Penetrating water in fiber-reinforced plastics can alter the mechanical properties considerably. To avoid potential resulting failure of the component, we propose continuous monitoring of the humidity inside the material by highly-sensitive humidity sensors based on nano- or microcomposites. Here we report on the inline-capable fabrication and integration of humidity sensors in glass fiber-reinforced polyamide (GF-PA6). The semiconducting properties of a bithiophene-naphthalene diimide copolymer (PNDIT2) prepared by Ni-catalyzed chain-growth polycondensation (P1) and commercially available N2200 synthesized by Pd-catalyzed step-growth polycondensation were compared. Both polymers show similar electron mobility of [similar]0.2 cm2 V−1 s−1, as measured in top-gate OFETs with Au source/drain electrodes. It is noteworthy that the new synthesis has several technological advantages compared to traditional Stille polycondensation, as it proceeds rapidly at room temperature and does not involve toxic tin-based monomers. Furthermore, a step forward to fully printed polymeric devices was achieved. To this end, transistors with PEDOT:PSS source/drain electrodes were fabricated on plastic foils by means of mass printing technologies in a roll-to-roll printing press. Surface treatment of the printed electrodes with PEIE, which reduces the work function of PEDOT:PSS, was essential to lower the threshold voltage and achieve high electron mobility. Fully polymeric P1 and N2200-based OFETs achieved average linear and saturation FET mobilities of >0.08 cm2 V−1 s−1. Hence, the performance of n-type, plastic OFET devices prepared in ambient laboratory conditions approaches those achieved by more sophisticated and expensive technologies, utilizing gold electrodes and time/energy consuming thermal annealing and lithographic steps. Fast access to older theses and dissertations is still difficult, because they are often available only in printed form. If in digital form, content of these books could be available more easily. However, scanning of bounded books is a time-consuming and costly process - the pages of the book must be turned manually. At the Institute for Print and Media Technology, a device was developed, which can turn the sides of a bounded book automatically. While the book is scanned, the operator is free for other tasks, as for example the control and revision of already scanned material and the input of corresponding data records (meta data) into a catalogue system. The presentation gives an overview of the technical functionality, application possibilities and limits of the device. A second main point is the presentation of a draft for the integration of the device into a software based workflow. After the optical character recognition an examination of the scanned pages of the book should be done within this workflow. Missing pages must be recognised, and the operator is informed about these failures. In another step the structure of the book is analysed. Among other things this information can be used to produce an XML-File. Thus the publication and archiving of the thesis as an ETD in online data bases can be supported easily.

Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die ortsaufgelöste Untersuchung der Schichtdicke und der elektrischen Eigenschaften von Funktionsschichten in gedruckten Polymersolarzellen. Die massendrucktechnische Realisierung der großflächigen Polymersolarzellen mit dem Schichtaufbau Zink/ZnO/P3HT:PCBM/PEDOT:PSS erfolgt im Tief- und Siebdruckverfahren auf einem papierbasierten Bedruckstoff. Die gedruckten Funktionsschichten werden mit verschieden optischen und elektrischen Messverfahren charakterisiert und die Eignung der Verfahren wird diskutiert. Abschließend wird die gesamte Polymersolarzelle mit einer Kombination aus spektraler und elektrischer Messung positionsgenau untersucht. Dadurch kann ein Zusammenhang zwischen den Solarzelleneigenschaften und den ortsaufgelösten Messwerten aufgezeigt werden. The aim of this work is the space-resolved investigation of the layer thickness and the electrical properties of functional layers in printed polymer solar cells. The realization of the large-area polymer solar cells with a layer structure of zinc/ZnO/P3HT:PCBM/PEDOT:PSS occurs by gravure and screen printing on a paper-based substrate. The printed functional layers are characterized by different optical and electrical measurement methods and the suitability of these methods is discussed. Finally, the complete polymer solar cell is examined dependent on a position by using a combination of spectral and electrical measurement techniques. With this analysis a correlation between the solar cell characteristics and the space-resolved measurements can be shown.

Ausgehend von der Anwendung von Folienhinterspritzprozessen für dekorative Zwecke wurde deren Nutzung für die Integration elektronischer Strukturen in Kunststoffbauteile untersucht. Die Herstellung der elektronischen Bauelemente erfolgte mittels verschiedener Druckverfahren mit elektrisch leitfähigen und dielektrischen Materialien auf Polycarbonatfolien. Im Fokus standen zum einen kapazitiv auslesbare Speicherstrukturen und zum anderen Elektrolumineszenzleuchten. Nach dem Druck wurden die bedruckten Folien z. T. verformt und hinterspritzt. In der Arbeit wird auf die Auswirkungen der Verform- und Hinterspritzprozesse eingegangen. Schwerpunktmäßig wird die elektronische bzw. optische Funktionalität der Bauelemente, die Beeinflussung durch Klimaveränderungen und die Haftfestigkeit der Folien betrachtet. Im Ergebnis konnten erstmals die Realisierbarkeit hinterspritzter elektronischer Bauelemente nachgewiesen sowie verschiedene Einflussfaktoren auf deren Funktionalität identifiziert werden. Based on the application of film insert molding for graphic purposes, the utilization of this process for the integration of electronic devices into plastic components was examined. The manufacturing of the electronic devices was realized by applying electrical conductive and dielectric inks on polycarbonate foil by various printing processes. Capacitive data storage patterns and electroluminescent lamps are the main applications. The production sequence included the printing process, forming of the foil where required and back injection molding. The impact of forming and film insert molding was investigated. The electronic and/or optical functionality of the devices, the influence of ambient conditions like temperature or humidity and the adhesion strength of the foils were in the focus of the evaluation. As a result, the feasibility of film insert molded electronic devices could be verified and various impact factors could be identified for the first time.

The discovery of conducting and semiconducting polymers has opened the possibility to produce integrated circuits entirely of plastic with standard continuous printing techniques. Nowadays several of this polymers are commercial available, however the performances of this materials are strongly affected by their supramolecular order achieved after deposition. In this research, the influence of some standard printing techniques on the electrical performances of conjugated polymers is evidenced in order to realise logic devices with these materials.
