Abstract

A two-parameter model for chirping the frequency of a plane-wave laser pulse is introduced using a binomial expansion. Acceleration of single electrons, through interaction with the plane-wave binomially chirped laser pulse, is investigated by solving the relativistic equations of motion, analytically and numerically. Multi-GeV energy gains are reported from interaction with 10 $$^{20}$$ W/cm $$^2$$ peak-intensity chirped pulses.

Abstract

The classical treatment of the electrical double-layer (EDL) structure at a planar metal/electrolyte junction via the Gouy-Chapman-Stern (GCS) approach is based on the Poisson equation relating the electrostatic potential to the net mean charge density. The ions concentration in the diffuse layer are assumed to follow the Boltzmann distribution law, i.e. $\propto \exp(-\tilde{\psi})$ where $\tilde{\psi}$ is the dimensionless electrostatic potential. However, even in stationary equilibrium in which variables are averaged over a large number of elementary stochastic events, deviations from the mean-value are expected. In this study we evaluate the behavior of the EDL by assuming some small perturbations superposed on top of its Boltzmann distribution of ion concentrations using the Tsallis nonextensive statistics framework. With this we assume the ion concentrations to be proportional to $ [ 1- (1-q) \tilde{\psi}]^{{1}/{(1-q)}} = \exp_q({- \tilde{\psi}})$ with $q$ being a real parameter that characterizes the system's statistics. We derive analytical expression and provide computational results for the overall differential capacitance of the EDL structure, which, depending on the values of the parameter $q$ can show both the traditional inverse bell-shaped curves for aqueous solutions and bell curves observed with ionic liquids., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

We derive modified classes of Chaplygin gas by using the formalism of Geometrothermodynamics. In particular, our strategy gives us extended versions of Chaplygin gas, providing a novel thermodynamic explanation. Thus, we show that our models correspond to systems with internal thermodynamic interaction. Bearing this in mind, we find new free parameters which are derived from thermodynamics and we give them an interpretation. To this end, we predict the range of values that every term can take in the context of homogeneous and isotropic universe. We also show that our new versions of modified Chaplygin gas can be interpreted as unified dark energy models, independently from the introduction of our new additional terms. Finally, we compare our theoretical scenarios through a fit on a grid based on the Union 2.1 compilation and we evaluate the growth factor of small perturbations. In this respect, we show that our model better adapts to the theoretical $$\varLambda $$ CDM value, namely $$\gamma _{\varLambda CDM}=\frac{6}{11}$$ , than previous versions of modified Cgaplygin gas. We show numerical constraints at late and early redshift domains, which turn out to be compatible with previous results on standard versions of Chaplygin gas models.

Abstract

In this work, we propose an economical model to address some open cosmological problems such as the absence of the initial cosmological singularity, an early acceleration of the Universe and the generation of matter-antimatter asymmetry. The model is based on a scenario in which the early Universe consists of a non-linear electrodynamics fields. It is found that the non-linear electrodynamics model has an equation of state $p=\frac{1}{3} \rho - \frac{4}{3} \beta \rho^{1+\alpha}$ which shows that the Universe undergoes an early epoch acceleration to a radiation era given by $p =\frac{1}{3} \rho$. We show that the singularities in the energy density, pressure and curvature are absent at early stages. In our scenario, the baryon asymmetry is generated by the non-linearity parameter $\beta$. Abstract

We introduce the $$h$$ -analogue of Fibonacci numbers for non-commutative $$h$$ -plane. For $$h h'= 1$$ and $$h = 0$$ , these are just the usual Fibonacci numbers as it should be. We show that the Laplace integral transforms for both the Fibonacci and Chebyshev polynomials are the $$h$$ -Fibonacci numbers. We also derive a collection of identities for these numbers.

Abstract

Background: In the absence of accurate data on the free two-body hyperon-nucleon interaction, the spectra of hypernuclei provides information on the details of the effective hyperon-nucleon interaction.Purpose: To obtain a high-resolution binding-energy spectrum for the ${}^{9}\mathrm{Be}(e,{e}^{\ensuremath{'}}{K}^{+})_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{9}\mathrm{Li}$ reaction.Method: Electroproduction of the hypernucleus $_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{9}\mathrm{Li}$ has been studied for the first time with sub-MeV energy resolution in Hall A at Jefferson Lab on a $^{9}\mathrm{Be}$ target. In order to increase the counting rate and to provide unambiguous kaon identification, two superconducting septum magnets and a ring imaging Cherenkov detector were added to the Hall A standard equipment.Results: The cross section to low-lying states of $_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{9}\mathrm{Li}$ is concentrated within 3 MeV of the ground state and can be fit with four peaks. The positions of the doublets agree with theory while a disagreement could exist with respect to the relative strengths of the peaks in the doublets. The $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ separation energy, ${B}_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$, of $8.36\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08$ (stat.) $\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08$ (syst.) MeV was measured, in agreement with an earlier experiment.

Abstract

We report the most precise measurement to date of a parity-violating asymmetry in elastic electron–proton scattering. The measurement was carried out with a beam energy of 3.03 GeV and a scattering angle 〈 θ lab 〉 = 6.0 ○ , with the result A PV = ( − 1.14 ± 0.24 ( stat ) ± 0.06 ( syst ) ) × 10 −6 . From this we extract, at Q 2 = 0.099 GeV 2 , the strange form factor combination G E s + 0.080 G M s = 0.030 ± 0.025 ( stat ) ± 0.006 ( syst ) ± 0.012 ( FF ) where the first two errors are experimental and the last error is due to the uncertainty in the neutron electromagnetic form factor. This result significantly improves current knowledge of G E s and G M s at Q 2 ∼ 0.1 GeV 2 . A consistent picture emerges when several measurements at about the same Q 2 value are combined: G E s is consistent with zero while positive values are favored for G M s , though G E s = G M s = 0 is compatible with the data at 95% C.L.

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the viscous modified Chaplygin gas cosmological model. Solutions for different values of the viscosity parameter are obtained using both analytical and numerical methods. We have calculated the deceleration and defined {\em newly} statefinder $\{r, s \}$ pair in D dimensions. It is shown that when $D=4$, the usual statefinder parameters are recovered. Furthermore, we apply the statefinder diagnostic to the MCG model with and without viscosity in $D$ dimensions and explore these parameters graphically., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

Motivated by recent measurements which strongly support a nonzero reactor mixing angle $\theta_{13}$, we study a deviation from $S_3$ neutrino discrete symmetry by explicitly breaking the neutrino mass matrix with a general retrocirculant matrix. We show that nonzero $\theta_{13}$ and nonzero CP violation parameter $J_{CP}$ arise due to the difference between $y_2$ and $y_3$. We demonstrate that it is possible to obtain the experimentally favored results for neutrino masses and mixing angles from this mass matrix. Furthermore, we estimate the effective masses $m_{\beta}$ and $m_{\beta \beta}$ and total neutrino mass $\sum |m_i|$ predicted by this mass matrix., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, typos corrected

Abstract

The five-fold differential cross section for the 12C(e,e'p)11B reaction was determined over a missing momentum range of 200-400 MeV/c, in a kinematics regime with Bjorken x > 1 and Q2 = 2.0 (GeV/c)2. A comparison of the results and theoretical models and previous lower missing momentum data is shown. The theoretical calculations agree well with the data up to a missing momentum value of 325 MeV/c and then diverge for larger missing momenta. The extracted distorted momentum distribution is shown to be consistent with previous data and extends the range of available data up to 400 MeV/c., 12 pages, 1 table and 3 figures for submission to Journal Physics G

Abstract

We have measured the beam-normal single-spin asymmetry $A_n$ in the elastic scattering of 1-3 GeV transversely polarized electrons from $^1$H and for the first time from $^4$He, $^{12}$C, and $^{208}$Pb. For $^1$H, $^4$He and $^{12}$C, the measurements are in agreement with calculations that relate $A_n$ to the imaginary part of the two-photon exchange amplitude including inelastic intermediate states. Surprisingly, the $^{208}$Pb result is significantly smaller than the corresponding prediction using the same formalism. These results suggest that a systematic set of new $A_n$ measurements might emerge as a new and sensitive probe of the structure of heavy nuclei., 5 pages, 3 figures, accepted by PRL. v3: fixed one author name and affiliation, otherwise no change

Abstract

An experimental study of the 16O(e,e'K^+)16N_Lambda reaction has been performed at Jefferson Lab. A thin film of falling water was used as a target. This permitted a simultaneous measurement of the p(e,e'K^+)Lambda,Sigma_0 exclusive reactions and a precise calibration of the energy scale. A ground-state binding energy of 13.76 +/- 0.16 MeV was obtained for 16N_Lambda with better precision than previous measurements on the mirror hypernucleus 16O_Lambda. Precise energies have been determined for peaks arising from a Lambda in s and p orbits coupled to the p_{1/2} and p_{3/2} hole states of the 15N core nucleus.

Abstract

Abstract

The protons and neutrons in a nucleus can form strongly correlated nucleon pairs. Scattering experiments, where a proton is knocked-out of the nucleus with high momentum transfer and high missing momentum, show that in 12C the neutron-proton pairs are nearly twenty times as prevalent as proton-proton pairs and, by inference, neutron-neutron pairs. This difference between the types of pairs is due to the nature of the strong force and has implications for understanding cold dense nuclear systems such as neutron stars., 12 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

In this work we present a simultaneous measurement of the 12C(e,e'p) and 12C(e,e'pp) reactions. This measurement was done as part of the E01-015 experiment at Hall A of Jefferson Lab, at Q2 = 2 (GeV/c) 2 , xB = 1.2, for an (e,e'p) missing-momentum range from 300 to 600 MeV/c. At these kinematics conditions, with a missing-momentum greater than the Fermi momentum of nucleons in a nucleus and far from the D excitation, nucleon-nucleon Short-Range Correlations (SRCs) are predicted to dominate the reaction. For 9.5 ± 2% of the 12C(e,e2p) events, a recoiling partner proton was observed in the opposite direction to the 12C(e,e2p) missing momentum vector with roughly equal momentum. This observation is an experimental signature for proton-proton short-range correlations (pp-SRC) in nuclei. Even though the probability of pp-SRCs in nuclei is small, they are important since they can teach us about the strong interaction at short distances. Moreover, as a manifestation of asymmetric

Abstract

An experiment measuring electroproduction of hypernuclei has been performed in Hall A at Jefferson Lab on a $^{12}$C target. In order to increase counting rates and provide unambiguous kaon identification two superconducting septum magnets and a Ring Imaging CHerenkov detector (RICH) were added to the Hall A standard equipment. An unprecedented energy resolution of less than 700 keV FWHM has been achieved. Thus, the observed \lam{12}{B} spectrum shows for the first time identifiable strength in the core-excited region between the ground-state {\it s}-wave $\Lambda$ peak and the 11 MeV {\it p}-wave $\Lambda$ peak.

Abstract

We report new measurements of the parity-violating asymmetry A_PV in elastic scattering of 3 GeV electrons off hydrogen and 4He targets with ~6.0 degrees. The 4He result is A_PV = (+6.40 +/- 0.23 (stat) +/- 0.12 (syst)) x10^-6. The hydrogen result is A_PV = (-1.58 +/- 0.12 (stat) +/- 0.04 (syst)) x10^-6. These results significantly improve constraints on the electric and magnetic strange form factors G_E^s and G_M^s. We extract G_E^s = 0.002 +/- 0.014 +/- 0.007 at = 0.077 GeV^2, and G_E^s + 0.09 G_M^s = 0.007 +/- 0.011 +/- 0.006 at = 0.109 GeV^2, providing new limits on the role of strange quarks in the nucleon charge and magnetization distributions.

Abstract

We present the first measurements of the \vec{e}p->epg cross section in the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) regime and the valence quark region. The Q^2 dependence (from 1.5 to 2.3 GeV^2) of the helicity-dependent cross section indicates the twist-2 dominance of DVCS, proving that generalized parton distributions (GPDs) are accessible to experiment at moderate Q^2. The helicity-independent cross section is also measured at Q^2=2.3 GeV^2. Abstract

We report new measurements of the parity-violating asymmetry A(PV) in elastic scattering of 3 GeV electrons off hydrogen and 4He targets withtheta(lab)approximately 6.0 degrees . The 4He result is A(PV)=(+6.40+/-0.23(stat)+/-0.12(syst))x10(-6). The hydrogen result is A(PV)=(-1.58+/-0.12(stat)+/-0.04(syst))x10(-6). These results significantly improve constraints on the electric and magnetic strange form factors G(E)(s) and G(M)(s). We extract G(E)(s)=0.002+/-0.014+/-0.007 atQ(2)=0.077 GeV2, and G(E)(s)+0.09G(M)(s)=0.007+/-0.011+/-0.006 atQ(2)=0.109 GeV2, providing new limits on the role of strange quarks in the nucleon charge and magnetization distributions.

Abstract

An analysis of the leptonic texture for the new triangular mass matrices has been carried out. In particular, it is shown that both bimaximal and nearly bimaximal solutions for solar and atmospheric neutrino anomalies can be generated within this pattern. We have also derived exact and compact parametrization of the leptonic mixing matrix in terms of the lepton masses and the parameters $\alpha, \beta'$ and $\delta$. A consistency with the CHOOZ reactor result for $V_m{_{13}}$ and a smallness of the Jarlskog's invariant parameter are obtained., Comment: 16 pages, latex

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the fundamental solution of the time-space bi-fractional diffusion equation incorporating an additional kinetic source term in semi-infinite space. The equation is a generalization of the integer-order model ∂ t ρ ( x , t ) = ∂ x 2 ρ ( x , t ) - ρ ( x , t ) (also known as the Debye-Falkenhagen equation) by replacing the first-order time derivative with the Caputo fractional derivative of order 0 < α < 1 , and the second-order space derivative with the Riesz-Feller fractional derivative of order 0 < β < 2 . Using the Laplace-Fourier transforms method, it is shown that the parametric solutions are expressed in terms of the Fox's H-function that we evaluate for different values of α and β ., (© 2024. Abstract

An experimental study of the (16)O(e,e'K(+))(Lambda)(16)N reaction has been performed at Jefferson Lab. A thin film of falling water was used as a target. This permitted a simultaneous measurement of the p(e,e'K(+))Lambda, Sigma(0) exclusive reactions and a precise calibration of the energy scale. A ground-state binding energy of 13.76+/-0.16 MeV was obtained for (Lambda)(16)N with better precision than previous measurements on the mirror hypernucleus (Lambda)(16)O. Precise energies have been determined for peaks arising from a Lambda in s and p orbits coupled to the p(1/2) and p(3/2) hole states of the (15)N core nucleus.

Abstract

The protons and neutrons in a nucleus can form strongly correlated nucleon pairs. Scattering experiments, in which a proton is knocked out of the nucleus with high-momentum transfer and high missing momentum, show that in carbon-12 the neutron-proton pairs are nearly 20 times as prevalent as proton-proton pairs and, by inference, neutron-neutron pairs. This difference between the types of pairs is due to the nature of the strong force and has implications for understanding cold dense nuclear systems such as neutron stars.

Abstract

The present experiment exploits the interference between the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) and the Bethe-Heitler processes to extract the imaginary part of DVCS amplitudes on the neutron and on the deuteron from the helicity-dependent D(e,e'gamma)X cross section measured at Q2=1.9 GeV2 and xB=0.36. We extract a linear combination of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) particularly sensitive to E&#95;{q}, the least constrained GPD. A model dependent constraint on the contribution of the up and down quarks to the nucleon spin is deduced.

Abstract

We investigated simultaneously the 12C(e,e'p) and 12C(e,e'pp) reactions at Q2=2 (GeV/c)2, xB=1.2, and in an (e, e'p) missing-momentum range from 300 to 600 MeV/c. At these kinematics, with a missing momentum greater than the Fermi momentum of nucleons in a nucleus and far from the delta excitation, short-range nucleon-nucleon correlations are predicted to dominate the reaction. For (9.5+/-2)% of the 12C(e,e'p) events, a recoiling partner proton was observed back-to-back to the 12C(e,e'p) missing-momentum vector, an experimental signature of correlations.

Abstract

An experiment measuring electroproduction of hypernuclei has been performed in hall A at Jefferson Lab on a 12C target. In order to increase counting rates and provide unambiguous kaon identification two superconducting septum magnets and a ring imaging Cherenkov detector were added to the hall A standard equipment. An unprecedented energy resolution of less than 700 keV FWHM has been achieved. Thus, the observed (Lambda)(12)B spectrum shows for the first time identifiable strength in the core-excited region between the ground-state s-wave Lambda peak and the 11 MeV p-wave Lambda peak.

Abstract

We have measured the parity-violating electroweak asymmetry in the elastic scattering of polarized electrons from 4He at an average scattering angle = 5.7 degrees and a four-momentum transfer Q2 = 0.091 GeV2 . From these data, for the first time, the strange electric form factor of the nucleon G(E)s can be isolated. The measured asymmetry of A(PV) = (6.72 +/- 0.84(stat) +/- 0.21(syst) x 10(-6) yields a value of G(E)s = -0.038 +/- 0.042(stat) +/- 0.010(syst), consistent with zero.
