With the experimental binding energies and configurations, the root-mean-square radii of p-wave valence neutron distributions for nuclei up to the second p-shell have been calculated in the framework of the single-particle potential model. By analyzing the relations between the radii and the binding energies, the scaling laws of p-wave valence neutron distributions are obtained. The quantitative conditions for the formation of p-wave neutron halos are deduced from these scaling laws. Based on the investigation on the probability of finding the valence nucleon outside the range of the interaction potential, a 2p3/2 halo state in 47S is anticipated for the first time. These obtained results might provide reference for searching for p-wave neutron halos in nuclei up to the second p-shell.

We study the level structures of N = 7 ~ 9 isotones and their mirror nuclei in the framework of the single-particle potential model. Considering the limitation of the conventional potential-model calculation, the isospin-dependent l2 coupling is newly introduced in the average potential. The modified model gives a unified description for the structures of all studied nuclei. Calculations self-consistently produce the s-d level inversion in N = 9 isotones and their mirror nuclei. Meanwhile, the s-p level inversion in the mirror nuclei 11Be and 11N is reproduced. The study confirms the neutron halo structures in 11Be(2s1/2), 11Be(1p1/2), 12B(2s1/2), 14B(2s1/2), 13C(2s1/2), 15C(2s1/2) and the proton halo structure in 17F(2s1/2). The agreement between theory and experiment indicates that the inclusion of the l2 coupling is a feasible way to explain the abnormal structures of exotic light nuclei.

An Ising-type atom-atom interaction is obtained in a fibre-connected three-atom system. The interaction is effective when ? ? ?0 ? g. The preparations of remote two-atom and three-atom entanglements governed by this interaction are discussed in a specific parameter region. The overall two-atom entanglement is very small because of the existence of the third atom. However, the three-atom entanglement can reach a maximum very close to 1.

The properties of N = 7,8,9 isotones with Z = 4−8 are studied in the framework of the single-particle shell model. A tentative orbit–orbit coupling is introduced in the average nuclear potential. Calculations give a unified description of the structures of N=7,8,9 isotones. The neutron level inversion in N = 7 and N = 9 isotones is discussed. The ground-state level inversion in 11Be and 15C is reproduced. The inversion between 2s1/2 and 1d5/2 neutron levels in 14B and 13Be is predicted. The possible halo structures in N = 7 and N = 9 isotones are analysed. The numerical results confirm the one-neutron halo structures in 11Be(2s1/2), 11Be(1p1/2), 12B(2s1/2), 13C(2s1/2), 14B(2s1/2) and 15C(2s1/2). The study implies that the attempt of considering orbit–orbit interaction in the shell model may be a feasible way to explain the anomalous properties of exotic light nuclei.

The thermal entanglement of spin-1 atoms with nonlinear coupling in an optical lattice chain is investigated for two-particle and multi-particle systems. It is found that the relation between linear coupling and nonlinear coupling is the key to determine thermal entanglement, which shows in what kinds of atoms thermal entanglement exists. This result is true both for two-particle and multi-particle systems. For multi-particle systems, the thermal entanglement does not decrease greatly and the critical temperature decreases only slightly.

We study that two atoms simultaneously interact with a single mode thermal field via different couplings and different spontaneous emission rates when two-photon process is involved. It is found that we indeed can employ the different couplings to produce the two-atom thermal entanglement in two-photon process. The different atomic spontaneous emission rates are also utilizable in generating thermal entanglement. We also investigate the effect of the cavity leakage. To the initial atomic state , a slight leakage can relieve the restriction of interaction time so that we can obtain a strong and steady entanglement.

Completely solving the dissipative dynamics of nonlinear Jaynes–Cumming model is a very difficult task. In our recent work (Phys. Lett. A284 (2001) 156), we just obtained analytical results of the field dissipative dynamics of the nonlinear JCM. In the present paper, employing the perturbative expansion of master equation, we obtain the density operator of the system (field +atom). The coherence losses of the system and of the atom are investigated when two-photon process is involved. We also study the effect of different atomic initial states and the influence of the field amplitude on the atomic coherence loss.

The dissipation of the field in the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model (JCM) with degenerate atomic levels was studied. The initial degenerate atomic state affects the field coherence loss. When the degenerate atom is initially in an equal probability superposition state, the field coherence loss is smallest. It is found that the degeneracy of the atomic level increases the period of entanglement between the atom and the field. When the degeneracy was considered, the coherence properties of the field could be affected by the reservoir qualitatively, if a nonlinear two-photon process is involved. This is different from the dissipation of one-photon JCM with degenerate atomic levels.

We develop a design of a hybrid quantum interface for quantum information transfer (QIT), adopting a nanomechanical resonator as the intermedium, which is magnetically coupled with individual nitrogen-vacancy centers as the solid qubits, while capacitively coupled with a coplanar waveguide resonator as the quantum data bus. We describe the Hamiltonian of the model, and analytically demonstrate the QIT for both the resonant interaction and large detuning cases. The hybrid quantum interface allows for QIT between arbitrarily selected individual nitrogen-vacancy centers, and has advantages of the scalability and controllability. Our methods open an alternative perspective for implementing QIT, which is important during quantum storing or processing procedures in quantum computing.

Dense Si nanostructures embedded in silicon nitride prepared by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) was used as luminescence active layer to fabricate light-emitting diodes based on p-Si/SiN-based emitter/AZO structure. Visible electroluminescence from the device was observed at room temperature. It is found that the electroluminescence intensity of the device can be further enhanced significantly by inserting an ultrathin nanocrystalline Si layer between the p-Si substrate and SiN-based emitter as a hole barrier layer. Moreover, the electroluminescence efficiency is increased by more than 80% as compared to the decice without the nc-Si barrier layer.
