Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). However, the iterative refinement process of MME is computationally much costly and makes the method impractical in real- (or near real-) time systems. Also, eliminating the iterative refinement step deteriorates the motion estimation result. In this paper, we propose motion adaptive interpolation schemes for noniterative MME, which use BMA to compute the motion vectors (MVs) of mesh nodes. The proposed algorithm aims at compromising the MME and BMA by modifying the interpolation patterns (IPPs) of the MME in an adaptive manner, based on the MVs of mesh nodes. Experimental results show notable rate-distortion improvement over both BMA and conventional non-iterative MME, with acceptable visual quality and system complexity, especially when applied to sequences with medium to high motion activities.

Abortion in sheep and goats causes enormous economic losses. This study revealed the epidemiology of abortion caused by Brucella melitensis, Coxiella burnetii and Salmonella abortusovis in Baluchi sheep in Sistan region. In the autumn of 2015 and winter of 2016, a total of 78 aborted sheep fetuses were collected from all over the Sistan region. Risk factors, including location of livestock, history of abortion, gender of fetus, age of fetus, age of ewe and parity were obtained using a questionnaire. The results showed that 27 fetuses (35%) were infected with these organisms. Infection with B. melitensis, C. burnetii and S. abortusovis were identified respectively in 15 (19.2%), 13 (16.6%) and 1 (1.3%) fetus. Logistic regression analysis showed that infection with B. melitensis in male fetuses is higher than females (OR=3.73, P=0.040), also infection with C. burnetii in ≤2 years' ewes (OR=0.047, P=0.009) and 2-5 years' ewes (OR=0.197, P=0.069) is lower than ≥5 years' ewes. Abstract  Photoinduced effects were analyzed through a novel approach in a guest-host DR1 dye-doped organic–inorganic nanocomposite at two cured and uncured cases. Moreover, the investigation was performed for the material over curing process. The results reflect that by increasing the heating time and completing the curing procedure, birefringence, dichroism, and the maximum probe transmittance will be enhanced. The best time of complete curing of the sample at the temperature 140 °C was also determined by measuring the saturated birefringence-probe intensity once every 40 min. In this approach, it was proved that the least time needed for complete curing of the sample was about 4 h. Last but not least, comparing rise and fall times in the birefringence-probe intensity of the cured sample (as a thermoset polymer) with that of a DR1 dye-doped poly (methyl methacrylate; PMMA; as a thermoplastic polymer of the second kind) showed that how the dye molecules can behave completely different in the two microscopically rigid and flexible structures. The purpose of this study was to design and develop a self-supporting glass MOF membrane (GMM) including its design, fabrication under different heat treatment temperatures, analysis of its physical-chemical properties, and assessment of its separation performance. Glass MOFs preserve metal-ligand bonding structures similar to their crystalline counterparts, providing intrinsic gas separation properties alongside the benefits of amorphous materials, including reduced grain boundaries and ease of processing. In this work, ZIF-62 was melted and then cooled to fabricate GMMs using vitrification to enhance molecular sieving. This study systematically examines the impact of varying thermal treatment temperatures (400-475 °C) on the physical and chemical transformations of GMMs, revealing their effects on the porosity, defect formation, and molecular sieving performance through advanced characterization techniques (e.g., solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance ( 13 C NMR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), He pycnometry, and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS)). The optimal GMM exhibits an impressive separation performance, particularly for H 2 separation. The GMM at 4 bar and 25 °C exhibited He, H 2 , CO 2 , N 2 , and CH 4 gas permeations of 576.37, 509.23, 146.07, 3.45, and 2.28 barrer, respectively. The ideal selectivities of H 2 /CH 4 , CO 2 /N 2 , CO 2 /CH 4 , H 2 /N 2 , and H 2 /CO 2 gas pairs were 223.47, 42.37, 64.10, 147.71, and 3.49, respectively, which significantly exceed earlier reported values for ZIF-62 membranes, demonstrating the significant potential for GMMs as high-performance molecular sieve membranes, particularly for H 2 separation. Vitrinite reflectance (VR) is a critical measure of source rock maturity in geochemistry. Although VR is a widely accepted measure of maturity, its accurate measurement often proves challenging and costly. Rock-Eval pyrolysis offers the advantages of being cost-effective, fast, and providing accurate data. Previous studies have employed empirical equations and traditional machine learning methods using T-max data for VR prediction, but these approaches often yielded subpar results. Therefore, the quest to develop a precise method for predicting vitrinite reflectance based on Rock-Eval data becomes particularly valuable. This study presents a novel approach to predicting VR using advanced machine learning models, namely ExtraTree and XGBoost, along with new ways to prepare the data, such as winsorization for outlier treatment and principal component analysis (PCA) for dimensionality reduction. The depth and three Rock-Eval parameters (T-max, S1/TOC, and HI) were used as input variables. Three model sets were examined: Set 1, which involved both Winsorization and PCA; Set 2, which only included Winsorization; and Set 3, which did not include either. The results indicate that the ExtraTree model in Set 1 demonstrated the highest level of predictive accuracy, whereas Set 3 exhibited the lowest level of accuracy, confirming the methodology's effectiveness. The ExtraTree model obtained an overall R2 score of 0.997, surpassing traditional methods by a significant margin. Despite the known impacts on climate change of carbon dioxide emissions, the continued use of fossil fuels for energy generation leading to the emission of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) into the atmosphere is evident. Therefore, innovation to address and reduce CO 2 emissions from industrial operations remains an urgent and crucial priority. A viable strategy in the area is postcombustion capture mainly through absorption by aqueous alkanolamines, which focuses on the separation of CO 2 from flue gas, despite its limitations. Within this context, porous materials, particularly metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), have arisen as favorable alternatives owing to their significant adsorption capacity, selectivity, and reduced regeneration energy demands. This research evaluates the engineering insights into tailored MOFs for enhanced CO 2 capture, focusing on three series of MOFs (ZIF, UiO-66, and BTC) to investigate the effects of organic ligands, functional groups, and metal ions. The evaluation encompassed a range of aspects including adsorption isotherms of pure gases [CO 2 and nitrogen (N 2 )] and mixed gas mixture (CO 2 and N 2 with 15:85% ratio), along with utilization of the ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) to simulate multicomponent gas adsorption isotherms. Moreover, the reliability of IAST for mixed gas adsorption prediction has been investigated in detail. The research offers valuable insights into the correlation between the characteristics of MOFs and their effectiveness in gas separation and how these characteristics contribute to the differences between IAST predictions and experimental results. The findings enhance the understanding of how to enhance MOF characteristics in order to reduce CO 2 emissions and also highlight the need for advanced models that consider thermodynamic nonidealities to accurately predict the behavior of mixed gas adsorption in MOFs. As a result, the incorporation of MOFs with enhanced predictability and reliability into CO 2 capture industrial processes is facilitated.

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) have garnered significant attention in different fields due to their exceptional mechanical and physical properties, making them promising candidates for various applications. Several techniques, including physical vapor deposition and pulsed laser deposition (PLD), have been employed for the fabrication of HEA thin films. In this study, we explore a novel approach to synthesizing the lightweight HEA (LWHEA) AlCrFeMnTi using PLD in air at atmospheric pressure with a particular focus on the influence of the laser wavelength on the deposition process and the resulting alloy characteristics. This research investigates the impact of different laser wavelengths on the LWHEA's characterization and the optimization of laser wavelength dependence in air at atmospheric pressure PLD of LWHEA AlCrFeMnTi for tailored surface properties such as phase composition, microstructure, and corrosion resistance. Systematically varying the laser wavelength was attempted to optimize the deposition conditions. This was aimed at achieving enhanced properties and precise control over the alloy's composition. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of the open air PLD process for LWHEAs and sheds light on the role of the laser wavelength in tailoring their properties, which can have significant implications for the development of advanced materials for aerospace, automotive, and other high-performance applications. Introduction: Digital health interventions, particularly mobile health platforms, have shown promise in supporting patients with respiratory conditions, but their application in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) remains limited. We aimed to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and potential clinical benefit of the novel PAHcare™ digital platform as a patient-centred intervention for PAH management through a prospective, single-arm, multicenter pilot study conducted on 53 patients diagnosed with PAH who used the platform for 6 months., Methods: The primary objective was to assess the impact on Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) through questionnaires. Secondary objectives included evaluating clinical outcomes, including disease progression, PAH signs and symptoms, the 6-min walking test, and the patient's symptom perception. Additionally, we assessed patient satisfaction and engagement with the PAHcare™ platform, interaction with health coaches, retention, costs and healthcare resource utilisation (HCRU), and safety through monitoring device incidents., Results: Minimal changes in HRQoL and clinical outcomes were observed over 6 months. A noteworthy 92.4% of patients actively used the platform in the first month, maintaining high usage throughout the study. Patient satisfaction was substantial, with more than half of the patients expressing excellence in service quality, willingness to reuse the platform, and fulfilment of their needs. Health coach interaction was high, with 76% of patients initiating contact within the first week. User retention rates were 70%, with prevalent ongoing usage and interaction with healthcare professionals even after the study. In terms of HCRU and costs, the study showed no significant changes in PAH-related hospital admissions, clinical visits, or tests. Although separation of solutes from organic solutions is considered a challenging process, it is inevitable in various chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. OSN membranes are the heart of OSN technology that are widely utilized to separate various solutes and contaminants from organic solvents, which is now considered an emerging field. Hence, numerous studies have been attracted to this field to manufacture novel membranes with outstanding properties. Thin-film composite (TFC) and nanocomposite (TFN) membranes are two different classes of membranes that have been recently utilized for this purpose. TFC and TFN membranes are made up of similar layers, and the difference is the use of various nanoparticles in TFN membranes, which are classified into two types of porous and nonporous ones, for enhancing the permeate flux. This study aims to review recent advances in TFC and TFN membranes fabricated for organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) applications. Here, we will first study the materials used to fabricate the support layer, not only the membranes which are not stable in organic solvents and require to be cross-linked, but also those which are inherently stable in harsh media and do not need any cross-linking step, and all of their advantages and disadvantages. Then, we will study the effects of fabricating different interlayers on the performance of the membranes, and the mechanisms of introducing an interlayer in the regulation of the PA structure. Introduction: Chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis (COM) is a prominent complication of chemotherapy (CT). Non-thermal CO2 laser therapy (NTCLT) has been demonstrated as an innovative and safe photobiomodulative approach in some kinds of painful oral lesions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the palliative effects of one session of NTCLT on COM lesions. Methods: Patients with painful COM (WHO grade:≥2) were included in this before-after clinical trial based on the eligibility criteria. The oral lesions were irradiated with a CO2 laser (power: 1 W, scanning the lesions with the rapid circular motion of the defocused handpiece) through a thick layer (3-4 mm) of a transparent gel containing a high-water content. The severity of pain in the lesions was self-assessed using a 0-to-10 visual analogue scale (VAS) for 7 consecutive days. The evaluating physician visited the patients on the 3 rd and 7 th days in search of any kind of complications. Results: Seventeen adult patients with 35 patches of OM due to chemotherapy of solid tumors completed the trial. Immediately after NTCLT, the mean for non-contact VAS pain scores of the lesions significantly declined from 4.91±2.356 to 0.29±0.622 ( P <0.001) and the mean for contact VAS pain scores from 7.77±1.57 to 1.31±1.18 ( P <0.001). The mean VAS pain scores of the lesions showed statistically significant differences between the follow-up periods compared to the baseline ( P <0.001). The process was completely pain-free and required no anesthesia. After NTCLT, no kind of thermal adverse effects such as irritation, destruction, aggravation and even erythema were observed. Growing evidence demonstrates that cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) are responsible for tumor genesis, growth, metastasis, and treatment response. Therefore, targeting these cells may contribute to tumor control. It has been proposed that targeting key molecules and pathways of proliferative functions can be more effective than killing CAFs. In this regard, multicellular aggregates, like spheroids, can be used as human tumor models. Spheroids closely resemble human tumors and mimic many of their features. Microfluidic systems are ideal for cultivation and study of spheroids. These systems can be designed with different biological and synthetic matrices in order to have a more realistic simulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME). In this study, we investigated the effect of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) on 3D spheroid invasion of MDA-MB cells exposed to hydrogel matrix derived from CAFs. The number of invasive cells significantly decreased in CAF-ECM hydrogel treated with ATRA (p < 0.05), which indicates that ATRA could be effective for CAFs normalization. This experiment was done using an agarose-alginate microfluidic chip. Locally advanced stages of squamous cancers of the head and neck (LAHNCs) acquire high propensity for local and systemic relapse. Addition of systemic therapy as an induction (IC) to the standard concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) has become an approach of many practitioners. This strategy has shown to reduce metastases but did not affect survival in unselected populations. Meanwhile, the induction regimen including docetaxel, cisplatin, 5-FU (TPF) has shown superiority over other combinations, however, a survival advantage was not detected when compared to CCRT alone. This may be attributed to its high toxicity profile, inducing treatment delay, resistance, or variations in tumor sites and responses. Currently, newer systemic therapy combinations are being tested and indicators of benefit are being identified. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of probiotics on the treatment of constipation in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) by analyzing data from published randomized clinical trials (RCTs). PD is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by clinical symptoms such as rigidity, bradykinesia, and resting tremor. Constipation is a common complaint reported by PD patients. Probiotics are often used to treat functional constipation. The potential mechanisms behind PD-related constipation include dysfunction of the enteric nervous system due to alpha-synuclein aggregation, dyssynergic contractions of the puborectalis muscle, and alterations of the gut microbiome., Method: To conduct this study, we searched Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar for published articles on PD, probiotics, and constipation. We selected RCTs from 944 studies, and ultimately included 3 RCTs in our meta-analysis. The frequency of bowel movements per week was the only index that could be summarized among the records. We extracted and analyzed the results as means and standard deviations., Result: We calculated a standardized mean difference (SMD) of 0.92 (95% CI, 0.65 to 1.19; I-squared = 57.0%; p < 0.001) to determine the treatment effect in terms of frequency of bowel movements per week in the RCTs., Conclusion: Our results show that probiotic intake has beneficial effects on constipation in PD patients. Introduction: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare, multifactorial, chronic condition that requires ongoing monitoring and assessment. PAHcare™ is a novel, patient-centered digital platform that provides software intended for use on patients' mobile phones (downloadable application) and web-based dashboards for use by physicians and health coaches (HC). We describe herein the protocol of a clinical study aimed at evaluating the clinical benefit and safety of PAHcare™ for the routine management of patients with PAH., Methods and Analysis: In this prospective, single cohort, multicenter study, 50 patients with PAH will be recruited at six specialized PAH units from reference hospitals of the public Spanish healthcare system. The PAHcare™ digital health platform allows patients to log health and lifestyle information while also providing structured content for patient education, medication reminders, and behavioral and lifestyle coaching from a remote HC. Evaluation will be primarily focused on the impact of the platform use on the patient's health-related quality of life (HRQoL) via questionnaires completion through electronic patient-reported outcomes. Moreover, the analysis of the impact on the patient's functional status, signs and symptoms of PAH, patient costs and healthcare resource utilization, satisfaction, knowledge of the disease and its management, and adherence to and safety of the platform will be secondary outcomes. A green and efficient one-pot multi-component protocol was developed for the synthesis of some novel dihydrochromeno[4,3-b]pyrrol-3-yl derivatives through the reaction of arylglyoxals, malono derivatives, and different 4-amino coumarins in ethanol at reflux condition. In this method, all products were obtained in good to excellent yield. Next, all synthesized derivatives were evaluated for their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Most of the compounds displayed potent inhibitory activities with IC 50 values in the range of 48.65 ± 0.01-733.83 ± 0.10 μM compared to the standard inhibitor acarbose (IC 50  = 750.90 ± 0.14 μM). The kinetic study of compound 5e as the most potent derivative (IC 50  = 48.65 ± 0.01 μM) showed a competitive mechanism with a K i value of 42.6 µM. Chitosan has a biocompatible, biodegradable, and nontoxic nature. The effectiveness of Nano-chitosan films in the field of wound healing has been confirmed previously. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of two dressings (chitosan and nanosilver dressings) in the treatment of refractory diabetic wounds. A total of 25 eligible patients with chronic diabetic wound were included and randomly assigned to receive chitosan (13 patients) or nanosilver (12 cases) dressing. The dressings were applied on the wounds based on their protocols and patients were visited and examined by an experienced dermatologist every week. The clinical assessments and healing rates were recorded using diabetic-foot-infection (DFI) score at the 2nd, 4th, and 6th weeks during treatment. The study endpoint, safety and tolerability profile were also documented. The patterns of change in total 10-item-DFI wound scores did not differ significantly over time between the two groups. In both groups, the total 10-item-DFI wound score reduced continuously through the course of study. The mean percentage reduction of this score from baseline was 78.1% and 74.1% in the chitosan and nanosilver dressing groups, respectively. Both dressings were well tolerated and there were no adverse events. The relatively small sample size in both groups was the main limitation of the study. Our findings confirmed that chitosan may be safely and effectively used for the treatment of diabetic wounds just like the nanosilver (Acticoat TM ) dressing. The possibility of creating well-controlled empty space within liquids is conceptually intriguing, and from an application perspective, full of potential. Since the concept of porous liquids (PLs) arose several years ago, research efforts in this field have intensified. This review highlights the design, synthesis, and applicability of PLs through a thorough examination of the current state-of-the-art. Following a detailed examination of the fundamentals of PLs, we examine the different synthetic approaches proposed to date, discuss the nature of PLs, and their pathway from the laboratory to practical application. Finally, possible challenges and opportunities are outlined.

Cardiac troponin-I (cTnI) is a well-known biomarker for the diagnosis and control of acute myocardial infarction in clinical practice. To improve the accuracy and reliability of cTnI electrochemical immunosensors, we propose a multilayer nanostructure consisting of Fe 3 O 4 -COOH labeled anti-cTnI monoclonal antibody (Fe 3 O 4 -COOH-Ab 1 ) and anti-cTnI polyclonal antibody (Ab 2 ) conjugated on Au-Ag nanoparticles (NPs) decorated on a metal-organic framework (Au-Ag@ZIF-67-Ab 2 ). In this design, Fe 3 O 4 -COOH was used for separation of cTnI in specimens and signal amplification, hierarchical porous ZIF-67 extremely enhanced the specific surface area, and Au-Ag NPs synergically promoted the conductivity and sensitivity. They were additionally employed as an immobilization platform to enhance antibody loading. Electron microscopy images indicated that Ag-Au NPs with an average diameter of 1.9 ± 0.5 nm were uniformly decorated on plate-like ZIF-67 particles (with average size of 690 nm) without any agglomeration. Several electrochemical assays were implemented to precisely evaluate the immunosensor performance. The square wave voltammetry technique exhibited the best performance with a sensitivity of 0.98 mA mL cm -2 ng -1 and a detection limit of 0.047 pg mL -1 in the linear range of 0.04 to 8 ng mL -1 .

It is increasingly apparent that porous liquids (PLs) have unique use cases due to the combination of ready liquid handling and their inherently high adsorption capacity. Among the PL types, those with permanent porosity are the most promising. Although Type II and III PLs have economic synthetic methods and can be made from a huge variety of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and solvents, these nanocomposites still need to be stable to be useful. This work aims to systematically explore the possibilities of creating PLs using different MOF modification methods. This delivered underpinning insights into the molecular-level influence between solvent and MOF on the overall nanocomposite stability. Zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks were combined with two different solvents of varying chemistry to deliver CO 2 sorption capacities as high as 2.9 mmol g -1 at 10 bar. The results of the study could have far-reaching ramifications for future investigations in the PL field.

A highly efficient nanofiltration membrane should exhibit high separation performance in removing divalent salts and organic solutes, as well as high permeation to meet practical separation and purification applications in aqueous media. Here, we designed a series of hybrid multilayer thin film membranes filled with the structurally and morphologically different nanofillers such as hexagonal boron nitride (HBN) nanosheets and metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles, consisting of 3 and 6 layer pairs of polyelectrolyte through the layer-by-layer self-assembly technique (LBL) and characterized them in terms of dye and salt separation, as well as permeation. The rejection performance and permeability of the designed membranes manifested that HBN nanosheets were more effective than MOF nanoparticles in achieving a high-performance membrane. As compared to the bare multilayer thin film membrane, the addition of HBN nanosheets within the negatively-charged layers of the multilayer thin film membrane consisting of 6 bilayers resulted in good retention of up to 93% and 92% for acid blue (ACB) and bromophenol blue (BPB) dye molecules, respectively. Besides, this membrane exhibited 60% and 45% improvement in the water flux for ACB and BPB solutions, respectively, while the rejection of the sulfate ions maintained an acceptable value around 78%. Furthermore, it was found that this HBN-embedded hybrid multilayer membrane had superior potential for the removal of coherent foulant compared to all samples., (Copyright © 2021. What Is Known and Objective: Community pharmacists can play an important role in controlling chronic diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of pharmacists' educational interventions in the community pharmacy settings on asthma control and severity, quality of life (QOL) and medication adherence., Methods: Databases PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science were searched for evidence regarding asthma severity and control, QOL, and medication adherence after pharmacists' interventions in community pharmacy settings. Twenty-one studies were eligible for qualitative and quantitative analysis. Indices and questionnaires were used in the studies, such as Asthma-related quality of life (IAQLQ), Asthma Control Test (ACT), Perceived Control of Asthma Questionnaire (PCAQ), inhaler technique (IT), Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ), 36-Item Short Form survey (SF-36) and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR). The outcomes were extracted, pooled and analysed as percentages, means, standard deviations and errors, and 95% confidence intervals (CIs)., Results and Discussion: Community pharmacists in all studies educated and followed up the asthmatic patients, addressing the outcome measures. Pharmacists underwent training courses of at least a day. Standardized mean differences for the indices were pooled as follows: IAQLQ -0.241 (95% CI, -0.362 to -0.121), ACT 0.14 (95% CI, 0.02 to 0.27), PCAQ -0.15 (95% CI, -0.28 to 0.01), IT 0.79 (95% CI, 0.05 to 1.54), ACQ -0.50 (95% CI, -0.69 to -0.30), SF-36 0.39 (95% CI, 0.16 to 0.62), PEFR 0.13 (95% CI, 0.01 to 0.26) and asthma symptoms score -0.34 (95% CI, -0.49 to -0.18)., What Is New and Conclusion: Pharmacists' educational interventions in community pharmacy settings could significantly improve asthma severity and control, QOL and medication adherence., (© 2021 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Background: Materials with high atomic numbers are part of the composition of dental implant systems. In radiotherapy of oral cavity cancers, an implant can cause dose perturbations that affect target definition, dose calculation, and dose distribution. In consequence, this may result in poor tumor control and higher complications. In this study, we evaluated dose homogeneity when a dental implant replaced a normal tooth. We also aimed to evaluate the concordance of dose calculations with dose measurements., Materials and Methods: In this study, 2 sets of planning CT scans of a phantom with a normal tooth and the same phantom with the tooth replaced by a Z1 TBR dental implant system were used. The implant system was composed of a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown and titanium with a zirconium collar. Three radiotherapy plans were designed when the density of the implant material was corrected to match their elements, or when all were set to the density of water, or when using the default density conversion. Gafchromic EBT-3 films at the level of isocenter and crowns were used for measurements., Results: At the level of crowns, upstream and downstream dose calculations were reduced when metal kernels were applied (M-plan). Moreover, relatively measured dose distribution patterns were most similar to M-plan. At this level, relative to the non-implanted phantom, mean doses values were higher with the implant (215.93 vs. 192.25), also, new high-dose areas appeared around a low-dose streak forward to the implant (119% vs. 95%)., Conclusions: Implants can cause a high dose to the oral cavity in radiotherapy because of extra scattered radiation. Nanoparticles (NPs) functionalized with antibodies (Abs) on their surface are used in a wide range of bioapplications. Whereas the attachment of antibodies to single NPs to trigger the internalization in cells via receptor-mediated endocytosis has been widely studied, the conjugation of antibodies to larger NP assemblies has been much less explored. Taking into account that NP assemblies may be advantageous for some specific applications, the possibility of incorporating targeting ligands is quite important. Herein, we performed the effective conjugation of antibodies onto a fluorescent NP assembly, which consisted of fluorinated Quantum Dots (QD) self-assembled through fluorine-fluorine hydrophobic interactions. Cellular uptake studies by confocal microscopy and flow cytometry revealed that the NP assembly underwent the same uptake procedure as individual NPs; that is, the antibodies retained their targeting ability once attached to the nanoassembly, and the NP assembly preserved its intrinsic properties (i.e., fluorescence in the case of QD nanoassembly).

One of the most controversial issues among rheumatologists is the best approach to managing a rheumatic patient (RP) with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of COVID-19 in RPs compared to the general population and to relatively assess the potential role of RPs' treatment regimen against COVID-19. In a cross-sectional study, all RPs with an updated medical record between December 1, 2019, and February 29, 2020, at the rheumatology clinic of Shahid Beheshti Hospital, Qom, Iran were included (as the case group), and the prevalence of COVID-19 was compared to the paired control group-individuals without RDs, randomly selected from the Qom Health Network's database. Qom was the first city in Iran in which COVID-19 was identified and spread rapidly. Both groups were paired regarding sex, age, and underlying severe conditions. The prevalence of COVID-19 was lower in RPs than the control group (p = 0.028). Moreover, patients who were under treatment with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and biologic agents seemed to possess a lower risk for COVID-19. Two RPs died from COVID-19, both of whom had granulomatosis and polyangiitis (GPA). The prevalence of COVID-19 in the RPs was lower than the control group, which could be associated with more adherence to the quarantine and social distancing rules by RPs and stricter routine follow-ups than the general population. Besides, taking DMARDs, such as leflunomide, might possess a protective effect against severe COVID-19, probably as a result of preventing cytokine storm.

Background: Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) is an intervention that can significantly improve the quality of life of patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis. Early start of rehabilitation and its continuation at home once the patient is discharged are key factors for the success of the process.This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a home-based telerehabilitation solution (ReHub) on improving functional capacity and clinical outcomes for patients who underwent TKA., Methods/design: The study is a randomized, open-label with blinded outcome assessor, parallel assignment clinical trial with a sample size of 52 patients that is conducted according to the SPIRIT recommendations. After the TKA intervention, the patients are randomly allocated to the control group or the experimental group with a 1:1 ratio. Both groups follow a Fast Track recovery protocol which includes discharge after 2-3 days from surgery, a daily plan of 5 exercises for autonomous rehabilitation and domiciliary visits by a physiotherapist starting approximately 2 weeks after surgery. The experimental group uses the sensor-based telerehabilitation system ReHub to perform the exercises. The primary outcome measure is the range of motion of the knee. Secondary outcomes include physical performance, quality of life, pain intensity, muscle strength, treatment adherence and satisfaction with the ReHub system. The outcomes assessment is performed at hospital discharge (baseline), at stitch removal (2 weeks after baseline) and 2 weeks after stitch removal (4 weeks after baseline).The study conforms to the guidelines of the Declaration of Helsinki and was approved by the hospital's ethics committee., Discussion: The study will address an important gap in the evidence base by reporting the effectiveness of an affordable and low-cost home-based telerehabilitation solution in patients who underwent TKA., Ethics and Dissemination: The study was approved by the hospital's ethics committee ("Comité Ético de Investigación Clínica del HCB", reg. Metal-silicon nanowire array photoelectrodes provide a promising architecture for water-splitting because they can afford high catalyst loading and decouple charge separation from the light absorption process. To further improve and understand these hybrid nanowire photoelectrodes, control of the catalyst amount and location within the wire array is required. Such a level of control is currently synthetically challenging to achieve. Here, we report the synthesis of cm 2 -sized hybrid silicon nanowire arrays with electrocatalytically active Ni-Mo and Pt patches placed at defined vertical locations within the individual nanowires. Our method is based on a modified three-dimensional electrochemical axial lithography (3DEAL), which combines metal-assisted chemical etching (MACE) to produce Si nanowires with spatially defined SiO 2 protection layers to selectively cover and uncover specific areas within the nanowire arrays. This spatioselective SiO 2 passivation yields nanowire arrays with well-defined exposed Si surfaces, with feature sizes down to 100 nm in the axial direction. Subsequent electrodeposition directs the growth of the metal catalysts at the exposed silicon surfaces. As a proof of concept, we report photoelectrocatalytic activity of the deposited catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction on p-type Si nanowire photocathodes. This demonstrates the functionality of these hybrid metal/Si nanowire arrays patterned via 3DEAL, which paves the way for investigations of the influence of three-dimensional geometrical parameters on the conversion efficiency of nanostructured photoelectrodes interfaced with metal catalysts.

There was investigation of whether there were ovulations from co-dominant follicles following eCG administration. In all experiments, there was GnRH injection and CIDR insertion on day 0 (D0), CIDR withdrawal on D8, and cloprostenol administration on D8 (Exp. I and II) or D7 and D8 (Exp. III). Females in the control group were not administered any further treatment. Females in other group(s) were treated with eCG (500 IU) on Day 2 in Exp. I, Day 2 (eCG-2) or 8 (eCG-8) in Exp. II and Day 2 (eCG-2) or Days 2 and 6 (eCG-2-6) in Exp. III. Ovaries were examined using ultrasonography. In Experiments I and II, females had follicle emergence on Day 2. At the time of CIDR removal, more eCG-treated heifers (8/9; Exp. I) and cows (5/6; eCG-2; Exp. II) had co-dominant follicles compared to those in the control group (P < 0.05). Occurrence of ovulations from co-dominant for individual cows was minimal. In Experiment III, the time period from CIDR removal to estrus in cows treated with eCG-2 (68 ± 13 h) was longer compared to cows in the control (37±2 h) and eCG-2-6-treated group (38 ± 5 h; P < 0.05). There was a greater proportion of heifers having ovulations and thus greater progesterone concentration in the eCG-2-6 than eCG-2 group (P < 0.05). Administering eCG twice 4 days apart with the initial administration being two days after GnRH administration, at the time of follicle wave emergence, could induce growth of and ovulation from co-dominant follicles and enhance progesterone production in cattle., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier B.V.
