This paper addresses Yukawa theory, focusing on the scattering between two identical fermions mediated by an intermediate scalar boson, considering the effects of thermal contributions and Lorentz symmetry breaking. Temperature is introduced into the theory through the TFD formalism, while Lorentz violation arises from a background tensor coupled to the kinetic part of the Klein-Gordon Lagrangian. Two important quantities are calculated: the cross-section for the scattering process and the modified Yukawa potential. The main results obtained in this work demonstrate that considering Lorentz symmetry breaking has several implications for changes in symmetries and physical states, while the presence of temperature is strongly related to the strength of the interaction. The scalar sector of the Myers and Pospelov model is considered. This theory introduces a dimension 5 operator with a preferred four-vector which breaks Lorentz symmetry. We investigate various applications using the TFD formalism, a topological field theory that allows the study of thermal and size effects on an equal footing. Context. Jupiter-family comets (JFCs), which originate from the Kuiper belt and scattered disk, exhibit low-inclination and chaotic trajectories due to close encounters with Jupiter. Despite their typically short incursions into the inner solar system, a notable number of them are on Earth-crossing orbits, with fireball networks detecting many objects on ``JFC-like'' (2 < TJ < 3) orbits. Aims. This investigation aims to examine the orbital dynamics of JFCs and comet-like fireballs over 10,000 yr timescales, focusing on the trajectories and stability of these objects in the context of gravitational interactions within the solar system. Methods. We employed an extensive fireball dataset from the Desert Fireball Network (DFN), European Fireball Network (EFN), Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON), and Meteorite Observation and Recovery Project (MORP), alongside telescopically observed cometary ephemeris from the NASA HORIZONS database. The study integrates 646 fireball orbits with 661 JFC orbits for a comparative analysis of their orbital stability and evolution. Results. The analysis confirms frequent Jupiter encounters among most JFCs, inducing chaotic orbital behavior with limited predictability and short Lyapunov lifetimes (about 120 years), underscoring Jupiter`s significant dynamical influence. In contrast, ``JFC-like'' meteoroids detected by fireball networks largely exhibit dynamics divergent from genuine JFCs, with 79-92% on ``JFC-like'' orbits shown not to be prone to frequent Jupiter encounters; in particular, only 1-5% of all fireballs detected by the four networks exhibit dynamics similar to that of actual JFCs. In addition, 22% (16 of 72) of near-Earth JFCs are on highly stable orbits, suggesting a potential main belt origin for some of the bodies., Comment: Published in Astronomy & Astrophysics (31 pages, 21 figures)

Ternary Li halides, such as Li$_3$MeX$_6$ with, e.g., Me = In, Sc, Y and X = Cl, Br, are in the center of attention for battery applications as these materials might serve as ionic electrolytes. To fulfill their function, such electrolytes must have an extraordinarily high ionic Li$^+$ conductivity. Layer-structured Li$_3$InCl$_6$ represents such a candidate; understanding the origin of the rapid Li$^+$ exchange processes needs, however, further investigation. Spatially restricted, that is, low-dimensional particle diffusion might offer an explanation for fast ion dynamics. It is, however, challenging to provide evidence for 2D diffusion at the atomic scale when dealing with polycrystalline powder samples. Here, we used purely diffusion-induced $^7$Li nuclear magnetic spin relaxation to detect anomalies that unambiguously show that 2D Li diffusion is chiefly responsible for the dynamic processes in a Li$_3$InCl$_6$ powder sample. The change of the spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ as a function of inverse temperature $1/T$ passes through a rate peak that is strictly following asymmetric behavior. This feature is in excellent agreement with the model of P. M. Richards suggesting a logarithmic spectral density function $J$ to fully describe 2D diffusion. Hence, Li$_3$InCl$_6$ belongs to the very rare examples for which 2D Li$^+$ diffusion has been immaculately verified. We believe that such information help understand the dynamic features of ternary Li halides.

This paper presents an effective method of identifying elephant rumbles in infrasonic seismic signals. The design and implementation of electronic circuitry to amplify, filter, and digitize the seismic signals captured through geophones are presented. A collection of seismic infrasonic elephant rumbles was collected at a free-ranging area of an elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka. The seismic rumbles were converted to spectrograms, and several methods were used for spectral feature extraction. Using LasyPredict, the features extracted using different methods were fed into their corresponding machine-learning algorithms to train them for automatic seismic rumble identification. It was found that the Mel frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) together with the Ridge classifier machine learning algorithm produced the best performance in identifying seismic elephant rumbles. In this paper, the aether field, which leads to the violation of Lorentz symmetries, coupled with the electromagnetic field is considered. In order to study thermal and size effects in this theory, the Thermo Field Dynamics (TFD) formalism is used. TFD is a real-time quantum field theory that has an interesting topological structure. Here three different topologies are taken, then three different phenomena are calculated. These effects are investigated considering that the aether field can point in different directions. This paper brings an in detail Genetic Algorithm (GA) based combinatorial optimization method used for the optimal design of the water distribution network (WDN) of Gurudeniya Service Zone, Sri Lanka. Genetic Algorithm (GA) mimics the survival of the fittest principle of nature to develop a search process. Methodology employs fuzzy combinations of pipe diameters to check their suitability to be considered as the cost effective optimal design solutions. Furthermore, the hydraulic constraints were implicitly evaluated within the GA itself in its aim to reaching the global optimum solution. Upon analysis, the results of this approach delivered agreeable design outputs. In addition, the comparison made between the results obtained by a previous study inspired by the Honey Bee Mating Optimization (HBMO) Algorithm and results obtained by the GA based approach, proves competency of GA for the optimal design of water distribution network in Gurudeniya Service Zone, Sri Lanka., Comment: Submitted to the journal ENGINEER - IESL Sri Lanka. GRB 221009A is the brightest Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) detected in more than 50 years of study. In this paper, we present observations in the X-ray and optical domains after the GRB obtained by the GRANDMA Collaboration (which includes observations from more than 30 professional and amateur telescopes) and the Insight-HXMT Collaboration. We study the optical afterglow with empirical fitting from GRANDMA+HXMT data, augmented with data from the literature up to 60 days. We then model numerically, using a Bayesian approach, the GRANDMA and HXMT-LE afterglow observations, that we augment with Swift-XRT and additional optical/NIR observations reported in the literature. We find that the GRB afterglow, extinguished by a large dust column, is most likely behind a combination of a large Milky-Way dust column combined with moderate low-metallicity dust in the host galaxy. Using the GRANDMA+HXMT-LE+XRT dataset, we find that the simplest model, where the observed afterglow is produced by synchrotron radiation at the forward external shock during the deceleration of a top-hat relativistic jet by a uniform medium, fits the multi-wavelength observations only moderately well, with a tension between the observed temporal and spectral evolution. This tension is confirmed when using the extended dataset. We find that the consideration of a jet structure (Gaussian or power-law), the inclusion of synchrotron self-Compton emission, or the presence of an underlying supernova do not improve the predictions, showing that the modelling of GRB22109A will require going beyond the most standard GRB afterglow model. Placed in the global context of GRB optical afterglows, we find the afterglow of GRB 221009A is luminous but not extraordinarily so, highlighting that some aspects of this GRB do not deviate from the global known sample despite its extreme energetics and the peculiar afterglow evolution., Comment: Accepted to ApJL for the special issue, 37 pages, 23 pages main text, 6 tables, 13 figures

The main objective of this paper is to study the effect of a cold, vertical, arc-shaped control plate on the flow characteristics and forced convective heat transfer mechanism across a rotary oscillating, isothermally heated circular cylinder. Two-dimensional, unsteady, incompressible, laminar, and viscous flow of a Newtonian, constant property fluid is considered across the cylinder. The simulations are performed with an in-house code for various gap ratios between the control plate and the cylinder ($0\leq d/R_0 \leq 3$), maximum angular velocity ($0.5\leq \alpha_m \leq 4$) and frequency ratio of oscillation ($f/f_0=0.5,\ 3$) at Prandtl number $0.7$ and Reynolds number $150$. Here, $d$ denotes the gap between the surface of the cylinder and the leading surface of the control plate, $R_0$ denotes the radius of the cylinder, $f$ is the frequency of oscillation and $f_0$ is the frequency of natural vortex shedding. $d/R_0=0$ corresponds to the no plate case. Heat transfer and vortex shedding phenomena are discussed in relation to one another. A significant increase in heat transmission is observed for all $\alpha_m$ with the gap ratio of $d/R_0=0.5$ and $f/f_0=0.5$. The heat absorption on the surface of the control plate decreases to zero with increasing gap ratio when $\alpha_m=0.5$ and $f/f_0=0.5$ but never becomes zero when $\alpha_m=4$ and $f/f_0=3$. Additionally, when compared to the no plate case with $(\alpha_m,\ f/f_0)=(0.5,\ 0.5)$, the maximum peak of the drag coefficient is decreased by $9.877\%$ for the gap ratio of $d/R_0=3$. For $\alpha_m=4$ and $f/f_0=3$, the smallest gap ratio of $d/R_0=0.5$ is found to significantly increase the lift coefficient relative to other cases.

The unconventional superconductor Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ has long served as a benchmark for theories of correlated-electron materials. The determination of the superconducting pairing mechanism requires detailed experimental information on collective bosonic excitations as potential mediators of Cooper pairing. We have used Ru $L_3$-edge resonant inelastic x-ray scattering to obtain comprehensive maps of the electronic excitations of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ over the entire Brillouin zone. We observe multiple branches of dispersive spin and orbital excitations associated with distinctly different energy scales. The spin and orbital dynamical response functions calculated within the dynamical mean-field theory are in excellent agreement with the experimental data. Our results highlight the Hund metal nature of Sr$_{2}$RuO$_{4}$ and provide key information for the understanding of its unconventional superconductivity.

There exist many criteria for the optimal design of water distribution networks. One of the most common criteria is to design the optimal cost water distribution network while satisfying the hydraulic design constraints. This study was carried out to propose a novel computational method named Spanning-Tree Matrix Approach that can model large-scale tree-shaped water distribution networks. A case study was tested to demonstrate the use of the Spanning-Tree Matrix Approach model coupled with the Honey-Bee Mating Optimization algorithm to find the combination of pipe diameters that minimizes the cost of the network. The results show that the Spanning-Tree Matrix Approach is successful in modeling a tree-shaped water distribution network of any size. Moreover, proposed Spanning-Tree Matrix Approach has the flexibility to be adapted to any desirable governing equation or design criteria being imposed, and the element of simplicity to output desired constraint evaluations into a modern stochastic optimization algorithm (i.e., Genetic Algorithm, Simulated Annealing, Ant-Colony Optimization, Honey-Bee Mating Optimization, etc.) for the network optimization purpose.

The Thermofield Dynamics (TFD) formalism is considered. In this context, a Lorentz-breaking scalar field theory is introduced. In contrast to the Matsubara formalism, the best-known approach to introducing the temperature effect, TFD is a real-time formalism and is a topological field theory. While in Matsubara the temperature effects are introduced as a consequence of a compactification of the field in a finite interval on the time axis, in the TFD this effect emerges through a condensed state related to the Bogoliubov transformation. An advantage of the TFD formalism is that different topologies, which lead to different effects, can be chosen. Here, three different topologies are considered. Then the Stefan-Boltzmann law and Casimir effect at zero and non-zero temperature are calculated. On 5th December 2020 at 17:28 UTC, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Hayabusa-2 sample return capsule came back to the Earth. It re-entered the atmosphere over South Australia, visible for 53 seconds as a fireball from near the Northern Territory border toward Woomera where it landed in the the Woomera military test range. A scientific observation campaign was planned to observe the optical, seismo-acoustic, radio and high energy particle phenomena associated with the entry of an interplanetary object. A multi-institutional collaboration between Australian and Japanese universities resulted in the deployment of 49 instruments, with a further 13 permanent observation sites. The campaign successfully recorded optical, seismo-acoustic and spectral data for this event which will allow an in depth analysis of the effects produced by interplanetary objects impacting the Earth's atmosphere. Context. The populations of small bodies of the Solar System (asteroids, comets, Kuiper Belt objects) are used to constrain the origin and evolution of the Solar System. Both their orbital distribution and composition distribution are required to track the dynamical pathway from their regions of formation to their current locations. Aims. We aim at increasing the sample of Solar System objects (SSOs) that have multi-filter photometry and compositional taxonomy. Methods. We search for moving objects in the SkyMapper Southern Survey. We use the predicted SSO positions to extract photometry and astrometry from the SkyMapper frames. We then apply a suite of filters to clean the catalog for false-positive detections. We finally use the near-simultaneous photometry to assign a taxonomic class to objects. Results. We release a catalog of 880,528 individual observations, consisting of 205,515 known and unique SSOs. The catalog completeness is estimated to be about 97% down to V=18 mag and the purity to be above 95% for known SSOs. The near-simultaneous photometry provides either three, two, or a single color that we use to classify 117,356 SSOs with a scheme consistent with the widely used Bus-DeMeo taxonomy. Conclusions. The present catalog contributes significantly to the sample of asteroids with known surface properties (about 40% of main-belt asteroids down to an absolute magnitude of 16). Water distribution network (WDN) is a highly complex urban infrastructure that is intended to supply water from source node to consumer nodes. As far as the components of an infrastructure are concerned, the interconnecting pipes that transport water from source node to the demand nodes account for the major fraction of the capital cost. Therefore, when designing WDN, the primary concern is on finding the optimal combination of pipe diameters that satisfies the hydraulic-head requirements at minimum cost. More recent methodologies employ direct heuristic and stochastic heuristic algorithms for the design of WDN. In this study, the use of Honey-Bee Mating Optimization (HBMO) stochastic algorithm for the design of WDN in the Gurudeniya Service Zone, Gurudeniya, Sri Lanka, has been examined. In-built hydraulic constraints have enabled the algorithm to deliver results without needing a separate hydraulic simulation software in this design. The solutions given by HBMO algorithm and the solution implemented by National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Sri Lanka have been compared. Fireball networks are used to recover meteorites, with the context of orbits. Observations from these networks cover the bright flight, where the meteoroid is luminescent, but to recover a fallen meteorite, these observations must often be predicted forward in time to the ground to estimate an impact position. This darkflight modelling is deceptively simple, but there is hidden complexity covering the precise interactions between the meteorite and the (usually active) atmosphere. We describe the method and approach used by the Desert Fireball Network, detailing the issues we have addressed, and the impact that factors such as shape, mass and density have on the predicted fall position. We illustrate this with a case study of Murrili meteorite fall that occurred into Lake Eyre-Kati Thanda in 2015. The fall was very well observed from multiple viewpoints, and the trajectory was steep, with a low altitude endpoint, such that the darkflight was relatively short. Murrili is 1.68 kg with a typical ordinary chondrite density, but with a somewhat flattened shape compared to a sphere, such that there are discrepancies between sphere-based predictions and the actual recovery location. It is notable that even in this relatively idealised darkflight scenario, modelling using spherical shaped projectiles resulted in a significant distance between predicted fall position and recovered meteorite., Comment: 31 pages, 10 figures

Fireballs are infrequently recorded by seismic sensors on the ground. If recorded, they are usually reported as one-off events. This study is the first seismic bulk analysis of the largest single fireball data set, observed by the Desert Fireball Network (DFN) in Australia in the period 2014-2019. The DFN typically observes fireballs from cm-m scale impactors. We identified 25 fireballs in seismic time series data recorded by the Australian National Seismograph Network (ANSN). This corresponds to 1.8% of surveyed fireballs, at the kinetic energy range of 10$^6$ to 10$^{10}$ J. The peaks observed in the seismic time series data were consistent with calculated arrival times of the direct airwave or ground-coupled Rayleigh wave caused by shock waves by the fireball in the atmosphere (either due to fragmentation or the passage of the Mach cone). Our work suggests that identification of fireball events in the seismic time series data depends both on physical properties of a fireball (such as fireball energy and entry angle in the atmosphere) and the sensitivity of a seismic instrument. This work suggests that fireballs are likely detectable within 200 km direct air distance between a fireball and seismic station, for sensors used in the ANSN. If each DFN observatory had been accompanied by a seismic sensor of similar sensitivity, 50% of surveyed fireballs could have been detected. Materials with strong electronic correlations host remarkable -- and technologically relevant -- phenomena such as magnetism, superconductivity and metal-insulator transitions. Harnessing and controlling these effects is a major challenge, on which key advances are being made through lattice and strain engineering in thin films and heterostructures, leveraging the complex interplay between electronic and structural degrees of freedom. Here we show that the electronic structure of LaNiO3 can be tuned by means of lattice engineering. We use different substrates to induce compressive and tensile biaxial epitaxial strain in LaNiO3 thin films. Our measurements reveal systematic changes of the optical spectrum as a function of strain and, notably, an increase of the low-frequency free carrier weight as tensile strain is applied. Using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we show that this apparently counter-intuitive effect is due to a change of orientation of the oxygen octahedra.The calculations also reveal drastic changes of the electronic structure under strain, associated with a Fermi surface Lifshitz transition. We provide an online applet to explore these effects. The experimental value of integrated spectral weight below 2 eV is significantly (up to a factor of 3) smaller than the DFT results, indicating a transfer of spectral weight from the infrared to energies above 2 eV. The suppression of the free carrier weight and the transfer of spectral weight to high energies together indicate a correlation-induced band narrowing and free carrier mass enhancement due to electronic correlations. Based on telescopic observations of Jupiter-family comets (JFCs), there is predicted to be a paucity of objects at sub-kilometre sizes. However, several bright fireballs and some meteorites have been tenuously linked to the JFC population, showing metre-scale objects do exist in this region. In 2017, the Desert Fireball Network (DFN) observed a grazing fireball that redirected a meteoroid from an Apollo-type orbit to a JFC-like orbit. Using orbital data collected by the DFN, in this study, we have generated an artificial dataset of close terrestrial encounters that come within $1.5$ lunar distances (LD) of the Earth in the size-range of $0.01-100$kg. This range of objects is typically too small for telescopic surveys to detect, so using atmospheric impact flux data from fireball observations is currently one of the only ways to characterise these close encounters. Based on this model, we predict that within the considered size-range $2.5\times 10^{8}$ objects ($0.1\%$ of the total flux) from asteroidal orbits ($T_{J}>3$) are annually sent onto JFC-like orbits ($2

On the 27th of November 2015, at 10:43:45.526 UTC, a fireball was observed across South Australia by ten Desert Fireball Network observatories lasting 6.1 s. A $\sim37$ kg meteoroid entered the atmosphere with a speed of 13.68$\pm0.09\,\mbox{km s}^{-1}$ and was observed ablating from a height of 85 km down to 18 km, having slowed to 3.28$\pm0.21 \,\mbox{km s}^{-1}$. Despite the relatively steep 68.5$^\circ$ trajectory, strong atmospheric winds significantly influenced the darkfight phase and the predicted fall line, but the analysis put the fall site in the centre of Kati Thanda - Lake Eyre South. Kati Thanda has metres-deep mud under its salt-encrusted surface. Reconnaissance of the area where the meteorite landed from a low flying aircraft revealed a 60 cm circular feature in the muddy lake, less than 50 m from the predicted fall line. After a short search, which again employed light aircraft, the meteorite was recovered on the 31st December 2015 from a depth of 42 cm. Murrili is the first recovered observed fall by the digital Desert Fireball Network (DFN). In addition to its scientific value, connecting composition to solar system context via orbital data, the recover demonstrates and validates the capabilities of the DFN, with its next generation remote observatories and automated data reduction pipeline.

The world's meteorite collections contain a very rich picture of what the early Solar System would have been made of, however the lack of spatial context with respect to their parent population for these samples is an issue. The asteroid population is equally as rich in surface mineralogies, and mapping these two populations (meteorites and asteroids) together is a major challenge for planetary science. Directly probing asteroids achieves this at a high cost. Observing meteorite falls and calculating their pre-atmospheric orbit on the other hand, is a cheaper way to approach the problem. The Global Fireball Observatory (GFO) collaboration was established in 2017 and brings together multiple institutions (from Australia, USA, Canada, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Argentina) to maximise the area for fireball observation time and therefore meteorite recoveries. The members have a choice to operate independently, but they can also choose to work in a fully collaborative manner with other GFO partners. This efficient approach leverages the experience gained from the Desert Fireball Network (DFN) pathfinder project in Australia. The state-of-the art technology (DFN camera systems and data reduction) and experience of the support teams is shared between all partners, freeing up time for science investigations and meteorite searching. With all networks combined together, the GFO collaboration already covers 0.6% of the Earth's surface for meteorite recovery as of mid-2019, and aims to reach 2% in the early 2020s. We estimate that after 5 years of operation, the GFO will have observed a fireball from virtually every meteorite type.
