This letter presents an analysis of channel characteristics for an outdoor scenario at the frequency band of 28-30 GHz. A geometry-based clustering algorithm is proposed to group the measured multipath components (MPCs) from the interaction points on the surrounding walls or objects according to ray-tracing three-dimensional (3-D) simulations, giving results that are more physically interpretable than the traditional clustering algorithms. The cluster-level characteristics at 15 positions along a predefined route covering both line-of-sight (LoS) and non-LoS (NLoS) scenarios are investigated. Moreover, power contributions of MPCs with multiple bounces (up to seven bounces in NLoS scenario) from the interaction objects are also investigated.

Background and Aims Artemisia is a mega-diverse genus consisting of ~400 species. Despite its medicinal importance and ecological significance, a well-resolved phylogeny for global Artemisia, a natural generic delimitation and infrageneric taxonomy remain missing, owing to the obstructions from limited taxon sampling and insufficient information on DNA markers. Its morphological characters, such as capitulum, life form and leaf, show marked variations and are widely used in its infrageneric taxonomy. However, their evolution within Artemisia is poorly understood. Here, we aimed to reconstruct a well-resolved phylogeny for global Artemisia via a phylogenomic approach, to infer the evolutionary patterns of its key morphological characters and to update its circumscription and infrageneric taxonomy. Methods We sampled 228 species (258 samples) of Artemisia and its allies from both fresh and herbarium collections, covering all the subgenera and its main geographical areas, and conducted a phylogenomic analysis based on nuclear single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) obtained from genome skimming data. Based on the phylogenetic framework, we inferred the possible evolutionary patterns of six key morphological characters widely used in its previous taxonomy. Key Results The genus Kaschgaria was revealed to be nested in Artemisia with strong support. A well-resolved phylogeny of Artemisia consisting of eight highly supported clades was recovered, two of which were identified for the first time. Most of the previously recognized subgenera were not supported as monophyletic. Evolutionary inferences based on the six morphological characters showed that different states of these characters originated independently more than once. Conclusions The circumscription of Artemisia is enlarged to include the genus Kaschgaria. The morphological characters traditionally used for the infrageneric taxonomy of Artemisia do not match the new phylogenetic tree. They experienced a more complex evolutionary history than previously thought. Thin 2D boron carbon nitride nanosheets (BCNNS) possess high thermal and chemical stability as well as tunable electronic properties, but the lack of effective synthesis methods hinders their practical application. Herein, a facile and efficient approach for the synthesis of large-area boron carbon nitride nanosheets in molten KCl–NaCl salt media has been proposed. A Single precursor compound, ethylenediamine bisborane, was first heated to 1000 °C in KCl–NaCl salt melts and then held for only two minutes to produce BCNNS. Benefiting from the effective solvation of precursors and reduced surface energy in liquid salt melt, the lateral size of resultant BCNNS can reach up to 12 microns. The as-prepared products are subsequently used as a co-catalyst with silver phosphate (Ag3PO4) for degradation methyl orange under simulated sunlight. Due to the improved electronic property and interfacial effect of BCNNS, the photocatalytic performance of Ag3PO4 was significantly improved. The photodegradation rate increased from 0.369 min−1 of Ag3PO4 to 1.006 min−1 of BCN/Ag3PO4 composite with only 0.6 wt% BCNNS loading, a 2.73-fold higher value than that of pure Ag3PO4.

Predicting brain invasion preoperatively should help to guide surgical decision-making and aid the prediction of meningioma grading and prognosis. However, only a few imaging features have been identified to aid prediction. This study aimed to develop and validate an MRI-based nomogram to predict brain invasion by meningioma. In this retrospective study, 658 patients were examined via routine MRI before undergoing surgery and were diagnosed with meningioma by histopathology. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regularization was used to determine the optimal combination of clinical characteristics and MRI features for predicting brain invasion by meningiomas. Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were used to determine the discriminatory ability. Furthermore, a nomogram was constructed using the optimal MRI features, and decision curve analysis was used to validate the clinical usefulness of the nomogram. Eighty-one patients with brain invasion and 577 patients without invasion were enrolled. According to LASSO regularization, tumour shape, tumour boundary, peritumoral oedema, and maximum diameter were independent predictors of brain invasion. The model showed good discriminatory ability for predicting brain invasion in meningiomas, with an AUC of 0.905 (95% CI, 0.871–0.940) vs 0.898 (95% CI, 0.849–0.947) and sensitivity of 93.0% vs 92.6% in the training vs validation cohorts. Our predictive model based on MRI features showed good performance and high sensitivity for predicting the risk of brain invasion in meningiomas and can be applied in the clinical setting.

This paper investigates the wideband channel characteristics obtained in a classroom and a hall indoor scenarios at 2-4, 9-11 and 27-29GHz. A virtual uniform circular array (UCA) based channel sounding system was utilized to capture wideband spatial channel characteristics. The propagation parameters of multipath components (MPCs) were estimated by using a high resolution parameter estimation (HRPE) algorithm. The estimated MPCs are further grouped into clusters via a novel clustering identification algorithm based on the KPowerMeans algorithm. The comparison of the composite and cluster-level characteristics at multiple frequency bands in both scenarios is investigated. Moreover, the impact of the indoor room environment, i.e. dimension and furniture, on the propagation channel is also analyzed. The statistics of channel parameters at multiple frequency bands extracted constitute a stochastic clustered spatial channel model.

Purpose To develop a dual-energy spectral CT (DESCT) nomogram for the preoperative identification of KRAS mutation in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Method One hundred and twenty-four patients who underwent energy spectrum CT pre-operatively were recruited and split into mutated KRAS group (n = 50) and wild-type KRAS group (n = 74). DESCT parameters, including monochromatic CT value, iodine concentration, water concentration, and effective atomic number were measured independently by two reviewers in the arterial, venous, and delayed phases. Normalized iodine concentration (NIC) and slope k of the spectral HU curve were calculated. Evaluate other imaging features such as ATL/LTL ratio, tumor gross pattern, pericolorectal fat invasion (PFI) was also performed by these reviewers. Independent predictors for KRAS mutation were screened out using logistic regression, and these predictors were presented as a nomogram. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the clinical usefulness of the nomogram. Results The slope k in the arterial phase, effective atomic number in the arterial phase, NIC in the venous phase, ATL/LTL ratio and PFI were significant independent predictors for KRAS mutation. Based on these independent predictors, a quantitative nomogram was developed to predict individual KRAS mutation probability. The nomogram had excellent performance with an AUC of 0.848 and excellent calibration. DCA showed that our nomogram has outstanding clinical utility. Conclusions This study demonstrates that a DESCT based nomogram has potential value for individual preoperative identification of KRAS mutation in CRC patients.

Purpose: In this study, we used computed tomography (CT)-based radiomics signatures to predict the mutation status of KRAS in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Methods: This study involved 447 patients who underwent KRAS mutation testing and preoperative triphasic enhanced CT. They were categorised into training (n = 313) and validation cohorts (n = 134) in the ratio 7:3. Radiomics features were extracted from CT imaging. The Boruta algorithm was used to retain the features closely associated with KRAS mutation. Multivariate logistic regression was used to develop radiomics, clinical, and combined clinical-radiomics models for KRAS mutation. The receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the predictive performance and clinical usefulness of each model. Results: Fourteen radiomics features were retained as the as final signatures for predicting KRAS mutations. Delayed phase models showed superior predictive performance compared to arterial phases models or venous phase models. The clinical-radiomics fusion model showed excellent performance, with an AUC, sensitivity and specificity were 0.772, 0.792 and 0.646 in the training cohort, while 0.755, 0.724 and 0.684 in the validation cohort, respectively. Conclusions: The clinical-radiomics fusion model can be used as a potential imaging marker for preoperative detection of KRAS mutation status.

In this contribution, a recently conducted measurement campaign for indoor millimeter-wave (mm-wave) propagation channels is introduced. A vector network analyzer (VNA)-based channel sounder was exploited to record the channel characteristics at the frequency band from 28-30 GHz. A virtual uniform circular array (UCA) with a radius of 0.25 m was formed using a rotator with 360 steps. Moreover, by taking advantage of fiber-optic technique applied in the channel sounder, measurements at 50 positions were performed from an indoor hall to an indoor corridor along a long pre-defined route. A low-complexity high-resolution propagation estimation (HRPE) algorithm is exploited to estimate the propagation parameters of multipath components (MPCs). Based on the HRPE estimation results, a novel clustering identification and tracking algorithm is proposed to trace clusters. Composite channel characteristics, cluster-level characteristics and dynamic (or birth-death) behaviours of the clusters are investigated, which constitute a dynamic model for the indoor mm-wave channel.

Microcystic meningiomas (MCMs) and meningeal Ewing sarcoma/peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumours (pPNETs) are difficult to differentiate because of the similarity in their image manifestation on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Differential diagnosis of these two tumours before surgery could contribute to ameliorating clinical decision-making, and predicting prognosis. Here, we aimed to comparatively analyse the difference between MRI and pathological findings of these two tumours. Thirteen cases of MCM and eleven cases of meningeal Ewing sarcoma/pPNET confirmed through pathology were analysed retrospectively. The imaging features of the two tumours were statistically analysed using the Chi square test. The average age of patients with MCM and meningeal Ewing sarcoma/pPNET was 47 ± 18.4 years and 20 ± 13.2 years, respectively. Features of MRI, including tumour morphology, dural tail sign, bony destruction, and distant metastasis, were significantly different between the two tumours (p 0.001). T1-weighted (T1W) signal and enhanced features resulted in a p value of 0.05. There were no significant differences in the T2-weighted (T2W) signal and peri-tumoural oedema (p 0.05). MCM immunohistochemistry showed that all the cases were positive for vimentin (Vim), epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), and the ki-67 index was less than 5%, while all the cases of meningeal Ewing sarcoma/pPNET were positive for Vim and CD99, and the ki-67 index was more than 30%. MRI imaging features of MCMs and meningeal Ewing sarcoma/pPNETs were different. Accurate preoperative diagnosis of these two tumours is helpful in implementing a clinical surgical plan and further management. Moreover, imaging combined with pathology can explain the imaging characteristics better.

As ultra-massive multiple-input multiple-output (UM-MIMO) has emerged as a key technology for millimeter-wave and terahertz communications, the spherical wave propagation should be considered for channel modeling. Therefore, it is critical to identify the locations and evolving behaviors of scatterers, i.e., the sources of the spherical wavefronts. In this contribution, a novel space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization (SAGE) based scatterer localization algorithm is proposed, where a large-scale antenna array is divided into multiple sub-arrays. Due to the decreased aperture of each sub-array, plane wave assumption can be applied to estimate the angles of departure/arrival, delays and amplitudes of multipath components (MPCs). Based on the angle variations of MPCs observed at different sub-arrays, the corresponding scatterers can be located. The proposed algorithm is verified in a simulation using a large-scale uniform circular array (UCA) system. Moreover, we apply this algorithm to an indoor measurement campaign conducted at 27-29 GHz in a hall scenario. Dominant scatterers are identified, which can be used for the development of further geometry-based stochastic channel models.

To develop nomograms that combine clinical characteristics, computed tomographic (CT) features and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET (18F-FDG PET) metabolic parameters for individual prediction of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation status and exon 19 deletion mutation and exon 21 point mutation (21 L858R) subtypes in lung adenocarcinoma.In total 124 lung adenocarcinoma patients who underwent EGFR mutation testing and whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT were enrolled. Each patient's clinical characteristics (age, sex, smoking history, etc.), CT features (size, location, margins, etc.) and four metabolic parameters (SUVmax, SUVmean, MTV and TLG) were recorded and analyzed. Logistic regression analyses were performed to screen for significant predictors of EGFR mutation status and subtypes, and these predictors were presented as easy-to-use nomograms.According to the results of multiple regression analysis, three nomograms for individualized prediction of EGFR mutation status and subtypes were constructed. The area under curve values of three nomograms were 0.852 (95% CI, 0.783-0.920), 0.857 (95% CI, 0.778-0.937) and 0.893 (95% CI, 0.819-0.968) of EGFR mutation vs. wild-type, 19 deletion mutation vs. wild-type and 21 L858R vs. wild-type, respectively. Only calcification showed significant differences between the EGFR 19 deletion and 21 L858R mutations.EGFR 21 L858R mutation was more likely to be nonsolid texture with air bronchograms and pleural retraction on CT images. And they were more likely to be associated with lower FDG metabolic activity compared with those wild-types. The sex difference was mainly caused by the 19 deletion mutation, and calcification was more frequent in them.

Preoperative distinction between transitional meningioma and atypical meningioma would aid the selection of appropriate surgical techniques, as well as the prognosis prediction. Here, we aimed to differentiate between these two tumors using radiomic signatures based on preoperative, contrast-enhanced T1-weighted and T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. A total of 141 transitional meningioma and 101 atypical meningioma cases between January 2014 and December 2018 with a histopathologically confirmed diagnosis were retrospectively reviewed. All patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging before surgery. For each patient, 1227 radiomic features were extracted from contrast-enhanced T1-weighted and T2-weighted images each. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis was performed to select the most informative features of different modalities. Subsequently, stepwise multivariate logistic regression was chosen to further select strongly correlated features and build classification models that can distinguish transitional from atypical meningioma. The diagnostic abilities were evaluated by receiver operating characteristic analysis. Furthermore, a nomogram was built by incorporating clinical characteristics, radiological features, and radiomic signatures, and decision curve analysis was used to validate the clinical usefulness of the nomogram. Sex, tumor shape, brain invasion, and four radiomic features differed significantly between transitional meningioma and atypical meningioma. The clinicoradiomic model derived by fusing the above features resulted in the best discrimination ability, with areas under the curves of 0.809 (95% confidence interval, 0.743-0.874) and 0.795 (95% confidence interval, 0.692-0.899) and sensitivity values of 74.0% and 71.4% in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. The clinicoradiomic model demonstrated good performance for the differentiation between transitional and atypical meningioma. It is a quantitative tool that can potentially aid the selection of surgical techniques and the prognosis prediction and can thus be applied in patients with these two meningioma subtypes.

Burr-hole craniostomy (BHC) is considered to be the most effective method for the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH), and middle meningeal artery embolization is a new therapy used in clinical practice in recent years to treat CSDH. However, the optimal therapeutic effect of these 2 procedures is still controversial. This study prospectively designed a modified burr-hole craniostomy (mBHC) with drainage to treat CSDH.A total of 101 patients diagnosed with CSDH from January 2019 to April 2020 were prospectively included in this study. They were divided into BHC and mBHC groups. Among them, 40 selected CSDH patients received mBHC treatment. For comparison, 61 CSDH patients who received BHC treatment were used as the control group. Primary outcomes were hematoma recurrence and postoperative complications. Secondary outcomes included midline recovery, hematoma clearance, operation time, and hospital stay. The Chi-square test was used to compare the 6-month follow-up results between the 2 groups.Among patients treated with mBHC, 39 patients had a good prognosis, and one 87-year-old patient with bilateral hematoma died of postoperative heart failure. Of the patients treated with BHC, 52 patients had good prognoses, and one 53-year-old patient with unilateral hematoma died of postoperative acute intracranial bleeding. During the 6-month follow-up period, no relapse occurred in the patients treated with mBHC, whereas 8 (13%) of the patients treated with BHC relapsed. There was a significant difference in the recurrence rate between the 2 groups (P 0.05). In addition, midline recovery, hematoma clearance rate, operation time, and complications were found to be significantly different statistically (P 0.05), and other characteristics of operation and outcome were not significantly different (P 0.05) between the 2 groups.Modified burr-hole craniostomy has a positive therapeutic effect on patients with CSDH and is more effective than conventional BHC therapy.

Background The usefulness of a dual-energy spectral computed tomography (DESCT)-based nomogram in discriminating between histological grades of colorectal adenocarcinoma (CRAC) is unclear. This study aimed to develop such a nomogram and assess its ability to preoperatively discriminate between histological grades in CRAC patients. Methods Primary tumors monochromatic CT value, iodine concentration (IC) value, and effective atomic number (Eff-Z) in the arterial (AP) and venous phases (VP) were retrospectively compared between patients with high-grade (n=65) and low-grade (n=108) CRAC who underwent preoperative abdominal DESCT. Univariate analysis was used to compare the DESCT parameters and clinical factors between these two patient groups. Statistically significant features in the univariate analysis were included in the multivariate logistic regression model to identify the indicators for building a nomogram that could discriminate between histological grades in CRAC patients. The clinical usefulness of the nomogram and its value for predicting overall survival were statistically evaluated. Results The logistic regression analysis showed that age, clinical T stage, clinical N stage, and IC values in AP and VP were significant independent predictors for high-grade CRAC. A quantitative nomogram developed based on these predictors showed excellent performance for discriminating between the histological grades, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.886 and excellent agreement in the calibration curve. The Kaplan-Meier curve for overall survival showed that our nomogram identified a significant difference between the high- and low-risk groups [hazard ratio (HR), 2.188; 95% CI, 1.072-4.465; P=0.027). Conclusions This study presents a nomogram that incorporates DESCT parameters and clinical factors and can potentially be used as a clinical tool for individual preoperative prediction of CRAC histological grade.

Amine-borane complexes have been extensively studied as hydrogen storage materials. Herein, we report a new amine-borane system featuring a reversible dehydrogenation and regeneration at room temperature. In addition to high purity H2 , the reaction between ethylenediamine bisborane (EDAB) and ethylenediamine (ED) leads to unique boron-carbon-nitrogen 5-membered rings in the dehydrogenation product where one boron is tricoordinated by three nitrogen atoms. Owing to the unique cyclic structure, the dehydrogenation product can be efficiently converted back to EDAB by NaBH4 and H2 O at room temperature. This finding could lead to the discovery of new amine boranes with potential usage as hydrogen storage materials.

Cationic guar is an important polysaccharide used as a hair conditioning agent in personal care products. In this article, we report streaming potential data demonstrating its behaviour as it interacts electrostatically with hair. Several cationic guar variants with different molecular weights (MWs) and charge densities (CDs) were examined.All experiments were carried out with a custom-designed streaming potential instrument so that in situ, real-time data were monitored during the treatment of a hair plug with aqueous solutions of cationic guar and subsequent treatment with anionic surfactants-sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) and cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB)-commonly found in contemporary shampoo formulations.The MW of the cationic guar variants plays an integral role in determining the thickness of the adsorbed polymer layer on the hair surface while CD influences the zeta potential. Data were also generated for the treatment of hair with a cationic flexible polymer (polyquaternium-28) and cationic conditioning surfactant (behentrimonium chloride) to provide a frame of reference. The deposition behaviour on hair of high MW cationic guar variants is distinct from these conventional molecules in terms of its electrokinetic properties. We also examined the electrokinetic behaviour of cationic guar on hair types from different racial backgrounds. While the cationic guar treatment yielded similar results for the different hair types, anionic surfactant treatment resulted in quicker sorption and desorption from African, European 65% grey, and Mulatto hair as compared to Chinese, European dark brown, and Indian hair.We introduce an in situ technique for measuring the dynamic sorption/desorption of charged molecules on the surface of human hair. Evaluation of a series of cationic guar species revealed varying behaviour depending on the MW and CD of the polysaccharide. Our data also demonstrate differences in the desorption properties of typical shampoo surfactants for hair from diverse racial backgrounds.Le guar cationique est un polysaccharide important utilisé comme conditionneur capillaire dans les produits cosmétiques. Dans ce rapport, nous démontrons l'utilisation de la technique du potentiel de streaming pour étudier comment le guar cationique interagit électrostatiquement avec les cheveux. Plusieurs variantes del guar cationique avec différents poids moléculaires et densités de charge ont été examinés. MÉTHODES: Nous avons utilisé un instrument de potentiel de streaming pour les expériences. Les études ont été réalisées en temps réel pour surveiller le traitement de cheveu avec des solutions aqueuses de guar cationique suivi d'un traitement ultérieur avec tensioactifs anioniques comment le sulfate de laureth de sodium et le cocamidopropyle bétaïne, des ingrédients généralement trouvés dans les formulations de shampooing. RÉSULTATS: Le poids moléculaire des variants du guar cationique joue un rôle intégral dans la détermination l'épaisseur de la couche de polymère adsorbée sur la surface des cheveux tandis que le densité de charge influence le potentiel zêta. Des données ont également été générées pour le traitement des cheveux avec un polymère flexible (polyquaternium-28) et tensioactif de conditionnement cationique (behentrimonium chlorure) pour fournir un cadre de référence. Le comportement de dépôt sur les cheveux des variants de guar cationiques à poids moléculaire élevé est distinct de ces molécules conventionnelles en termes de ses propriétés électrocinétiques. Nous avons également examiné le comportement électrocinétique de guar cationique sur des types de cheveux de différents milieux raciaux. Le traitement avec le guar cationique a donné des résultats similaires pour les différents types de cheveux. En contraste avec ceci, le traitement avec le tensioactif anionique a entraîné une sorption et une désorption plus rapides de cheveux africains, de cheveux européens (65% gris) et de cheveux mulâtres en comparaison à les cheveux chinois, européens et indiens.Nous introduisons une technique in situ pour mesurer la sorption et la désorption dynamique de molécules chargées à la surface des cheveux humains. L’évaluation d'une série des espèces de guar cationiques ont révélé un comportement variable en fonction du poids moléculaires et densités de charge de le polysaccharide. Nos données démontrent également des différences dans les propriétés de désorption de tensioactifs de shampooing typiques pour les cheveux de diverses origines raciales.

Patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in lung adenocarcinoma can benefit from targeted therapy. However, noninvasively determination of EGFR mutation status before targeted therapy remains a challenge. This study constructed a nomogram based on a combination of radiomics features with the clinical and radiological features to predict the EGFR mutation status. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and Wilcoxon test were used for feature selection. Decision tree (DT), logistic regression (LR), and support vector machine (SVM) classifiers were used for radiomics model building. Used the clinical and radiological features establish clinical-radiology (C-R) model. The C-R model with the best radiomics model to establish clinical-radiological-radiomics (C-R-R) model. The predictive performance of the model was evaluated by ROC and calibration curves, and the clinical usefulness was assessed by a decision curve analysis. The current study showed that twelve radiomics features were significantly associated with EGFR mutations. The best radiomics signature model was obtained using the SVM classifier. The C-R-R model had the best distinguishing ability for predicting the EGFR mutation status, with an AUC of 0.849 (95% CI, 0.805-0.893) and 0.835 (95% CI, 0.761-0.909) in the development and validation cohorts, respectively. Our study provides a non-invasive C-R-R model that combines CT-based radiomics features with clinical and radiological features, which can provide useful image-based biological information for targeted therapy candidates.

The internal ultrafine structure of human hair was explored with atomic force microscopy (AFM). Cross sections of hair were prepared by a proprietary technique that provided a smooth surface for effective imaging in contact-mode AFM. Investigations of virgin hair revealed structural details of cortical and cuticle cells consistent with previous transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies, in addition to the identification of a boundary region surrounding macrofibrils of the cortex. The effects of bleaching and solvent extraction on the internal structure of hair were also investigated. In the cuticle cell, bleaching causes the most damage to the endocuticle and cell membrane complex, evident by erosion of these components. Similarly, bleaching results in crevices, cracks, and asperities in the cortex of hair. In addition, the cortical cell membrane complex appears compromised along with either lipid or protein structures at the outer boundaries of macrofibrils. In delipidated hair, most structural components of the fiber appear intact with the exception of an overall swollen nature of the various morphological components.

To analyze the relationship between dual-energy spectral CT and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation status in patients with lung adenocarcinoma. The quantitative parameters of spectral CT were analyzed in 208 patients with lung adenocarcinoma. The quantitative parameters including CT40keV and CT70keV values, effective atomic number (Zeff), iodine concentration (IC), water concentration (WC), and the slope of the spectral curve (λ HU) were calculated. Statistical analysis was used to determine the clinical characteristics and quantitative parameters for the diagnosis of EGFR-mutation status. The ROC curves were used to calculate diagnostic efficiency. Sex (p = 0.027) and smoking history (p = 0.019) differed significantly according to the EGFR-mutation status. Spectral CT quantitative parameters (CT40keV and CT70keV values, λ HU, Zeff and IC) differed significantly between the EGFR mutant and the EGFR wild-type groups (p 0.05). ROC curve analysis revealed the combination of the significantly different quantitative parameters provided the best diagnostic performance for determining the EGFR-mutation status (AUC: 76.0%) in the AP, while the AUC during the VP was 75.6%. The quantitative parameters of dual-energy spectral CT have potential value for identifying the EGFR-mutation status.

Background: Prediction of brain invasion pre-operatively rather than postoperatively would contribute to the selection of surgical techniques, predicting meningioma grading and prognosis. Here, we aimed to predict the risk of brain invasion in meningioma pre-operatively using a nomogram by incorporating both radiomic features and clinical factors. Methods: A total of 1728 patients from two centres were diagnosed with meningiomas (including WHO grades I, II, and III) by histopathological examination. Radiomic features were extracted from the T1C and T2 modalities. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator was used to select the most informative features of different modalities. Subsequently, the support vector machine algorithm was used to predict the risk of brain invasion. Furthermore, a nomogram was constructed by incorporating radiomics signature and clinical risk factors, and decision curve analysis was used to validate the clinical usefulness of the nomogram. Findings: Sixteen features were significantly correlated with brain invasion. The clinicoradiomic model derived from the fusing MRI sequences and sex resulted in the best discrimination ability for risk prediction of brain invasion, with AUCs of 0•857 (95% CI, 0•831-0•887) and 0•819 (95% CI, 0•775-0•863) and sensitivities of 72•8% (95% CI, 67•3%-78•4%) and 90•1% (95% CI, 83•4%-96•9%) in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. Interpretation: The clinicoradiomic model incorporating the fusing radiomic features and sex showed good performance and high sensitivity for risk prediction of brain invasion in meningioma, and can be applied in patients with meningiomas.
