Abstract Acer fabri is an excellent color-leaf tree species, with high ornamental value. Low temperatures are known to limit the growth and geographical distribution of A. fabri. The molecular mechanism of A. fabri in response to low-temperature stress was rarely reported. To understand the molecular mechanism of A. fabri in response to low-temperature stress, relevant physiological changes were identified and the transcriptome sequencing was conducted under different stress durations. The results showed that the proline, the soluble sugar (SS) and the soluble protein (SP) content increased in A. fabri leaves under low-temperature stress, while the peroxidase (POD) and activating superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity increased first and then decreased. It was also found by the OPLS-DA analysis that SOD is the most important physiological indicator of A. fabri in response to low-temperature stress. By transcriptome sequencing, a total of 56,732 genes were identified, including 832 transcription factors (TFs). Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were significantly enriched in metabolic pathways, phytohormone signaling, and plant mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways. Moreover, the analysis of gene co-expression networks, specifically weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), indicates that Af0048792 and Af0026061 could be significant in the response to stress from low temperatures. Furthermore, it was observed that NAC (Af0033429) and MIKC (Af0004917) might have interactions with Af0048792, and MIKC (Af0004917) may additionally interact with Af0026061. These findings could enhance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of A. fabri in response to low-temperature stress.

Abstract Background Endoscopic gallbladder-preserving cholecystolithotomy (EGPC) has become an alternative option for treating cholecystolithiasis. However, developing a new method of EGPC in which the gallbladder wall is not damaged remains a challenge. This study introduced a new EGPC method called endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) combined with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), which preserves the integrity of the gallbladder wall in the treatment of cholecystolithiasis complicated with choledocholithiasis. Methods In total, six patients (aged 23–72 years, 3 males and 3 females, Han ethnicity) who had large gallbladder stones (diameter ≥ 1 cm) complicated with common bile duct (CBD) stones and who underwent ERCP combined with ESWL at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from July 2022 to December 2022 were enrolled. The patients’ clinical characteristics, endoscopic treatment and follow-up data were analyzed. A paired t test was performed to compare the differences in the main serological indicators before and after EGPC. Results Of the six patients, five completed EGPC, and one failed due to intolerable abdominal pain during ESWL and was subsequently transferred to surgery. With respect to post-EGPC adverse events, one patient developed mild post-ERCP pancreatitis, and no other adverse events occurred. Both the technical success rate and clinical success rate of ERCP combined with ESWL were 83.3% and the incidence of adverse events was 16.7%. The six patients were followed up for an average of 24 months, during which only one patient experienced a recurrence of gallbladder stones at the 3-month follow-up, but no gallbladder stones were found at the 6-month follow-up after oral administration of ursodeoxycholic acid. Conclusions ERCP combined with ESWL is a potentially safe and effective treatment for large gallbladder stones. Abstract Background The present study aimed to explore the threshold-effect association of serum ferritin levels with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and prediabetes mellitus in Chinese adults. Methods A total of 8365 people from CHNS a cross-sectional survey in 2009 were finally included. The biomarker data, including major cardiovascular biomarkers and important nutrition biomarkers were collected. The association of serum ferritin levels with T2DM and prediabetes mellitus were assessed by using restricted cubic spline function combined with multivariate logistic regression model. Results The mean age of the study subjects was 50.3 years, and 46.5% were men. The risk of T2DM and prediabetes mellitus increased when the ferritin level was greater than 140 ng/ml. Members of the phylum Bacteroidetes play a key role in the marine carbon cycle through their degradation of polysaccharides via carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) and polysaccharide utilization loci (PULs). The discovery of novel CAZymes and PULs is important for our understanding of the marine carbon cycle. In this study, we isolated and identified a potential new genus of the family Catalimonadaceae, in the phylum Bacteroidetes, from the southwest Indian Ocean. Strain TK19036, the type strain of the new genus, is predicted to encode CAZymes that are relatively abundant in marine Bacteroidetes genomes. Tunicatimonas pelagia NBRC 107804T, Porifericola rhodea NBRC 107748T and Catalinimonas niigatensis NBRC 109829T, which exhibit 16 S rRNA similarities exceeding 90% with strain TK19036, and belong to the same family, were selected as reference strains. These organisms possess a highly diverse repertoire of CAZymes and PULs, which may enable them to degrade a wide range of polysaccharides, especially pectin and alginate. In addition, some secretory CAZymes in strain TK19036 and its relatives were predicted to be transported by type IX secretion system (T9SS). Further, to the best of our knowledge, we propose the first reported “hybrid” PUL targeting alginates in T. pelagia NBRC 107804T. Our findings provide new insights into the polysaccharide degradation capacity of marine Bacteroidetes, and suggest that T9SS may play a more important role in this process than previously believed.

Abstract Background Overdose mortality increased substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is unclear to what extent the COVID-19 mortality had contributed to this increase at the neighborhood level. Methods This was an ecological study based on New York City United Hospital Fund (NYC UHF) neighborhood-level data from 2019 to 2021, split into two time-windows: pre-COVID (2019) and during-COVID (2020 and 2021). Linear regression models were used to estimate the effect of cumulative COVID-19 mortality on the increase in drug overdose mortality from the pre-COVD to during-COVID periods at the neighborhood level, with and without adjusting for neighborhood characteristics. Results Drug overdose mortality rate increased from 21.3 to 33.4 deaths per 100,000 person-years across NYC UHF neighborhoods from pre-COVID to during-COVID. For each additional COVID-19 death per 1,000 person-years at the neighborhood level, the increase in drug overdose mortality rose 2.4 (95% CI: 1.7, 3.3) times. Furthermore, neighborhoods with a higher percentage of Hispanic residents, a higher percentage of single-person households, and a higher percentage of residents with health insurance experienced significantly larger increases in drug overdose mortality. In contrast, neighborhoods with a higher percentage of residents aged 75 and older had a smaller increase in drug overdose mortality. Conclusions NYC neighborhoods with higher cumulative COVID-19 mortality experienced a greater increase in drug overdose mortality during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract Background Cannabis use has been causally linked to violent behaviors in experimental and case studies, but its association with homicide victimization has not been rigorously assessed through epidemiologic research. Methods We performed a case-control analysis using two national data systems. Cases were homicide victims from the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS), and controls were participants from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). While the NVDRS contained toxicological testing data on cannabis use, the NSDUH only collected self-reported data, and thus the potential misclassification in the self-reported data needed to be corrected. We took a data fusion approach by concatenating the NSDUH with a third data system, the National Roadside Survey of Alcohol and Drug Use by Drivers (NRS), which collected toxicological testing and self-reported data on cannabis use for drivers. The data fusion approach provided multiple imputations (MIs) of toxicological testing results on cannabis use for the participants in the NSDUH, which were then used in the case-control analysis. Bootstrap was used to obtain valid statistical inference. Results The analyses revealed that cannabis use was associated with 3.55-fold (95% CI: 2.75–4.35) increased odds of homicide victimization. Alcohol use, being Black, male, aged 21–34 years, and having less than a high school education were also significantly associated with increased odds of homicide victimization. Conclusions Cannabis use is a major risk factor for homicide victimization. The data fusion with MI method is useful in integrative data analysis for harmonizing measures between different data sources.

Abstract Salt stress is one of the most important abiotic stress factors limiting crop production. Therefore, improving the stress resistance of seeds is very important for crop growth. Our previous studies have shown that using microcapsules encapsulating bacteria (Pontibacter actiniarum DSM 19842) as seed coating for wheat can alleviate salt stress. In this study, the genes and pathways involved in the response of wheat to salt stress were researched further. The results showed that compared with the control, the coating can improve osmotic stress and decrease oxidative damage by increasing the content of proline (29.1%), the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) (94.2%), peroxidase (POD) (45.7%) and catalase (CAT) (3.3%), reducing the content of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) (39.8%) and malondialdehyde (MDA) (45.9%). In addition, ribonucleic acid (RNA) sequencing data showed that 7628 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, and 4426 DEGs up-regulated, 3202 down-regulated in the coated treatment. Many DEGs related to antioxidant enzymes were up-regulated, indicating that coating can promote the expression of antioxidant enzyme-related genes and alleviate oxidative damage under salt stress. The differential gene expression analysis demonstrated up-regulation of 27 genes and down-regulation of 20 genes. Transcription factor families, mostly belonging to bHLH, MYB, B3, NAC, and WRKY. Overall, this seed coating can promote the development of sustainable agriculture in saline soil.

Abstract Clade A type 2C protein phosphatases (PP2Cs) are crucial components of the abscisic acid (ABA) signaling pathway. Research on clade A PP2Cs has focused more on their roles related to ABA signaling and stress responses than on the molecular mechanisms mediating their effects on plant growth and grain yield. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is an important food crop worldwide. We previously determined that OsPP2C49, which encodes a rice clade A PP2C family member, negatively controls rice responses to drought, salt, and high-temperature stresses. In this study, we investigated the regulatory effects of OsPP2C49 on ABA responses and rice grain yield. By analyzing potential interactions with core ABA components, including pyrabactin resistance 1 (PYR1)/PYR1-like (PYL)/regulatory component of the ABA receptor (RCAR) and stress-activated protein kinases (SAPKs), we confirmed that OsPP2C49 is involved in the ABA signaling pathway. OsPP2C49 overexpression led to decreased ABA sensitivity and increased rice grain yield; the opposite phenotypes were observed in the ospp2c49 knockout mutants. Therefore, OsPP2C49 negatively regulates ABA responses, but positively modulates rice grain yield. Furthermore, we found that OsPP2C49 can interact with and dephosphorylate five OsSAPKs in vitro. Unlike OsPP2C49, these OsSAPKs positively modulate ABA responsiveness, but negatively affect rice yield. These findings indicate that OsPP2C49 may partially regulate ABA responses and rice grain production by dephosphorylating OsSAPKs. This study preliminarily explored the molecular basis of the regulatory effects of OsPP2C49 on rice plant growth and grain yield.

In China and other developing countries, some bicycle riders exhibit retrograde behaviour, which affects the riding safety of normal cyclists. The effect of retrograde behaviour on visual search and cycling behaviours of normal cyclists is investigated and quantified in this study. First, cyclists are instructed to wear an SMI iView ETG head-mounted mobile eye tracker and a mobile phone equipped with a Global Positioning System real-time location monitoring function to cycle on a road to obtain the times of fixation, saccade and blink, as well as the pupil diameter, gaze position and velocity in normal and retrograde conditions. Subsequently, the effect of retrograde behaviour on the attention of normal cyclists is analysed using three indexes: proportion of fixation time, coefficient of variation of pupil diameter and area of interest. Then, the effect of cycling behaviour is analysed using three indexes: the cycling trajectory, the velocity at three stages and the coefficient of variation of velocity. Finally, polynomial regression analysis is performed to analyse the visual and cycling behaviour impact indexes under the retrograde condition. The results show that retrograde behaviour significantly affects the vision and cycling behaviour of normal cyclists and that the two indexes are positively correlated.

Abstract Background FLNC gene variants have predominantly been reported in adult populations with cardiomyopathies, and early-onset cases are less common. The genotype–phenotype relationship indicates that dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is often associated with FLNC truncating variants. Methods We conducted a comprehensive genetic analysis using next generation sequencing (NGS) to identify FLNC variants in patients with cardiovascular conditions. Detailed phenotypic and variant analyses were performed to characterize the clinical features and genetic alterations. Minigene assays and structural modeling were used to investigate the pathogenicity caused by the identified variants. Results In a cohort of 58 patients, novel heterozygous FLNC variants, c.3962A > T (p.Glu1321Val) and c.7543C > T (p.Leu2515Phe), were identified in patients presenting with dilated and mixed restrictive/hypertrophic cardiomyopathies, respectively. The c.3962A > T variant disrupted normal splicing, as demonstrated through the splicing prediction tool and minigene studies, further emphasizing its pathogenic potential. Conclusion For missense variants of FLNC in patients with DCM, the splicing effect of the variant should be carefully checked. Early detection and intervention are crucial given the high risk of sudden cardiac death and severe cardiac complications.

Abstract Concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs) have been increasingly utilized in engineering due to their excellent mechanical properties. Ensuring a solid bond between a steel tube and concrete is essential for optimizing their synergistic effect. This study introduces an internally welded steel bar structure within the inner wall of a steel tube to enhance the bond properties at the connection interface. The influence of various configurations of steel bars welded to the inner surface of the tube on the bond strength is investigated considering the impact of vibration on the load-bearing capacity of the component. This study comprises two groups of specimens, one with vibration and one without vibration, for a total of ten specimens. Each group included CFST members with five distinct internal welded steel bar structures. The experimental results, including load–displacement curves and strain data of the steel tube, were used to assess the impact of the internal welded steel bar configurations on the steel–concrete interface. The sliding process is described by correlating test data with curves and observed phenomena. To comprehensively compare the effects of structural dimensions on the bonding and slipping properties of the welded bars, finite element simulations replicating the experimental conditions were carried out using ABAQUS software, and the simulation results agreed with the experimental observations. The study demonstrated that incorporating internal welded steel bars substantially enhances the bond strength of steel pipe–concrete interfaces. While vibration weakens the bond strength in CFST members, internal welded steel bars mitigate this effect. These findings improve the structural performance of CFST structures and their resilience to external vibrations.

Ecosystems play a pivotal role in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing indispensable and resilient ecosystem services (ESs). However, the limited analysis of spatiotemporal heterogeneity often restricts the recognition of ESs’ roles in attaining SDGs and landscape planning. We selected 183 counties in the Sichuan Province as the study area and mapped 10 SDGs and 7 ESs from 2000 to 2020. We used correlation analysis, principal component analysis, Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression model, and self-organizing maps to reveal the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of the impacts of the bundle of ESs on the SDGs and to develop spatial planning and management strategies. The results showed that (1) SDGs were improved in all counties, with SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) exhibiting poor performance. Western Sichuan demonstrated stronger performance in environment-related SDGs in the Sichuan Province, while the Sichuan Basin showed better progress in socio-economic-related SDGs; (2) habitat quality, carbon sequestration, air pollution removal, and soil retention significantly influenced the development of 9 SDGs; (3) supporting, regulating, and provisioning service bundles have persistent and stable spatiotemporal heterogeneity effects on SDG1, SDG8, SDG11, SDG13, and SDG15. These findings substantiate the need for integrated management of multiple ESs and facilitate the regional achievement of SDGs in geographically intricate areas.

Study region: The largest lake in China's Yellow River Basin, Ulansuhai. Study focus: After implementing the optimal noise reduction strategies based on wavelet transform for the high-frequency monitoring data, hybrid models coupling random forests, support vector machines, and artificial neural networks were employed to simulate the dissolved oxygen in the lake during both the open-water and ice-covered periods. The optimal hybrid model for each period was selected through extensive analysis, and the shapley additive explanations method was utilized to quantify the contribution of feature variables to the results. New hydrological insight for the region: The results revealed MAE, RMSE, and NSE values of 0.76, 1.01, and 0.92 for WT-RF, and 0.42, 0.55, and 0.84 for WT-SVM. They represent the optimal hybrid models for the open-water and ice-covered periods, respectively. The SHAP analysis showed that water temperature, blue-green algae, pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, and chlorophyll.a exhibited significant importance in the WT-RF model, in that order. BGA and Chl.a synergistically promoted the increase in DO levels during the open-water period. For the WT-SVM model, Chl.a, BGA, Tur, and Temp exhibited significant contributions to the simulation results in that order. However, only BGA was able to enhance DO levels during the ice-covered period. As seasons change, shifts in key water environment factors affecting DO reveal the complexity of lake ecosystems in a cold and arid region.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a 30-amino acid intestinal insulin-stimulating factor, which is mainly secreted by L cells in the distal ileum and colon. It has various physiological functions, such as promoting insulin secretion and synthesis, stimulating β-cell proliferation, inducing islet regeneration, inhibiting β-cell apoptosis and glucagon release, delaying gastric emptying and controlling appetite, etc. It plays a role through a specific GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) distributed in many organs or tissues and participates in the regulation of glucose homeostasis in the body. GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) has the similar physiological function of GLP-1. Because of its structural difference from natural GLP-1, it is not easy to be degraded by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), thus prolonging the action time. GLP-1RAs have been recognized as a new type of hypoglycemic drugs and widely used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Compared with other non-insulin hypoglycemic drugs, it can not only effectively reduce blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), but also protect cardiovascular system, nervous system and kidney function without causing hypoglycemia and weight gain. Therefore, GLP-1RAs has good application prospects and potential for further development.

Titania (TiO2) is one of promising photo catalysts for its high ability to resistant photo corrosion and environmental friendliness, but its photocatalytic activity is too low to be used in industry. To find an approach to solve this problem, graphene oxide (GO), tungsten trioxide (WO3) and TiO2 composite with hollow mesoporous structure was prepared by a two-step spray drying method. The composite was used as raw material to constitute a membrane onto ITO glass to form a membrane photo-anode. In this way, its photo-electrocatalytic property was tested. The morphology, crystal phase, microstructure and specific surface area of the composite were characterized by SEM, XRD, TEM and BET, respectively. The surface potential distribution and optical property of the anode were measured by a Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy and a Fs-5 Steady-State Fluorescence Spectrometer, respectively. The forbidden bandwidth of the GO-WO3/TiO2 composite is 2.30 eV, which is much lower than that of the WO3/TiO2 composite, 2.92 eV. When the content of GO in the anode is around 1 wt%, its light absorption ability is the best among all the anodes with different contents of GO, and its photocatalytic ability to degrade methyl orange is the strongest as our experiments concerned. These findings indicate that the addition of GO into the WO3/TiO2 composite can improve its photo-electrocatalytic property. The construction of membrane photo-anode is an efficient approach to solve the problem of the recovery and secondary utilization of nanoscale powder in water treatment.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of compound probiotics on the performance, egg quality, biochemical parameters and intestinal morphology of laying hens. A total of 180 healthy 200-day-old Hyline Brown laying hens with similar initial laying rate (87.5% ± 0.2%) were randomly divided into the control group and the treatment group. Each group included 6 replicates and each replicate included 15 laying hens. The control group was provided a basal diet, while the treatment group received the basal diet supplemented with compound probiotics. The experiment lasted for 52 days. GM1 gangliosidosis is an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder caused by defects in the beta-galactosidase (GLB1) gene, which results in accumulation of GM1 gangliosides and related glycoconjugates in the lysosomes leading to lysosomal swelling, cellular damage, and organ dysfunction. We generated SDQLCHi080-A cell line from a patient with GM1 gangliosidosis carrying mutations of c.523C > T and c.574T > C > T in the GLB1 gene. The cell line exhibited typical iPSC morphology, expressed high levels of stemness markers, exhibited normal karyotype, and has the capability to differentiate into three germ layers. This cell line could provide a useful GM1 gangliosidosis model in vitro for further study.

Probiotics hold great potential for treating metabolic diseases such as obesity. Given the complex and multifactorial nature of these diseases, research on probiotic combination with multiple targets has become popular. Here, we choose four obesity-related targets to perform high-throughput screening, including pancreatic lipase activity, bile salt hydrolase activity, glucagon-like peptide-1 secretion and adipocyte differentiation. Introduction: To assess the association of race and ethnicity with self-reported personal protective equipment shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic among healthcare workers in New York. Methods: The COVID-19 Healthcare Personnel Study of New York was a prospective cohort study of HCWs with baseline data collected in April 2020 and follow-up data collected in February 2021. Multivariable logistic regression modeling was used to estimate the adjusted OR and 95% CIs of personal protective equipment shortages associated with race and ethnic minority status. Results: Healthcare workers of racial and ethnic minority status (n=361) were more likely than non-Hispanic White respondents (n=1,858) to report having experienced personal protective equipment shortages in the last week at baseline (36.0% vs 27.5%; p=0.001) and follow-up (13.6% vs 8.8%; p=0.005). With adjustment for demographic and clinical characteristics, racial and ethnic minority status was associated with 44% and 49% increased odds of experiencing PPE shortages at baseline (adjusted OR=1.44; 95% CI=1.10, 1.88) and follow up (adjusted OR=1.49; 95% CI=1.01, 2.21), respectively. Conclusions: Healthcare workers of racial and ethnic minority status in New York experienced more pervasive personal protective equipment shortages than their non-Hispanic White counterparts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract Constant-frequency ultrasonic treatment helped to improve seed germination. However, variable-frequency ultrasonic treatment on maize seed germination were rarely reported. In this study, maize seeds were exposed to 20–40 kHz ultrasonic for 40 s. The germination percentage and radicle length of maize seeds increased by 10.4% and 230.5%. Ultrasonic treatment also significantly increased the acid protease, α-amylase, and β-amylase contents by 96.4%, 73.8%, and 49.1%, respectively. Transcriptome analysis showed that 11,475 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found in the ultrasonic treatment and control groups, including 5,695 upregulated and 5,780 downregulated. Metabolic pathways and transcription factors (TFs) were significantly enriched among DEGs after ultrasonic treatment. This included metabolism and genetic information processing, that is, ribosome, proteasome, and pyruvate metabolism, sesquiterpenoid, triterpenoid, and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, and oxidative phosphorylation, as well as transcription factors in the NAC, MYB, bHLH, WRKY, AP2, bZIP, and ARF families. Variable-frequency ultrasonic treatment increased auxin, gibberellin, and salicylic acid by 5.5%, 37.3%, and 28.9%, respectively. Abscisic acid significantly decreased by 33.2%. The related DEGs were upregulated and downregulated to varying degrees. Seed germination under the abiotic stress conditions of salt stress (NaCl solution), drought (PEG solution), and waterlogging (water-saturated sand bed) under ultrasonic treatment were promoted, radicle length was significantly increased by 30.2%, 30.5%, and 27.3%, respectively; and germination percentage by 14.8%, 20.1%, and 21.6%, respectively. These findings provide new insight into the mechanisms through ultrasonic to promote maize seed germination.

Abstract Redox imbalance is reported to play a pivotal role in tumorigenesis, cancer development, and drug resistance. Severe oxidative damage is a general consequence of cancer cell responses to treatment and may cause cancer cell death or severe adverse effects. To maintain their longevity, cancer cells can rescue redox balance and enter a state of resistance to anticancer drugs. Therefore, targeting redox signalling pathways has emerged as an attractive and prospective strategy for enhancing the efficacy of anticancer drugs and decreasing their adverse effects. Over the past few decades, natural products (NPs) have become an invaluable source for developing new anticancer drugs due to their high efficacy and low toxicity. Increasing evidence has demonstrated that many NPs exhibit remarkable antitumour effects, whether used alone or as adjuvants, and are emerging as effective approaches to enhance sensitivity and decrease the adverse effects of conventional cancer therapies by regulating redox balance. Among them are several novel anticancer drugs based on NPs that have entered clinical trials. In this review, we summarize the synergistic anticancer effects and related redox mechanisms of the combination of NPs with conventional anticancer drugs. We believe that NPs targeting redox regulation will represent promising novel candidates and provide prospects for cancer treatment in the future. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Background Dietary supplement (DS) use is common and increasing among older adults, though much data available on use frequencies are from surveys and performed cross-sectionally. This paper sought to assess the frequency and pattern of dietary supplement use among older adults over time. Methods A secondary analysis of data from the AAA LongROAD study, a longitudinal prospective cohort study of older adult drivers, using data from baseline and the first two years of follow up included a total of 2990 drivers aged 65–79 years recruited at five study sites across the US from July 2015 to March 2017. Participants underwent baseline and annual evaluations, which included a “brown bag” medication review. DS were identified and categorized according to type and key components. Prevalence and pattern of DS use over time and relationship to demographics were measured with frequency and Chi squared analyses. Results 84% of participants took at least one dietary supplement during the 2-year study period, and 55% of participants continually reported use. DS accounted for approximately 30% of the total pharmacologic-pill burden in all years. Objectives: In the refrigeration industry, thin-walled copper tubes are crucial heat exchange devices, and during their drawing production process, the floating core head plays a significant role in the quality of the copper tubes. With the rapid development of chemical vapor deposition(CVD) diamond coating technology and its wide application in the field of molds, the DC arc plasma injection method is used to produce diamond-coated floating core heads to improve the quality of copper tube drawing and extend the service life of floating core heads. Methods: Using a deposition method and a rotating device design, the diamond coating was uniformly deposited on the surface of cemented carbide floating core heads by the DC arc plasma injection method. The surface roughness, morphology, mass uniformity, and film-base adhesion of the coating were tested and analyzed using a white light interferometer, scanning electron microscope, Raman spectrometer, and indentation method. The prepared diamond-coated floating core head was applied to a high-precision copper pipe production line, and the application effect was compared with that of a traditional cemented carbide floating core head. Results: SEM and Raman spectrum analysis showed that the diamond coating quality at each position of the floating core head was superior. The average thickness of the diamond in the cylindrical section of the floating core head was 13.3 μm, and in the fixed diameter section, it was 13.7 μm. At a room temperature of 20 ℃ and a relative humidity of 40%, with a filtering cutoff wavelength of 250 μm and a scanning area of 100 μm × 100 μm, the average surface roughness (Ra) of the polished diamond coating was 76.4 nm. Under the indentation test condition of loading to 1 000 N and holding constant force for 3 seconds at a fixed loading rate of 20.0 N/s, the average distance from the diamond coating shedding position to the indentation center was 287.9 μm. The prepared diamond-coated floating core head was then applied to the high-precision copper pipe production line. Compared with the cemented carbide floating core head, the following findings were observed: (1) Due to the excellent finish and self-lubrication characteristics of the diamond coating, the maintenance frequency of the floating core head decreased from once per frame to once every 20 frames, reducing labor intensity significantly. (2) Due to the excellent wear resistance of the diamond coating, the size of the fixed diameter section of the core head remained constant, ensuring that the wall thickness of the copper tube did not vary, therefore improving product consistency. (3) The service life of the diamond-coated floating core head was about 15 times that of the cemented carbide core head. Conclusions: The DC arc plasma injection method can uniformly deposit high quality diamond coating on the surface of cemented carbide floating core heads, reducing labor intensity effectively, ensuring consistency in copper tube production, and extending the service life of the core head in practical applications. Others: With the continuous progress of DC arc plasma jet deposition diamond coating technology, the quality of diamond-coated floating core heads will further improve. Diamond coatings can gradually be applied to various internal molds, such as fixed core heads and threaded cores. When used with diamond coated outer molds, these internal molds can replace traditional cemented carbide molds, reducing mold costs and labor costs, and improving the drawing quality of pipes significantly. This approach will help achieve the goal of reducing costs and increasing the efficiency in the copper, aluminum, stainless steel and other related industries.

Objective The object of this study was to investigate the effect of replacing soybean meal with Clostridium autoethanogenum protein (CAP) in broiler diets on growth performance, blood indicators, antioxidant capacity, and immune function. Methods A total of 180 Arbor Acres broilers were randomly divided into three treatments, each treatment with six replicates and 10 broilers per replicate for a 42-day feeding trial. The control group (CON) was fed corn-soybean meal based diet. The CAP-1 and CAP-2 groups were considered to use CAP to replace 25% or 50% of soybean meal in the diet, respectively. The average daily gain and average daily feed intake of broilers at 1 to 21 d, 22 to 42 d, and 1 to 42 d were measured, and the feed conversion ratio was calculated. At the 42nd day of age, two broilers with similar weights and fasted for 12 h were selected in each replicate for blood collection from the brachial wing vein. The blood routine indicators, serum biochemical indicators, serum antioxidant capacity, and immunoglobulin content of broiler chickens were measured. Abstract Stable vortex lattices are basic dynamical patterns which have been demonstrated in physical systems including superconductor physics, Bose-Einstein condensates, hydrodynamics and optics. Vortex-antivortex (VAV) ensembles can be produced, self-organizing into the respective polar lattices. However, these structures are in general highly unstable due to the strong VAV attraction. Here, we demonstrate that multiple optical VAV clusters nested in the propagating coherent field can crystallize into patterns which preserve their lattice structures over distance up to several Rayleigh lengths. To explain this phenomenon, we present a model for effective interactions between the vortices and antivortices at different lattice sites. The observed VAV crystallization is a consequence of the globally balanced VAV couplings. As the crystallization does not require the presence of nonlinearities and appears in free space, it may find applications to high-capacity optical communications and multiparticle manipulations. Our findings suggest possibilities for constructing VAV complexes through the orbit-orbit couplings, which differs from the extensively studied spin-orbit couplings.

Abstract We study properties of the innermost photonsphere in the regular compact star background. We take the traceless energy–momentum tensor and dominant energy conditions. In the regular compact star background, we analytically obtain an upper bound on the radius of the innermost photonsphere as $$r_{\gamma }^{in}\leqslant \frac{12}{5}M,$$ r γ in ⩽ 12 5 M , where $$r_{\gamma }^{in}$$ r γ in is the radius of the innermost photonsphere and M is the total ADM mass of the asymptotically flat compact star spacetime.

Abstract Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) can impair driving safety due to hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and diabetic eye diseases. However, few studies have examined the association between DM and driving safety in older adults based on naturalistic driving data. Methods Data for this study came from a multisite naturalistic driving study of drivers aged 65–79 years at baseline. Driving data for the study participants were recorded by in-vehicle recording devices for up to 44 months. We used multivariable negative binomial modeling to estimate adjusted incidence rate ratios (aIRRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of hard braking events (HBEs, defined as maneuvers with deceleration rates ≥ 0.4 g) associated with DM. Results Of the 2856 study participants eligible for this analysis, 482 (16.9%) reported having DM at baseline, including 354 (12.4%) insulin non-users and 128 (4.5%) insulin users. The incidence rates of HBEs per 1000 miles were 1.13 for drivers without DM, 1.15 for drivers with DM not using insulin, and 1.77 for drivers with DM using insulin. Compared to drivers without DM, the risk of HBEs was 48% higher for drivers with DM using insulin (aIRR 1.48; 95% CI: 1.43, 1.53). Conclusion Older adult drivers with DM using insulin appear to be at increased proneness to vehicular crashes. Driving safety should be taken into consideration in DM care and management.

Abstract Microbial necromass carbon (MNC) can reflect soil carbon (C) sequestration capacity. However, changes in the reserves of MNC in response to warming in alpine grasslands across the Tibetan Plateau are currently unclear. Based on large-scale sampling and published observations, we divided eco-clusters based on dominant phylotypes, calculated their relative abundance, and found that their averaged importance to MNC was higher than most other environmental variables. With a deep learning model based on stacked autoencoder, we proved that using eco-cluster relative abundance as the input variable of the model can accurately predict the overall distribution of MNC under current and warming conditions. It implied that warming could lead to an overall increase in the MNC in grassland topsoil across the Tibetan Plateau, with an average increase of 7.49 mg/g, a 68.3% increase. Collectively, this study concludes that alpine grassland has the tendency to increase soil C sequestration capacity on the Tibetan Plateau under future warming.

The imbalanced fertilization and the consequential deterioration on the rhizosphere microbial community (RMC) were two potential reasons for the quick yielding degradation of Phyllostachys violascens (Lei-bamboo), a high-value shoot-oriented bamboo. However, most research only focused on nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium; the studies on the dynamics of other nutrients, such as calcium and magnesium; and their driving mechanisms, lags far behind. Thus, Lei-bamboo fields of different mulching and recovery ages were selected to investigate the dynamics of calcium and magnesium in both soil and bamboo tissue, and to explore their relationship to RMC composition and network patterns. The results showed that mulching increased the content of soil acidification, total organic carbon, alkali-hydrolysable nitrogen, available phosphorus, and available potassium but reduced soil exchangeable magnesium and calcium in soil as well as the magnesium and calcium content in rhizome, stem, and leaf of Lei-bamboo, which indicated an increased relative limitation on magnesium and calcium. Mulching also enhanced the α-diversity and reshaped the composition of RMC, which had a close link to Mg rather than nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. As the mulching years increased, the RMC network became bigger and more complex, and the magnesium and calcium gradually appeared in the network center, which further support the magnesium and calcium deficiency to RMC. Nearly all the variation mentioned above could be revered after the removing of mulching. Structural equation modeling showed two main pathways that mulching leads to magnesium and calcium deficiency in Lei-bamboo, one is directly by lowering soil magnesium and calcium content, the other one is indirectly by improving RMC network interactions, a sign of weakened mutualism between RMC and plant roots that hampering the uptake of nutrients. This research highlights the quick magnesium and calcium deficiency caused by mulching in Lei-bamboo forest and the contribution of RMC in amplify the effects of soil magnesium and calcium deficiency, which offers valuable information on balancing fertilization pattern for future sustainable Lei-bamboo cultivation.

Microplastics (MPs) have been detected in placenta and amniotic fluid, but there is no research on whether MPs exist in the other two fetal appendages: fetal membrane and umbilical cord. Additionally, the existence of MPs in umbilical vein blood remains unexplored. Furthermore, it is unclear whether MPs in maternal blood are associated with those in umbilical vein blood and fetal appendages. In this study, we selected 12 full-term pregnant people who delivered by cesarean section, and finally detected 16 kinds of MPs from maternal blood, fetal appendages, and umbilical vein blood by laser direct infrared (LDIR). Polyamide accounted for the highest proportion in the six kinds of samples, followed by Polyurethane. The total MPs median abundance in six kinds of samples were umbilical cord, maternal blood, fetal membrane, amniotic fluid, placenta and umbilical vein blood from high to low, and the specific values were 10.397 particles/g, 8.176 particles/g, 6.561 particles/g, 4.795 particles/g, 4.675 particles/g, and 2.726 particles/g respectively. Moreover, more than 90 % of MPs measured between 20 and 100 μm in diameter. We also found that MPs abundance in amniotic fluid increased with the increase of maternal age (R=0.64, p=0.025) and body mass index before pregnancy (r = 0.59, p= 0.049). However, no statistically significant association was found between lifestyle factors and MPs abundance. Future studies should aim to expand the sample size for further investigation.

Johanson-Blizzard syndrome (JBS) is an autosomal recessive disorder. We established an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of a 2-year-old boy with Johanson-Blizzard syndrome carrying a compound heterozygous mutation of c.3167C>G (p.S1056X) and c.1911 + 14C>G(splicing) in the UBR1 gene. This iPSC line was free of exogenous gene, expressed stemness markers, exhibited differentiation potential, had normal karyotype and harbored the same mutations found in the patient. The iPSC cellline can serve as a disease model in drug development and novel personalized therapies.

ABSTRACT: Gut health of broiler chickens is essential for production performance. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of dietary supplementation with potassium diformate (KDF) on growth performance and intestinal health in broiler chickens. A total of 180 Arbor Acres (AA) broiler chickens were randomly allocated into 3 treatments, with 6 replicates, containing 10 chicks in each replicate. The treatment groups were: control group (CON) was fed a basal diet; KDF-4 groups fed the basal diet with 4 g/kg KDF; KDF-8 groups fed the basal diet with 8 g/kg KDF. PurposeCoinfections or consecutive infections of Mucor and Aspergillus are exceedingly uncommon in children, we report the case to offer the valuable experience for colleagues facing similar situations.Case reportThis report documents the first recorded case of successful treatment for pulmonary mixed infection in a diabetic girl. Initially, the patient underwent treatment based on voriconazole, but the infection continued to deteriorate. Subsequently, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid culture and metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) were conducted, leading to a clear diagnosis of simultaneous infection by Aspergillus fumigatus and Rhizopus microsporus. Susceptibility testing revealed fungal resistance to voriconazole. Therefore, a combined treatment regimen of AmB liposomes and isavuconazole effectively eradicated the fungal infection.ConclusionThis case underscores the importance of early and precise identification of fungal pathogens, determination of effective antifungal medications, and timely implementation of well-planned therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, we comprehensively reviewed 10 cases of pulmonary mixed infections involving Mucor and Aspergillus, summarizing their characteristics and identifying commonalities.

Increasing carbon sequestration (CS) in soils and biomass is an important land-based solution in mitigating global warming. Ecosystems provide a wide range of ecosystem services (ESs). The necessity to augment CS may engender alterations in the interrelationships among ESs, thereby heightening the probability of ecosystem destabilization. This study developed a framework that integrates machine learning and interpretable predictions to evaluate the destabilization risk resulting from alterations in ecosystem service relationships dominated by CS. We selected Northeastern China as study area to estimate six ESs and identified areas of destabilization risk among the three services most relevant to CS, including food production (FP), soil retention (SR), and habitat quality (HQ). Subsequently, we compared three machine learning models (random forest, extreme gradient boosting, and support vector machine) and introduced the Shapley additive interpretation (SHAP) method for driving mechanism analysis. The results showed that: (1) CS-FP had 30.28% of its area at destabilization risk and is the most significant ecosystem service pair; (2) Heilongjiang Province was the region with the highest destabilization risk of CS, with CS-FP and CS-SR accounting for 44.76% and 52.89% of all regions, respectively; (3) a non-linear relationship and the presence of threshold features between socio-ecological factors and the prediction of destabilization risk. The study has potential practical value for destabilization risks prevention, while also providing a scientific basis for formulating comprehensive carbon management policies and maintaining ecosystem stability.

ObjectiveTo explore the effectiveness and safety of the ketogenic diet (KD) in children with drug resistant epilepsy (DRE) caused by structural etiology.MethodsThe children were categorized into acquired brain injury group and malformations of cortical development (MCD) group based on the etiology. Follow-up assessments were performed at 1, 3, and 6 months after KD treatment to observe seizure reduction, behavioral and cognitive improvements, adverse reactions events, and reasons for discontinuation withdrawal. Statistical analysis was conducted on the results.ResultsWe found the seizure-free rates at 1, 3, and 6 months were 4.8% (2/42), 19% (8/42), and 21.4% (9/42), respectively. The seizure control effective rates were 42.9% (18/42), 52.4% (22/42), and 54.8% (23/42) at the corresponding time points. Compared to the acquired brain injury group, the MCD group showed a higher seizure control effective rate. Further analysis within the MCD group revealed the highest efficacy in focal cortical dysplasia (FCD). At the 3-month follow-up, cognitive and behavioral improvements were observed in 69% (29/42) of children. The main reasons for discontinuation were lack of efficacy and poor compliance.SignificanceFinally, we get that KD is a safe and effective treatment for drug resistant epilepsy caused by structural etiology, with the added benefit of improving behavioral and cognitive abilities in children. The efficacy is higher in children with MCD, particularly in cases of FCD. Early intervention with KD is recommended for this population.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation is one of the most predominant internal RNA modifications in eukaryotes and has become a hot spot in the field of epigenetics in recent years. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading cause of death globally. Emerging evidence demonstrates that RNA modifications, such as the m6A modification, are associated with the development and progression of many diseases, including CVDs. An increasing body of studies has indicated that programmed cell death (PCD) plays a vital role in CVDs. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying m6A modification and PCD in CVDs remain poorly understood. Herein, elaborating on the highly complex connections between the m6A mechanisms and different PCD signaling pathways and clarifying the exact molecular mechanism of m6A modification mediating PCD have significant meaning in developing new strategies for the prevention and therapy of CVDs. There is great potential for clinical application.

The hospital is a workplace full of stressful events for healthcare workers (HCWs) due to unpredictable changes in their daily routines. Perceptions of stressful events (stress mindset) have a significant impact on an individual’s health and well-being. However, few studies have reported the factors and potential counter mechanisms influencing these perceptions. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between empathy, self-disclosure, social support, and stress mindset of HCWs, and to explore the mechanism of empathy on stress mindset. Five hundred and eight HCWs (35.2% men and 64.8% women) completed the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), the Distress Disclosure Index (DDI), the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), the Stress Mindset Measure (SMM), and demographic questionnaires online in China. The results showed that empathy was positively linked with stress mindset and positively correlated with self-disclosure and social support. In the multiple mediating model, self-disclosure and social support mediated the association between empathy and stress mindset sequentially. The results imply that empathy, self-disclosure, and social support play a significant role in the formation of HCWs’ stress mindset. These findings have substantial ramifications for reducing stress and creating successful government interventions to fortify stress mindset in healthcare.

Abstract China, as the world’s biggest soybean importer and fourth-largest producer, needs accurate mapping of its planting areas for global food supply stability. The challenge lies in gathering and collating ground survey data for different crops. We proposed a spatiotemporal migration method leveraging vegetation indices’ temporal characteristics. This method uses a feature space of six integrals from the crops’ phenological curves and a concavity-convexity index to distinguish soybean and non-soybean samples in cropland. Using a limited number of actual samples and our method, we extracted features from optical time-series images throughout the soybean growing season. The cloud and rain-affected data were supplemented with SAR data. We then used the random forest algorithm for classification. Consequently, we developed the 10-meter resolution ChinaSoybean10 maps for the ten primary soybean-producing provinces from 2019 to 2022. The map showed an overall accuracy of about 93%, aligning significantly with the statistical yearbook data, confirming its reliability. This research aids soybean growth monitoring, yield estimation, strategy development, resource management, and food scarcity mitigation, and promotes sustainable agriculture.

Abstract Background As of November 8, 2023, 24 states and the District of Columbia have legalized cannabis for both recreational and medical use (RMCL-states), 14 states have legalized cannabis for medical use only (MCL-states) and 12 states have no comprehensive cannabis legislation (NoCL-states). As more states legalize cannabis for recreational use, it is critical to understand the impact of such policies on driving safety. Methods Using the 2019 and 2020 Fatality Analysis Reporting System data, we performed multivariable logistic regression modeling to explore the association between state level legalization status and cannabis positivity using toxicological testing data for 14,079 fatally injured drivers. We performed a sensitivity analysis by including multiply imputed toxicological testing data for the 14,876 eligible drivers with missing toxicological testing data. Results Overall, 4702 (33.4%) of the 14,079 fatally injured drivers tested positive for cannabis use. Abstract The mechanism for the generation of atmospheric pollution sources can be further investigated through the examination of atmospheric evolution and diffusion characteristics. The authors of this study conducted a 3-month MAX-DOAS (multi-axis differential optical absorption spectroscopy) vertical observation in Shijiazhuang City, North China Plain, in the summer of 2020 in response to the long-standing air pollution issues in the region. The vertical distribution profiles of aerosol, NO2, HCHO, and CHOCHO were generated, and the inversion findings showed good agreement with the TROPOMI (tropospheric monitoring instrument) satellite remote sensing validation, demonstrating the validity and accuracy of the observations. The near-surface boundary layer is home to the majority of the NO2, HCHO, and CHOCHO species. The species’ daytime evolution trends varied, with the highest NO2 peaks occurring in the morning and evening commute, the highest HCHO peaks occurring in the morning at 10:00 a.m., and CHOCHO's concentration during the day declined. Two minor aerosol pollution processes took place in Shijiazhuang City during the summer observation period. The elevated concentrations of NO2, CO, and the PM2.5/PM10 ratio during the pollution processes suggest that anthropogenic emissions, particularly biomass burning, were responsible for the large number of fine particles generated during the pollution events. Based on the examination of pollutant concentration profiles and meteorological data, it was determined that local emissions and north wind transport were the primary causes of Shijiazhuang's high NO2 values. Meanwhile, the southern region of Shijiazhuang was primarily responsible for the majority of the potential sources of atmospheric HCHO, and local emissions were also a major factor affecting the high CHOCHO values. Shijiazhuang's local near-surface volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are mostly caused by human emissions, although biomass burning and its regional transportation have a greater influence on the middle and upper boundary layers. This study systematically sorted the evolution characteristics and potential sources of pollutants in Shijiazhuang City during the summer based on the joint observations of various pollutants, including NO2, HCHO, and CHOCHO. These results can be used to support the development of appropriate policies for the prevention and control of pollutants in the Shijiazhuang local area of the North China Plain.

Abstract Bach2 was initially discovered in B cells, where it was revealed to control the transcription involved in cell differentiation. Bach2 is intimately connected to CD8 + T lymphocytes in various differentiation states and subsets according to recent findings. Bach2 can regulate primitive T cells, stimulate the development and differentiation of memory CD8 + T cells, inhibit the differentiation of effector CD8 + T cells, and play a significant role in the exhaustion of CD8 + T cells. The appearance and development of diseases are tightly linked to irregular CD8 + T cell differentiation and function. Accordingly, Bach2 offers novel approaches and possible targets for the clinical treatment of associated disorders based on research on these pathways. Here, we summarize the role of Bach2 in the function and differentiation of CD8 + T cells and its potential clinical applications.

Abstract Background Intervertebral disc degeneration and sarcopenia are both age-related diseases without effective treatments. Their comorbidities may worsen the prognosis, and further studies on interaction and therapy are needed. The purpose of the study was to investigate the prevalence of sarcopenia in intervertebral disc degeneration, and to compare the characteristics of intervertebral disc degeneration with and without sarcopenia and effects of interferential current. Methods One hundred twenty disc degeneration patients were included from 2021 to 2022 in a single institute. Medical records, examination results and radiological reports were reviewed. Patients with sarcopenia were screened and grouped according to Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019. VAS, ODI, SARC-F, SMI, gait speed (GS), grip strength, disc Pfirrmann grading, standard cross-sectional area (SCSA), degree of fatty infiltration (DFF), and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) were assessed before and after treatment. Results The prevalence of sarcopenia in intervertebral disc degeneration was 28.3%. The difference of VAS, ODI, disc Pfirrmann grading, SCSA, DFF and NCV between two groups were significant before intervention (P 0.05). Conclusion The prevalence of sarcopenia was high in intervertebral disc degeneration, and paravertebral muscles degeneration correlated with the degree of disc degeneration. Compared to those without sarcopenia, intervertebral disc degeneration patients with sarcopenia have more severe pain, poorer mobility and neurological function. Interferential current is effective in intervertebral disc degeneration patients and sarcopenia patients.

This article aims to investigate the mechanism by which Bacillus amyloliquefaciens alleviates lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced intestinal oxidative stress. The study involved two experimental subjects: human colorectal adenocarcinoma (Caco-2) cells and Arbor Acres broiler chickens. The experiment involving two samples was designed with the same treatment groups, specifically the control (CK) group, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) group, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (JF) group, and JF+LPS group. In the Caco-2 experiment, we administered 2 μg/mL of LPS and 1 × 106 CFU/mL of JF to the LPS and JF groups, respectively. In the broiler experiment, the LPS group (19–21 d) received an abdominal injection of 0.5 mg/kg BW of LPS, whereas the JF group was fed 1 × 107 CFU/g of JF throughout the entire duration of the experiment (1–21 d). The results indicated the following: (1) JF significantly decreased the DPPH free radical clearance rate and hydrogen peroxide levels (p < 0.05). (2) JF significantly enhanced the total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH Px) activity in Caco-2 cells (p < 0.05), while concurrently reducing malondialdehyde (MDA) content (p < 0.05). (3) Compared to the CK group, JF significantly increased the mRNA expression levels of nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), SOD, catalase (CAT), GSH-Px, interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-10 (IL-10), Claudin, Occludin1, zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), and mucin 2 (MUC2) in Caco-2 cells (p < 0.05), while concurrently reducing the mRNA expression of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and interleukin-8 (IL-8) (p < 0.05). In comparison to the LPS group, the JF+LPS group demonstrated a significant increase in the mRNA expression of Nrf2, SOD, GSH-Px, and IL-4, as well as Occludin1, ZO-1, and MUC2 in Caco-2 cells (p < 0.05), alongside a decrease in the mRNA expression of Keap1, TNF-α, and IL-1β (p < 0.05). (4) In broiler chickens, the JF group significantly elevated the levels of T-AOC, CAT, and GSH-Px in the jejunum while reducing MDA content (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the CAT level in the JF+LPS group was significantly higher than that observed in the LPS group, and the levels of MDA, TNF-α, and IL-1β were significantly decreased (p < 0.05). (5) In comparison to the CK group, the JF group exhibited a significant increase in Nrf2 levels in the jejunum of broiler chickens (p < 0.05). Notably, the mRNA expression levels of IL-4, IL-10, Claudin, Occludin1, ZO-1, and MUC2 were reduced (p < 0.05), while the mRNA expression levels of Keap1, TNF-α, and IL-1β also showed a decrease (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the mRNA expression levels of Nrf2, Occludin1, ZO-1, and MUC2 in the JF+LPS group were significantly elevated compared to those in the LPS group (p < 0.05), whereas the mRNA expression levels of Keap1 and TNF-α were significantly diminished (p < 0.05). In summary, JF can enhance the intestinal oxidative stress response, improve antioxidant capacity and intestinal barrier function, and decrease the expression of inflammatory factors by regulating the Keap1/Nrf2 signaling pathway.

Once the rolling bearing fails, it will threaten the normal operation of the whole rotating machinery. Therefore, it is very necessary to conduct research on rolling bearing fault diagnosis. This paper proposes a rolling bearing fault diagnosis method combining MSSSA-VMD (variational mode decomposition optimized by the improved salp swarm algorithm based on mixed strategy) with the parallel network of GASF-CNN (convolutional neural network based on Gramian angular summation field) and bi-directional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) to solve the problem of poor diagnostic performance for the rolling bearing faults caused by the respective limitations of existing fault diagnosis methods based on signal processing and deep learning. Firstly, MSSSA-VMD is proposed to solve the problem where the decomposition effect of VMD is not ideal due to improper parameter selection. Then, MSSSA-VMD is employed to preprocess and extract characteristics. Finally, the extracted characteristics are input into the parallel network of GASF-CNN and BiLSTM for diagnosis. In one channel of the parallel network, GASF is used to convert the characteristic vectors into a two-dimensional image, which is then fed into CNN for spatial characteristic extraction. In the other channel of the parallel network, the characteristic vectors are directly input into BiLSTM for temporal characteristic extraction. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method has good performance in terms of fault diagnosis performance under constant operating conditions, generalization ability under variable operating conditions and noise resistance.

Well-production forecasting plays a crucial role in oil and gas development. Traditional methods, such as numerical simulations, require substantial computational effort, while empirical models tend to exhibit poor accuracy. To address these issues, machine learning, a widely adopted artificial intelligence approach, is employed to develop production forecasting models in order to enhance the accuracy of oil and gas well-production predictions. This research focuses on the geological, engineering, and production data of 435 fracturing wells in the North China Oilfield. First, outliers were detected, and missing values were handled using the mean imputation and nearest neighbor methods. Subsequently, Pearson correlation coefficients were utilized to eliminate linearly irrelevant features and optimize the dataset. By calculating the gray correlation degrees, maximum mutual information, feature importance, and Shapley additive explanation (SHAP) values, an in-depth analysis of various dominant factors was conducted. To further assess the importance of these factors, the entropy weight method was employed. Ultimately, 19 features that were highly correlated with the target variable were successfully screened as inputs for subsequent models. Based on the AutoGluon framework, model training was conducted using 5-fold cross-validation combined with bagging and stacking techniques. The training results show that the model achieved an R2 of 0.79 on the training set, indicating good fitting ability. This study offers a promising approach for the development of oil and gas production forecasting models.
