ABSTRACT: Aim: The current study's objective was to assess and contrast the benefits of herbal and chemical mouthwash in patients with persistent, widespread gingivitis. Material and Method: Forty-five patients between the ages of 30 and 50 having persistent generalized gingivitis were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to three groups: Group A received oral prophylaxis, group B received oral prophylaxis and prescribed chemical mouthwash, group C received oral prophylaxis and prescribed herbal mouthwash. The patients were under observation for forty-five days. At the baseline, 7th, 30th, and 45th day gingival index was measured, and the data were statistically analyzed. The one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc test were performed. Result: The gingival index showed a significant difference. Over time, the gingival index tends to decrease with the use of herbal mouthwash. Conclusion: In summary, our initial investigation demonstrates that herbal mouthwashes are just as successful in reducing gingival inflammation as chlorhexidine further significant difference observed in 30th and 45th day with chlorhexidine. Therefore, in addition to routine dental care, these ayurvedic medications can be taken to reduce gingivitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT: Objective: The goal of this investigation is to assess the palatal rugae patterns in male and female participants from the Bhopal Division population. Material and Methods: A randomly selected cohort of 104 individuals, consisting of 47 males and 57 females, was included in the study. Both metric and non-metric characteristics of the palatal rugae were documented and analyzed using two-sample t-tests and chi-square tests, with a significance threshold set at 5%. Results: No significant difference was observed in the total number of rugae between genders. However, the mean number of primary rugae was significantly higher in males (P = 0.038). In contrast, females exhibited a higher mean number of vertical (P < 0.001) and fragmentary rugae (P = 0.004), with these differences achieving statistical significance. Conclusion: The rugae pattern demonstrates potential as a gender-differentiating characteristic, serving as a supplementary method to traditional techniques such as cranial anthropometry and dental analysis. Background: Periodontal disease, characterized by inflammation and infection of the supporting structures of teeth, poses a significant oral health challenge. Traditional periodontal surgery and non-surgical therapy, such as scaling and root planing, are established treatment approaches for addressing periodontal disease. Materials and Methods: The study enrolled 120 adult patients diagnosed with moderate to severe periodontal disease. Participants were randomly allocated to one of two groups: the traditional surgery group (TSG) or the non-surgical therapy group (NSTG). In the TSG, patients underwent traditional periodontal surgery, which included flap surgery and grafts when deemed necessary. The surgical procedures were performed by experienced periodontal surgeons. In contrast, the NSTG received non-surgical therapy in the form of scaling and root planing administered by trained dental hygienists. Outcome measures encompassed clinical parameters and patient-centered outcomes. Periodontal pocket depth and clinical attachment level, both measured in millimeters, were assessed at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months. Patient-reported outcomes, including pain, discomfort, and satisfaction, were collected through standardized questionnaires at each follow-up visit. Results: Patients in the TSG experienced a notable reduction in pocket depth from a baseline of 6.8 mm to 3.7 mm at the 6-month mark, resulting in a change of -3.1 mm. Conversely, the NSTG exhibited a reduction from 6.7 mm to 4.0 mm, with a change of -2.7 mm. In the TSG, the baseline attachment level of 7.2 mm decreased to 5.1 mm at 6 months, indicating a change of -2.1 mm. In the NSTG, the attachment level decreased from 7.1 mm to 5.5 mm, resulting in a change of -1.6 mm. Patients in the TSG reported an average pain score of 3.6 on a 1–10 scale, discomfort of 4.2, and satisfaction of 7.8. In contrast, patients in the NSTG reported lower pain (2.1) and discomfort (2.9) scores but similar satisfaction levels (8.4). Conclusion: In this randomized controlled trial (RCT), both traditional periodontal surgery and non-surgical therapy demonstrated improvements in clinical parameters and patient-reported outcomes. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a malignant neoplasm of myeloid series defined by the presence of immature blast cells (<30%) in peripheral circulation. Oral manifestations are the potential indicators of systemic health and disease. Oral cavity is the frequently and early involved sites in AML. Gingival overgrowth due to leukemia is one such condition encountered by periodontists. Hence, understanding, identifying, and correlating oral manifestations with systemic diseases are the ultimate responsibility of every dental clinician because of its lethal and unpredictable course. The administration of local anesthesia constitutes one of the most anxiety-inducing and painful stimuli in pediatric dentistry. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the effectiveness of vibrating device in comparison to the conventional method for mitigating discomfort while administration of local anesthesia. A total of 30 children aged between 6 and 10 years, requiring local anesthesia for routine dental treatment, were allocated into two groups: a control group and an experimental group, with 15 children in each cohort. In the experimental group, a vibrating device was concurrently placed over the cheek during the administration of the local anesthesia. Pain and discomfort were assessed using both the Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale (WBFPRS) and the FLACC (Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, CONSOL ability) scale.
