Background & Aims: There are several reports about anti-oxidant effects of garlic in the literature. In this study the effect of garlic alcoholic-water extract on the treatment of lead-induced toxicity in kidney of neonatal rat and the protective effect of garlic alcoholic water extract on body and kidney weight and also kidney tissue were investigated. Method: Neonatal rats were divided into 7 groups, (n=8). The first group (control) received no material, the second group (sham) received 0.1 ml normal salin, the third group received 0.6 g/l lead, the forth group received 0.4 g/kg garlic alcoholic – water extract in water and alcohol solution (each 50%) and the fifth, sixth and seventh groups first received 0.6 g/l lead and then respectively 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, g/kg garlic. All substances were administered through gavage and in 10 consecutive days. Twenty four hours after the last day of injection, body and kidney weights were measured and after mild anesthesia, kidney was removed and fixed in formalin for preparing tissue sections. Tissue alterations were investigated by light microscope. Results: Based on the obtained results, body and kidney weights in the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th groups showed significant Increase as compared with the control group. Body and kidney weight in the 4th group showed significant decrease as compared with lead group. Histological examination of kidney tissue showed that garlic administration decreased the rate of kidney tissue damage. Conclusion: Garlic, due to its antioxidant effect, can prevent lead-induced toxicity and tissue damage in the kidney.

Ginger – Cyclophosphamide – Spermatogenesis - Chemotherapy ,Cancer ,Medicine (General) ,R5-920 - Abstract
Introduction: Cyclophosphamide is used as an anti cancer medicine in chemotherapy. This is an alkalizing medicine and causes the binding of DNA strands, breaking of DNA and control of protein synthesis and RNA. The side effects of this medicine include lack of appetite, nausea, reduction in activity of sexual lymph nodes, causing amenorrhea, azoospermia and oligospermia. Ginger includes many compounds, some of which are shogaols, gingerols, pyrogallols and sesquiterpenes. Ginger has anti nauseating, anti cancer, anti oxidant effects and eliminates free radicals. This medicine is used along with cyclophosphamide to reduce its destructive side effects in the body. Methods: For 21 days, the rats were fed with ginger and cyclophosphamide. After 21 days, the animals were weighed and rendered unconscious. Their testes were removed and tissue samples were provided from their testes. Results: The results showed that cyclophosphamide alone reduces body weight, testes weight and spermatogenesis as compared to the control group. In other experimental groups that were fed with ginger and cyclophosphamide, increased dosage of ginger increased the body weight, the testes weight and spermatogenesis in comparison to the other experimental groups. Conclusion: It seems that compounds present in ginger are anti tumoral and control the production of active metabolites. Therefore, if administered together with Cyclophosphamide, it can be useful and effective in patients undergoing chemotherapy.

This study explores the compliance of Malaysian listed companies to the Statement of Risk Management and Internal Control (SRMIC). Risk management and internal control (RMIC) are vital for an effective corporate governance. Effective risk management system helps companies achieve targeted performance. Internal control system provides reasonable assurance that an adverse impact arising from future event is at an acceptable level. In 2015, SRMIC commissions the need to examine the compliance to its requirements. Annual reports of 746 companies listed on the Bursa Malaysia for 2015 and 2016 were examined. Findings show that only 2.5% companies disclose all the mandatory risk management items and only 0.01% of companies disclose all internal control information. Companies voluntarily disclose information on external auditors, internal audit function, internal control opinion, risk appetite, and soundness of the RMIC system. The findings evidence the companies’ engagements towards the demands for a more effective corporate governance.

- Abstract
The media play a key role in promoting public health and influencing debate regarding health issues; however, some topics seem to generate a stronger response in the public, and this may be related to how the media construct and deliver their messages. Mass media coverage of COVID-19 epidemic has been exceptional with more than 180,000 articles published each day in 70 languages from March 8 to April 8, 2020. One may well wonder if this massive media attention ever happened in the past and if it has been finally proven to be beneficial or even just appropriate. Surgical site and implant-related infections represent a substantial part of health care-associated infections; with an estimated overall incidence of 6% post-surgical infection, approximately 18 million new surgical site infections are expected each year globally, with 5 to 10% mortality rate and an astounding economic and social cost. In the current mediatic era, orthopaedic surgeons need to refocus some of their time and energies from surgery to communication and constructive research. Only raising mediatic awareness on surgical site and implant-related infections may tune up the volume of silent epidemics to a level that can become audible by governing institutions. © 2020, SICOT aisbl.

Water quality is an important parameter for the health and growth of aquatic species in aquaculture farming system. The threshold values of the water main parameters should be monitored continuously. Contaminated aquaculture water will affect the health, growth and ability of animals to survive. In addition, it will also affect the harvesting yields based on the number and size of the animals. To overcome this problem, the main water parameters, namely temperature, pH, Dissolved Oxygen and Electrical Conductivity are monitored in real-time using a multi-sensory system and the internet of things. Data is acquired by a developed instrument and transmitted wirelessly via a GPRS / GSM module to a web server database. The data obtained are analyzed and monitored through the website and in real-time. Therefore, corrective action could be taken immediately for contaminated water, indicated by water parameters out of range. The system also provides an early signal to farmers based on a specific range of water quality parameters values. This will help farmers make adjustments to ensure appropriate water quality for the aquaculture system.

This paper aims to improve the Topographical Factor for estimation soil loss and sediment yield in Equatorial region. In the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), Topographical factor (LS) is derived as soil loss amount related to gently-inclined plane surface of 72.6ft (22.13m) slope length and 9% slope gradient in United States of America (USA). The terrains in equatorial region (especially at construction sites) comprise of more cone-shaped and pyramid- shaped characterized with steeper slopes and shorter slope lengths as compared to agricultural lands in USA. Topographical Factors (TT, TC & TP) in equatorial region were found as function of sediment yield (SY), surface runoff velocity (RV), and silt and clay compositions (SC). Triangular prism-shaped slope could be used as reference or indicator due to the shape is comparable or almost similar to that of the RUSLE’s gently-inclined plane surface. Cone-shaped and pyramid-shaped showed approximately 80% and 77%, respectively similar to triangular prism-shaped. Therefore, the Topographical Factors for triangular prism-shaped, cone-shaped and pyramid-shaped landscapes in equatorial region: Error! Reference source not found. (Triangular Prism), Error! Reference source not found. (Cone) andError! Reference source not found. (Pyramid).

This paper reports on the design, implementation, and characterization of high-density trench-refilled capacitors in complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) grade silicon (1-10 Omegacm). High aspect ratio trench-refilled capacitors offer a capacitance density improvement of three orders of magnitude compared to thin-film capacitors with the same die area and dielectric thickness. Also, dielectric materials such as low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) silicon oxide and silicon nitride are utilized to enhance the breakdown voltage of these devices. The high aspect ratio polysilicon and single crystal silicon process was utilized to implement these capacitors, giving a gap aspect ratio of . This ultrahigh vertical capacitance area achieves an ultralarge capacitance density without requiring thin-or high-k dielectric material. High-value capacitors of values ranging from 40 nF to 4 muF with capacitance density of 58 (nF/mm 2) were implemented in silicon as arrays of 170 mum-deep trenches. LPCVD silicon dioxide and silicon nitride were employed as dielectric materials to provide robust deposition inside the high aspect ratio trenches. Trench-refilled capacitors show quality factors (Q) of 230 and 8, respectively, at 45 nF and 4 muF capacitances. The breakdown voltage in trench-refilled capacitors with 35 nm-thick Si3N4 is recorded to be as high as 17-V, which is ~4x to 10x larger than that of BaTiO3 and PbZrxTi1 - xO3 (PZT) thin-film capacitors with the same dielectric thickness. Furthermore, the capacitances were measured over a temperature range of 25 to 155degC, showing less than 1.8% variation in 45 nF devices. This implies that trench-refilled capacitors are free from the very strong temperature sensitivity exhibited by most high-k materials.

The interaction of a rectilinear vortex with an inflated round parachute canopy model was studied experimentally in a water tunnel where the vortex core was aligned with the axis of the canopy. Three different canopy diameters were used, and the canopy model was attached to a streamlined forebody. Dye flow visualization indicated that vortex breakdown was present when the core trajectory was within the canopy opening. Vortex breakdown occurred about one to two canopy diameters upstream of the canopy opening. The vortex core completely disintegrated when it interacted with the forebody near the canopy centerline. The vortex breakdown and disintegration caused unsteady, asymmetric deformations on the canopy surface. A reduction in the time-averaged drag and an increase in the fluctuating drag was observed when the vortex core was within the canopy opening. The disintegration of the vortex core near the canopy centerline lessened the drag reduction brought on by the presence of the core.

In this paper, thermoelastic damping (TED) in trench-refilled (TR) polysilicon microelectromechanical beam resonators is studied as a mechanism for limiting quality factor (Q) at low frequencies. An approximate model based on Zener's theory is developed and verified by numerical simulations in FEMLAB. According to the proposed model a double-dip characteristic is expected for the quality factor versus frequency curve of TR beam resonators. To verify the model experimentally, equal-width TR micro-resonators are fabricated in different length to cover a broad range of frequencies. Frequency response of these devices agrees well with our model. By using the theoretical and numerical models developed in this paper, an upper bound for the quality factor in TR beam resonators or any similar structure such as TR polysilicon gyros can be predicted.

A measurement of the cross section for production of single, isolated photons is reported for transverse energies in the range of 10–125 GeV for two regions of pseudorapidity, |η| -1 of integrated luminosity accumulated in pp collisions at √s=1.8TeV and recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The background, predominantly from jets which fragment to neutral mesons, is estimated using the longitudinal shower shape in the calorimeter. In both pseudorapidity regions the cross section is found to agree with the next-to-leading order QCD prediction for 30≲E T γ ≲80GeV.

We present results from a search for anomalous $\mathrm{WW}$ and $\mathrm{WZ}$ production in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1.8\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\mathrm{TeV}$. We used $p\overline{p}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\nu}\mathrm{jjX}$ events observed during the 1992--1993 run of the Fermilab Tevatron collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $13.7\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.7{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. A fit to the transverse momentum spectrum of the $W$ boson yields direct limits on the CP-conserving anomalous $\mathrm{WW}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and $\mathrm{WWZ}$ coupling parameters of $\ensuremath{-}0.9l\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\kappa}l1.1$ (with $\ensuremath{\lambda}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0$) and $\ensuremath{-}0.6l\ensuremath{\lambda}l0.7$ (with $\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\kappa}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0$) at the 95% confidence level, for a form factor scale $\ensuremath{\Lambda}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1.5\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\mathrm{TeV}$, assuming that the $\mathrm{WW}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and $\mathrm{WWZ}$ coupling parameters are equal.

We report on results of a cosmic ray test of a scintillating fiber tracker using Visible Light Photon Counter (VLPC) readout. Two different detector configurations have been constructed and operated, the first with a total of 3072 channels and the second with 1,785 channels. The 3072 channel system is a prototype for the DO detector tracking upgrade and represents a configuration that is similar to that in the final detector. The second, smaller test was specifically designed to study the position resolution capabilities of the fiber tracker. A description of the cosmic ray test including trigger, fiber configuration, undoped lightguides, VLPC cassettes and cryogenics, and calibration system is given. Final results from the 3072 channel test will be presented, including measurements of resolution, light yield per minimum ionizing particle, singlet and doublet efficiency, and long-term stability. Resolution results from the second, 1785 channel test will be compared to the predicted resolution from Monte Carlo studies.

The global topologies of inclusive three- and four-jet events produced in $\overline{p}p$ interactions are described. The three- and four-jet events are selected from data recorded by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider operating at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=1800$ GeV. The measured, normalized distributions of various topological variables are compared with parton-level predictions of tree-level QCD calculations. The parton-level QCD calculations are found to be in good agreement with the data. The studies also show that the topological distributions of the different subprocesses involving different numbers of quarks are very similar and reproduce the measured distributions well. The parton-shower Monte Carlo generators provide a less satisfactory description of the topologies of the three- and four-jet events.

We report on a search for right-handed W bosons (W R ) with mass greater than 200GeV/c 2 . We used data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp collider at √s=1.8TeV to search for W R decays into an electron and a massive right-handed neutrino W R ± >e ± N R . Using the inclusive electron data, we set mass limits independent of the N R decay: m W R >650GeV/c 2 and m W R >720GeV/c 2 at the 95% confidence level, valid for m N R W R and mN R «m W R , respectively. The latter also represents a new lower limit on the mass of a heavy left-handed W boson (W') decaying into ev. In addition, limits on mWR valid for larger values of the N R mass are obtained assuming that NR decays to an electron and two jets.

We have searched for associated production of the lightest chargino W 1 and next-to-lightest neutralino Z 2 of the minimal supersymmetric standard model in pp collisions at √s=1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 12.5±0.7pb -1 were examined for events containing three isolated leptons. No evidence for W 1 Z 2 pair production was found. Limits on s(W 1 Z 2 )B(W 1 →lνZ 1 )B(Z 2 →llZ 1 ) are presented.

We present a search for pair produced top squarks, the supersymmetric partners of the top quark, using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp collider. We consider a scenario in which the lighter of the two top squarks t 1 decays with 100% branching fraction to a charm quark and the lightest neutralino χ 1 0 yielding a signal of two acollinear jets with missing transverse energy. We observe 3 events while we expect 3.5±1.2 events from the known standard model processes. We exclude at the 95% confidence level a significant region of the m t 1 - m χ 1 0 parameter space. The highest m t 1 value we exclude is 93 GeV/c 2 with a corresponding m χ 1 0 value of 8 GeV/c 2 .

We have studied J ψ production in p p collisions at s = 1.8 TeV with the DO detector at Fermilab using μ+μ− data. We have measured the inclusive J ψ production cross section as a function of J ψ transverse momentum, pT. For the kinematic range pT > 8 GeV/c and |η| σ(p p → J ψ + X) · Br ( J ψ → μ + μ − ) = 2.08 ± 0.17( stat) ± 0.46(syst) nb. Using the muon impact parameter we have estimated the fraction of J ψ mesons coming from B meson decays to be fb = 0.35 ± 0.09(stat)±0.10(syst) and inferred the inclusive b production cross section. From the information on the event topology the fraction of nonisolated J ψ events has been measured to be fnonisol = 0.64 ± 0.08(stat)±0.06(syst). We have also obtained the fraction of J ψ events resulting from radiative decays of χc states, fχ = 0.32 ± 0.07(stat)±0.07(syst). We discuss the implications of our measurements for charmonium production processes.

A study of the particle multiplicity between jets with large rapidity separation has been performed using the D\O\ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ Collider operating at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$\,TeV. A significant excess of low-multiplicity events is observed above the expectation for color-exchange processes. The measured fractional excess is $1.07 \pm 0.10({\rm stat})~{ + 0.25}_{- 0.13}({\rm syst})\%$, which is consistent with a strongly-interacting color-singlet (colorless) exchange process and cannot be explained by electroweak exchange alone. A lower limit of $0.80\%$ (95\% C.L.) is obtained on the fraction of dijet events with color-singlet exchange, independent of the rapidity gap survival probability.

We report on a search for second generation scalar leptoquarks with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp collider at √s = 1.8 TeV. This search is based on 12.7 pb-1 of data. Second generation leptoquarks are assumed to be produced in pairs and to decay into a neutrino and quark with branching ratio β or into a neutrino and quark with branching ratio 1 - β. We obtain cross section times branching ratio limits as a function of leptoquark mass and set lower limits on the leptoquark mass at the 95% confidence level.

Characterization of a large number of visible light photon counters (VLPC) is an integral part of the scintillating fiber system test for the DO upgrade, currently underway at Fermilab. We report results from our investigation of 4200 channels of HISTE IV VLPC's, for use in a cosmic ray test. We have studied the dependence of critical device characteristics like quantum efficiency, gain, and noise as a function of operating temperature and VLPC bias voltage, and the variation of these characteristics over the large sample. We also discuss the general operation of the devices and the problems encountered during the characterization.

The performance of a large scale scintillating fiber tracker with VLPC readout has been studied in a cosmic-ray test. Approximately 9.6 photoelectrons per single layer per trigger were detected at a VLPC bias voltage of 6.5V. The doublet efficiency was nearly 100% at a 0.1% noise level and a position resolution of about 140{mu}m was measured. The authors also studied the relationship between VLPC performance and VLPC bias voltage by measuring single fiber efficiency as a function of VLPC bias in the range 6.2V to 7.0V at a fixed temperature of 6.5{degrees}K. They observed no significant variation in VLPC performance within this bias range.

The ratio of the number of {ital W}+1 jet to {ital W}+0 jet events is measured with the D0 detector using data from the 1992--93 Tevatron Collider run. For the {ital W}{r_arrow}{ital e}{nu} channel with a minimum jet {ital E}{sub {ital T}} cutoff of 25 GeV, the experimental ratio is 0.065{plus_minus}0.003(stat){plus_minus}0.007(syst). Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for various parton distributions agree well with each other and are all over 1 standard deviation below the measurement. Varying the strong coupling constant {alpha}{sub {ital s}} in both the parton distributions and the partonic cross sections simultaneously does not remove this discrepancy. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital The} {ital American} {ital Physical} {ital Society}.

The distribution of the transverse energy in jets has been measured in p p collisions at s =1.8 TeV TeV using the DO detector at Fermilab. This measurement of the jet shape is made as a function of jet transverse energy in both the central and forward rapidity regions. Jets are shown to narrow both with increasing transverse energy and with increasing rapidity. Next-to-leading order partonic QCD calculations are compared to the data. Although the calculations qualitatively describe the data, they are shown to be very dependent on renormalization scale, parton clustering algorithm, and jet direction definition and they fail to describe the data in all regions consistently.

A search for a heavy charged gauge boson, W′, using the decay channels W′ → eν and W′ → τν → eνν ν is reported. The data used in the analysis were collected by the DO experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron during the 1992-93 p p collider run from an integrated luminosity of 13.9 ± 0.8 pb−1 at s =1.8 TeV . Assuming that the neutrino from W′ decay is stable and has a mass significantly less than mW′, an upper limit at the 95% confidence level is set on the cross section times branching ratio for p p → W′ → eν . A W′ with the same couplings to quarks and leptons as the standard model W boson is excluded for mW′

The inclusive cross sections times leptonic branching ratios for $W$ and $Z$ boson production in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1.8$ TeV were measured using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider: ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{W}B(W\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\nu})\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}2.36\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.07\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.13\mathrm{nb}$, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{W}B\left(W\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\nu}\right)\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}2.09\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.23\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.11\mathrm{nb}$, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{Z}B\left(Z\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\right)\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0.218\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.011\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.012\mathrm{nb}$, and ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{Z}B\left(Z\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\right)\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}0.178\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.030\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.009\mathrm{nb}$. The first error is the combined statistical and systematic uncertainty, and the second reflects the uncertainty in the luminosity. For the combined electron and muon analyses we find ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{W}B(W\ensuremath{\rightarrow}l\ensuremath{\nu})/{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{Z}B(Z\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{l}^{+}{l}^{\ensuremath{-}})\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}10.90\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.49$. Assuming standard model couplings, this result is used to determine the width of the $W$ boson, $\ensuremath{\gamma}(W)\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}2.044\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.093\mathrm{GeV}$.

We performed a direct search for the anomalous {ital ZZ}{gamma} and {ital Z}{gamma}{gamma} couplings by studying {ital p{bar p}}{r_arrow}ll{gamma}+{ital X} (l={ital e},{mu}) events at {radical}{ital s}=1.8 TeV with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A fit to the transverse energy spectrum of the photon in the signal events, based on the data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 14.3pb{sup {minus}1} (13.7pb{sup {minus}1}) for the electron (muon) channel, yields the following 95% confidence level limits on the anomalous {ital CP}-conserving {ital ZZ}{gamma} couplings: {vert_bar}{ital h}{sub 30}{sup {ital Z}}{vert_bar}{lt}1.8 ({ital h}{sub 40}{sup {ital Z}}=0) and {vert_bar}{ital h}{sub 40}{sup {ital Z}}{vert_bar}{lt}0.5 ({ital h}{sub 30}{sup {ital Z}}=0), for a form-factor scale {Lambda}=500 GeV. Limits for the {ital Z}{gamma}{gamma} couplings and {ital CP}-violating couplings are also discussed.

The {ital WW}{gamma} gauge boson couplings were measured using {ital p{bar p}}{r_arrow}l{nu}{gamma}+{ital X} (l={ital e},{mu}) events at {radical}{ital s}=1.8 TeV observed with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The signal, obtained from the data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 13.8pb{sup {minus}1}, agrees well with the standard model prediction. A fit to the photon transverse energy spectrum yields limits at the 95% confidence level on the {ital CP}-conserving anomalous coupling parameters of {minus}1.6{lt}{Delta}{kappa}{lt}1.8 ({lambda}=0) and {minus}0.6{lt}{lambda}{lt}0.6 ({Delta}{kappa}=0). Similar limits are obtained for the {ital CP}-violating coupling parameters.

The results of a search for W boson pair production in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV with subsequent decay to dilepton (e{mu}, ee, and {mu}{mu}) channels are presented. One event is observed with an expected background of 0.56 {plus_minus} 0.13 events with an integrated luminosity of approximately 14 pb{sup {minus}1}. Assuming equal strengths for the WWZ and WW{gamma} gauge boson coupling parameters {kappa} and {lambda}, limits on the CP-conserving anomalous coupling constants are {minus}2.6 < {delta}{kappa} < 2.8 and {minus}2.1 {lambda} < 2.1 at the 95% confidence level.

We present a search for events consistent with the production and decay of the squarks and gluinos of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) in the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron {ital p{bar p}} collider. We examined data for events containing large missing transverse energy and three or more jets. We observed no excess of events above the expected yield from standard model processes. For a choice of MSSM parameter values, we set a lower limit at the 95% confidence level on the mass of the gluino of 144 GeV/{ital c}{sup 2} for all squark masses and a lower limit of 212 GeV/{ital c}{sup 2} for equal squark and gluino masses.

We report a measurement of the inclusive muon and {ital b}-quark production cross sections in {ital p{bar p}} collisions at {radical}{ital s}=1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The inclusive muon spectrum extends over the kinematic range {vert_bar}{ital y}{sup {mu}}{vert_bar}{lt}0.8 and 3.5{lt}{ital p}{sub {ital T}}{sup {mu}}{lt}60GeV/{ital c}, and is well described by the expected contributions from various known sources. The {ital b}-quark production cross section for {vert_bar}{ital y}{sup {ital b}}{vert_bar}{lt}1.0 and {ital p}{sup {ital b}}{sub {ital T}}{gt}6GeV/{ital c} is extracted, and agrees with next-to-leading order QCD predictions within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties.

We present new results on the search for the top quark in p anti-p collisions at S**(1/2) = 1.8 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 13.5 +- 1.6 pb**(-1). We have considered t anti-t production in the Standard Model using electron and muon dilepton decay channels (t anti-t -> e mu + jets, e e + jets, and mu mu + jets) and single-lepton decay channels (t anti-t -> e + jets and mu + jets) with and without tagging of b quark jets. From all channels, we have 9 events with an expected background of 3.8 +- 0.9. If we assume that the excess is due to t anti-t production, and assuming a top mass of 180 GeV/c**2, we obtain a cross section of 8.2 +- 5.1 pb.

The paper reports a CMOS Interface IC designed for electrostatic actuation and read-out a 6 MHz Silicon Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) gyroscope. The supporting electronics for a high quality factor (Q>100,000) BAW gyroscope include: an electro-mechanical drive oscillator loop to excite the gyroscope, a low noise transimpedance front-end that offers gain of 126 dBOmega and 3-dB bandwidth of 26 MHz; and a Coriolis signal demodulator with minimum capacitance resolution of 0.014 aF/radicHz. The interface ASIC, a first for a high frequency BAW gyroscope, is fabricated in a 0.6 mum 2P3M CMOS process, occupies 2.25 mm2 and consumes 10.9 mW. The gyroscope system achieves a noise floor of 0.37deg/radichr/radicHz and rate sensitivity of 205 muW 7 sec.

This paper reports on the design and implementation of a single-disk capacitive gyroscope capable of sensing rotation rates around x, y and z axes. A single crystal silicon disk is operated in its appropriate in-plane and out-of-plane modes in the MHz frequency range to sense the z-axis and xy-axis rotation rates, respectively. Utilizing a single disk for measuring rate around all three axes minimizes the form factor compared to approaches using three separate proof masses. Due to high frequency operation, both in-plane and out-of plane modes can achieve high quality factors (Q) in moderate vacuum (1-10Torr), facilitating the wafer-level encapsulation of the device. In addition, the device bandwidth, in the range of 20 to 50 Hz, is suitable for the relatively fast response time requirements of consumer electronics applications.

This paper introduces the design and implementation of center-supported bulk acoustic wave (BAW) disk resonators on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrates. The use of a SOI substrate enables implementation of single crystal silicon disk resonators and provides electrical isolation between the disk and the substrate. A center-supported 800mum in diameter single crystal silicon disk resonator operated in a high order in-plane degenerate mode at 5.9MHz demonstrates an ultra high quality factor (Q) of 243,000. Lateral BAW disk resonators have the potential to be employed in filters, frequency references and sensors (in particular vibratory gyroscopes)

This paper introduces the capacitive bulk acoustic wave (BAW) silicon disk gyroscope. The capacitive BAW disk gyroscopes operate in the frequency range of 2-8MHz, are stationary devices with vibration amplitudes less than 20nm, and achieve very high quality factors (Q) in low vacuum (and even in atmosphere), which simplifies their wafer-scale packaging. The device has lower operating voltages compared to low-frequency gyroscopes, which simplifies the interface circuit design and implementation in standard CMOS.

A large scale scintillating fiber tracker using visible light photon counter (VLPC) readout was built as a prototype for the upgraded DO central tracker. This prototype has been under test at Fermilab for six months using cosmic rays. A description of the components of the tracker including the photodetector, fibers, lightguides, ribbons, and DAQ is given. Preliminary results indicate a mean detected yield of about 10 photoelectrons per fiber, position resolution of 140 /spl mu/m for a fiber doublet, and a doublet efficiency greater than 99%. >

The results of a search for W boson pair production in pp collisions at √s=1.8TeV with subsequent decay to eμ, ee, and μμ channels are presented. Five candidate events are observed with an expected background of 3.1±0.4 events for an integrated luminosity of approximately 97pb -1 . Limits on the anomalous couplings are obtained from a maximum likelihood fit of the E T spectra of the leptons in the candidate events. Assuming identical WWγ and WWZ couplings, the 95% C.L. limits are -0.62

The gauge boson pair production processes Wg, WW, WZ, and Zg were studied using pbarp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of ~14 pb-1 at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. Analysis of Wg prod with subsequent W boson decay to lv (l=e,mu) is reported, including a fit to the pT spectrum of the photons which leads to limits on anomalous WWg couplings. A search for WW prod with subsequent decay to l-lbar-v-vbar (l=e,mu) is presented leading to an upper limit on the WW prod cross section and limits on anomalous WWg and WWZ couplings. A search for high pT W bosons in WW and WZ prod is described, where one W boson decays to an ev and the second W boson or the Z boson decays to two jets. A maximum likelihood fit to the pT spectrum of W bosons resulted in limits on anomalous WWg and WWZ couplings. A combined fit to the three data sets which provided the tightest limits on anomalous WWg and WWZ couplings is also described. Limits on anomalous ZZg and Zgg couplings are presented from an analysis of the photon ET spectrum in Zg events in the decay channels (ee, mu-mu, and v-vbar) of the Z boson., 77 Pages including 40 Figures. The interaction of pulsed vortex generator jets with a zero pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer has been studied from the perspective of vorticity dynamics. The improved performance of the pulsed vortex generator jets is attributed to the formation, stretching and bending of the starting vortex ring in these jet flows. The shear in the boundary layer amplifies the vorticity of the starting ring and re-directs it into the streamwise direction. The pitching and skewing of the jet is necessary to create the initial tilt of the starting vortex ring with respect to the mean flow. The source of the supplementary streamwise vorticity is the jet boundary layer fluid, which rolls up into the starting vortex in the initial phase of jet ejection. Flow visualization experiments confirmed that the extra benefits obtained from pulsing the vortex generator jets stems from the alteration of flow structure. The pulsed VGJs create vortex ring-like structures that are inclined with respect to the freestream.
