The increasing complexity of information systems requires a systematic monitoring of the information system’s architecture, components, and operation within the strategic, tactical, and operational information management. While there exists a broad methodical assistance for information system’s planning and directing, the monitoring aspect suffers from lacking awareness of the problem on the part of the information manager and missing knowledge about appropriate methods. The paper emphasizes the need for systematic monitoring and gives an overview of the most important methods and tools to support systematic monitoring of the HIS and its components. The overview is presented according to the levels of information management. Basis were best practice approaches like ITIL and COBIT, economic science’s approaches like the Balanced Scorecard as well as appropriate information management’s literature.

This study investigates the NO reduction by H2 on a Pd/Al2O3 catalyst in a temperature range of 100–300 °C and NO/H2 ratios from 0.5–2, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of the reaction kinetics and its interaction with mass transfer. Planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) is used to visualize the NO distributions over the catalyst, supplemented by end-of-pipe gas analysis of other components. The reduced Pd-based catalyst undergoes a slow deactivation after exposure to the reactive flow, leading to reduced overall NO conversion and decreased selectivity towards N2. The NO-PLIF measurements are only conducted on the reduced catalyst without considering the temporal evolutions. Despite the overall NO conversion varying only around 50%–65% across all the investigated conditions, the spatially resolved NO distributions reveal three distinct regimes that limit the overall NO conversion: the regime governed by intrinsic reaction rates, the regime constrained by H2 availability, and the regime restricted by NO diffusion. These findings, demonstrating the interaction between reaction kinetics and mass transfer over a heterogeneous catalyst, highlight the significance of analyzing spatially resolved concentration distributions obtained through PLIF measurements. This approach complements the conventional end-of-pipe analysis, offering a more comprehensive understanding of the underlying processes.

Unsteady film flows play an important role in intensifying heat and mass transfer processes, with applications, e.g., in falling film absorbers or reactors. In this context, the influence of surface structure modification on the wave dynamics of falling film flows is experimentally investigated based on localized film thickness time series data. Arrays of rectangular ridges oriented perpendicular to the main flow direction are considered, and an optimum ridge distance is identified, at which particularly strong interfacial oscillations are induced in the falling film. These potentially result from the interaction of the flow with a statically deformed base film under resonance-like conditions. The transient destabilization is amplified in the case of narrow ridge sizes, where inertia-driven flow features are particularly pronounced. With regard to mass transfer applications, the structure-induced increase in gas–liquid interfacial area may be of secondary importance compared to changes in internal flow conditions. Background: Wiping is an effective and established method for decontaminating surfaces, it involves applying liquid while simultaneously removing soils. Chlorine dioxide is a high-level disinfectant that can be applied to surfaces, including those of medical devices, with the aid of mechanical action or wiping. The European Standard (EN) 16615 evaluates the microbiocidal efficacy of a chemical disinfectant when it is applied with mechanical action, i.e., when applied by wiping. It has been suggested that manual methods employing human intervention can lead to variations in a validated process. One such assumption is that variable wiping force that exists between users may influence the effectiveness of the process. Method: The average wiping force of individuals with varying physical characteristics was investigated. A bespoke testing apparatus was employed in a series of EN 16615 four-field tests, with the aim to investigate if variable wiping force between individuals impacts the microbiocidal efficacy of a chlorine dioxide-based wipe disinfectant if tested as applied as in practice. Results: Individuals applied variable forces when wiping. Physical attributes such as hand dominance and body build were shown to influence the force applied. The average wiping force calculated from this pool of participants was found to be lower than the stated range given by the EN 16615. The pre-impregnated chlorine dioxide-based wipe achieved biocidal efficacy in the series of EN 16615 tests. No trend relating to the efficacy of the product and the different forces applied could be drawn. Conclusion: The data demonstrates that individuals apply different forces to a surface when wiping. However, the variability expressed when wiping has no impact on the microbiocidal efficacy of a manually applied chlorine dioxide-based disinfectant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
