A selective C3–H nitration of bioactive 2-sulfanilamidopyridine derivatives, including corticosteroid 11-β-dehydrogenase isozyme, secretory phospholipase A2 inhibitor and human neutrophil elastase inhibitor, has been reported.

Background The 2012 European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) guidelines provided a clear definition of feeding intolerance (FI). The study aimed to investigate the association between FI based on the current ESICM definition and clinical outcome and to further explore the effect of the duration of FI on mortality. Methods Adult patients from 14 general intensive care units (ICUs) with an expected ICU stay ≥24 hours were prospectively studied. Based on FI duration in the first week of admission to the ICU, FI was categorized as 7-day persistent feeding tolerance (FT), delayed FT, delayed FI, and 7-day persistent FI. The primary outcomes were 28-day and 60-day all-cause mortality. Results Of 499 patients, the prevalence of 3-day and 7-day persistent FI was 39.2% (n = 196) and 25.4% (n = 106), respectively. The patients with 3-day FT had lower risk of 28-day and 60-day mortality rates and higher prevalence in ventilator weaning and vasoactive medication on the seventh day of ICU admission than those with 3-day FI. Three-day FI remained an independent predictor for 60-day mortality. In a subgroup analysis including 418 patients with 7-day survival, compared with those with 7-day persistent FT, the odds ratios of 60-day mortality were 1.67, 1.97, and 2.62 in the patients with delayed FT, delayed FI, and 7-day persistent FI, respectively. Conclusion FI was associated with increased mortality and longer duration of mechanical ventilation and vasoactive support. Prolonged or relapsing FI represented an incremental risk of adverse outcomes in critically ill patients.

The combination of a Pd catalyst and tert-butyl hydro­peroxide (TBHP) is a powerful catalytic system for many types of oxidative transformations. Here, we report that a Pd/TBHP system facilitates the oxidation of indoles with a range of functionalities to give the corresponding isatin derivatives in good yields.

Computer simulation of silk reeling is an important means to understand structure and formation of raw silk, and simulation to generate cocoon filament size curve is the premise of computer simulation of reeling silk. In this paper, according to unique pattern of cocoon filament size curve that is “thin-thick-thin, the last part is the thinnest”, a simulation and generation method of cocoon filament size curve with adjustable morphological is obtained by analyzing the characteristic point values and statistical data of cocoon filament size curve, such as head end size, maximum size and its position on cocoon filament, length of cocoon filament. Through a lot of simulation practice and analysis on statistical characteristics of cocoon filament size curve, it is considered that the proposed generation method has good applicability.

Tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) is one of the most beneficial beverages due to its health attributes. Whole leaf transcriptome analysis of three leaf stages of C. sinensis has the potential to reveal candidate genes associated with these major beneficial compounds. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is one of the most important bioactive catechin (antioxidant) in tea drink derived. EGCG has many important physiological functions and positive effects on human health, such as anticancer, antioxidation, controlling blood pressure, and blood sugar content. Although the major metabolic pathways of tea-specific compounds have been established, knowledge of the genes involved in the regulation and synthesis of EGCG in C. sinensis is limited. To gain insight into the molecular mechanisms that regulate EGCG levels, leaf transcriptomes were sequenced at three developmental stages (bud, second leaf, and fourth leaf) of two C. sinensis cultivars and one F1 hybrid line #1005 that possess varying EGCG levels. Approximately 470.9 M of quality controlled-filtered sequencing paired-end reads corresponding to 47.09 G nucleotides were obtained from which 130,762 unique sequences were identified. Genes whose expression correlated with changes in EGCG levels were identified, which may be associated with EGCG content. Prediction of the potential targets of microRNAs (miRNAs), the specific subset of long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs), and mRNA-like noncoding RNAs (mlncRNAs) indicated that miRNAs may play a role in the expression regulation of the genes involved in EGCG levels.

The synthesis and luminescence of four new iridium (III) diazine complexes (1–4) were investigated. HOMO and LUMO energy levels of the complexes were estimated according to the electrochemical performance and the UV–Vis absorption spectra, showing the pyrimidine complexes have a larger increase for the LUMO than the HOMO orbital in comparison with the pyrazine complexes. Several high-efficiency yellow and green OLEDs based on phosphorescent iridium (III) diazine complexes were obtained. The devices emitting yellow light based on 1 with turn-on voltage of 4.1 V exhibited an external quantum efficiency of 13.2% (power efficiency 20.3 lm/W), a maximum current efficiency of 37.3 cd/A. The electroluminescent performance for the green iridium pyrimidine complex of 3 is comparable to that of the iridium pyridine complex (PPY)2Ir(acac) (PPY = 2-phenylpyridine), which is among the best reported.

Polymer-based blue electrophosphorescent light-emitting diodes are reported by doping iridium(III) diazine complex (DFPPM) 2 Ir(pic) (DFPPM = 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-pyrimidine, pic = picolinate) in poly(vinylcarbazole) (PVK) as the source of emission. The iridium(III) diazine complex shows sky blue emission with its maximum emission peak at 476 nm originating from an admixture of triplet metal-to-ligand charge-transfer and ligand-centered states. The (DFPPM) 2 Ir(pic)-doped device furnishes a maximum external quantum efficiency of 2.2% and power efficiency of 1.9 lm/W at a 10 wt% doping concentration.

3 MLCT abstract The synthesis and luminescence of a series of new iridium pyrazine complexes were investigated. The phosphorescent peak wavelength can be fine-tuned in yellow color range of 553-588 nm. Complexes 4 and 6 were used as representative examples for fabrication of multilayered OLEDs. The two OLEDs all exhibited high efficiency. The devices based on complex 4 exhibited an external quantum efficiency of 4.6% (power efficiency 9.7l m/W) and a maximum brightness of 32 700 cd/m 2 . The device also showed high color purity with an emission maximum at 561 nm and Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage

A mesogen-jacketed polymer P-Ct {poly{2,5-bis[(5-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole]styrene}} has been investigated as a host material for IrMDPP [Ir(III)bis(5-methyl-2,3-diphenylpyrazine) (acetyl acetonate)] doped polymer electrophosphorescent device. It was found that the device with P-Ct was more efficient than that with PVK. The maximum luminance and external luminous efficiency can reach 3702 cd/m2 and 0.83 cd/A, respectively, which were higher than those of device with PVK (1999 cd/m2 and 0.68 cd/A), which can be partly explained by the more balanced carrier injection and transportation and longer lifetime of excitons in P-Ct–TPD–IrMDPP. It was also found that as the IrMDPP content increased in P-Ct–TPD, the EL spectra color shifts from green-yellow to yellow-orange and were different from PL spectra, which was partly due to the dominating role of direct charge-trapping and recombination in the EL process over the energy-transfer routes.
