In the international literature describing the interpretation and models of resilience and competitiveness, it is challenging to find a complex answer to the relationship between the two variables. However, a region's flexibility, adaptability, and competitiveness have an impact on the region's economic, social, and societal situation. The objective of the research is to examine relationships between resilience and competitiveness at the regional and county levels using the Western Transdanubian region as an example over a representative, long-term time horizon of 60 years. The newly developed methodology proved suitable for identifying and examining the factors influencing resilience and creating a complex resilience index. In addition, the author proposes a novel approach to examining competitiveness, presenting the relationships between resilience and competitiveness, determining the correlations and principal components among resilience factors, and identifying the aspects with the greatest relevance.
