2. Computed tomography-based radiomic model for the prediction of neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy response in patients with advanced gastric cancer.

- Abstract
Background: Neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy (nICT) has emerged as a popular treatment approach for advanced gastric cancer (AGC) in clinical practice worldwide. However, the response of AGC patients to nICT displays significant heterogeneity, and no existing radiomic model utilizes baseline computed tomography to predict treatment outcomes., Aim: To establish a radiomic model to predict the response of AGC patients to nICT., Methods: Patients with AGC who received nICT ( n = 60) were randomly assigned to a training cohort ( n = 42) or a test cohort ( n = 18). Various machine learning models were developed using selected radiomic features and clinical risk factors to predict the response of AGC patients to nICT. An individual radiomic nomogram was established based on the chosen radiomic signature and clinical signature. The performance of all the models was assessed through receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, decision curve analysis (DCA) and the Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test., Results: The radiomic nomogram could accurately predict the response of AGC patients to nICT. In the test cohort, the area under curve was 0.893, with a 95% confidence interval of 0.803-0.991. DCA indicated that the clinical application of the radiomic nomogram yielded greater net benefit than alternative models., Conclusion: A nomogram combining a radiomic signature and a clinical signature was designed to predict the efficacy of nICT in patients with AGC. 3. Association between MTHFR c.677C>T variant and erectile dysfunction among males attending fertility clinic.

- Abstract
Genetic risk factors have been shown to contribute to the development of sexual dysfunction. However, the role of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase ( MTHFR ) gene variants in the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED) remains unclear. In this study, we recruited 1254 participants who underwent ED assessed by the International Index of Erectile Function-5. The MTHFR c.677C>T variant was also measured by fluorescence polymerase chain reaction (PCR). No significant difference in the genotypic frequency of the MTHFR C677T polymorphism (CC, CT, and TT) was observed between men from the ED and non-ED groups. In addition, on binary logistic regression analysis, both crude and adjusted models showed that the risk of ED was not significantly associated with the C677T polymorphism. Interestingly, a significantly higher frequency of the 677TT polymorphism was found in severe and moderate ED (P = 0.02). The positive correlation between the MTHFR 677TT polymorphism and severe ED was confirmed by logistic regression analysis, even after adjusting for potential confounders (odds ratio [OR] = 2.46, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.15-5.50, P = 0.02). These findings suggest a positive correlation between the MTHFR 677TT polymorphism and the risk of severe ED. Colorectal cancer is one of the most commonly occurring cancers worldwide. Although clinical reports have indicated the anticancer effects of Chinese herbal medicine, the multiple underlying molecular and biochemical mechanisms of action remain to be fully characterized. Chinese medicine (CM) monomers, which are the active components of CM, serve as the material basis of the functional mechanisms of CM. The aim of this review is to summarize the current experimental evidence from in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies for the effects of CM monomers in colorectal cancer prevention and treatment, providing some useful references for future research., (© 2022. - Abstract
The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is emerging as a global health threat and shows a higher risk for men than women. Thus far, the studies on andrological consequences of COVID-19 are limited. To ascertain the consequences of COVID-19 on sperm parameters after recovery, we recruited 41 reproductive-aged male patients who had recovered from COVID-19, and analyzed their semen parameters and serum sex hormones at a median time of 56 days after hospital discharge. For longitudinal analysis, a second sampling was obtained from 22 of the 41 patients after a median time interval of 29 days from first sampling. Compared with controls who had not suffered from COVID-19, the total sperm count, sperm concentration, and percentages of motile and progressively motile spermatozoa in the patients were significantly lower at first sampling, while sperm vitality and morphology were not affected. The total sperm count, sperm concentration, and number of motile spermatozoa per ejaculate were significantly increased and the percentage of morphologically abnormal sperm was reduced at the second sampling compared with those at first in the 22 patients examined. Though there were higher prolactin and lower progesterone levels in patients at first sampling than those in controls, no significant alterations were detected for any sex hormones examined over time following COVID-19 recovery in the 22 patients. Although it should be interpreted carefully, these findings indicate an adverse but potentially reversible consequence of COVID-19 on sperm quality., Competing Interests: None

- Abstract
Background: The advent of immune checkpoint therapy has been a tremendous advance in cancer treatment. However, the responses are still insufficient in patients with soft tissue sarcoma (STS). We aimed to identify rational combinations to increase the response to immune checkpoint therapy and improve survival., Methods: Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was performed in 11 patients with liposarcoma. Somatic copy number alterations (SCNAs) were analyzed at the gene level to identify obvious amplification patterns in drug-target genes. The expression and prognostic value of class I histone deacetylases (HDACs) was evaluated in 49 patients with sarcoma in our center and confirmed in 263 sarcoma samples from The Tumor Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Q-PCR, flow cytometry and RNA-seq were performed to determine the correlations between class I HDACs, chidamide and PD-L1 in vitro and in vivo. The efficacy of combining chidamide with PD-1 blockade was explored in an immunocompetent murine model and a small cohort of patients with advanced sarcoma. Western blot, ChIP assay and dual luciferase assessment were applied in the mechanistic study., Results: The HDAC gene family was frequently amplified in STS. SCNAs in the HDAC gene family were extensively amplified in 8 of 11 (73%) patients with liposarcoma, based on a drug-target gene set, and we verified amplification in 76.65% (197/257) of cases by analyzing TCGA sarcoma cohort. Class I HDAC expression is associated with a poor prognosis for patients with STS, and its inhibition is responsible for promoting apoptosis and upregulating of programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1). The HDAC class I inhibitor chidamide significantly increases PD-L1 expression, increased the infiltration of CD8
+ T cells and reduced the number of MDSCs in the tumor microenvironment. The combination of chidamide with an anti-PD-1 antibody significantly promotes tumor regression and improves survival in a murine model. Moreover, chidamide combined with the anti-PD-1 antibody toripalimab is effective in patients with advanced and metastatic sarcoma, and the side effects are tolerable. Mechanistically, chidamide increases histone acetylation at the PD-L1 gene through the activation of the transcriptional factor STAT1., Conclusions: The combination of chidamide and anti-programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) therapy represents a potentially important strategy for STS., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2021. 7. The Impact of Unplanned Excision on the Outcomes of Patients With Soft Tissue Sarcoma of the Trunk and Extremity: A Propensity Score Matching Analysis.

- Abstract
Background: Unplanned excision (UPE) of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) is often chosen in the early phase by general physicians without any radiological evaluation., Purpose: The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of UPE on the clinical outcomes of patients with STS of the trunk and extremity., Materials and Methods: Patients with STS of the trunk and extremity who underwent R0 resection between 1998 and 2016 were included and divided into the UPE and planned excision (PE) groups. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to control the selection bias. The endpoints were disease-specific survival (DSS), local recurrence-free survival (LRFS), and metastasis-free survival (MFS)., Results: In total, 458 patients (277 males, 181 females; median age: 43 years) were included: 329 (71.8%) in the PE group and 129 (28.2%) in the UPE group. The follow-up time ranged from 7.1 to 313.78 months, with a median of 112.18 months. UPE patients were more likely to have a smaller or superficial lesion and were more frequently administered adjuvant therapy. After PSM, compared with the PE group, the UPE group had a longer LRFS (P=0.015), but there was no difference between the two groups regarding DSS and MFS. Residual disease was observed in 77.5% of the re-resected specimens in the UPE group and was a risk factor for DSS (P = 0.046) and MFS (P = 0.029) but was not associated with local recurrence (LR) (P=0.475) or LRFS (P=0.334). Moreover, we found no difference in DSS, LRFS or MFS according to the interval from UPE to definitive resection., Conclusion: STS treated with UPE had distinct characteristics. 8. [Evaluation of the fabrication deviation of a kind of milling digital implant surgical guides].

- Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the deviation of digital implant surgical guides during fabrication process in the Organical Dental Implant (ODI) system., Methods: This study included two parts. The first part was the in vitro study. A resin block with a diagnostic template was used for the planning. After cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanning, a surgical guide with eight implants was virtually designed using the ODI system. The guide was milled by a 5-axial numerical controlled milling machine, and an optical scanning was taken to digitalize the guide to a standard tessellation language (STL) form. The STL data were then imported into an ODI software and registered with the original design. The deviation of the sleeves between the design and the STL was measured in the ODI software and set as the golden standard. Then the ODI examination table was used to measure the deviation of the guide during fabrication. Examiners A and B measured 10 times separately. The reliability and the validity of the examination table was calculated. The second part was the in vivo study: The deviation during fabrication of 12 guides designed and fabricated by the ODI system were measured using the examination table., Results: The standard deviation of the deviation measured using the examination table by examiners A and B were all below 0.40 mm (for the shell reference points) and 0.71 degree (for the angles). No significant difference was found between the two examiners for any implant sites. The result of the examination table was larger than that of the software for the shell reference point (t-test, P<0.05), but no significant difference was found for the angle deviation (t-test, P>0.05). The 45 implants positions in the 12 guides for the in vivo study were examined using the examination table. The deviations at the shell reference points were (1.06±0.29) mm (0.42-1.75 mm), and at the implant tip were (1.12±0.48) mm (0.41-2.44 mm). The angle deviations were (1.42±0.70) degree (0.29-2.96 degree)., Conclusion: Deviation is unavoidable during the fabrication process of the guides. The examination table of the ODI system is a reliable and valid tool to measure the deviation during fabrication of the ODI guides. More studies should be designed to research the relationship between the fabrication deviation and the implant insertion deviation.

9. Value of microsurgical varicocelectomy for severe oligo-asthenospermia patients failed in fertilization assisted by in vitro fertilization.

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of microsurgical varicocelectomy on severe oligo-asthenospermia patients failing in fertilization assisted by intracytoplasmic sperm injection., Patients and Methods: From January 2013 to August 2014, forty-nine patients with severe oligo-asthenospermia and serious varicoceles were treated by microsurgical varicocelectomy after failing in fertilization assisted by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), eleven of whom had varicoceles on the left side and thirty-eight had bilateral varicoceles. Patients were followed up for the natural pregnancy condition, changes of routine semen parameters and reproductive hormone level and the embryonic development and outcome of next IVF-ET (ICSI) cycles within 6 months., Results: After surgery, 61.2% (30/49) of spouses obtained clinical pregnancy. Among whom 22.4% (11/49) were naturally pregnant, 32.65% (16/49) were conceived after second IVF-ET assistance, and 6.1% (3/49) were conceived with the third or further assistance of ICSI-ET. The overall miscarriage rate was 16.7% (5/30). All of the patients had improvement in the sperm concentration and forward motility. The sperm concentration increased from (10.53 ± 8.76) × 106/ml to (20.23 ± 11.76) × 106/ml. The ratio of forward motile sperm was increased to (30.52 ± 18.78) % from (8.75.52 ± 6.36) % (p < 0.01). The serum total testosterone (T) improved from (2.19 ± 1.03) ng/ml to (4.05 ± 0.64) ng/ml (p < 0.05). Serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) changed from (5.23 ± 1.26) mIU/ml to (3.76 ± 2.22) mIU/ml after the procedure. Luteinizing hormone (LH) changed from (4.38 ± 1.36) to (3.98 ± 1.38) mIU/ml. Estrogen (E2) changed from 40.28 ± 7.26 pg/ml to 35.24 ± 5.75 pg/ml. Prolactin (PRL) level elevated from (18.24 ± 4.28) to (17.16 ± 2.16) ng/ml (p > 0.05). The fertility rate of in vitro fertilization significantly improved to (83.36 ± 19.36) % from (72.36 ± 17.88) % (p < 0.05). The rate of 2PN ratio increased from (66.73 ± 17.93) % to (75.96 ± 20.39) %. The cleavage rate increased from (83.26 ± 32.33) % to (90.35 ± 23.66). The abnormal fertility rate were (5.36 ± 12.58) % and (7.26 ± 13.89) % before and after the procedure (p > 0.05), while the rate of high-quality embryos increased significantly from (34.36 ± 33.27) % to (55.67 ± 23.36) % (p < 0.05). The rate of transferable embryos remained without significant change (70.67 ± 30.6% before and 60.53 ± 30.27% after the procedure). The anabiosis rate of frozen embryo increased from (66.32 ± 30.69) % to (89.72 ± 29.69) %. The further blastocyst rate improved from (10.98 ± 9.7) % to (30.27 ± 15.33) % (p < 0.01)., Conclusions: The microsurgical varicocelectomy effectively improved sperm parameters, the fertility rate of oocyte fertilized in vitro and the anabiosis rate and blastocyst rate of the frozen embryo for on patients with severe oligo-asthenospermic, and further increased the odds of natural pregnancy, the rate of high-quality embryos and the success rate of in vitro fertilization.

Background: Vertebral-basilar artery stenosis is associated with posterior circulation infarction. So correct detection of vertebral basilar artery stenosis is very important. Studies concerning the sensitivity and specificity of 3-dimensional contrast enhanced MR angiography (3D-CE-MRA) in detecting vertebral basilar artery stenosis is generally lacking., Methods: Retrospectively reviewed the imagines of consecutive one hundred and forty-nine Chinese patients with ischemic stroke or vertigo/dizziness who underwent 3D-CE-MRA and DSA. DSA and CE-MRA images were studied separately and to determine the presence of mild, moderate, or severe stenosis of the vertebral-basilar arteries. Analysis combined with vascular origin image was applied when evaluating the vertebral artery origin stenosis. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and the accuracy of 3D-CE-MRA in detecting and grading of vertebral-basilar artery stenosis were calculated., Results: Compared with DSA, sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of 3D-CE-MRA in detecting of vertebral artery origin ≥70% stenosis or occlusion was 97.1%, 77.4% and 81.9%, but diagnostic consistency was poor (K=0.59); Analysis combined with vascular origin images, the specificity (97.8%), accuracy (92.9%) and consistency (K=0.826) was significantly improved., Conclusions: 3D-CE-MRA is a sensitive and noninvasive technique for the detection of vertebral artery origin stenosis. 11. Cryoprotectant-free ultra-rapid freezing of human spermatozoa in cryogenic vials.

- Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of ultra-rapid freezing (direct immersion in liquid nitrogen) on human spermatozoa in cryogenic vials (≥0.5 ml) at different concentrations of sucrose. After swim-up, the sperm suspensions (N = 58) were diluted with sperm preparation medium and divided into six aliquots: swim-up (fresh), conventional freezing group (slow freezing) and four ultra-rapid freezing groups containing sucrose at different concentrations (0.15 m, 0.20 m, 0.25 m and 0.30 m). Sperm motility, progressive motility, plasma membrane integrity, DNA stability and acrosome integrity of fresh and cooled-warmed spermatozoa were analysed. The progressive motility, plasma membrane and acrosome integrity of spermatozoa in the 0.20 m sucrose group were significantly higher than those of the slow freezing group (47.5 ± 6.8% versus 36.4 ± 8.7%, 73.2 ± 6.9% versus 63.9 ± 6.3%, 53.7 ± 10.0% versus 35.9 ± 9.7% respectively, P < 0.05). However, no differences were found in sperm motility or DNA stability (58.5 ± 6.3% versus 54.2 ± 5.3%, 90.1 ± 2.8% versus 87.2 ± 4.7%, P > 0.05 respectively) between the 0.20 m sucrose and the slow freezing group. No differences were found between the ultra-rapid and slow freezing group at the other concentrations of sucrose. Our findings suggest that the method of ultra-rapid freezing of human spermatozoa in cryogenic vials with a solution containing 0.20 m sucrose results in recovery of spermatozoon of superior qualities. In contrast to slow freezing, the ultra-rapid freezing technique of human spermatozoa seems to reduce cryoinjuries and maintain important physiological characteristics of the spermatozoa after warming., (© 2013 Blackwell Verlag GmbH.)

- Abstract
To investigate the influence of Anxin granules combined with tirofiban on acute myocardial infarction (AMI) Patients after elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). One hundred and twenty AMI patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. The patients in the two groups were all given Tirofiban 30mins before PCI . The treatment group was added Anxin granules 30 mins before and after PCI. Tissue factor (TF) and von willebrand factor (vWF) were tested at 6 hours after operation. Syndromatology alteration of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and bleeding complications were observed at 4 weeks after operation. Both TF and vWF at 6 hours after operation of the treatment group was lower than the control group significantly (P < 0.01), while the condition of myocardial ischemia at 90 mins after operation of the treatment group was better than control group with significance. The syndromatology alteration of TCM especially spontaneous perspiration and hypodynamia of the treatment group were improved significantly compared to control group 4 weeks after operation. All patients in both groups had no bleeding complications and thrombopenia. The study suggests that Anxin granules combined with tirofiba can improve the clinical efficacy and the endothelial function of AMI patients after PCI with no increase in bleeding events.

- Abstract
Mossy fiber sprouting (MFS) is a pathological phenomenon that is commonly observed in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying MFS remain unclear. It has been demonstrated that the tau protein is important in the progression of MFS by the regulation of microtubule dynamics and axonal transport, with all of these functions of tau modulated by its site-specific phosphorylation. Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) is an active kinase that regulates the phosphorylation of tau protein. Therefore, it was hypothesized that GSK-3β contributes to MFS by phosphorylating tau protein. The aim of the present study was to determine the expression and activity of GSK-3β at different regions in the rat hippocampus during the pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-kindling process in order to demonstrate the possible correlation with MFS, and to investigate the involvement of GSK-3β in epileptogenesis. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n=180) were randomly divided into the control and PTZ-treated groups. The chronic epileptic model was established by intraperitoneal injection of PTZ and the hippocampus was observed for the presence of MFS using Timm staining. GSK-3β mRNA, protein and activity were analyzed in various regions of the hippocampus using in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry and immunoprecipitation followed by a kinase assay and liquid scintillation counting, respectively. MFS was observed prior to kindling and an increased distribution of Timm granules were observed in the CA3 region of the PTZ-treated rats; however, this was not demonstrated in the supragranular layer of the dentate gyrus. The expression of GSK-3β mRNA and protein, as well as the GSK-3β activity, increased significantly from 3 days to 4 weeks in the PTZ group, and this was correlated with the progression of MFS in the CA3 area. In addition, it was demonstrated that MFS did not result from TLE. GSK-3β may therefore be involved in the progression of MFS and is important in epileptogenesis. An understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying MFS may lead to the identification of a novel therapeutic target to limit epileptogenesis.

Objective: To explore the feasibility of ultra-rapid freezing of human spermatozoa in the cryogenic vial with different concentrations of sucrose solution., Methods: We divided 40 normal semen samples prepared with the routine swim-up technique into 6 aliquots, 1 as the control and the other 5 cryopreserved with sucrose solution at the concentrations of 0.15, 0.20, 0.25 and 0.30 mol/L, respectively. After thawing, we determined and compared the motility, progressive motility and plasma membrane integrity of the sperm among the 6 groups., Results: The motility, progressive motility and plasma membrane integrity of the sperm were significantly lower after thawing than before cryopreservation ([96.2 +/- 1.8]%, [93.8 +/- 2.8]% and [99.0 +/- 0.8 ]%) (P<0.05). Post-thawing sperm motility was (55.5 +/- 6.3)% in the 0.20 mol/L sucrose group, significantly higher than in the 0.15, 0.25 and 0.30 mol/L groups ([45.9 +/- 6.6]%, [50.4 +/- 9.4]% and [45.5 +/- 11.2]%) (P<0.05), and it was (53.6 +/- 5.0)% in the conventional freezing group, with no statistically significant difference from the 0.20 and 0.25 mol/L sucrose cryopreservation groups (P> 0.05), but remarkably higher than in the 0.15 and 0.30 mol/L groups (P<0.05). Post-thawing progressive sperm motility exhibited no statistically significant differences between the 0.20 mol/L sucrose and conventional freezing groups ([44.4 +/- 7.4]% vs [42.3 +/- 8.1]%, P>0.05), but markedly higher in both than in the 0.15, 0.25 and 0.30 mol/L sucrose groups ([37.1 +/- 8.3 ]%, [33.1 +/- 9.2]% and [22.0 +/- 9.1]%) (P<0.05). Post-thawing plasma membrane integrity was significantly higher in the 0.20 mol/L sucrose cryopreservation group ( [70.1 +/- 6.9]%) than in either the conventional freezing group ([63.1 +/- 6.8]%) or the 0.15, 0.25 and 0.30 mol/L sucrose groups ([57.7 +/- 8.3]%, [63.5 +/- 10.7]% and [57.8 +/- 12.9]%) (P<0.05)., Conclusion: As a simple, safe and effective method, ultra-rapid freezing with sucrose solution at the final concentration of 0.20 mol/L can be used for the cryopreservation of human spermatozoa.

The methods of in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, Western blot and immuno-precipitation and liquid scintillation counter were employed respectively., Results: Prominent MFS was observed in area CA3 rather than the inner molecular layer in PTZ-treated rats. And the degree of MFS progressed with the development of behavioral kindled seizures. The expressions of Cdk5/p35 mRNA and protein, tau protein and its phosphorylation at Ser202 significantly increased from Day 3 to Week 4 in the PTZ treatment group. It was in accordance with the progression of MFS in area CA3., Conclusion: Cdk5/p35 and its substrate tau protein may be involved in MFS. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of MFS may lead to therapeutic interventions for limiting epileptogenesis.

Background: The most well-documented synaptic reorganization associated with temporal lobe epilepsy is mossy fiber sprouting (MFS), which is believed to play a critical role in epileptogenesis. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this phenomenon remain unclear. Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5) is a proline-directed serine/threonine kinase which is found to be crucial in axon growth and synaptic plasticity. We hypothesized that Cdk5 contributed to MFS via phosphorylating its substrate tau protein, which was known to facilitate microtubule stabilization and axonal elongation., Methods: 240 male SD rats were randomly divided into the control group and PTZ group. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the correlations among hippocampal damage, spontaneous recurrent seizures (SRS), and mossy fiber sprouting (MFS) using pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) kindling model., Methods: Chronic epileptic model was established by administration of PTZ. Behaviour and EEG seizure activity were recorded. Rats' hippocampus were analyzed with haematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain for histological lesions and evaluated for MFS with Timm stain., Results: Prominent MFS was observed in area CA3 rather than the inner molecular layer in PTZ treated rats and the degree of MFS progressed with the development of behavioral kindled seizures. MFS preceded the occurrence of spontaneous seizures. No obvious neuronal necrosis and loss were observed in different regions of the hippocampus during kindling progression., Conclusion: MFS is not the outcome of SRS. Severe hippocampal damage is not required in the development of MFS and SRS.

At the 3rd day, 1st week, 2nd week, 4th week, and 6th week after daily injection, Timm staining was performed in area CA3 and dentate gyrus, and the mRNA and protein of Cdk5 and p35 were analyzed in the hilus and stratum granulosum of dentate gyrus and area CA1 and CA3 of hippocampus, by in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry, respectively., Results: The expression levels of Cdk5 and p35 mRNA were significantly higher in the PTZ treated subgroups of the 3rd day, 1st week, 2nd week, and 4th week than those in the controls. Thereafter, the expression decreased to the level of controls. The expression level of Cdk5 and p35 protein increased from the 3rd day to 2nd week, and then gradually decreased to the level of the controls. Timm scores for PTZ groups were 1 to approximately 4 before kindling and 4~5 after kindling in area CA3., Conclusion: Change of Cdk5/p35 expression in the hippocampus may play a role in epileptogenesis by influencing the process of mossy fiber sprouting.

Objective: To determine the changes of mossy fiber sprouting in hippocampus of pre-kindling and post-kindling rats of chronic epilepsy induced by pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)., Methods: Sixty rats were randomly divided into a control group and a PTZ group (PTZ 30 mg/kg, intraperitoneal injection, once daily). The changes of mossy fiber sprouting in hippocampus of pre-kindling and post-kindling rats were examined by Timm staining., Results: Before the occurrence of convulsion confirmed by behavior and EEG, the mossy fiber sprouting was found in the PTZ group. The grade of the mossy fiber sprouting increased with the gradual establishment of kindling effect., Conclusion: Mossy fiber sprouting may play an important role in the onset and development of epilepsy.

- Abstract
Infiltrating spinal epidural angiolipoma is an uncommon benign tumor composed of mature adipose elements admixed with abnormal blood vessel, which tends to invade the surrounding soft tissue and may potentially be mistaken for an aggressive tumor. In this report, we present the MR imaging findings of a pathologically proved infiltrating spinal epidural angiolipoma that appeared largely hypointense on T1-weighted images and enhanced strongly with IV injection of contrast medium, features that suggested a malignant tumor.
