Abstract

The trend toward a defined contribution based system and the effect of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA), the Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 158, and the Proposed Regulations for Hybrid Plans are discussed. Cash balance model will still do well after these new regulations because the hybrid plan structure minimizes volatility associated with funding levels.
