Potted flower production is an important floricultural activity. However, there have been few studies on the fertilization management of orchids. Fertigation with urea and potassium chloride is feasible, but little information is available regarding the interaction of these fertilizers with other sources of nutrients. Thus, the present study evaluated the effects of application of bokashi and a simple superphosphate and their interactions with fertigation on the growth and nutrition of hybrid Cattleya. Seedlings of Laeliocattleya Drumbeat × Laeliocattleya Gold Digger hybrid were submitted to two ferti-irrigation levels (absent and present) using urea and potassium chloride as nitrogen and potassium sources, respectively. As complementary fertilization, bokashi and superphosphate were applied singly and in combination. A commercial fertilizer (Peters®) was used as an additional control. Fertigation increased plant height; leaf area; number, length, and diameter of pseudobulbs; dry mass of leaves, pseudobulbs, and roots; and content of chlorophyll, carotenoid, and nitrogen. The application of bokashi resulted in dry mass gain in all plant organs. The combination of fertigation and bokashi was superior to the commercial fertilizer in terms of increased leaf area, chlorophyll A content, carotenoid content, and dry mass. A produção de flores em vaso é uma importante atividade da floricultura. Todavia, são escassos os estudos sobre o manejo da fertilização em orquídeas. A fertirrigação com ureia e cloreto de potássio é uma prática comum; porém, pouco se sabe sobre suas interações com outras fontes de nutrientes. Nesse sentido, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito do bokashi e do superfosfato simples e suas interações com a fertirrigação no crescimento e nutrição de um híbrido de Cattleya. Mudas do híbrido entre Laeliocattleya Drumbeat × Laeliocattleya Gold Digger foram submetidas à dois regimes de fertirrigação (ausência e presente) utilizando ureia e cloreto de potássio como fonte de nitrogênio (N) e potássio (K), respectivamente. Além disso, como fertilização complementar foi utilizado o bokashi e superfosfato, aplicados isolados e em combinação. O fertilizante comercial Peters® foi utilizado como testemunha adicional. A fertirrigação propiciou incrementos na altura, área foliar, número, comprimento e diâmetro dos pseudobulbos, bem como na massa seca de folhas, pseudobulbos e raízes, além de aumento nos teores de clorofila, carotenoides e teor de N. O uso do bokashi resultou em ganhos na massa seca em todos os órgãos da planta. A utilização combinada entre a fertirrigação e bokashi foi superior ao fertilizante comercial para as características área foliar, teor de clorofila A, carotenoides, além das características de massa seca.

O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de crioprotetores na criopreservacao de sementes de Cattleya granulosa Lindl. Foi utilizado delineamento inteiramente casualizado com um controle e cinco tratamentos com 10 repeticoes. Os tratamentos foram: C– controle (sem solucao crioprotetora); T1-glicerol; T2-sacarose; T3-glicerol+sacarose; T4- PVS2 (Plant vitrification solution) e T5-PVS2+1% de floroglucinol. As sementes foram imersas em nitrogenio liquido a -196 oC. Apos 15 dias, foram retiradas do nitrogenio. Uma parte foi submetida ao teste de tetrazolio para avaliar a viabilidade do embriao e outra foi semeada em frascos de vidro contendo meio de cultura para germinacao in vitro. A germinacao das sementes foi avaliada apos 60 dias por meio da formacao de protocormos. Aos 180 dias, foi avaliada a altura das plântulas e massa seca. As sementes conservadas em PVS2 e PVS2 + floroglucinol foram as que apresentaram maior viabilidade apos a criopreservacao, com 59% e 60% respectivamente.

A produção de orquídeas Phalaenopsis teve um crescimento extraordinário, tornando-se a espécie mais produzida e comercializada no mundo. A adubação é fundamental para o crescimento e desenvolvimento das plantas em geral, sendo que a nutrição mineral influencia diretamente no vigor, quantidade e qualidade das flores em espécies ornamentais. Porém às exigências nutricionais dessas espécies ainda não estão bem estabelecidas. Neste contexto o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o crescimento, curva de absorção de nutrientes e determinar a influencia da concentração de cálcio em solução nutritiva na cultura da orquídea Phalaenopsis. Foram conduzidos 2 experimentos, no primeiro foi avaliado o crescimento e a curva de absorção de nutrientes, as plantas foram fertilizadas com solução nutritiva propostas por Hoagland e Arnon. Foram realizadas 12 coletas durante o período amostral, sendo avaliadas 10 plantas aleatoriamente por coleta. As coletas ocorreram em um intervalo médio de 35 dias, o que totalizou um período total de 424 dias. Foram avaliados os seguintes parâmetros fitométricos: número de folhas, largura e comprimento da maior folha, área foliar, massa seca de parte aérea e de raíz, e determinação dos teores de macronutrientes. Do substrato foram determinados o pH e a condutividade elétrica. Os parâmetros analisados foram submetidas a analise de variância a 5% de probabilidade de erro e posteriormente ajustado aos modelos, logísticos e polinomiais de primeiro, segundo e terceiro graus, utilizando o software R. No segundo experimento foi determinado a influencia da concentração de cálcio em solução nutritiva, foram avaliadas diferentes concentrações de Ca em solução nutritiva de Hoagland e Arnon constituindo 5 tratamentos, que forneceram : 0 mM, 2,5 mM, 5 mM, 7,5 mM e 10 mM de Ca. Após 24 meses foram avaliados os seguintes parâmetros fitométricos: número de folhas, largura da maior folha, comprimento da maior folha, área foliar total, massa seca de folhas, massa seca de raízes, textura das folhas, número de flores e massa seca de flores. Foram determinados os teores de macronutrientes. Do substrato foram determinados o pH e a condutividade elétrica. O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado, com 10 repetições por tratamento, no qual um vaso contendo uma planta foi considerado uma unidade experimental As variáveis, foram submetidas a analise de variância a 5% de probabilidade de erro e posteriormente ajustadas aos modelos de Mitscherlich e polinomiais de primeiro e segundo graus pelo software estatístico R. No final do primeiro experimento, a captação de macronutrientes pelas plantas de Phalaenopsis, seguiram a ordem decrescente: K> Ca> N> Mg> P> S. O pH e a condutividade elétrica do substrato não foram alteradas durante o período experimental. No segundo experimento a fertilização com 6,25 mM de Ca apresenta efeitos positivos sobre o crescimento e desenvolvimento vegetativo e reprodutivo da orquídea Phalaenopsis sp. A deficiência em Ca resulta na redução do número de flores, o que afeta a qualidade do florescimento; e diminuição da firmeza das folhas em Phalaenopsis sp. Não é possível observar sintomas visuais de deficiência nutricional de Ca, durante todo o desenvolvimento vegetativo. A fertilização com 200 - 250 mg L-1 de Ca é recomendada. The production of Phalaenopsis orchids has grown extraordinarily, becoming the most produced and commercialized species in the world. Fertilization is essential for plant growth and development in general, and mineral nutrition directly influences the vigor, quantity and quality of flowers in ornamental species. However, the nutritional requirements of these species are not yet well established. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the growth, nutrient absorption curve and determine the influence of calcium concentration in nutrient solution on the culture of the Phalaenopsis orchid. Two experiments were conducted, in the first one the growth and the nutrient absorption curve were evaluated, the plants were fertilized with a nutrient solution proposed by Hoagland and Arnon. Twelve collections were carried out during the sampling period, with 10 plants being randomly evaluated per collection. The collections took place in an average interval of 35 days, which totaled a total period of 424 days. Fertilization through nutrient solution is commonly used in commercial production of potted flowers, being employed soluble NPK formulations. However, most commercial formulations available in the market have high costs and the use of agricultural fertilizers can be an economically viable alternative. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of agricultural fertilizers applied as nutrient solutions, in replacement of commercial formulations, on initial growth of Cattleya labiata. C. labiata seedlings in vitro propagated were grown in a greenhouse with controlled temperature, 27 ± 2° C, and retaining 50% brightness. Polypropylene pots were used with 0.415 L capacity, containing a mixture of pine bark and charcoal (1:1, v:v) as substrate. Altogether were used 4 treatments: without fertilization (control); Peters® - NPK 20 20 20 (3.0 g L -1 ); NPK - urea (1.3 g L -1 ), superphosphate (3.3 g L -1 ) and potassium chloride (1.0 g L -1 ); NK - urea (1.3 g L -1 ) and potassium chloride (1.0 g L -1 ). The nutrient solutions were applied 50 ml per pot every two weeks, according to the treatments. Were evaluated phytometric characteristics, pH and electrical conductivity of the substrate beyond the levels and accumulation of macronutrients. The experimental design was completely randomized with 12 replications, being considered each pot with two plants as an experimental unit. The parameters were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey’s test at 5% probability. Regarding phytometric parameters no significant differences were observed between the treatments that received fertilization, which are superior to the control in height and dry mass of shoots. The more accumulated nutrients were K>Ca>N, in the treatments that received fertilization. The use of urea, superphosphate and potassium chloride, applied in nutrient solution, have potential to replace the commercial formulations in the initial growth of native orchid Cattleya labiata.

An alternative for the conservation of orchid species threatened with extinction is the seeds preservation for long periods by cryopreservation. This work aimed to evaluate the influence of cryogenic solutions on the orchids Epidendrum radicans and Arundina bambusifolia seeds cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen. Seven treatments were performed: 0.4 M sucrose; 2 M glycerol; PVS1; PVS2; PVS3; PVS2 + 1% phloroglucinol and the control. After liquid nitrogen removal, half of the seeds were subjected to tetrazolium test, and another half was in vitro cultured. After 30 days seed germination was evaluated. There was no significant difference between A. bambusifolia and E. radicans in tetrazolium test and seeds germination. On the other hand, it was observed that in A. bambusifolia tetrazolium and seed germination tests the solutions of PVS1, PVS2, PVS2 + 1% phloroglucinol showed the best results. E. radicans seeds with 4% water content cryopreservation does not require the use of cryoprotectant. On the other hand, cryoprotectant's use resulted in positive effect in maintenance and viability preservation of A. bambusifolia seeds. PVS1, PVS2 and PVS2 + 1% phloroglucinol showed best seeds survival rates after cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen. RESUMO Uma alternativa para a conservação de espécies de orquídeas ameaçadas de extinção é a preservação por longos períodos de tempo das sementes por criopreservação. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência de soluções criogênicas na criopreservação de sementes das orquídeas Epidendrum radicans e Arundina bambusifolia em nitrogênio liquído. Foram realizados sete tratamentos: sacarose 0,4 M; glicerol 2 M; PVS1; PVS2; PVS3; PVS2 com 1% de floroglucinol e o controle. Após a retirada do nitrogênio líquido, metade das sementes foi submetida ao teste de tetrazólio, e outra metade foi cultivado in vitro. Após 30 dias foi avaliada a germinação das sementes. No teste de tetrazólio e na avaliação da germinação das sementes de A. bambusifolia, não houve diferença significativa entre os tratamentos de E. radicans. Por outro lado, no teste de tetrazólio e no teste de germinação das sementes de A. bambusifolia, observou-se que as soluções de PVS1, PVS2 e PVS2 + 1% de floroglucinol apresentaram os melhores resultados. A criopreservação de sementes de E. radicans com 4% de teor de água não requer o uso de crioprotetores. Por outro lado, a utilização dos crioprotetores apresentou efeito positivo na manutenção e preservação da viabilidade de sementes de A. bambusifolia, sendo que a utilização das soluções de PVS1, PVS2 e PVS2 acrescentado de 1% floroglucinol, apresentam melhores taxas de sobrevivência das sementes após criopreservação em nitrogênio líquido.

Adenium obesum, also known as desert rose, has recently become popular in Brazil, due to its exuberance and sculptural shape. However, the production of the species in commercial scale has been facing challenges regarding propagation of hybrids by in vitro cultivation techniques, potting medium composition, irrigation and fertilization management, disease and pest control. Unlike other species sold as potted plants, there are no commercial production protocols established for Adenium, mainly due to the scarcity of technical information about this species. Thus, this technical article aimed to provide information related to the Adenium growth, in view of its commercial scale production. In addition, aspects related to floral morphology, pollination and seed production of the species, as well as, vegetative propagation strategies were discussed.

In vitro cultivation is a highly important biotechnological method widely used for the production of orchid seedlings, but it is necessary to study the suitability of the nutrients used in different kinds of formulation, as the nutritional requirement varies according to the species. The objective was to evaluate different concentrations of iron in the in vitro cultivation of Schomburgkia crispa Lindl seedlings. Seedlings were obtained from seeds germinated in vitro. Modified MS culture medium was used with half of the macronutrient concentration. The micronutrients were added according to the original formulation, except for the iron which was added from a stock solution of FeEDTA (FeSO4.7H2O: 5.6 g L-1 and EDTA: 7.48 g L-1) at 0.0; 2.5; 5.0; 7.5; 10.0 and 12.5mL L-1. At 200 days after seedling transplantation, shoot height, root length, number of leaves, shoot number, leaf length, leaf width, aerial and root dry mass, chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids content were evaluated. A completely randomized design was used, with six treatments and ten replicates of five seedlings. Regression analysis was performed at 5% of significance. The increase in iron concentration caused a reduction in root length and an increase in the number of leaves and shoots. The concentration of 4.13 mL L-1 of FeEDTA was the one that provided the best in vitro growth of S. crispa plants. High concentrations of iron caused a reduction of initial development, but stimulated an increase in the number of shoots.

Dentre os diversos manejos de cultivo, a fertilização destaca-se por apresentar efeitos diretos sobre a qualidade e padronização, essenciais na floricultura. Porém a fertilização em plantas ornamentais ainda não está bem estabelecida, devido a grande variabilidade de espécies, as quais possuem peculiaridades, que variam de acordo com o genótipo, estádio fenológico e objetivo de produção. Dentre as diversas plantas ornamentais, a rosa do deserto (Adenium obesum), vem se destacando no mercado nacional, por apresentar rusticidade, formas esculturais variadas e floradas intensas, porém não possui muitos estudos relacionados às suas exigências nutricionais. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito de diferentes fertilizações e suas interações com distintos substratos no crescimento inicial de rosa do deserto. Mudas de A. obesum produzidas a partir de sementes, com 60 dias foram transplantadas em vaso com capacidade de 0,415 L, preenchidos com dois tipos de substrato em mistura com areia, sendo: areia + fibra de coco e areia + pó de pinus compostado e mantidos em casa de vegetação com 50% de retenção luminosa. Foram realizadas quatro diferentes fertilizações sendo: sem fertilização, aplicação da solução nutritiva de Hoagland; aplicação de 590 ppm de nitrogênio (N) a partir da diluição de NH3NO4 em água; e aplicação da solução nutritiva de Hoagland modificada pela adição de NH3NO4, elevando a concentração de N para 800 ppm. As soluções foram aplicadas quinzenalmente adicionando 50 mL de cada solução por vaso. A irrigação foi diária, exceto nos dias das fertilizações, efetuada manualmente, aplicando-se uma lâmina de água de 4 mm a cada irrigação. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 2x4, com 10 repetições. Após 150 dias foram avaliados os seguintes parâmetros fitométricos: altura da parte aérea; diâmetro basal do cáudice; número dos ramos; massa seca de raízes, cáudice e folhas; e determinação dos teores e acúmulo de macronutrientes da parte aérea além do pH e EC do substrato. Os parâmetros avaliados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. Para todos os parâmetros fitométricos avaliados quando utilizado pinus compostado em mistura com areia, as mudas apresentaram maior desenvolvimento comparado a utilização de fibra de coco misturado com areia. Em relação a utilização das diferentes soluções nutritivas, as mudas tiveram melhor desempenho com a solução de Hoagland modificada para a altura, numero de brotos, diâmetro de cáudice, e massa seca de folhas. Em relação a massa seca de cáudice e massa seca de raízes, a fertilização com a solução de NH3NO4 e com a solução de Hoagland modificada, não diferiram entre si, sendo contudo superiores as demais. Recomenda-se o uso do substrato areia + pó de pinus (1:1 V/V) e da fertilização com solução de Hoagland combinada com solução de nitrato de amônio (590 ppm), por propiciarem melhor crescimento inicial de rosa do deserto. Among the various managements crop fertilization stands out by having direct effects on the quality and standardization, essential in floriculture. But the fertilization of ornamental plants is not well established due to high variability of species, which has peculiarities that vary according to the genotype, phenological stage and purpose of production. Among the various ornamental plants, desert rose (Adenium obesum: Apocynaceae), has been outstanding in the domestic market, due to its hardiness, sculptural shapes varied and intense flowering, but does not have many studies related to their nutritional requirements. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different fertilizations and their interactions with different substrates in pink initial growth of the desert. A. obesum seedlings grown from seeds, 60 days were transplanted in a pot with 0.415 liter capacity, filled with two types of substrate mixed with sand, as follows: sand + coconut fiber and sand + composted pine dust and kept in a greenhouse with 50% light retention. Four different fertilizations were carried out as follows: no fertilization, application of the Hoagland; application of 590 ppm of nitrogen (N) from NH3NO4 dilution in water; and application of the Hoagland nutrient solution modified by the addition of NH3NO4, raising the concentration of N to 800 ppm. The solutions were applied every two weeks by adding 50 mL of each solution per pot. Irrigation was daily, except on the days of fertilization, performed manually, applying a 4 mm of water at each irrigation. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2x4 factorial design, with 10 repetitions. After 150 days were evaluated the following fitométricos parameters: shoot height; basal diameter of caudex; number of branches; dry mass of roots, caudex and leaves; and determining the levels and shoot macronutrient accumulation than pH and EC of the substrate. The parameters evaluated were submitted to analysis of variance and means compared by Tukey test at 5% probability. Fitométricos for all parameters evaluated when used composted pine mixed with sand, the seedlings showed higher development compared to use of coconut fiber mixed with sand. Regarding the use of different nutrient solutions, the seedlings performed better with Hoagland solution adjusted for height, number of shoots, caudex diameter and dry mass of leaves. Regarding the dry mass of caudex and dry mass of roots, fertilization with NH3NO4 solution and the solution modified Hoagland, not different, and yet superior to others. It is recommended the use of the substrate sand + pine powder (1: 1 V / V) and fertilization with Hoagland solution combined with ammonium nitrate solution (590 ppm), for they encourage better rose early growth of the desert.

This study has aimed to carry out the description of fruits and seeds and germination process of desert rose, from two years of observations. The fruits and seeds were characterized based on length, diameter and number of seeds per fruit. The seeds internal structure and germinating process were also described. Germination test was performed at 25 and 30 °C temperatures, determining the germination percentage and germination speed index. Seeds harvested in 2013 were stored for 12 months and submitted to a new germination test. Parallel to these tests, the seeds imbibition curve was determined in substrates over and between sheets of paper at 15, 20, 25 and 30 °C temperatures. The fruits and seeds had similar lengths and diameters in both years of observations. The seeds can be stored for up to 12 months without loss in viability and temperatures of 25 and 30 °C are suitable for performing the germination test of this species. The water absorption curve of desert rose seeds follows a triphasic pattern of soaking. Resumo Objetivou-se nesse estudo realizar a descrição de frutos e sementes e do processo de germinação de rosa do deserto, a partir de dois anos de observações. Os frutos e as sementes foram caracterizados com base no comprimento, diâmetro e número de sementes por fruto; também, descreveu-se a estrutura interna das sementes e o processo de germinação. Realizaram-se testes de germinação às temperaturas de 25 e 30 ºC, determinando-se a porcentagem e índice de velocidade de germinação. As sementes colhidas em 2013 foram armazenadas por 12 meses e submetidas a novo teste de germinação. Paralelo a esses testes determinou-se a curva de embebição das sementes em substrato sobre e entre papel às temperaturas de 15, 20, 25 e 30 ºC. Os frutos e as sementes apresentaram comprimentos e diâmetros semelhantes nos dois anos de observações. As sementes podem ser armazenadas por até 12 meses sem perdas na viabilidade e as temperaturas de 25 e 30 ºC são adequadas para realizar o teste de germinação dessa espécie. A curva de absorção de água das sementes de rosa do deserto segue um padrão trifásico de embebição.

O incremento produtivo da cultura do milho pode ser maximizado pelo adensamento da lavoura e, para isso, a utilização de herbicidas e reguladores de crescimento, por favorecer a diminuição de porte das plantas, torna-se ferramenta importante. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar doses dos redutores de crescimento trinexapac-ethyl e clomazone sobre o desempenho fitométrico de híbrido simples de milho. O delineamento adotado foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 5, com quatro repetições. Como primeiro fator considerou-se os redutores de crescimento (trinexapac-ethyl e clomazone) e no segundo foram consideradas as cinco doses de cada redutor (0, 50, 100, 200 e 400 g i. a. ha-1). Os redutores de crescimento trinexapac-ethyl e clomazone modificam o desempenho fitométrico das plantas de milho. Cerca de 113 g i.a. ha-1 de clomazone proporciona aumento do diâmetro do colmo e da massa fresca. O herbicida clomazone também pode ser utilizado como redutor de crescimento.

Propagation of in vitro plants through other culture media rather than the traditional ones has been widely researched, with satisfactory results. However, to increase the effectiveness of these media, the addition of organic products has been presented satisfactory results. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of the FishFértil® organic fertilizer on the in vitro cultivation of the Brazilian orchid Cattleya labiata. Treatments included FishFértil® fertilizer concentrations of 0; 1; 2; 3; 4; 5 and 6 mL L-1 in a simplified culture medium. At 180 days, shoot height, number of leaves, leaf area, number of roots, root average length, shoot and root dry mass and the shoot: root ratio were evaluated. The experimental design was entirely randomized, with 10 replications, each one containing 10 plantules. Data were submitted to an analysis of variance and regression analysis, at 5% of significance. The FishFértil® organic fertilizer at the concentration of 6 mL L-1 promoted better plantule growth of Cattleya labiata, subcultivated in vitro, in a simplified culture medium.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of mepiquat chloride and paclobutrazol on reducing the size of Arundina graminifolia for commercialization as a flower vase. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse with 50% of shading. Plants were grown in one-liter black polypropylene vase filled with commercial substrate Plantmax ® and sand in the ratio (1:1). Growth regulators were mepiquat chloride (Pix 50 g L-1), in doses of 1.0; 2.0; 3.0; 4.0 and 5.0 ml L-1, applied via foliar spraying and paclobutrazol (Cultar 250 g L-1), in doses of 1.0; 2.0; 3.0; 4.0 and 5.0 ml L-1 applied via substrate irrigation (50 ml per vase), another witness with distilled water. The applications of regulators was held every 15 days, during 5 months, totaling 10 applications. Been evaluated variables number and height of the shoots (cm) with and without flower. The experiment was conducted on a random block with 11 treatments and 10 replications. The paclobutrazol in dose of 2 mg L-1 applied via substrate fortnightly, totaling 10 applications is indicated for the reduction of the size of Arundina graminifolia, with doses greater than 3 mg L-1 present high number of dead plants. Mepiquat chloride in the doses studied was not effective in reducing the size of Arundina graminifolia. Growth reduction does not change the amount of shoots in the bamboo orchid.

The Bromeliaceae family includes 3140 species grouped in 58 genera. This family stands out mainly for its ornamentals characteristics, besides presenting some fruit species, like the pineapple. The Bromelia laciniosa, known as “macambira”, is present in the dry areas of Brazilian Northeast, covering the states of Bahia to Piauí, being used in large scale for garden's ornamentation. The aim of this work was evaluated the chemical composition of B. laciniosa seeds. The seeds showed average lengths of 0.28 mm and 0.45 mm and average widths of 0.24 mm and 0.39 mm, and are formed in a fruit with three locus having 4±1 cm in length and 15±5 cm in diameter, and yellow berries with purples axes when reach the maturation stage. The protein levels was 4.34%, the acidity present 3.13%, the pH showed a medium value of 5.24 and the vitamin C present in seeds reached the level of 920 mg/100 g. The Bromelia laciniosa seeds showed a great potential as source of vitamin C and antioxidant compounds, and also can be used in human feeding.

A grama batatais (Paspalum notatum) é uma poacea, resistente ao pisoteio, restrição hídrica e baixa fertilidade do solo, porém, exige cortes frequentes para eliminar o excesso de biomassa produzido. Para inibir o crescimento dos gramados e evitar ou retardar a operação de corte, têm sido testados reguladores de crescimento e herbicidas. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o potencial de três herbicidas como reguladores de crescimento em grama batatais, e sua influência no crescimento e teor de pigmentos cloroplastídicos. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com três herbicidas (glyphosate, isoxaflutole e tembotrione) e cinco doses (0, 68, 136, 272, 544 g e.a. ha-1; 0, 24, 48, 96, 192 g i.a. ha-1 e 0, 13, 26, 52, 104 g i.a. ha-1), respectivamente, com quatro repetições. Foram avaliadas as características, fitointoxicação, massa seca, altura do gramado e teor de pigmentos cloroplastídicos. Os dados foram submetidos a análise de variância e, quando constatada significância, foi realizado o teste de regressão até segundo grau separadamente para cada herbicida. Os herbicidas demonstram eficiência no controle do porte do gramado, no entanto, constata-se efeito fitotóxico com o incremento das doses e o prejuízo no o aspecto estético do gramado. O isoxaflutole possui maior potencial para ser utilizado com redutor de crescimento para a grama batatais, devido à baixa dose necessária para reduzir a altura e a pouca fitointoxicação. O teor de pigmentos cloroplastídicos é alterado de maneira singular por cada herbicida utilizado, e têm relação direta com a massa seca das folhas.
