Scopo del lavoro. Lo scopo dello studio è di investigare le associazioni esistenti tra il fumo di cannabis e il pneumotorace spontaneo, analizzando una popolazione di pazienti giovani operati, prendendo in considerazione anche le interazioni con il fumo di tabacco. Materiali e metodi. Studio retrospettivo sui pazienti operati in videotoracoscopia per pneumotorace spontaneo recidivante o cronico tra il 2009 e il 2018, di età inferiore ai 40 anni e che abbiano eseguito una TC-torace prima dell’intervento. Sono state considerate variabili cliniche (età, sesso, sintomi respiratori cronici), tossicologiche (consumo di cannabis in dose/years, 1d/y=5mg di cannabis/settimana; consumo di tabacco in pack/years), radiologiche (gravità del pneumotorace sul radiogramma, grado di enfisema alla TC), perioperatorie (aspetto del polmone secondo Vanderschueren, durata intervento, numero cariche di suturatrice utilizzate per la bullectomia, complicanze postoperatorie, durata drenaggio e durata degenza, recidiva postoperatoria). Il consumo di cannabis è stato correlato con ciascuna delle variabili. Un confronto è stato inoltre eseguito tra 3 gruppi: fumatori di cannabis (più eventualmente tabacco), fumatori soltanto di tabacco, non fumatori. Risultati. 112 pazienti: 39 fumatori di cannabis (media 9.8d/y, 37 fumavano anche tabacco), 23 fumatori di solo tabacco (media 7.5p/y), 50 non fumatori. Il consumo di cannabis è risultato significativamente correlato con sesso maschile, presenza di sintomi respiratori cronici, severità dell’enfisema, gravità del pneumotorace, classe di Vanderschueren, numero di cariche utilizzate e recidiva del pneumotorace. I fumatori di cannabis hanno presentato sintomi respiratori e un grado di enfisema più severi, un pneumotorace di entità più grave e un maggior rischio di recidiva postoperatoria rispetto ai non fumatori e ai fumatori di solo tabacco. Conclusioni. Lo studio evidenzia l’associazione tra fumo di cannabis e pneumotorace, argomento poco studiato in letteratura. L’aggiunta di tabacco funge probabilmente da moltiplicatore degli effetti della cannabis. E’ auspicabile una maggiore consapevolezza da parte della popolazione dei danni polmonari indotti dal fumo di cannabis, ormai chiaramente dimostrati.

A critical component of Maritime Spatial Planning is the establishment of well-curated, federated Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) to provide a means to preserve and share geospatial data while promoting attribution and acknowledgement of its use. Objective of the work is to create a geospatial database of geomorphology, seismic and sedimentology data of Western Sardinian (Italy) marine sector, to share them and to promote planning actions in relation to the management of submerged sand deposits situated in the continental shelf, which can be used for beach nourishment. The work was realized through the integration of data and information collected during several projects. The available data consist of morphobatimetric data (multibeam) associated with the morphoacustic data between -50 and -700 m and singlebeam surveys in low-depth coastal areas. Extensive coverage of high-resolution seismic profiles (Chirp 3.5 kHz) and hundreds of kilometres of sparker profiles were acquired along the continental shelf. Surface sediment sampling (Van Veen grab and box corer) and vibrocorer survey were performed. These data allowed the mapping, determination of the thickness and volumes of the submerged sand deposits and their sedimentological characterization. All data were organized by means of the software suite Geoinformation Enabling Toolkit StarterKit ® (GET-IT), developed by researchers of the National Research Council for RITMARE project. GET-IT facilitates the creation of distributed nodes of an interoperable SDI and enables unskilled researchers from various scientific domains to create their own Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard services for distributing geospatial data, observations and metadata of sensors and datasets. The products of the work are the creation of an information system of the sand reservoir along the Western Sardinian continental shelf through interoperable tools allowing the data storage in several levels of information, their sharing, and integrated management and analysis.

The Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) are a critical component of Maritime Spatial Planning to provide a means to preserve and share geospatial data. Objective of the work is to create a geospatial database to data repository and integration of abiotic/biotic variables, anthropogenic pressures, habitat and species distribution patterns by means of the software suite Geoinformation Enabling Toolkit StarterKit (GET-IT), developed by researchers of the National Research Council for RITMARE project. GET-IT facilitates the creation of distributed nodes of an interoperable SDI and enables unskilled researchers from various scientific domains to create their own Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard services for distributing geospatial data, observations and metadata of sensors and datasets. Specifically, this work focuses on the case study of sea urchin fishery management in the "Penisola del Sinis - Isola di Mal di Ventre" Marine Protected Area (herein after "Sinis MPA"). This topic was a key example considering that: (1) Paracentrotus lividus is one of the most intensively exploited invertebrates in Sardinia and a key grazer able in shaping the structure of sublittoral assemblages; (2) there are more restrictive rules governing its exploitation inside the reserve even if the MPA is characterized by low levels of legal compliance and enforcement (3) there is wide availability of spatial and temporal data coming from three different institutions (i.e. Sinis MPA, IAMC-CNR, IMC). The products of the present work are the creation of an information system on the sea urchin resource through interoperable tools allowing the data storage in several levels of information, their sharing integrated management and analysis. This tool, facilitating the understanding of the ecological processes and offers an means to discuss with local stakeholders ways to increase the management effectiveness of biological resources and the individuation of possible policy solutions.

Allo scopo di raggiungere e mantenere la completa astinenza da bevande alcoliche, è necessario che i pazienti con cirrosi epatica alcolica sottoposti a trapianto ortotopico di fegato siano valutati e seguiti prima e dopo il trapianto attraverso un approccio multidisciplinare. L’esperto di alcologia o alcologo presente all’interno delle equipè trapiantologiche ha il compito di effettuare una valutazione specifica (alcologica) caratterizzata da: anamnesi, esame obiettivo, somministrazione di scale, valutazione dei parametri di laboratorio ed eventuale impostazione di un trattamento farmacologico (anti-astinenziale od anti-craving). Tuttavia, nei pazienti affetti da cirrosi epatica alcolica, il rischio di epato-tossicità limita notevolmente l’opzione farmacologica; il baclofene è l’unico approccio farmacologico che le linee guida dell’Associazione Europea per lo Studio del Fegato hanno recentemente indicato come sicuro ed efficace. Infine, la figura dell’alcologo deve partecipare al processo decisionale di inserimento in lista OLT ed al monitoraggio del paziente nella fase pre-OLT. Quindi, la stretta collaborazione con gli epatologi ospedalieri, con le U.O. di alcologia territoriali, con i servizi territoriali per le tossicodipendenze (Ser.T.), con la famiglia e con le associazioni (es: gruppi di auto-mutuo aiuto) risulta di fondamentale importanza.

Studies have revealed the potential risks to which human health and ecosystems are exposed in the Venice Lagoon, due to the atmospheric deposition of persistent pollutants such as trace metals and organic compounds. A total of 77 atmospheric bulk deposition samples were collected monthly from April 2002 to December 2004, from three sites located in the cities of Mestre and Venice, and inside the industrial area of Porto Marghera. Samples were analyzed by HRGC/HRMS for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) content. Spatial variations of atmospheric fallout were investigated, and source identification was attempted using diagnostic ratios and multivariate statistical analysis. Different conditions were recorded, with three anthropic signatures: i) industrial, mainly affected by local industrial sources and diesel engine emissions, ii) urban, mostly influenced by high traffic density, especially petrol car emissions and iii) lagoonal, characterized by diesel emissions from boat engines and oil burning, with random transport of industrial emissions.
