16. Revolutionizing Colon Histopathology Glandular Segmentation Using an Ensemble Network With Watershed Algorithm.

Abstract

Colorectal adenocarcinoma, the most prevalent form of colon cancer, originates in the glandular structures of the intestines, presenting histopathological abnormalities in affected tissues. Accurate gland segmentation is crucial for identifying these potentially fatal abnormalities. While recent methodologies have shown success in segmenting glands in benign tissues, their efficacy diminishes when applied to malignant tissue segmentation. This study aims to develop a robust learning algorithm using a convolutional neural network (CNN) to segment glandular structures in colon histology images. The methodology employs a CNN based on the U‐Net architecture, augmented by a weighted ensemble network that integrates DenseNet 169, Inception V3, and Efficientnet B3 as backbone models. Additionally, the segmented gland boundaries are refined using the watershed algorithm. Evaluation on the Warwick‐QU dataset demonstrates promising results for the ensemble model, by achieving an F1 score of 0.928 and 0.913, object dice coefficient of 0.923 and 0.911, and Hausdorff distances of 38.97 and 33.76 on test sets A and B, respectively. These results are compared with outcomes from the GlaS challenge (MICCAI 2015) and existing research findings. Furthermore, our model is validated with a publicly available dataset named LC25000, and visual inspection reveals promising results, further validating the efficacy of our approach. The proposed ensemble methodology underscores the advantages of amalgamating diverse models, highlighting the potential of ensemble techniques to enhance segmentation tasks beyond individual model capabilities. 24. Glacier facies characterisation in transboundary West Sikkim Himalaya from TerraSAR-X; GLCM based classification approach.

Abstract

The proposed facies classification approach uses three features of the GLCM with multitemporal X-band SAR data of TerraSAR-X combined with k-means clustering. This approach was tested on 15 transboundary Himalayan glaciers. They were classified into six facies namely debris, dry snow, wet snow, bare ice, percolation zone 1 and percolation zone 2 and the covered areas for these classes are 20.56%, 12.50%, 20.26%, 13.16%, 25.49% and 8.03% of total area respectively. After classification, the signature for classes are validated using the benchmark outline of East Rathong glacier, India. The accuracy achieved is 89.56% with negligible variance and kappa of 0.87. Abstract

Introduction: Colposcopy is a medical procedure for detecting cervical lesions. Access to devices required for colposcopy procedures is limited in low- and middle-income countries. However, various existing digital imaging techniques based on artificial intelligence offer solutions to analyze colposcopy images and address accessibility challenges. Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, National Library of Medicine, and Crossref, which met our inclusion criteria for our study. Various methods and research gaps are addressed, including how variability in images and sample size affect the accuracy of the methods. The quality and risk of each study were assessed following the QUADAS-2 guidelines. Results: Development of image analysis and compression algorithms, and their efficiency are analyzed. Most of the studied algorithms have attained specificity, sensitivity, and accuracy which range from 86% to 95%, 75%–100%, and 100%, respectively, and these results were validated by the clinician to analyze the images quickly and thus minimize biases among the clinicians. Conclusion: This systematic review provides a comprehensive study on colposcopy image analysis stages and the advantages of utilizing digital imaging techniques to enhance image analysis and diagnostic procedures and ensure prompt consultations. Abstract

Malnutrition and related health complexities are creating a plethora of challenges to human development. The context of India is not an exception for the multifaceted impacts of malnutrition. The policy frameworks and program based interventions in India had given enough attention to address the issues of nutrition in a pragmatic manner. The question that arises here is whether these policies and programs budgeted appropriately or not? The policies itself won't be materialized as action unless enough resources are allocated. In this context, the present paper focuses on analyzing the efforts of the Union governments to address health and nutritional problems of children. The paper further look into the nutrition-specific as well as nutrition-sensitive interventions by examining the budget outlays and implementation of interventions for improving nutrition. The available secondary database was significantly utilized as the source of information for this study. The reflections from the analysis indicate some of the unpromising trends. Although the allocation of National Health Mission (NHM), which is the core scheme for health-related interventions, has increased by 9.5 percent it constitutes only one percent of total union budget. The budget allocation for ICDS has not increased significantly in accordance with the time and needs. The budget for the important components of NHM, the Reproductive and child health (RCH), is also declining. 45. Filter design for gray image by down-sample and up-sample

Abstract

Aims: Designing of a filter which can separate out the target from background in a given image. Methods: The original gray image is down-sampled by rejecting every alternate pixel values between two columns and two rows. A 3-step down-sampling was done to avoid major information loss. A 3-step up-sampling was done by replicating the lower row and the right column from the down-sampled data matrix to obtain the original size of the matrix. The image matrix thus obtained was subtracted from the original image. Results: The iterative down-sampling and up-sampling matrix gives the background information. Subtraction from original image obtains the target. Thus filters the background.
