The purpose of this research is to perform and verify the “modified 50° preparation” suggested by the authors. This procedure was performed with a scrupulous standardization of the tooth’s preparation and then of the laboratory techniques to produce a metal-ceramic crown, and the same for the crown cementation technique of on the preparation of the original sample. After the esthetic evaluations, the obtained sample was included in EPON resin and sectioned in the lingual-vestibular sense. The sections were then observed with an optical microscope in different magnifications for the final evaluations. The geometric design proposed presents the advantages of two great preparation techniques: 50° preparation and circumferential shoulder. The 50° bevel designed in first phase of preparation and the second phase of the circumferential 27° shoulder, together allowed to satisfy the following requirements: aesthetic, marginal accuracy, periodontal compliance, conservation and stability. However, this type of prosthetic preparation is not the only one, but it is one of the marginal designs in prosthetic dentistry.

Nowadays, autograft and allograft techniques represent the main solution to improve bone repair. Unfortunately, autograft technique is expensive, invasive and subject to infections and hematoma, frequently affecting both donor sites and surgical sites. A recent advance in tissue engineering is the fabrication of cell-laden hydrogels with custom-made geometry, depending on the clinical case. The use of ECM (Extra-Cellular Matrix)-derived Hydrogels from bone tissue is the new opportunity to obtain good results in bone regeneration. Several micro-engineering techniques and approaches are available to fabricate different cell gradients and zonal structures in hydrogels design, in combination with the advancement in biomaterials selection. In this review, we analyse the stereolithografy, the Bio-patterning, the 3D bioprinting and 3D assembly, the Laser-Induced Forward Transfer Bioprinting (LIFT), the Micro-extrusion bioprinting, the promising Electrospinning technology, the Microfluidics and the Micromolding. Several mechanical properties are taken into account for bone regeneration scaffolds. However, each typology of scaffold presents some advantages and some concerns. The research on biomaterials is the most promising for bone tissue engineering: the new biomimetic materials will allow us to obtain optimal results in the next clinical application of basic research. Desse modo, esta dissertação apresenta estratégias para conservação de água potável em uma edificação comercial de grande porte através do aproveitamento de fontes de água não potável. Após uma análise preliminar de setorização do consumo de água na edificação, o estudo identificou a torre de resfriamento, os restaurantes e os banheiros como os maiores consumidores de água. Foram verificados também possíveis vazamentos nas bacias sanitárias dos banheiros sociais, constatando que estes representam 0,1% do consumo total de água do Shopping Center Vila Velha (SCVV). Ademais, este trabalho avaliou a disponibilidade das fontes de água não potável mais relevantes, neste caso: a água cinza tratada para reúso, a água de chuva e a água de condensação. Foi constatado que a água cinza produzida no centro comercial foi equivalente a 11.301,68 m³/ano, enquanto a oferta de águas pluviais demonstrou uma vazão de 64.950,80 m³/ano. Com relação à produção de água de condensação, verificou-se que 1 TR (Tonelada de refrigeração) é capaz de produzir 5,823 litros de água por dia, gerando um total de 3.492,00 m³/ano de água condensada. Foi aplicado o método do Balanço Hídrico Reconciliado (BHR), desenvolvido pela Rede Teclim da Universidade Federal da Bahia, na reconciliação dos dados de vazões medidas e estimadas, com intuito de reduzir os erros embutidos nas diferentes formas de medição de vazões. O BHR demonstrou pouca diferença entre as vazões medidas e reconciliadas. A partir das vazões reconciliadas foram calculados indicadores de consumo de água potável e água não potável, bem como geradas estratégias com os possíveis usos das águas não potáveis. Concluiuse, então, que o aproveitamento e o reúso das três fontes de água não potável (água cinza tratada para reúso, água de condensação e água da chuva) e a utilização dos reservatórios de contenção de água pluvial (RECAPs) implicariam em uma economia de 46.281,33 m³/ano, correspondendo a cerca de 84% da demanda de água não potável.

Nowadays computer-guided “flap-less” surgery for implant placement using stereolithographic tem-plates is gaining popularity among clinicians and patients. The advantages of this surgical protocol are its minimally invasive nature, accuracy of implant placement, predictability, less post-surgical discomfort and reduced time required for definitive rehabilitation. Aim of this work is to describe a new protocol (Smart Fusion by Nobel Biocare), thanks to which is now possible to do a mini-invasive static guided implant surgery, in partially edentulous patients with at least 6 remaining teeth, without the use of a radiographic guide. This is possible thanks to a procedure named surface mapping based on the matching between numerous points on the surface of patient’s dental casts and the corresponding anatomical surface points in the CBCT data. The full protocol is examined focusing the attention on the clinical and laboratory procedures.

Background: Paravertebral injection of ozone is an established clinical practice for the treatment of Low Back Pain (LBP). The role of Ultrasound Guidance (USG) in mini invasive procedures has become important in many clinical practice thanks to the greater precision this technique can add. As matter of fact, a large volume of ozone in a single administration may have some adverse or side effects. In this study we wanted to verify if the use of USG in Oxygen/ Ozone (O2/O3) infiltrations could allow the administration of a smaller volume of gas mixture, increasing the safety and the comfort of the procedure itself, obtaining however similar or better results in pain decrease. Methods: We compared two groups of 25 patients affected by LBP, undergoing 10 infiltrations of O2/O3, by using USG (group U) or only anatomical landmarks (group AL). Pain intensity, by calculating Visual Analogical Scale (VAS) difference before and after the treatment, and the discomfort were evaluated in both groups. Results: The mean of the VAS before the treatment was 6.44 in group U and 6.48 in group AL. The mean of the VAS after the treatment was 2.22 in group U and 3.04 in group AL. The mean of discomfort rate was 2.84 in group U and 5.44 in group AL. The number of patients with unbearable discomfort was 0 in group U and 7 in group AL. Conclusions: As many other treatment, also paravertebral injections of O2/O3 benefits of the advantages of the US device which makes this treatment safer and more accurate.

Petunia is an excellent model system, especially for genetic, physiological and molecular studies. Thus far, however, genome-wide expression analysis has been applied rarely because of the lack of sequence information. We applied next-generation sequencing to generate, through de novo read assembly, a large catalogue of transcripts for Petunia axillaris and Petunia inflata. On the basis of both transcriptomes, comprehensive microarray chips for gene expression analysis were established and used for the analysis of global- and organ-specific gene expression in Petunia axillaris and Petunia inflata and to explore the molecular basis of the seed coat defects in a Petunia hybrida mutant, anthocyanin 11 (an11), lacking a WD40-repeat (WDR) transcription regulator. Among the transcripts differentially expressed in an11 seeds compared with wild type, many expected targets of AN11 were found but also several interesting new candidates that might play a role in morphogenesis of the seed coat. Our results validate the combination of next-generation sequencing with microarray analyses strategies to identify the transcriptome of two petunia species without previous knowledge of their genome, and to develop comprehensive chips as useful tools for the analysis of gene expression in P. axillaris, P. inflata and P. hybrida. © 2011 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.

The green tea is obtained by an unfermented process of leaves of Camellia sinensis and the main chemical components are polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin-3-gallate and epicatechin-3-gallate that could be associated to adverse hepatic reactions. We present a case of acute hepatitis caused by the use of green tea.A 62-year-old woman was hospitalized because of the persistent high levels of liver function tests. After the hospitalization a lot of instrumental exams and blood checks were performed. The search of metallic elements in the used green tea infusions was performed using an inductively coupled-plasma mass spectrometry; high performance liquid chromatography-electro spray ionization-mass spectrometry analysis was done to characterize the metabolite profiles of the infusions of green tea. The blood check showed in particular alanine aminotransferase (780 U/L) and total bilirubin (1.15 mg/dL) levels abnormal. The abdominal echography and other blood parameters were normal, but liver biopsy described a “drug toxic damage”. Every day over the previous 9 months the patient drank two or three cups of several brands of green tea infusions and she stopped this behavior when abdominal pain was persistent. Her medical history didn’t report the use of other drugs or toxic products. After four months of stopping the use of green tea infusions, the liver function tests were normalized. The presence of metallic elements in tea infusion cannot justify the observed liver toxicity in our patient. Instead, the highest levels of epigallo catechin methyl gallate derived from epigallocatechin-3-gallate observed in one of the samples consumed by the patient, arise a possible correlation between some of the catechins in green tea and the hepatotoxic effect. It is conceivable that the mechanism of damage can be idiosyncratic-metabolic or allergic.

Postoperative adhesions represent a common consequence in patients who underwent abdominal or pelvic surgery. Such adhesions can be asymptomatic, but they can cause complications such as chronic abdomino-pelvic pain, secondary infertility, an increase in bowel obstruction risk and more complexity for future surgery, including longer surgery times and an increase in morbidity. Normally, adhesions appear after offences against the peritoneum, causing flogosys, and develop both in new sites, previously not involved, and in sites already interested in adhesiolysis. Previous laparotomy is an important risk factor, as after laparatomy a minimum of 93% of patients present adhesions during a following surgery. Furthermore, the rate of recurrence after adhesiolysis is 85%. Among several strategies employed, valid prevention methods are: using minimally invasive surgery techniques, reducing the incision area, containing tissue dehydration during surgery and an accurate hemostasis. Also, for preventing and reducing adhesions, the usage of NSAIDs, fibrinolytics and anticoagulants, as well as the application of substances acting as a physical barrier, have been proposed. Recently, crystalloid solutions have been introduced, using the hydro-flotation principle for intraperitoneal organs. This research aims to analyze causes and epidemiology for postoperative adhesions, with particular regard to gynecological operations and to describe and compare the means available to prevent them.

Urinary incontinence consist in voluntary urine leakage. Female affected in the world are about 200 thousand. Urinary incontinence affect severely women quality of life. There are different kinds of urinary incontinence that can be treated in different ways. We can use pelvic floor rehabilitation, drug therapy, invasive and non-invasive surgical treatment. Different treatments are used for different incontinence types. Periurethral injection is the most common procedure between non-invasive surgery. The most recent bulking agents occasionally determine severe adverse reaction or complication. Frequently we can have just pain during injection and a temporary urine retention. During the latest years we used a lot of bulking agents: bovine collagen, autologous fat, carbon particles, macroplastique, calcium hydroxylapatite, ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer, dextranomer. Urethral injection have success in 40-90%. We can assert that macroplastique is the most efficacy and safe on the basis of literature data and of our experience data. This surgical procedure, in fact, has good percentage of success in accurately selected patients. In our experience Macroplastique can also be used in oncological patients, in elderly women, in patients with important comorbidity and with high surgical risk with good objective and subjective results.
