Lichtenstein open hernioplasty is probably the most widely used technique worldwide for the primary repair of inguinal hernia. It is a simple and safe procedure, which can be performed under local anesthesia, and is associated with a very low morbidity and a recurrence rate lower than 0.5%. Using adhesives to fix the mesh instead of sutures reduces operating surgical, acute postoperative pain and could have a beneficial impact on the incidence of chronic pain, without increasing complications or the rate of hernia recurrence. The objective of the following article is to describe the main technical steps of Lichtenstein hernioplasty for the treatment of primary inguinal hernia, using cyanoacrylate (Histoacryl®) instead of sutures for mesh fixation., La hernioplastia abierta de Lichtenstein es probablemente la técnica más empleada mundialmente para la reparación primaria de la hernia inguinal. Se trata de un procedimiento simple, seguro, reproducible, que puede realizarse bajo anestesia local, se asocia a una muy baja morbilidad y tiene un índice de recurrencia inferior al 0,5%. Emplear adhesivos para fijar la malla en lugar de suturas reduce el tiempo quirúrgico, el dolor postoperatorio y podría tener un impacto beneficioso en la incidencia de dolor crónico, sin incrementar las complicaciones ni la tasa de recurrencia herniaria. El objetivo del siguiente artículo es describir los principales pasos técnicos de la hernioplastia de Lichtenstein para el tratamiento de la hernia inguinal primaria con la variante de emplear un cianoacrilato (Histoacryl®) para la fijación de la malla en lugar de la sutura habitual.
