Abstract

Although the efficiency of perovskite solar cells is over 25%, there is still a big difference between the open-circuit voltage and its theoretical value, which is ascribed to defects in the perovskite films. Here, 4-iodo-1H-imidazole is introduced into a perovskite precursor to prevent defect formation in final films. The open-circuit voltage is significantly elevated to 1.209 V from 1.085 V. 4-Iodo-1H-imidazole, as a kind of small organic molecule, can not only reduce pin-holes in perovskite films by participating in the growth of perovskite crystals, but also suppress the generation of defects, resulting in decreased nonradiative recombination. Finally, the device efficiency becomes 21.68%, which is increased by 20% in comparison with that of the control device (17.87%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

17. Effect of Yttrium-Incorporated TiO2Electron Transport Layer on the Photovoltaic Performance of Triple-Cation Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract

Achieving an excellent electron transport layer is significant for high-performance perovskite solar cells. A TiO2compact film is extensively applied as an electron transport layer. However, some limiting issues, such as unfavorable band offset, unsatisfactory electrical conductivity, low electron mobility, and high-density defects, remain in the TiO2electron transport layer. In this work, yttrium (Y) is proposed as a dopant in the TiO2electron transport layer. It is revealed that the incorporation of Y promotes the Fermi energy level of TiO2shift upward, bringing about more favorable energy-level alignment for the transport of photogenerated carriers. In addition, the device assembled with a Y-TiO2electron transport layer exhibits an increased built-in potential, suggesting a more powerful driving force for charge separation and transport. Eventually, the triple-cation perovskite solar cell equipped with a Y-TiO2electron transport layer acquires an efficiency of 20.09%. It is superior to that of the TiO2-based device (17.28%). The results indicate that Y-ion doping is a promising method to fabricate highly efficient perovskite solar cells.
