INTRODUZIONE: Il problema dell’obesità e del sovrappeso in età infantile ha assunto particolare rilevanza in Sanità Pubblica. In Italia circa 1 milione di bambini è in eccesso ponderale. Nella società contemporanea, molte sono le famiglie nelle quali entrambi i genitori lavorano e spesso i nonni si prendono cura dei nipoti, occupandosi anche della loro alimentazione. L’obiettivo di questo studio è stato quello di comprendere il ruolo percepito delle nonne sulle abitudini alimentari dei bambini in età prescolare attraverso la percezione delle mamme. MATERIALI E METODI: Indagine qualitativa, condotta con metodologia fenomenologica secondo Cohen, incentrata sull’intervista di dieci donne con almeno un figlio/figlia in età prescolare (4-6 anni) che hanno dichiarano l’aiuto da parte delle nonne. Il campionamento di convenienza è stato effettuato presso dell’Associazione di Promozione Sociale “Neomamme” nella città di Monopoli (BA), dal Settembre 2017 all’Ottobre 2017. RISULTATI: Dall’analisi fenomenologica sono emersi i seguenti temi: • Il tempo con i nonni, all’interno del quale è emerso il sottotema relativo alla disciplina alimentare adottata o meno dalle figure di accudimento; • Il cibo ed il senso di colpa; • La percezione dell’aspetto del bambino, all’interno del quale è emerso il sottotema relativo alle strategie per evitare il sovrappeso. DISCUSSIONE: L’analisi fenomenologica ha evidenziato l’importanza del supporto dei nonni (in particolare della nonna materna) nell’educazione alimentare. I nonni paterni appaiono indulgenti (spesso in relazione al tempo limitato che trascorrono con i nipoti) e tendono ad utilizzare il cibo come veicolo di emozioni positive. L’analisi ha evidenziato inoltre l’inclinazione della maggior parte delle madri ad utilizzare il gioco o la lettura piuttosto che il cibo come strumento per compensare la propria lontananza durante la giornata. Dall’analisi è,inoltre, emerso che le madri hanno una percezione nella norma della corporeità dei loro bambini e che ciò è il risultato della combinazione di attenzione alla dieta e attività sportiva.

Introduction: Palliative home care is essential for terminally ill patients. This integrated approach is not limited to physical care, but also embraces the psychological, social and spiritual aspects of the patient. This model of care, focused on the patient and their family, aims to ensure quality health care during the advanced stage of a disease. In addition, by reducing the need for hospital admissions, palliative home care reduces costs, providing a sustainable alternative for the health system. Objective: To describe the knowledge related to the clinical, emotional and economic impact of palliative home care in cancer patients Materials and Methods: A narrative review was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Cinahl and Cochrane Library between December 2023 and March 2024, using the Population, Intervention, Outcome (PIO) methodology. The survey generated 551 articles, of which only 6 were relevant to the study. The selection of studies was guided by inclusion and exclusion criteria, with a quality assessment using the Dixon Woods instrument. Results: The studies included in the review have demonstrated a positive and significant impact of palliative home care on the well-being and quality of life of terminal cancer patients. Some of these studies have examined the clinical efficacy of such treatments in mitigating the patient's symptoms, with conflicting results: while some have shown positive efficacy, others have not found the same result. Regarding the cost-effectiveness, the analysis highlighted a lack of definitive evidence on the possible economic advantage of palliative home care compared to hospital care. Conclusions: Palliative home care emerges as a crucial element in the nursing care of the terminally ill cancer patient: it offers essential psychological support, enabling patients to feel understood and listened to with regard to their needs and requirements. However, there are some discrepancies, particularly with regard to economic effects and symptom control.

Introduction Digital competencies are essential for nurses to actively participate in the digitisation of healthcare systems. Therefore, it is important to assess their skill levels to identify strengths and areas for improvement.Method and analysis This study aims to investigate nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, subjective norms and behavioural control regarding digital health. A knowledge-attitude-practice model guided the development of a structured questionnaire divided into six sections. A sample of 480 registered nurses of Naples will be involved in the study. After conducting a pretest, an invitation will be publicised through the institutional communication channels of Nurses Provincial Order of Naples. Nurses will respond via a unique link or quick response code sent through a PEC email system (a legally valid email system, which guarantees delivery and receipt). They will have 30 days to complete the survey, scheduled between May and July 2024.Ethics and dissemination No ethics committee approval was required, as the study does not involve minors, direct or indirect physical or physiological harm to participants, or clinical trials. Anonymity will be guaranteed at all data collection and processing levels. The results will be broadly distributed through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications. The effective use of digital technologies by healthcare professionals can bring significant improvements to healthcare services and help improve the health of individuals and community health. The study’s findings will serve as a foundation for developing and implementing educational programmes related to eHealth and telemedicine, promoting the harmonisation of such programmes.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), encompassing ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, is a heterogeneous chronic condition characterized by periods of relapse and remission. Ulcerative colitis involves inflammation of the colon and rectum mucosa, while Crohn's disease causes deeper, transmural inflammation affecting all four gut layers from the mouth to the anus and can lead to complications such as fistulation. IBD significantly impacts patients' physical and psychological well-being, thus reducing their quality of life (QoL). We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing intervention facilitated through telephone and email support in improving the quality of life (QoL) of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients. Methods: A pilot comparative observational design with pre-test and post-test assessments was employed, involving 50 participants assigned to either an intervention group (Group A, n = 26) or a control group (Group B, n = 24). Group A received regular telephone consultations and prompt email responses from trained nurses; Group B received standard care. Data were collected at baseline and six months post-intervention (T1) using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS®) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Results: Group A showed significant improvements in anxiety, depression, fatigue, and sleep quality, with p-values indicating the significance of these findings. Conclusions: Tailored nursing support via remote communication significantly benefits IBD patients by alleviating psychological distress and enhancing their overall well-being, underscoring the importance of integrating such interventions into standard IBD care practices. Background: Food allergy (FA)-related bullying is a significant public health concern affecting pediatric patients. This systematic review investigates the prevalence, characteristics, and psychosocial impact of FA-related bullying, as well as current intervention strategies within educational and healthcare settings. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted across the PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL databases, covering publications up to February 2024. The review followed PRISMA guidelines and included studies on children and adolescents (0–18 years) diagnosed with FAs. Studies were selected based on eligibility criteria and assessed for quality using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale. Results: The initial search identified a total of 260 records (6 from scientific databases and 254 from registries). Twenty-six studies met the inclusion criteria. The findings of these studies reveal that FA-related bullying is prevalent, with rates varying between 17% and 60%, depending on the study population and methods. Bullying often involves verbal teasing, social exclusion, and physical threats using allergens, presenting both psychological and physical risks. Psychological consequences include increased anxiety, depression, and social withdrawal, which persist over time, significantly impacting quality of life for both children and their families. Notably, bullying often occurs in school settings, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions. Conclusion: FA-related bullying profoundly affects mental health and quality of life for affected children and their families. Interventions, such as school-based allergy education programs and policies promoting inclusivity and safety, have shown promise in reducing bullying incidents. A collaborative approach involving healthcare providers, educators, and policymakers is essential to mitigate the impact of FA-related bullying and improve outcomes for affected children. Background: Patient diaries are a supportive intervention aiding intensive care unit (ICU) survivors and their families post‐critical illness. Despite their growing acceptance, ICU diary usage varies across settings. Aim: This study explored themes in nurse‐written ICU diaries and their impact on nursing work and communication. Study Design: This qualitative study employed an interpretative narrative methodology to explore the experiences of ICU nurses. The narrative approach enabled the synthesis of diverse events and impressions into coherent stories, facilitating a deeper understanding of participants' perspectives. Data collection involved thematic analysis of diaries following Braun and Clarke's methodology. The analysis included familiarization, coding, theme identification and validation by the research team. The findings were reviewed by participants and translated into English using the WHO's cultural adaptation guidelines, ensuring reliability and credibility in the study's outcomes. Results: The sample consisted of 28 ICU nurses, each with professional experience ranging from 1 to 23 years. The hospitalized subjects for whom our sample wrote the diary consist of 13 participants aged 23–79 years. Two main themes emerged from the analysis: (1) simplifying the intensive care situation with specific minimization strategies and (2) attention to nonverbal communication. Conclusions: This study highlights the role of nurse‐written ICU diaries in making the ICU environment more understandable and less intimidating for patients. Nurse‐written ICU diaries contribute to improved communication and emotional support within the ICU environment. Further research is needed to explore these effects more fully and to assess the broader implications of ICU diaries on patient outcomes. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Nurse‐written intensive care unit (ICU) diaries have a significant impact on both patient care and nursing practice in ICUs. ICU diaries serve as a crucial tool for enhancing communication, emotional support and empathetic care within these high‐stress environments. By simplifying complex medical information and focusing on nonverbal communication, nurses can make the ICU experience more comprehensible and less intimidating for patients. Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and food neophobia present significant challenges in pediatric healthcare, particularly among children with food allergies (FAs). These eating disorders, characterized by the persistent avoidance or restriction of food, can lead to severe nutritional deficiencies and psychosocial impairments. The presence of FAs further complicates these eating behaviors, as the fear of allergic reactions exacerbates avoidance and restrictive patterns. This comprehensive review synthesizes current knowledge on ARFID and food neophobia, focusing on their definitions, characteristics, and the unique challenges they present in the context of FAs. The review explores the critical role of healthcare professionals, especially nurses, in integrating psychological and clinical care to improve outcomes for affected children. A multidisciplinary approach, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Family-Based Therapy (FBT), is emphasized as essential in addressing the complex needs of these patients. The review also highlights the need for standardized treatment protocols and further research on the long-term outcomes of these disorders, aiming to enhance therapeutic strategies and family support systems. Effective management of ARFID and food neophobia in the context of FAs requires a holistic and integrated approach to mitigate the profound impacts on a child's growth, development, and overall well-being. Abstract Background The management of chronic diseases, particularly in children, requires an integrated physical and psychological approach to both sick children and their family. This is the case of Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a complex genetic chronic disease, where, a comprehensive evaluation of the emotional impact and an effective multidimensional approach are indicated. Aim This study investigates on parenting stress in children and adolescents with CF and its determinants related to parents, children and the disease severity. Methods The study involved 34.04% adult males and 65.96% adult females (range 21-55 years) and 47 children with CF, 54.35% males and 45.65% females (range 1-17 years). The data were obtained through a Parenting Stress Index – Short Form (PSI-SF) questionnaire. According to the PSI-SF scoring system, three types of stress were detected: a typical stress pattern (normal), a high stress pattern (increased) and a defensive response, which may be considered as a high stress feature in children which requires monitoring and clinical evaluation. Results This study shows a significant presence of stress in females (60.23%), of subject married (84.62%), unemployed (69.23%) and with education level such as “middle School” (61.54%). Concerning children of parents with high stress, it resulted most frequent children with one sibling (53.85%). Finally, by univariate analysis, it resulted a significant positive correlation between parenting stress and disease degree of children. Instead by multivariate analysis, we found that the variables: Number of siblings and Birth order were a significant positive and negative predictor of parenting stress respectively. Conclusion An increased stress level was detected in less than one third of parents of subjects with CF. These data may be related to the psychological support which is part of the routine management of CF care team. However, as children’s features seem to act as a determinant of stress more than parental ones, the parental-child dysfunction should be the target for further integrated interventions.

Aims and Objectives: This review aims to analyze the effectiveness of motivational interviewing (MI) in enhancing therapeutic adherence and compliance in adult patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), especially considering the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Background: IBD, which includes conditions such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, affects over 10 million people globally. It significantly impacts both physical and psychological well-being, leading to challenges in therapeutic adherence. Only 25–47% of patients with IBD adequately follow prescribed treatments. Design and Methods: An integrative methodology that combines qualitative and quantitative research was utilized, following a 7-step framework. This framework encompasses identifying the research question, devising a search strategy, performing a critical appraisal, summarizing findings, extracting data, conducting an analysis, and drawing conclusions. Results: Poor adherence to therapy among patients with IBD can exacerbate disease progression and result in complications. MI has been identified as a promising approach to improving both adherence and treatment outcomes. Studies, including those predating the COVID-19 pandemic, have demonstrated MI's effectiveness in enhancing adherence among patients with IBD. Conclusions: MI shows promise in enhancing adherence among adult patients with IBD. Although initial results are promising, additional research is needed to thoroughly understand its effectiveness across various clinical contexts. Relevance to Clinical Practice: The findings underscore the potential of MI as an integral component of IBD treatment strategies, suggesting that its implementation could enhance patient–provider interactions and lead to better overall health outcomes. Introduzione: La Malattia Renale Cronica è diventata un importante problema di salute globale, con una prevalenza che va da 8% a 16% nella popolazione adulta. Il paziente con Malattia Renale all’ultimo Stadio in trattamento con emodialisi, deve aderire ad una terapia complessa, impegnativa e di lunga durata. Il controllo dei fluidi nei pazienti in dialisi rappresenta un importante fattore predittivo di esito ma è una restrizione difficile da raggiungere. La percezione della self-efficacy risulta avere un ruolo fondamentale nell’aderenza terapeutica; pertanto l’obiettivo della revisione è stato quello di identificare le relazioni tra la self-efficacy nei soggetti in trattamento emodialitico e il livello di adesione al corretto introito di liquidi. Materiali e Metodi: La revisione è stata condotta utilizzando il database PubMed, nel periodo tra gennaio 2007 ed agosto 2017. Sono stati inclusi studi primari, revisioni sistematiche e Linee Guida. Le parole chiave utilizzate sono state Malattia Renale allo Stadio Terminale; emodialisi, auto-efficacia; restrizione di liquidi. Risultati/Discussione: Dalla revisione è emerso che la self-efficacy è stata positivamente correlata con la cura di sé. Pertanto è necessaria la rilevazione del livello di self-efficacy per la valutazione predittiva dell’aderenza alla restrizione dei liquidi. Programmi di miglioramento, di autogestione e di auto-efficacia possono influenzare l’aderenza al controllo di liquidi nei soggetti affetti da malattia renale cronica in trattamento emodialitico.

Background: Healthcare rehabilitator skills can be grouped into hard and soft skills. Hard skills are specific and teachable, which can be defined and measured, while soft skills are less tangible and more difficult to quantify. The aim of this study is to investigate the level of knowledge of soft skills among Italian healthcare rehabilitators, and how they were acquired. Design and Methods: Two hundred healthcare rehabilitators, who worked in Southern Italy were enrolled from September 1st to October 31st 2017, and interviewed with Computer-Assisted-Web-Interview (CAWI) software, to assess their level of soft skills. Results: Healthcare rehabilitators showed significant satisfaction with university education (59.5%), particularly for theoretical training (64%), while significant dissatisfaction was found for technical-practical training (63.5%), training in patients’ family management (66.5%) and stages participation to improve soft skills (59%). Dissatisfied rehabilitators were found for university education of soft skills (59%), particularly for interpersonal relationships with patients family (66.5%) and technical-practical train in(63.5%). Women considered the training courses about soft skills acquisition more useful than men (43.8%). Conclusions: Healthcare rehabilitator training is lacking in the teaching of both technical-practical and soft skills. It is striking that in a healthcare profession like that of the rehabilitator, where practical and empathic skills are fundamental in the relationship with the patients, such skills are not treated in analogously with theoretical training.

This paper discusses the use of advanced mathematical tools in nursing research, such as mathematical models used in medicine for description and prediction of experimental tumor growth. They are rarely used in nursing research, but fortunately in the last decade, their use is increased, particularly due to the artificial intelligence and Big Data, with great benefits for further development of nursing. Therefore, a strong interaction between nurses and mathematicians is needed to improve nursing research, and consequently the nurses performance in daily work.

L’Area dell’emergenza-urgenza è un luogo di cura nella quale i pazienti sono essenzialmente sconosciuti e potenzialmente gravemente malati o feriti. L’infermiere di Pronto Soccorso (PS), può rappresentare il driver di cura e di sostegno anche per le famiglie. Il processo di fornire le cura di fine vita per i pazienti morenti e sostegno alle loro famiglie, viene sottovalutato e c’è poca ricerca disponibile a supporto del contributo e delle azioni dell’infermiere di emergenza nel fine vita1. D’altra parte le morti improvvise e scioccanti, eventi acuti o gravi incidenti, sono parte della realtà di tali setting assistenziali nei quali, la morte, non è molto lontana dalla quotidianità di un PS2-3. Inoltre gli atteggiamenti degli infermieri verso la morte e il morire possono influenzare la qualità delle cure erogate durante le fasi critiche o terminali della vita di una persona4. Sebbene la morte sia un fenomeno universale che riguarda tutti gli esseri umani, indipendentemente dalle loro condizioni di vita, viene comunque percepita come un evento temuto e pertanto si è poco propensi a parlarne4. Ognuno ha un atteggiamento soggettivo nei confronti della morte, ha un proprio modo di affrontarla e di elaborarla. Gli operatori sanitari, in particolar modo infermieri e studenti infermieri, svolgono un importante e fondamentale ruolo nella cura e nella presa in carico di persone che stanno per morire e dei loro familiari5. I pazienti nel loro fine vita, sperimentano una varietà di bisogni che comprendono non solo i bisogni fisici, che la condizione clinica richiede ma anche bisogni spirituali e sostegno emotivo6. Prendersi cura di queste persone e dei propri cari diventa quindi una grande sfida per la pratica infermieristica perché richiede abilità emotive, professionali e quindi una buona formazione nell’approccio ai morenti. Ovviamente questo tipo di assistenza ha delle ripercussioni di non poco conto sugli operatori sanitari coinvolti. Alcuni studi infatti hanno rivelato che l’assistenza al paziente morente suscita, in coloro che erogano salute e benessere, emozioni negative come sentimenti di impotenza, paura, angoscia e ansia. Queste emozioni poi si ripercuotono inevitabilmente sull’assistenza fornita con un impatto negativo6 In uno studio condotto in Iran su 155 infermieri, afferenti ai reparti di oncologia e terapia intensiva di 3 ospedali, è emersa la correlazione tra il grado di autonomia degli infermieri e le attitudini nei confronti dei pazienti morenti7. Il maggior livello di autonomia degli infermieri influenza positivamente le abilità del prendersi cura nel fine vita8. Altro fattore che condiziona gli atteggiamenti degli infermieri e, di conseguenza l’assistenza ai pazienti morenti, è rappresentato dal livello di formazione. L’adeguata competenza professionale presuppone anche la formazione di atteggiamenti assistenziali positivi nei confronti della morte, del paziente e della sua famiglia, già dai corsi universitari di primo livello9. Una buona formazione del professionista garantisce un buon approccio e un’adeguata gestione situazionale nelle scelte e nelle decisioni dei familiari del paziente e nell’elaborazione del lutto10. È possibile dedurre quanto una buona assistenza al paziente nel fine vita sia legata ad una serie di fattori concatenati gli uni agli altri e quanto siano indispensabili per i pazienti e i loro familiari. Tutto questo contesto si amplifica e si complica notevolmente nei PS1 nei quali non lascia sempre, anzi quasi mai, spazio agli aspetti relazionali, comunicativi e al supporto emotivo ai pazienti. Il PS, erroneamente, è considerato un luogo in cui viene trattato il sintomo in emergenza e non il paziente, un posto che tralascia i vissuti delle persone perché la priorità non è lo stato psico-sociale ma esclusivamente quello fisio-patologico. Dalla letteratura emerge che gli atteggiamenti degli infermieri verso la cura per i malati terminali possono avere un importante influenza sull’assistenza erogata (Mastroianni,2015). Tali studi hanno esaminato le associazioni tra gli atteggiamenti personali verso la morte e la cura dei pazienti morenti. La maggior parte di questi studi si sono concentrati sulla figura dell’infermiere11 o studenti infermieri nella cura dei pazienti oncologici terminali. A nostro conoscenza, non ci sono studi in Italia e pochi a livello internazionale1 che hanno indagato gli atteggiamenti degli infermieri e studenti infermieri nel fine vita nelle aree di emergenza-urgenza ed in particolare in PS. Tali conoscenze potrebbero contribuire a promuovere l’adozione di atteggiamenti positivi negli infermieri e studenti infermieri, nelle cure di fine vita in PS. L’obiettivo dello studio è quello di descrivere gli atteggiamenti degli infermieri e degli studenti infermieri nelle cure di fine vita in PS. È stato condotto uno studio trasversale, nel periodo tra Giugno e Settembre 2017, con campionamento di convenienza di infermieri afferenti al PS del P.O. di “Pineta Grande” (n. 20) in provincia di Caserta ed al PS dell’A.O.R.N. “A. Cardarelli” di Napoli (n. 60). Il campione di studenti infermieri ha incluso tutti gli studenti che frequentavano il 3° anno (n. 40) del corso di laurea in Infermieristica dell’Università degli studi di Roma “Tor Vergata”, sede di Castel Volturno. La scelta di includere il 3° anno di corso è stata fatta considerando che, in linea con le attività didattiche programmate, l’insegnamento sull’infermieristica nelle cure di fine vita fosse stato completato.

Introduzione In Italia circa 3,5 milioni di donne ed 1 milione di uomini sono affetti da osteoporosi. Si tratta di una condizione emergente a causa dell’invecchiamento della popolazione, che colpisce il 50% circa delle donne dopo i 70 anni, a seguito del sopraggiungere della menopausa e dei conseguenti cambiamenti fisici. È stata riscontrata la necessità, da parte delle donne, di maggiori informazioni relative a questa patologia al fine di attuare valide strategie preventive, necessità la cui soddisfazione rientra nelle competenze infermieristiche avanzate. Obiettivi: valutazione delle conoscenze relative alle strategie preventive e l’attuazione di interventi educativi finalizzati al loro miglioramento. Materiali e metodi Il campione reclutato è costituito da pazienti afferenti agli ambulatori di Ginecologia presso due Aziende Sanitarie Locali in provincia di Napoli e Caserta, di età compresa tra i 40 ed i 70 anni alle quali è stato sottoposto un intervento preventivo finalizzato all’incremento delle conoscenze in merito all’osteoporosi, successivamente valutato attraverso l’ausilio di un questionario realizzato ad hoc sulla base dei dati raccolti in letteratura. Risultati È emerso l’intervento educativo attuato, a cui hanno partecipato 54 donne, è stato ritenuto utile, sotto ogni suo aspetto, in buona percentuale. Conclusioni Dallo studio si evince la necessità di realizzare interventi educativi finalizzati a favorire la prevenzione di questa patologia. L’esercizio di tali attività rientra tra le competenze infermieristiche e quindi la funzione educazionale dell’infermiere ha assunto una valenza complementare della funzione assistenziale e di cura.

Introduzione: I difetti cardiaci sono molto comuni nell’età pediatrica; spesso i genitori scoprono, dopo la nascita, queste patologie ed apprendono che l’intervento di cardiochirurgia è l’unica soluzione. Il ricovero del proprio bambino in una Terapia Intensiva comporta elevati livelli di stress, ansia, depressione. Gli infermieri assumono un ruolo attivo nell’assistenza del piccolo degente ma anche nella presa in carico dell’intero nucleo familiare. Obiettivo: scopo dello studio è stato descrivere l’esperienza dei genitori dei bambini ricoverati in una unità di Terapia Intensiva cardiochirurgica. Metodo: disegno ermeneutico fenomenologico secondo Cohen. Risultati: dall’analisi di 16 interviste sono emersi 3 temi principali: la paura per la possibile perdita del proprio bambino; la sensazione di aver perso il ruolo di genitore e la bisogno di ricevere maggiori informazioni per poter essere parte attiva nel processo di cure. Conclusioni: Il ricovero di un bambino in una Terapia Intensiva e, nello specifico, di cardiochirurgia, impone al personale assistenziale la presa in carico dell’intero nucleo familiare. Gli Infermieri sono i primi professionisti dai quali i genitori si attendono tale coinvolgimento. Questo studio offre uno sguardo sull’esperienza vissuta dai genitori che hanno il proprio figlio ricoverato in una Terapia Intensiva di cardiochirurgia; inoltre può rappresentare lo spunto per ulteriori ricerche finalizzate alla olistica armonizzazione tra la diade (famiglia e bambino) spesso ingiustamente scisse durante il ricovero in Terapia Intensiva.

Introduzione: Il linfedema secondario rappresenta una potenziale complicanza della linfadenectomia ascellare per il cancro della mammella. Il linfedema correlato al cancro della mammella, richiede interventi mirati basati sulle migliori evidenze scientifiche al fine di stimolare le pazienti all’osservazione di comportamenti atti a ridurne il rischio. Scopo dello studio è quello di strutturare un intervento educativo e valutare le conoscenze delle pazienti linfadenectomizzate in tema di prevenzione del linfedema. Materiali e Metodi: Studio di coorte prospettico, condotto tra maggio e agosto 2014, su pazienti sottoposte ad intervento di linfadenectomia ascellare per cancro della mammella. Le pazienti sono state suddivise in tre coorti, il primo gruppo ha ricevuto l’intervento educativo, il secondo gruppo ha ricevuto le informazioni di routine mentre il terzo gruppo era costituito da pazienti in trattamento per linfedema. Risultati: il campione è costituito da 45 pazienti, il 57.8% del campione conosce le misure preventive del linfedema; il 13,3% delle pazienti non ha ricevuto nessuna informazione; oltre il 20% del campione identifica l’infermiere come principale fonte di informazioni. Discussione: Il gruppo delle pazienti cui è stato fornito l’intervento educativo, iniziato nel preoperatorio, hanno maggiori conoscenze in tema di prevenzione, sono maggiormente consapevoli dei rischi rispetto al gruppo che ha ricevuto l’informazione di routine mentre hanno buone conoscenze le pazienti in trattamento per linfedema. Conclusione: La capacità di gestione delle pazienti migliora sensibilmente con l’aumento del grado di informazioni ricevute. L’intervento educativo inizia nella fase peri-operatoria, gli infermieri devono favorire il processo di autocura dei pazienti migliorando le conoscenze e le abilità nella prevenzione del linfedema.

Background and Objectives: Game addiction is an emerging problem in public health. A gaming disorder is characterized by a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior. The behavioral pattern is severe enough to implicate a significant involvement of family, social, educational, professional, or other relationships. Therefore, greater attention needs to be paid to potential addictive behaviors in terms of video games in order to identify both pre-adolescents and adolescents at risk and to provide them with adequate assistance. Materials and Methods: A random sample of 622 students including pre-adolescents and adolescents were enrolled from September 1st to October 31th 2016, and the Game Addiction Scale (GAS) interview was used to identify pathological students with both Monothetic and Polythetic analysis. Results: This study shows the presence of pathological students is equal to 1.93%, with 37.46% and 4.50% obtained with Monothetic and Polythetic analysis (global and partial), respectively. In our sample, the most frequent were students with a gaming time of 1 or 2 h, and students with a day gaming frequency of 1, 2, or 3 times a day. The items with more pathological students were Item 2 (i.e., Tolerance) and 4 (i.e., Withdrawal). Every item was positively correlated with Daily gaming time (hours) and Daily game frequency, excluding Item 4 (i.e., Withdrawal). Finally, the Monothetic GAS score was positively correlated with Daily gaming time while the Polythetic Global GAS was positively correlated with Daily game frequency and negatively with Education level; instead, the Polythetic Partial GAS score was positively correlated with only Daily gaming time. Conclusion: Males are pathological gamblers more so than females and spend more time playing video games. An increase in Daily game frequency or Daily gaming time implicates an increase in video game addictions, while an increase in Education level, which generally corresponds to a greater age, implicates a decrease in game addiction. Finally, we observed that the correlations obtained between the Polythetic Partial GAS score with the independent variables such as Age, Gender, Education level, Daily gaming time (hours), and Daily game frequency were analogous to the significant correlations obtained with the Monothetic GAS score, while these correlations were different for the Polythetic Global GAS and the independent variables. These results suggest that the use of the original Polythetic scale should not be neglected.

The objectives of the cross-sectional study were to delineate the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior among nurses regarding the prevention of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) and to identify their predisposing factors. A questionnaire was self-administered from September to November 2011 to nurses in oncology and outpatient chemotherapy units in 16 teaching and non-teaching public and private hospitals in the Campania region (Italy). The questionnaire gathered information on demographic and occupational characteristics; knowledge about evidence-based practices for the prevention of CLABSIs; attitudes towards guidelines, the risk of transmitting infections, and hand-washing when using central venous catheter (CVC); practices about catheter site care; and sources of information. The vast majority of the 335 nurses answered questions correctly about the main recommendations to prevent CLABSIs (use sterile gauze or sterile transparent semipermeable dressing to cover the catheter site, disinfect the needleless connectors before administer medication or fluid, disinfect with hydrogen peroxide the catheter insertion site, and use routinely anticoagulants solutions). Nurses aged 36 to 50 years were less likely to know these main recommendations to prevent CLABSIs, whereas this knowledge was higher in those who have received information about the prevention of these infections from courses. Nurses with lower education and those who do not know two of the main recommendations on the site's care to prevent the CLABSIs, were more likely to perceive the risk of transmitting an infection. Higher education, attitude toward the utility allow to dry antiseptic, and the need of washing hands before wearing gloves for access to port infusion were predictors of performing skin antiseptic and aseptic technique for dressing the catheter insertion site. Educational interventions should be implemented to address the gaps regarding knowledge and practice regarding the prevention of CLABSIs and to ensure that nurses use evidence-based prevention interventions.
