrino flux taken from the Huber-Mueller model with a 5% uncertainty. For the quantum mechanics-based approach (QM-NSI), the constraints on the CC-NSI parameters ϵ eα and ϵ eα s $$ {\epsilon}_{e\alpha}^s $$ are extracted with and without the assumption that the effects of the new physics are the same in the production and detection processes, respectively. The approach based on the weak effective field theory (WEFT-NSI) deals with four types of CC-NSI represented by the parameters [ε X ] eα . For both approaches, the results for the CC-NSI parameters are shown for cases with various fixed values of the CC-NSI and the Dirac CP-violating phases, and when they are allowed to vary freely. We find that constraints on the QM-NSI parameters ϵ eα and ϵ eα s $$ {\epsilon}_{e\alpha}^s $$ from the Daya Bay experiment alone can reach the order O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (0.01) for the former and O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (0.1) for the latter, while for WEFT-NSI parameters [ε X ] eα , we obtain O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (0.1) for both cases.

2. Interstellar Nitrogen Isotope Ratios: Measurements on Tracers of C14N and C15N

Abstract: The nitrogen isotope ratio ^14 N/ ^15 N is a powerful tool to trace Galactic stellar nucleosynthesis and constrain Galactic chemical evolution. Previous observations have found lower ^14 N/ ^15 N ratios in the Galactic center and higher values in the Galactic disk. This is consistent with the inside-out formation scenario of our Milky Way. However, previous studies mostly utilized double isotope ratios also including ^12 C/ ^13 C, which introduces additional uncertainties. Here we present observations of C ^14 N and its rare isotopologue, C ^15 N, toward a sample of star-forming regions measured by the IRAM 30 m and/or the ARO 12 m telescope at λ ∼ 3 mm wavelength. For those 35 sources detected in both isotopologues, physical parameters are determined. Furthermore, we have obtained nitrogen isotope ratios using the strongest hyperfine components of CN and C ^15 N. For those sources showing small deviations from local thermodynamical equilibrium and/or self-absorption, the weakest hyperfine component, likely free of the latter effect, was used to obtain reliable ^14 N/ ^15 N values. Our measured ^14 N/ ^15 N isotope ratios from C ^14 N and C ^15 N measurements are compatible with those from our earlier measurements of NH _3 and ^15 NH _3 (Paper I), i.e., increasing ratios to a Galactocentric distance of ∼9 kpc. The unweighted second-order polynomial fit yields $\tfrac{{{\rm{C}}}^{14}{\rm{N}}}{{{\rm{C}}}^{15}{\rm{N}}}\,=\,(-4.85\pm 1.89)\,{\mathrm{kpc}}^{-2}\times {R}_{\mathrm{GC}}^{2}+(82.11\pm 31.93)\,{\mathrm{kpc}}^{-1}\times {R}_{\mathrm{GC}}\,-(28.12\pm 126.62)$ . Toward the outer galaxy, the isotope ratio tends to decrease, supporting an earlier finding by H ^13 CN/HC ^15 N. Galactic chemical evolution models are consistent with our measurements of the ^14 N/ ^15 N isotope ratio, i.e., a rising trend from the Galactic center region to approximately 9 kpc, followed by a decreasing trend with increasing R _GC toward the outer Galaxy.

3. A Possible Chemical Clock in High-mass Star-forming Regions: N(HC3N)/N(N2H+)?

Abstract: We conducted observations of multiple HC _3 N ( J = 10−9, 12−11, and 16−15) lines and the N _2 H ^+ ( J = 1−0) line toward a large sample of 61 ultracompact (UC) H ii regions, through the Institut de Radioastronomie Millmétrique 30 m and the Arizona Radio Observatory 12 m telescopes. The N _2 H ^+ J = 1−0 line is detected in 60 sources and HC _3 N is detected in 59 sources, including 40 sources with three lines, 9 sources with two lines, and 10 sources with one line. Using the rotational diagram, the rotational temperature and column density of HC _3 N were estimated toward sources with at least two HC _3 N lines. For 10 sources with only one HC _3 N line, their parameters were estimated, taking one average value of T _rot . For N _2 H ^+ , we estimated the optical depth of the N _2 H ^+ J = 1−0 line, based on the line intensity ratio of its hyperfine structure lines. Then the excitation temperature and column density were calculated. When combining our results in UC H ii regions and previous observation results on high-mass starless cores, the N (HC _3 N)/ N (N _2 H ^+ ) ratio clearly increases from the region stage. This means that the abundance ratio changes with the evolution of high-mass star-forming regions (HMSFRs). Moreover, positive correlations between the ratio and other evolutionary indicators (dust temperature, bolometric luminosity, and luminosity-to-mass ratio) are found. Thus we propose the ratio of N (HC _3 N)/ N (N _2 H ^+ ) as a reliable chemical clock of HMSFRs.

4. A Multitransition Methanol Survey toward a Large Sample of High-mass Star-forming Regions

Abstract: We carried out a spectral line survey of CH _3 OH toward a large sample of 175 high-mass star-forming regions in the 3 mm, 2 mm, and 1.3 mm bands with the Institut de Radioastronomie Millimétrique (IRAM) 30 m telescope. Out of our 175 targets, 148 sources were detected with one or more CH _3 OH transition lines. Nineteen CH _3 OH transition lines, including 13 thermal lines and 6 maser lines, were detected. The 8 _0 → 7 _1 A ^+ (∼95.169 GHz) CH _3 OH maser line, one of the strongest class I CH _3 OH maser lines, was detected in 52 sources. Forty-two of them are previously reported masers and the other 10 are new detections. Through analyzing the rotational diagram of the detected CH _3 OH emission lines (nonmasing lines), we obtained the rotational temperature and the column density for 111 sources. Our results show that E -type CH _3 OH tends to have lower column density than A -type CH _3 OH. The column density ratio of E / A was derived in 55 sources with the majority having a ratio less than 1.0 (about 70%), with a peak ratio of ∼0.6. This is consistent with theoretical predictions, i.e., overabundance of A -type CH _3 OH at low temperature leading to a low E / A ratio. Furthermore, we found that CH _3 OH abundance decreases beyond T _dust ∼ 30 K, which is supported by modeling results. All these support the fact that CH _3 OH is easily formed at low-temperature environments, via successive hydrogenation of CO on cold dust surfaces.

5. Direct measurements of carbon and sulfur isotope ratios in the Milky Way

Abstract: With the IRAM 30 meter telescope, we performed observations of the $J$ = 2-1 transitions of CS, C$^{33}$S, C$^{34}$S, C$^{36}$S, $^{13}$CS, $^{13}$C$^{33}$S, and $^{13}$C$^{34}$S as well as the $J$ = 3-2 transitions of C$^{33}$S, C$^{34}$S, C$^{36}$S, and $^{13}$CS toward a large sample of 110 HMSFRs. We measured the $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C, $^{32}$S/$^{34}$S, $^{32}$S/$^{33}$S, $^{32}$S/$^{36}$S, $^{34}$S/$^{33}$S, $^{34}$S/$^{36}$S, and $^{33}$S/$^{36}$S abundance ratios with rare isotopologs of CS, thus avoiding significant saturation effects. With accurate distances obtained from parallax data, we confirm previously identified $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C and $^{32}$S/$^{34}$S gradients as a function of galactocentric distance (RGC). In the CMZ, $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C ratios are higher than suggested by a linear fit to the disk values as a function of RGC. While $^{32}$S/$^{34}$S ratios near the Galactic center and in the inner disk are similar, this is not the case for $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C, when comparing central values with those near RGC of 5 kpc. As was already known, there is no $^{34}$S/$^{33}$S gradient but the average ratio of 4.35~$\pm$~0.44 derived from the $J$ = 2-1 transition lines of C$^{34}$S and C$^{33}$S is well below previously reported values. A comparison between solar and local interstellar $^{32}$S/$^{34}$S and $^{34}$S/$^{33}$S ratios suggests that the Solar System may have been formed from gas with a particularly high $^{34}$S abundance. For the first time, we report positive gradients of $^{32}$S/$^{33}$S, $^{34}$S/$^{36}$S, $^{33}$S/$^{36}$S, and $^{32}{\rm S}/^{36}{\rm S}$ in our Galaxy. The predicted $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C ratios from the latest GCE models are in good agreement with our results. While $^{32}$S/$^{34}$S and $^{32}$S/$^{36}$S ratios show larger differences at larger RGC, $^{32}$S/$^{33}$S ratios show an offset across the entire inner 12 kpc of the Milky Way., HMSFRs: high-mass star-forming regions. Abstract: Two low-lying unbound states in 16C are investigated by deuteron inelastic scattering in inverse kinematics. Besides the 2 state at 5.45 MeV previously measured in a 1n knockout reaction, a new resonant state at 6.89 MeV is observed for the first time. The inelastic scattering angular distributions of these two states are well reproduced by the distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) calculation with an l = 1 excitation. In addition, the spin-parities of the unbound states are discussed and tentatively assigned based on shell model calculations using the modified YSOX interaction.

9. MiR-129 reduces CDDP resistance in gastric cancer cells by inhibiting MAPK3

Abstract: Abnormal expression of mitogen-activated protein kinase 3 (MAPK3) is related to invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance of multiple tumor cells. MiR-129 expression is associated with gastric cancer. Bioinformatics analysis showed a targeting relation between miR-129 and MAPK3. This study investigated whether miR-129 plays a role in regulating MAPK3 expression, affecting proliferation, apoptosis, and cisplatin (CDDP) resistance of gastric cancer cells.The dual-luciferase reporter gene assay was used to assess the targeted regulation between miR-129 and MAPK3. The expression of miR-129 and MAPK3 in CDDP-resistant cell line MGC-803/CDDP and the parental MGC-803 cells was measured. MGC-803/CDDP cells were cultured in vitro and divided into miR-NC group and miR-129 mimic group. The expression of MAPK3 and p-MAPK3 protein were detected by Western blot and the effect of CDDP treatment on cell apoptosis and proliferation was detected by flow cytometry.There was a targeted regulation relation between miR-129 and MAPK3 mRNA. MiR-129 expression in MGC-803/CDDP cells was significantly lower than that in MGC-803 cells and the expression of MAPK3 mRNA and protein was significantly higher than that in MGC-803 cells. Compared with miR-NC group, the expression of MAPK3 and p-MAPK3 in MHC-803/CDDP cells in miR-129 mimic transfection group was significantly decreased, with increased cell apoptosis and reduced cell proliferation.The decreased expression of miR-129 and the up-regulation of MAPK3 are associated with CDDP resistance in gastric cancer cells. Overexpression of miR-129 inhibits MAPK3 expression and cell proliferation, it induces cell apoptosis and reduces CDDP resistance.

10. Galactic interstellar sulfur isotopes: A radial $^{32}$S$/$$^{34}$S gradient?

Abstract: We present observations of $^{12}$C$^{32}$S, $^{12}$C$^{34}$S, $^{13}$C$^{32}$S and $^{12}$C$^{33}$S J=2$-$1 lines toward a large sample of massive star forming regions by using the Arizona Radio Observatory 12-m telescope and the IRAM\,30-m. Taking new measurements of the carbon $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C ratio, the $^{32}$S$/$$^{34}$S isotope ratio was determined from the integrated $^{13}$C$^{32}$S/$^{12}$C$^{34}$S line intensity ratios for our sample. Our analysis shows a $^{32}$S$/$$^{34}$S gradient from the inner Galaxy out to a galactocentric distance of 12\,kpc. An unweighted least-squares fit to our data yields $^{32}$S$/$$^{34}$S = (1.56 $\pm$ 0.17)$\rm D_{\rm GC}$ + (6.75 $\pm$ 1.22) with a correlation coefficient of 0.77. Errors represent 1$\sigma$ standard deviations. Testing this result by (a) excluding the Galactic center region, (b) excluding all sources with C$^{34}$S opacities $>$ 0.25, (c) combining our data and old data from previous study, and (d) using different sets of carbon isotope ratios leads to the conclusion that the observed $^{32}$S$/$$^{34}$S gradient is not an artefact but persists irrespective of the choice of the sample and carbon isotope data. A gradient with rising $^{32}$S$/$$^{34}$S values as a function of galactocentric radius implies that the solar system ratio should be larger than that of the local interstellar medium. With the new carbon isotope ratios we obtain indeed a local $^{32}$S$/$$^{34}$S isotope ratio about 10$\%$ below the solar system one, as expected in case of decreasing $^{32}$S$/$$^{34}$S ratios with time and increased amounts of stellar processing. However, taking older carbon isotope ratios based on a lesser amount of data, such a decrease is not seen. No systematic variation of $^{34}$S$/$$^{33}$S ratios along galactocentric distance was found., Comment: 28 pages, 11 figures, 5 tables. Accepted for publication in ApJ

11. Isothermal section of the Ni-Mn-Sb ternary system at 773K

Abstract: The isothermal section of the Ni-Mn-Sb ternary system at 773 K was measured by means of 117 alloys which were analyzed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS), and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) techniques. The existence of 7 binary compounds, namely NiMn, Mn2Sb, MnSb, NiSb2, NiSb, Ni5Sb2, Ni3Sb and 2 ternary compounds, namely Ni2MnSb and NiMnSb were confirmed for this isothermal section. The four binary compounds Ni3Sb (Cu3Ti structure, Pmmn space group), Ni5Sb2 (Ni5Sb2-type structure, C2 space group), NiSb2 (FeS2-type structure, Pnnm space group) and Mn2Sb (Cu2Sb-type structure, P4/nmm space group) in the binary systems Ni-Sb and Mn-Sb were stoichiometric compounds, the homogeneity ranges of which were negligible. However the five single phases in the Ni-Mn system and the two binary compounds MnSb and NiSb showed more or less homogeneity ranges formed by substitution of Mn and Sb for Ni atom. The Heusler compound ? (Ni2MnSb) has L21-type ordered structure with space group Fm-3m, a = 0.6017 nm. And the crystal structure for the Half-Heusler compound ? (NiMnSb) is C1b-type (F-43m) with a = 0.5961 nm. The approximate homogeneity ranges of the two ternary compounds ? and ? at 773 K were investigated.

Abstract: An inelastic excitation and cluster-decay experiment $\rm {^2H}(^{16}C,~{^{4}He}+{^{12}Be}~or~{^{6}He}+{^{10}Be}){^2H}$ was carried out to investigate the linear-chain clustering structure in neutron-rich $\rm {^{16}C}$. For the first time, decay-paths from the $\rm {^{16}C}$ resonances to various states of the final nuclei were determined, thanks to the well-resolved $Q$-value spectra obtained from the three-fold coincident measurement. The close-threshold resonance at 16.5 MeV is assigned as the ${J^\pi}={0^+}$ band head of the predicted positive-parity linear-chain molecular band with ${(3/2_\pi^-)^2}{(1/2_\sigma^-)^2}$ configuration, according to the associated angular correlation and decay analysis. Other members of this band were found at 17.3, 19.4, and 21.6 MeV based on their selective decay properties, being consistent with the theoretical predictions. Another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2 MeV which decays almost exclusively to $\rm {^{6}He}+{^{10}Be{(\sim6~ MeV)}}$ final channel, corresponding well to another predicted linear-chain structure with the pure $\sigma$-bond configuration., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

14. Interstellar Nitrogen Isotope Ratios: New NH3 Data from the Galactic Center out to the Perseus Arm

Abstract: Our aim is to measure the interstellar 14N/15N ratio across the Galaxy, to establish a standard data set on interstellar ammonia isotope ratios, and to provide new constraints on the Galactic chemical evolution. The (J, K) = (1, 1), (2, 2), and (3, 3) lines of 14NH3 and 15NH3 were observed with the Shanghai Tianma 65 m radio telescope (TMRT) and the Effelsberg 100 m telescope toward a large sample of 210 sources. One hundred fourty-one of these sources were detected by the TMRT in 14NH3. Eight of them were also detected in 15NH3. For 10 of the 36 sources with strong NH3 emission, the Effelsberg 100 m telescope successfully detected their 15NH3(1, 1) lines, including 3 sources (G081.7522, W51D, and Orion-KL) with detections by the TMRT telescope. Thus, a total of 15 sources are detected in both the 14NH3 and 15NH3 lines. Line and physical parameters for these 15 sources are derived, including optical depths, rotation and kinetic temperatures, and total column densities. 14N/15N isotope ratios were determined from the 14NH3/15NH3 abundance ratios. The isotope ratios obtained from both telescopes agree for a given source within the uncertainties, and no dependence on heliocentric distance and kinetic temperature is seen. 14N/15N ratios tend to increase with galactocentric distance, confirming a radial nitrogen isotope gradient. This is consistent with results from recent Galactic chemical model calculations, including the impact of superasymptotic giant branch stars and novae.

15. Water Mist Fire Suppression Modeling of Rack Storage Fires in Open Space

Abstract: This study presents the modeling progress for water mist suppression of deep-seated solid fuel fires in a rack-storage configuration. The solid fuel consists of 16 pallet loads arranged in a two-tier high, two-pallet load-wide and four-pallet load-long array. Each pallet load is a corrugated cardboard box sitting on a hardwood pallet. The simulations are performed using FireFOAM, with several key sub-models developed for water-based suppression, such as spray dispersion, surface film flow for cooling/wetting solid surfaces, gas-phase flame extinction/re-ignition, spray radiation attenuation, and soot emission reduction due to spray cooling. The simulation results are discussed in comparison with the test data.

It is installed at the CERN Neutrino Platform in a specially-constructed beam that delivers charged pions, kaons, protons, muons and electrons with momenta in the range 0.3 GeV/c to 7 GeV/c. Beam line instrumentation provides accurate momentum measurements and particle identification. The ProtoDUNE-SP detector is a prototype for the first far detector module of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment, and it incorporates full-size components as designed for that module. This paper describes the beam line, the time projection chamber, the photon detectors, the cosmic-ray tagger, the signal processing and particle reconstruction. It presents the first results on ProtoDUNE-SP's performance, including noise and gain measurements, dE/dx calibration for muons, protons, pions and electrons, drift electron lifetime measurements, and photon detector noise, signal sensitivity and time resolution measurements. The measured values meet or exceed the specifications for the DUNE far detector, in several cases by large margins. Abstract: This Letter reports the first extraction of individual antineutrino spectra from ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu fission and an improved measurement of the prompt energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay. The analysis uses 3.5×10^{6} inverse beta-decay candidates in four near antineutrino detectors in 1958 days. The individual antineutrino spectra of the two dominant isotopes, ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu, are extracted using the evolution of the prompt spectrum as a function of the isotope fission fractions. In the energy window of 4-6 MeV, a 7% (9%) excess of events is observed for the ^{235}U (^{239}Pu) spectrum compared with the normalized Huber-Mueller model prediction. The significance of discrepancy is 4.0σ for ^{235}U spectral shape compared with the Huber-Mueller model prediction. The shape of the measured inverse beta-decay prompt energy spectrum disagrees with the prediction of the Huber-Mueller model at 5.3σ. In the energy range of 4-6 MeV, a maximal local discrepancy of 6.3σ is observed.

Abstract: The interstellar oxygen isotopic ratio of 18O/17O can reflect the relative amount of the secular enrichment by ejecta from high-mass versus intermediate-mass stars. Previous observations found a Galactic gradient of 18O/17O, i.e., low ratios in the Galactic center and large values in the Galactic disk, which supports the insideout formation scenario of our Galaxy. However, the observed objects are not many and, in particular, not so many at large galactocentric distances. Thus we started a systematic study on Galactic interstellar 18O/17O, through observations of C18O and C17O multi-transition lines toward a large sample of 286 sources (at least one order of magnitude larger than previous ones), from the Galactic center region to the far outer Galaxy (~22 kpc). Here we present our observations of J=1-0 lines of C18O and C17O, with the ARO12m and the IRAM 30m telescope. We detected successfully both C18O and C17O 1-0 lines for 34 sources among our IRAM30m sample of 50 targets and for 166 sources among our ARO12m sample of 260 targets. The C18O optical depth effect on our ratio results, evaluated by fitting results of C17O spectra with hyperfine components and our RADEX non-LTE model calculation for the strongest source, was found to be insignificant. Beam dilution does not seem to be a problem either, which was supported by the fact of no systematic variation between the isotopic ratio and the heliocentric distance, and consistent measured ratios from two telescopes for most of those detected sources. Our results, though there are still very few detections made for sources in the outer Galaxy, confirm the apparent 18O/17O gradient of 18O/17O = (0.10+-0.03)R_GC+(2.95+-0.30), with a Pearson's rank correlation coefficient R = 0.69. Abstract: To investigate the effects of adenovirus-mediated human tissue kallikrein 1(hTK-1) and/or human tissue metalloproteinase inhibitor 1 (hTIMP-1) gene delivery on the neointima formation in balloon-injured rat carotids and related mechanism.Forty-six male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned into 6 groups with the random number table: (1) sham-operated group(n=6), (2) angioplasty group (n=8), (3) vector virus group (n=8), (4) hTK-1 group (n=8), (5) hTIMP-1 group (n=8), (6) hTK-1-hTIMP-1 group (n=8). Except sham rats, all rats underwent carotid artery balloon injury and local delivery of saline or different recombined adenoviruses respectively. Rats were sacrificed 14 days later. Intima/media area ratio was assessed on hematoxylin-eosin stained tissue section. Immunofluorescence images stained for hTK-1, hTIMP-1 were obtained and analyzed by the confocal microscope for co-localization examination of hTK-1 and hTIMP-1. The protein expression levels of hTK-1, hTIMP-1, matrix metalloproteinases(MMP)-2 and MMP-9 were determined by Western blot. Immune histochemical staining for PCNA was also performed.(1)Intima area, intima/media area ratio, PCNA, MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels were all significantly increased in rats underwent angioplasty (did or did not receive vector virus) compared with sham-operated rats (all P0.01) while above parameters were similar between rats underwent angioplasty or vector virus delivery (all P0.05). (2) The intima area of rats received vector virus, hTK-1, hTIMP-1 or dual gene transfer were (0.160±0.010), (0.110±0.015), (0.121±0.016) or (0.081±0.008) mm(2) respectively, intima area was similar between rats received hTK-1 or hTIMP-1 (P0.05), differences were found between other groups (all P0.01). The intima/media area ratio of rats received vector virus, hTK-1, hTIMP-1 or dual gene transfer were 2.035±0.117, 1.443±0.097, 1.522±0.078 or 0.972±0.072 respectively, no difference was found between rats received hTK-1 or hTIMP-1 in intima/media area ratio (all P0.05), differences were found between other groups (all P0.01). The MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression of rats received vector virus, hTK-1, hTIMP-1 or dual gene transfer were 0.817±0.036, 0.606±0.044, 0.571±0.061 or 0.455±0.030 and 0.745±0.057, 0.613±0.038, 0.582±0.050 or 0.473±0.038 respectively, no difference was found between rats received hTK-1 or hTIMP-1 in MMP-2 or MMP-9 expression (all P0.05), differences were found between other groups (all P0.01). The PCNA expression of rats received vector virus, hTK-1, hTIMP-1 or dual gene transfer were 0.065±0.007, 0.052±0.004, 0.055±0.007 or 0.031±0.004 respectively, no difference was found between rats received hTK-1or hTIMP-1 in PCNA expression (all P0.05), differences were found between other groups (all P0.01).hTK-1 and hTIMP-1 co-overexpression may synergistically inhibit neointimal hyperplasia, attenuate vascular remodeling and reduce restenosis possibly via down regulating the expressions of PCNA, MMP-2 and MMP-9 in balloon-injured rat carotids.

23. SERS Titration of 4-Mercaptopyridine Self-Assembled Monolayers at Aqueous Buffer/Gold Interfaces

Abstract: Determination of the surface pK(a) of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) at aqueous buffer/gold interfaces using surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) measurements, namely, SERS titration, is reported for the first time. From the analysis of pH-dependent SERS spectra of 4-mercaptopyridine monolayers on gold, the pK(1/2) (3.9 ± 0.2) was determined. By further correlating the surface pH value with the bulk pH value in terms of the Gouy-Chapmann model, the surface pK(a) (5.3 ± 0.3) was evaluated accordingly. Compared to the conventional contact angle titration, SERS titration has the advantage of giving further insight into the microscopic and dynamic information of the surface-confined functional groups. In addition, such a technique has high sensitivity, micrometer spatial resolution, and chemical selectivity.

Abstract: Structural characteristics of tumor microvascular bed and its reactivity to vasoactive agents were studied by histological and ultrastructural examination and tissue blood flow measurement. The results showed that newly formed vessels in the tumor tissue consisted of a single layer of endothelial cells with multi-layer basement membranes and a few pericytes. Smooth muscle cells and nerve endings were absent. The tissue blood flow in highly proliferative parts of tumors was relatively constant and not influenced by tumor size, even though the distribution of neovasculature in tumor tissue was very uneven in distribution. The only vasoactive agent which can selectively increase the tumor blood flow was angiotensin II, whereas other adrenergic vasoconstrictors did not show this action.
