ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical utility of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in molecular typing of endometrial carcinoma and its combined screening for Lynch Syndrome (LS).Methods90 patients diagnosed with endometrial carcinoma (EC) and receiving treatment at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between March 2022 and December 2023 were included in this study. Molecular typing and germline evaluation for LS were conducted using NGS on the Illumina platform. A retrospective analysis was performed to examine the clinical pathological characteristics, molecular mutation spectrum, and LS screening outcomes among patients with four distinct molecular subtyping categories.ResultsAmong the 90 cases of EC, 11 cases (12.2%) of POLE mut type, 19 cases (21.1%) of MMRd type, 6 cases (6.7%) of p53 abn type, and 54 cases (60%) of NSMP type were detected, with detailed analysis of their respective molecular characteristics. LS screening identified 9 cases (10%) of pathogenic germline mutations in MMR genes, including 3 cases of MLH1 germline mutations, 2 cases of PMS2, 2 of MSH2, and 2 of MSH6. Of the 9 LS patients, 7 were MMRd type and 2 NSMP type, with 7 cases showing abnormal MMR protein expression. Additionally, 6 cases with germline variants of uncertain significance in MMR genes were detected, including 2 MLH1, 1 MSH6, 2 MSH6, 1 PMS2, and 1 EPCAM.ConclusionNGS enables precise molecular typing of endometrial carcinoma through the identification of mutations in the POLE, TP53, and MMR genes. Conducting germline mutation testing for MMR genes in all patients with endometrial carcinoma can effectively prevent instances of overlooked LS diagnoses. Nevertheless, the extensive expenses associated with NGS necessitate additional validation and investigation before its clinical implementation can be fully endorsed.

BackgroundVarious trials have demonstrated the clinical benefits of lenvatinib plus pembrolizumab in patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer, regardless of mismatch repair (MMR) status or histologic subtype. The majority of the previously published trials had small sample sizes. Here, we aimed to assess the reported efficacy and safety profile of lenvatinib plus pembrolizumab in patients with advanced and recurrent endometrial cancer.MethodsWe utilized the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science and Embase databases to identify clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of lenvatinib plus pembrolizumab in patients with advanced and recurrent endometrial cancer. The outcomes analyzed were progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), the objective response rate (ORR), the disease control rate (DCR) and the incidence of adverse events (AEs). Subgroup analysis was conducted on the basis of MMR status (deficient, dMMR or proficient, pMMR).ResultsFour trials (582 patients) were included. The pooled ORR was 32.7% [95% confidence interval (CI): 28.9–36.5]. Subgroup analysis revealed an ORR of 48.1% (95% CI: 26.1–70.2) for dMMR group and 33.1% (95% CI: 25.7–40.6) for pMMR group. The pooled DCR was 74.9% (95% CI: 71.3–78.4%). Subgroup analysis revealed a DCR of 81.0% (95% CI: 64.5–97.6) for the dMMR group and 76.3% (95% CI: 66.3–86.3) for the pMMR group. Follow-up was reported in all included studies. The median range time of PFS and OS was 5.3 months-258 days and 17.2 months-not reached, respectively. Regarding safety, the overall pooled proportions of any-grade AE and AEs ≥ grade 3 were 95.8% (95% CI: 89.5–100.0) and 80.2% (95% CI: 59.9–100.0), respectively.ConclusionLenvatinib plus pembrolizumab showed a relevant clinical benefit and significant toxicity in patients with advanced and recurrent endometrial cancer. Global milk consumption exceeds 800 million tons a year and is still growing. Milk quality and its products are critical to human health. A teat cup makes direct contact with the cow’s teats during milking and its cleanliness is very important for the quality of raw milk. In this study, the microorganism from post-milking teat cup liners were collected from six dairy farms in Shandong Province of China, the bacterial species were identified using microbial mass spectrometry, the minimum inhibitory concentrations of the isolated strains against ten antimicrobial agents were determined using the broth microdilution method, and the antimicrobial resistance genes were detected by PCR. The results indicated that the most frequently isolated bacteria in this study were Bacillus licheniformis (39/276, 14.13%), followed by Bacillus pumilus (20/276, 7.25%), Bacillus cereus (17/276, 6.16%), and Bacillus subtili (16/276, 5.80%). The isolates exhibited the highest average resistance to lincomycin (87.37%), followed by sulfadiazine (61.05%) and streptomycin (42.63%); the highest detection rate of resistance genes was Sul1 (55.43%), followed by ant(4’) (51.09%), tet(M) (25.36%), blaKPC (3.62%) and qnrS (3.62%). These findings imply the necessity for enhanced measures in disinfecting cow udders and milking equipment, highlighting the persistently challenging issue of antimicrobial resistance in Shandong Province.

Purpose: To evaluate the survival benefit of radiation plus chemotherapy in adult females with stage IIIC endometrial cancer and to investigate whether the benefit varies according to histology. Methods: Data from adult females with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IIIC endometrial cancer, who underwent at least total hysterectomy between 2010 and 2015, were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Adjuvant treatments were categorized as chemotherapy alone, chemotherapy with external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), chemotherapy with vaginal brachytherapy (VBT), or chemotherapy with EBRT+VBT. Multivariate Cox regression models, Kaplan–Meier curves, and log-rank tests were used to assess the association between treatment modality and overall survival (OS). Results: In total, 2138 cases were identified: stage IIIC1 (n = 1299 [60.8%]) and stage IIIC2 (n = 839 [39.2%]). Median OS for all patients was 48 (interquartile range [IQR] 28-70) months. Regarding adjuvant treatment, 40.5% of patients underwent chemotherapy only, followed by chemotherapy with EBRT (35.5%). Due to long-term exposure to the natural environment, insulators are prone to self-blast, threatening the safety and reliability of transmission lines. Because of the different sizes of the insulator self-blast area and the complicated background, it is inevitable that the missed and false detections occur. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a deep neural network called Mina-Net (Multi-Layer INformation Fusion and Attention Mechanism Network). Mina-Net is based on YOLOv4. First, the shallow feature map with more detailed texture information is fused into the feature pyramid. Then, an improved SENet is applied to recalibrate the features of different levels in the channel direction. The experimental results on the actual dataset show that Mina-Net has increased the average precision by 4.78% compared with the YOLOv4.

Chromium (Cr) is the seventh most abundant chemical element in the Earth’s crust, and Cr(III) and Cr(VI) are common stable valence states of Cr. Several Cr-containing substances, such as FeOCr2O3 and stainless-steel products, exist in nature and in life. However, Cr(VI) is toxic to soil, microorganisms, and plants and poses a serious threat to human health through direct and indirect exposure. By collecting published journal literature, we found that Cr(VI) can cause acute and chronic toxicity in organisms and has carcinogenic effects, and the mechanisms causing these toxicity include endoplasmic reticulum stress, autophagy and apoptosis. However, the relationship between these mechanisms remains unclear. Many methods have been researched to purify chromium, but each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, this review summarizes the hazards of chromium and the mechanisms of chromium toxicity after entering cells and provides a number of methods for chromium contamination management, providing a direction for the next step in chromium toxicology and contamination decontamination research.

PurposeThe lung is the most common distant metastatic organ in patients with endometrial cancer (EC) but is rarely reported. This study examines the association between clinical characteristics and overall survival (OS) in EC with lung metastasis.MethodsPatients with EC who had accompanying lung metastasis were selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database between 2010 and 2017. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) and assess OS outcomes related to EC with lung metastasis. A Cox proportional hazards nomogram model for OS was constructed and validated. The calibration plot, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the discriminative ability and clinical benefit of the novel nomogram. Kaplan–Meier curves and scatter diagram analysis were used to investigate the risk stratifications of the nomogram.ResultsOverall, 1542 EC patients with lung metastasis between 2010 and 2017 were included and randomly divided into training and validation cohorts. A nomogram model was constructed using the clinical characteristics of tumor grade, histological type, surgery, adjuvant chemotherapy, adjuvant radiation, brain metastasis and liver metastasis. The concordance indexes (C-indexes) were 0.750 (95% CI, 0.732-0.767) and 0.743 (95% CI, 0.719-0.767) for the training cohort and validation cohort, respectively. Calibration plots and DCA showed good clinical applicability of the nomogram. The areas under the curves (AUCs) were 0.803 and 0.766 for 1-year and 3-year OS, respectively, indicating that the nomogram model had a stable discriminative ability. An online calculator of our nomogram is available on the internet at https://endometrialcancer.shinyapps.io/DynNomapp/. Additionally, patients in the high-risk group had a significantly worse OS than those in the low-risk group.ConclusionAn easy-to-use, highly accurate nomogram was developed for predicting the prognosis of EC patients with lung metastasis.

Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is a widespread heavy metal that has been identified as a human carcinogen, and acute or chronic exposure to Cr(VI) can cause organ damage. Platycodon grandiflorus polysaccharide (PGPS) is a constituent extracted from the Chinese herb Platycodon grandiflorus, which has various pharmacological effects. Therefore, the author investigated the role of PGPSt in Cr(VI)-induced apoptosis in chicken embryo fibroblast cell lines (DF-1 cells). Firstly, this study infected DF-1 cells using Cr(VI) to set up a model for cytotoxicity and then added PGPSt. Then, the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and apoptosis rate were evaluated. The results showed that PGPSt could inhibit Cr(VI)-induced mitochondrial damage and increase the apoptosis rate. For further exploration of the mechanism of regulation of PGPSt, the ROS-Drp1 pathway was investigated. The antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) and mitochondrial division inhibitor 1(Mdivi-1) were added, respectively. The results showed that the NAC and Mdivi-1 restored abnormal mitochondrial fission and cell apoptosis. Thus, PGPSt can alleviate Cr(VI)-induced apoptosis of DF-1 cells through the ROS-Drp1 signaling pathway, which may suggest new research ideas for developing new drugs to alleviate Cr(VI) toxicity.

In a real interactive service system, a smart meter can only read the total amount of energy consumption rather than analyze the internal load components for users. Nonintrusive load monitoring (NILM), as a vital part of smart power utilization techniques, can provide load disaggregation information, which can be further used for optimal energy use. In our paper, we introduce a new method called linear-chain conditional random fields (CRFs) for NILM and combine two promising features: current signals and real power measurements. The proposed method relaxes the independent assumption and avoids the label bias problem. Case studies on two open datasets showed that the proposed method can efficiently identify multistate appliances and detect appliances that are not easily identified by other models.

This retrospective multicenter study was conducted across 83 intensive care units (ICUs) in 16 cities in Sichuan, China. Critically ill patients diagnosed with heatstroke and lung infections were included in the study. Specimens from the lower respiratory tract were collected for microbiological testing, and the characteristics of the pathogens were described. A total of 462 patients diagnosed with heatstroke-related pulmonary infections were included, 134 patients (29.0%) tested positive for respiratory pathogens. The most frequently isolated strain was Klebsiella pneumoniae (34.3%), followed by Escherichia coli (28.4%), Staphylococcus aureus (20.9%). The results revealed that in the hyperthermic resistance group, there was a higher proportion of Pseudomonas aeruginosa [14(34.1%) vs 11(11.8%), p=0.002] and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia [4(9.8%) vs 1(1.1%), p=0.030] compared to the hyperthermic control group. Abstract Background Diabetic cardiomyopathy is a serious complication of obesity with type 2 diabetes and is a major cause of mortality. Metabolic surgery, such as duodenal‐jejunal bypass (DJB), can effectively improve diabetic cardiomyopathy; however, the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Oxidative stress is one of the pivotal mechanisms of diabetic cardiomyopathy. Our objective was to investigate the effect and potential mechanisms of DJB on oxidative stress in the heart of diabetic cardiomyopathy rats. Methods High‐fat diet combined with intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin was used to establish diabetic cardiomyopathy rats. DJB was performed on diabetic cardiomyopathy rats, and high glucose and palmitate were used to simulate diabetic cardiomyopathy in H9C2 cells in vitro. Sera from different groups of rats were used for experiments in vivo and in vitro. Results DJB effectively improved oxidative stress and activated the adenosine monophosphate (AMP)‐activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway to increase endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) phosphorylation level and the expression of antioxidative system‐related proteins and genes in the heart of diabetic cardiomyopathy rats. AMPK agonists and serum from DJB rats activated the AMPK pathway to increase eNOS phosphorylation level and the expression of antioxidative system‐related proteins and genes and decreased the content of reactive oxygen species in H9C2 cells, but this improvement was almost eliminated by the addition of AMPK inhibitors. Conclusions DJB activates eNOS and enhances the antioxidant system by activating the AMPK pathway—and not solely by improving blood glucose—to improve oxidative stress in the heart of diabetic cardiomyopathy rats.

Although 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is the primary chemotherapy treatment for colorectal cancer (CRC), its efficacy is limited by drug resistance. Ferroptosis activation is a promising treatment for 5-FU-resistant cancer cells; however, potential therapeutic targets remain elusive. This study investigated ferroptosis vulnerability and dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) activity using stable, 5-FU-resistant CRC cell lines and xenograft models. Ferroptosis was characterized by measuring malondialdehyde levels, assessing lipid metabolism and peroxidation, and using mitochondrial imaging and assays. DHODH function is investigated through gene knockdown experiments, tumor behavior assays, mitochondrial import reactions, intramitochondrial localization, enzymatic activity analyses, and metabolomics assessments. Intracellular lipid accumulation and mitochondrial DHODH deficiency led to lipid peroxidation overload, weakening the defense system of 5-FU-resistant CRC cells against ferroptosis. DHODH, primarily located within the inner mitochondrial membrane, played a crucial role in driving intracellular pyrimidine biosynthesis and was redistributed to the cytosol in 5-FU-resistant CRC cells. Cytosolic DHODH, like its mitochondrial counterpart, exhibited dihydroorotate catalytic activity and participated in pyrimidine biosynthesis. This amplified intracellular pyrimidine pools, thereby impeding the efficacy of 5-FU treatment through molecular competition. These findings contribute to the understanding of 5-FU resistance mechanisms and suggest that ferroptosis and DHODH are promising therapeutic targets for patients with CRC exhibiting resistance to 5-FU.

Pavement texture and skid resistance are pivotal surface features of roadway to traffic safety, especially under wet weather. Engineering interventions should be scheduled periodically to restore these features as they deteriorate over time under traffic polishing. While many studies have investigated the effects of traffic polishing on pavement texture and skid resistance through laboratory experiments, the absence of real-world traffic and environmental factors in these studies may limit the generalization of their findings. This study addresses this research gap by conducting a comprehensive field study of pavement texture and skid resistance under traffic polishing in the real world. A total of thirty pairs of pavement texture and friction data were systematically collected from three distinct locations with different levels of traffic polishing (middle, right wheel path, and edge) along an asphalt pavement in Oklahoma, USA. Data acquisition utilized a laser imaging device to reconstruct 0.01 mm 3D images to characterize pavement texture and a Dynamic Friction Tester to evaluate pavement friction at different speeds. Twenty 3D areal parameters were calculated on whole images, macrotexture images, and microtexture images to investigate the effects of traffic polishing on pavement texture from different perspectives. Then, texture parameters and testing speeds were combined to develop friction prediction models via linear and nonlinear methodologies. The results indicate that Random Forest models with identified inputs achieved excellent performance for non-contact friction evaluation. Last, the friction decrease rate was discussed to estimate the timing of future maintenance to restore skid resistance. This study provides more insights into how engineers should plan maintenance to restore pavement texture and friction considering real-world traffic polishing.

Abstract Background Preventive colostomy is required for colorectal surgery, and the incidence of complications associated with ileostomy and colostomy remains controversial. This study aimed to compare the incidence of postoperative complications between ileostomy and colostomy procedures. Methods Data analysis was conducted on 30 studies, and meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis (TSA) were performed on five studies. The basic indicators, such as stoma prolapse, leak, wound infection, ileus, and a series of other indicators, were compared. Results No statistically significant differences were observed with complications other than stoma prolapse. Meta-analysis and TSA showed that the incidence of ileostomy prolapse was lower than that of colostomy prolapse, and the difference was statistically significant. Apart from the four complications listed above, the general data analysis showed differences in incidence between the two groups. The incidence of skin irritation, parastomal hernia, dehydration, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections was higher with ileostomy than with colostomy. In contrast, the incidence of parastomal fistula, stenosis, hemorrhage, and enterocutaneous fistula was higher with colostomy than with ileostomy. Conclusions There were differences in the incidence of ileostomy and colostomy complications in the selected studies, with a low incidence of ileostomy prolapse. Human factors are a primary cause of vehicle accidents. Driver monitoring systems, utilizing a range of sensors and techniques, offer an effective method to monitor and alert drivers to minimize driver error and reduce risky driving behaviors, thus helping to avoid Safety Critical Events (SCEs) and enhance overall driving safety. Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, in particular, have been widely investigated to improve the efficiency and accuracy of driver monitoring or analysis of SCEs. To better understand the state-of-the-art practices and potential directions for AI tools in this domain, this work is an inaugural attempt to consolidate AI-related tools from academic and industry perspectives. We include an extensive review of AI models and sensors used in driver gaze analysis, driver state monitoring, and analyzing SCEs. Furthermore, researchers identified essential AI tools, both in academia and industry, utilized for camera-based driver monitoring and SCE analysis, in the market. Recommendations for future research directions are presented based on the identified tools and the discrepancies between academia and industry in previous studies. This effort provides a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners seeking a deeper understanding of leveraging AI tools to minimize driver errors, avoid SCEs, and increase driving safety.

The application range of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystals can be expanded by enhancing their surface quality properties. Therefore, a method for controlling the surface-temperature field of various materials was developed to expand the plastic zone to overcome the difficulty in processing KDP crystals. The ductile/brittle transition depth of the KDP crystals was determined using a 38 nm nanoindentation experiment. The nanoscratch experiment revealed the rules of how the transformation depth of the KDP crystals changes with temperatures, and the effect of temperature on the microstructure of the KDP crystals was studied. Finally, KDP crystal surfaces were processed using a UPDFC machine at elevated temperatures. According to our experiments, the surface roughness of the KDP crystal reached 5.275 nm as temperature increased, thus enhancing its surface quality. This method could be applied to other brittle materials.

A wide-band phased array antenna with wide-angle scanning capability for mobile communication system is proposed in this article. An air cavity is properly embedded into the substrate under each array element. This method is very simple and can efficiently enhance wide-angle scanning performance by improving the wide-angle scanning impedance matching (WAIM) and realizing the beam-width of elements in the array. Besides, the operating bandwidth is also extended with the proposed approach. The wide-angle scanning capability is analyzed and verified by both the linear array antennas (on large ground planes in detail) and the planar array. Two $1\times 8$ linear arrays and one $8\times 8$ planar array are demonstrated, which achieve the beam scanning of around ±60° with a realized gain reduction under 3.5 dB in the wide operating bandwidth (37.4%). Furthermore, the beam in the E-plane can scan over ±70° with a realized gain reduction under less than 3 dB. Two linear array prototypes with wide-angle scanning capacity in two planes are fabricated and characterized, yielding good performance within overall operational bandwidth. The measured results align very well with the simulated. The proposed wideband phased array with large scanning coverage is a promising candidate for 5G mobile communications.

In order to study the influence of assembly parallelism error caused by the axis tilt on the tooth root bending deformation， a set of gearbox test platform with adjustable gear axis and a complete strain acquisition and analysis system are designed and test verification is carried out. Based on the allowable deflection of the inner and outer rings of the spherical roller bearing， a finite element model of gear contact with different degrees of axis offset is established， and dynamic simulation analysis is performed to obtain the tooth root strain and stress distribution curve during the meshing process. Through the design of different adjustment methods of different axes， the actual and theoretical values of the angular deviation of the two axes before and after adjustment are compared to verify the feasibility of the adjustment device. Finally， the tooth root strain of different axis parallel error are tested through a strain acquisition system composed of a strain gauge acquisition card， the corresponding strain and stress distribution curve is obtained， and compared with the simulation strain and stress curve， the influence of the axis parallel error on the bending deformation at the dangerous root cross section is obtained.

A multi-band and wide beam-width magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna is proposed in this report. The proposed antenna has a simple structure, which consists of four $\Gamma $ -shaped electric plates which can change the current distribution and realize four operating frequency bands. To explain the characteristics of the proposed antenna, some key parameters are analyzed in detail. The multi-band antenna can realize the operating frequency bands (the reflection coefficient ≤ -10 dB) from 1.86 to 1.92 GHz (3.2%) in the first frequency band, from 2.30 to 2.65 GHz (14.2%) in the second frequency band, from 3.40 to 3.80 GHz (11.1%) in the third frequency band, and from 5.30 to 6.92 GHz (26.5%) in the fourth frequency band, respectively. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated ones by fabricating and measuring the proposed antenna. It is a good method to realize the performances of the quad-band and wide beam-width with a simple structure.

Bile acid is a derivative of cholinergic acid (steroidal parent nucleus) that plays an important role in digestion, absorption, and metabolism. In recent years, bile acids have been identified as signaling molecules that regulate self-metabolism, lipid metabolism, energy balance, and glucose metabolism. The detection of fine changes in bile acids caused by metabolism, disease, or individual differences has become a research hotspot. At present, there are many related techniques, such as enzyme analysis, immunoassays, and chromatography, that are used for bile acid detection. These methods have been applied in clinical practice and laboratory research to varying degrees. However, mainstream detection technology is constantly updated and replaced with the passage of time, proffering new detection technologies. Previously, gas chromatography (GS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were the most commonly used for bile acid detection. In recent years, high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) has developed rapidly and has gradually become the mainstream bile acid sample separation and detection technology. In this review, the basic principles, development and progress of technology, applicability, advantages, and disadvantages of various detection techniques are discussed and the changes in bile acids caused by related diseases are summarized.

Introduction Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are commonly used in patients with venous thromboembolism to prevent fatal pulmonary embolism, but the thrombosis risk increases after filter placement. Warfarin is a widely anticoagulant, but long-term monitoring and dose adjustments are required. Anticoagulation with rivaroxaban is more straightforward as it dose not require laboratory monitoring. This study compares the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban and warfarin as an in anticoagulation therapy for patients with IVC filter placement.Methods and analysis This is a multicentre, randomised controlled trial. In total, 200 patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) with IVC filter implantation from 10 hospitals will be recruited. The patients will be randomised to the experimental group (rivaroxaban) or the control group (nadroparin overlapped with warfarin). The primary outcomes include death of any cause, pulmonary embolism (PE)-related death, bleeding and recurrent PE/DVT. The secondary outcomes include the percentage of other vascular events, IVC filter retrieval failure and net clinical benefits. This study aims to provide reliable, verification for the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban antithrombotic therapy after IVC filter placement.Ethics and dissemination The study was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (approval number: (2019) 295). Traditionally, pavement safety performance in terms of texture, friction, and hydroplaning speed are measured separately via different devices with various limitations. This study explores the feasibility of using a novel 0.1 mm 3D Safety Sensor for pavement safety evaluation in a non-contact and continuous manner with a single hardware sensor. The 0.1 mm 3D images were collected for pavement safety measurement from 12 asphalt concrete (AC) and Portland cement concrete (PCC) field sites with various texture characteristics. The results indicate that the Safety Sensor was able to measure pavement texture data as traditional devices do with better repeatability. Moreover, pavement friction numbers can be estimated using 0.1 mm 3D data via the proposed 3D texture parameters with good accuracy using an artificial neural network, especially for asphalt pavement. Lastly, a case study of pavement hydroplaning speed prediction was performed using the Safety Sensor. The results demonstrate the potential of using ultra high-resolution 3D imaging to measure pavement safety, including texture, friction, and hydroplaning, in a non-contact, continuous, and accurate manner.

The long non-coding RNA regulator of reprogramming (lncRNA ROR) is involved in atherosclerosis (AS), but the specific mechanism remains unclear. The expressions of lncRNA ROR, let-7b-5p, Homeobox A1 (HOXA1), and apoptosis-associated proteins in the serum of AS patients and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were determined by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and Western blot. The relationships of lncRNA ROR, let-7b-5p, and HOXA1 were analyzed by Pearson's correlation test. The viability and the migration of HUVECs were measured by Cell Counting Kit-8, wound healing, and Transwell assays. The predicted target gene and the potential binding sites were confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay. lncRNA ROR was highly expressed in AS, which promoted the cell viability and migration of HUVECs, while lncRNA ROR silencing produced the opposite results. The expression of let-7b-5p, which bound to lncRNA ROR, was downregulated in AS, indicating that the two genes were negatively correlated. Besides this, let-7b-5p reversed the effects of upregulated lncRNA ROR expression on let-7b-5p expression, cell viability, and migration as well as the expressions of apoptosis-related proteins of ox-LDL-treated HUVECs. HOXA1 was targeted by let-7b-5p and upregulated in AS, with its expression being negatively correlated with let-7b-5p but positively correlated with lncRNA ROR. In ox-LDL-treated HUVECs, overexpressed HOXA1 reversed the effects of let-7b-5p, and HOXA1 silencing reversed the effects of lncRNA ROR. In AS, lncRNA ROR promoted the biological characteristics of oxidation of low-density lipoprotein-induced HUVECs via the let-7b-5p/HOXA1 axis.

The method to improve the wide-angle scanning performance of the phased array antenna is studied and presented. The proposed method is realized by the dielectric sheet to reduce the size of the wide beam antenna and mutual coupling between the elements in the array antenna. The size of the antenna element is reduced by the dielectric sheet which is arranged on the top of the feed slot. The mutual coupling of the array antenna is improved by the dielectric sheet. And, the wide-angle impedance matching performance is improved by the above method. The operating frequency band of the E- and H-plane-phased array antennas is from 3.2 to 3.8 GHz. The main beams of the E-plane scanning array antenna can scan from -90° to +90° with the gain variation less than 3 dB. The main beams of the H-plane scanning array antenna can scan from -70° to +70° with the gain variation of less than 3 dB. The E- and H-plane scanning linear array antennas with nine elements are fabricated and tested. The measured results have a good agreement with the simulated results.

Objective: The present study explored whether levetiracetam (LEV) could protect against experimental brain ischemia and enhance angiogenesis in rats, and investigated the potential mechanisms in vivo and in vitro.Methods: The middle cerebral artery was occluded for 60 min to induce middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). The Morris water maze was used to measure cognitive ability. The rotation test was used to assess locomotor function. T2-weighted MRI was used to assess infarct volume. The neuronal cells in the cortex area were stained with cresyl purple. The anti-inflammatory effects of LEV on microglia were observed by immunohistochemistry. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) were used to measure the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Western blotting was used to detect the levels of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in extracts from the ischemic cortex. Flow cytometry was used to observe the effect of LEV on neuronal cell apoptosis.Results: LEV treatment significantly increased the density of the surviving neurons in the cerebral cortex and reduced the infarct size (17.8 ± 3.3% vs. 12.9 ± 1.4%, p < 0.01) after MCAO. Concurrently, the time required to reach the platform for LEV-treated rats was shorter than that in the saline group on day 11 after MCAO (p < 0.01). LEV treatment prolonged the rotarod retention time on day 14 after MCAO (84.5 ± 6.7 s vs. 59.1 ± 6.2 s on day 14 compared with the saline-treated groups, p < 0.01). It also suppressed the activation of microglia and inhibited TNF-α and Il-1β in the ischemic brain (135.6 ± 5.2 pg/ml vs. 255.3 ± 12.5 pg/ml, 18.5 ± 1.3 pg/ml vs. 38.9 ± 2.3 pg/ml on day 14 compared with the saline-treated groups, p < 0.01). LEV treatment resulted in a significant increase in HIF-1α, VEGF, and HSP70 levels in extracts from the ischemic cerebral cortex. At the same time, LEV reduced neuronal cell cytotoxicity and apoptosis induced by an ischemic stroke (p < 0.01).Conclusion: LEV treatment promoted angiogenesis and functional recovery after cerebral ischemia in rats. These effects seem to be mediated through anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic activities, as well as inducing the expression of HSP70, VEGF, and HIF-1α.
