SUMMARY Diabetes is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Despite recommendations and available therapeutic options, patients with diabetes do not always reach the recommended lipid levels. In this study, our aim was to compare the real world lipid profile of type 2 diabetes patients with guideline recommendations for dyslipidemia. Four hundred and sixty eight consecutive patients referred to Outpatient Diabetes Clinic of Istanbul Medeniyet University were recruited. Patient anthropometric measurements (height, weight, waist circumference), biochemical test results (LDL cholesterol (LDL-c), triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, HbA1c) and treatment modalities were recorded. Patients were stratified into cardiovascular risk categories according to the risk factors and their treatment dose was compared to the recommendations. Among 468 patients, 56 (12%) patients had coronary heart disease (CHD). Thirty-four percent of these patients were not on statin treatment (n=19) and their mean LDL-c level was 114±29 mg/dL (2.9±0.75 mmol/L). Nineteen percent of these patients were on high intensity statin treatment (atorvastatin 40-80 mg, rosuvastatin 20 mg). Only four patients with CHD had LDL-c levels

Obesity is one of the most common comorbidities of diabetes mellitus (DM) whose frequency is rapidly increasing nowadays. Although obesity caused by excessive and unbalanced nutrition often accompanies diabetes; malnutrition is another complication of diabetes. This study was conducted to investigate the frequency of malnutrition in individuals with diabetes.This study is a cross-sectional study. The patients with type 2 diabetes followed up in the diabetes outpatient clinic of a university hospital between February and March 2018 were included in the study. Anthropometric measurements of the patients and "Nutritional Risk Screening-2002" (NRS-2002) scores were recorded.A total of 222 (F:132 59.4%) patients were included in the study. When two groups with higher NRS (≥3) and lower NRS (3) scores less than 3 were compared, any significant difference was not detected between two groups in terms of age, waist circumference and HbA1c values. Only BMI was found to be lower in the group with malnutrition risk (p:0.030). When the patients were evaluated in terms of diabetes treatments and risk of malnutrition, any significant intergroup difference was not found (p:0.847).It was found that there is a risk of malnutrition in one of every seven diabetics with a high body mass index who were being followed up in the diabetes outpatient clinic.Günümüzde sıklığı hızla artmakta olan diabetes mellitusun (DM) en sık komorbiditelerin-den biri obezitedir. Aşırı ve dengesiz beslenmenin yol açtığı obezite, sıklıkla diyabete eşlik etse de; malnütrisyon da diyabetin bir diğer komplikasyonu olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışma diyabetli bireylerdeki malnütrisyon riski sıklığının incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır.Bu çalışma kesitsel bir çalışmadır. Şubat 2018 - Mart 2018 tarihleri arasında bir üniver-site hastanesinin diyabet polikliniğinde takip edilen tip 2 diyabetli hastalar çalışmaya dahil edildi. Hastaların antropometrik ölçümleri ve “Nutritional Risk Screening-2002” (NRS-2002) skorları ka-yıt altına alınmıştır.Çalışmaya 222 (Kadın: 132, %59,4) hasta alındı. NRS skoru yüksek (NRS≥3) olan ve (NRS3) olan iki grup karşılaştırıldığında, yaş, bel çevresi ve HbA1c açısından iki grup arasında da anlamlı bir fark yoktu. Malnütrisyon riski olan grupta sadece BKİ daha düşük bulundu (p=0.030). Hastalar diyabet tedavileri ve malnütrisyon riski açısından değerlendirildiğinde tedavi ve malnüt-risyon riski açısından fark saptanmadı (p=0.847).Yapılan çalışmada diyabet polikliniğinde takip edilmekte olan ve beden kütle indeksi yük-sek olan her yedi diyabetliden birinde malnütrisyon riskinin mevcut olduğu görülmüştür.

Introduction Vitamin D was associated with the pathogenesis, treatment and prognosis of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The aim of this study is to assess vitamin D status of Turkish adult type 1 DM patients and compare them with health controls and also to assess the relationship of vitamin D and glycemic control. Method Study was designed as cross-sectional and conducted in a tertiary Hospital diabetes unit. 296 type diabetic patients and 151 healthy controls was included to the study. Venous samples were collected into plain tubes after overnight fasting. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D level was measured by radioimmunoassay technique. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 15.0. Results 25-Hydroxyvitamin D levels were similar between patients with type 1 diabetes (22, 9 ± 17, 4 ng/ml) and controls (24, 5 ± 19, 3 ng/ml) (p = 0,382). Most of the participants have 25-Hydroxyvitamin D deficiency. As shown in Table 2 serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D level was not associated with most of the biochemical or anthropometric parameters. Conclusion As a result there were no difference between type 1 diabetics and healthy controls according to their vitamin D levels. Further studies with a larger sample of patients will improve our understanding of the relation of vitamin D and diabetes.

Aim: The aim was to analyze the outcome of pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma patients treated with doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine,and dacarbazine (ABVD) chemotherapy adjuvant radiotherapy according to the risk groups and determine the adverse prognosticfactors affecting survival in Hodgkin lymphoma.Material and Methods: A retrospective study was performed on 52 pediatric patients with Hodgkin lymphoma who were treated withABVD between 1997 and 2018. Patients with early-stage favorable disease received 4 cycles of ABVD radiotherapy. Early-stageunfavorable and advanced-stage patients received 6 cycles of ABVD radiotherapy.Results: Thirty (57.7%) boys and 22 (42.3%) girls were included in the study. The median age of the patients was 9 years and 3months (1 year and 10 month – 17 years and 7 months). Overall survival rate was 94.2% and the mean survival time was 19.50.70(95% CI, 18.1 - 20.9) years. The mean event-free survival time was 9.56.5 years. Overall survival rate was 90%, and the meanevent-free survival time was 8.26.1 years in early-stage favorable disease. Overall survival rate was 100%, and the mean eventfreesurvival time was 1.97.0 years in early-stage unfavorable disease. Overall survival rate was 94.1 %, and the mean event-freesurvival time was 8.96.3 years in advanced-stage disease. Presence of bulky disease, nodular sclerosing histologic subtype andleukocytosis had a negative prognostic effect on relapse and bulky disease had adverse effect on overall survival (p0.05).Conclusion: Four courses of ABVD chemotherapy radiotherapy (IFRT or ISRT) in early-stage favorable patients and 6 courses ofABVD chemotherapy radiotherapy (IFRT or ISRT) in both early-stage unfavorable and advanced-stage Hodgkin lymphoma patientsbenefited from promising outcomes in terms of OS and FFS.Presence of bulky disease, nodular sclerosing histologic subtype and leukocytosis have adverse prognostic effects on relapse andpresence of bulky disease have adverse effect on OS.

Aim: DM is a disease that causes immune incompetence due to various reasons. Therefore, the risk of infectious disease and the risk of complications, morbidity and mortality related to infectious disease in diabetic patients are increased compared to healthy adults. Patients with DM are advised to get vaccinated for influenza once every year, tetanus every 10 years, hepatitis B if they did not complete their routine vaccinations and pneumococcus for once. Researches reveal the lack of adult vaccination awareness, even in high risk group of patients. This study is designed to determine the adult vaccination rates (VR) in diabetic patients who are in routine follow-up in our outpatient diabetes clinic. Methods and Findings: Diabetic patients that applied to Istanbul Medeniyet University Goztepe Training and Research Hospital Diabetes Outpatient Clinic between January and July 2017 were included in the study. Patients were selected by simple random sampling and their demographic data were recorded. Patients were asked if they were vaccinated for influenza in last year, tetanus in last 10 years, hepatitis B and pneumococcus. In the 846 (535 female, 311 male) type 2 DM patients that were included in the study, the average age was 58.7(32-86) and the average years with diabetes was 11,2(1-50). VR were 17.6% (n=149) for influenza, 18.6% (n=157) for tetanus, 8.6% (n=73) for hepatitis B and 5.4% (n=46) for pneumococcus. Results and Discussion: This study demonstrates that adult VR in our diabetic patients are inadequate. Adult vaccination policy programs recommend the aim of 90% influenza and 60% pneumococcus VR. Even though our population consists of diabetes patients with seemingly high consciousness levels, attending their regular doctor appointments, their VR are far below the targeted rates. The fact that unvaccination rates are exceeding 80% for influenza and 90% for pneumococcus points out to the significance of increasing adult VR as a health issue of priority and urgency in diabetic patients. OBJECTIVES: Celiac disease, an autoimmune disease, is related to immune mediated intolerance to gluten. Some studies suggest that Celiac Disease was 20 times more frequent in type 1 patients with diabetes. The objective of our study was to evaluate the prevalence of celiac disease in hospital based type 1 diabetic adults. METHODS: Our study was carried out retrospectively in Medeniyet University Goztepe Training and Educational Hospital in Istanbul between 2012-2013. The cohort comprised 482 type 1 patients with diabetes attending the diabetes outpatient clinic. The data were analyzed by SPSS 10.5 package program. Student's t tests is used for comparative analyses. A p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: The cohort included 482 type 1 patients with diabetes. Fifty seven of them were not evaluated for Endomysium antibody positivity. Fifteen of the remaining 425 patients were positive for anti endomysial antibody (3.5%). The prevalence of biopsy proven celiac disease was 2.3% (10/425). There was no significant difference between Endomysial antibody positive and negative groups in regard of age, sex, or duration of the disease. CONCLUSION: This study confirms that the celiac disease is common in type 1 diabetic patients. Since a small proportion of celiac patients are symptomatic this disorder should be screened in all adult type 1 patients with diabetes by antiendomysium antibody.
