Abstract

The KRIF library of the neutron-, proton- and gamma-spectra emitted by the nuclei excited up to 500 MeV is presented. The KRIF contains information for about 2000 emitters which are the fragments of the ten targets fission induced by the nucleons with the energies up to 3 GeV.

Abstract

The MCFx code system for the description of neutron- and proton-induced fission of heavy nuclei in energy region 20-3000 MeV is presented. The approach integrates the optical model for reaction crosssection calculations, intranuclear cascade for description of fast particle escape, exciton model for multiparticle emission of preequilibrium nucleons and Hauser-Feshbach calculations for statistical description of fission/evaporation competition. New results of systematic calculations of fission cross-sections, multiplicities and double-differential spectra of secondary particles for Pb-Cm targets irradiated by neutrons and protons with energy 20-3000 MeV are discussed.

Abstract

The model for fission fragment mass distributions and results of calculations for low energy fission and fission induced by intermediate energy nucleons is presented. Formation of mass distributions is considered as a result of oscillations on mass asymmetry degree of freedom in the potential well calculated in the macroscopic-microscopic approach. For intermediate energy fission the distribution of fissioning nuclei is taken into account with detailed reaction calculations including direct, preequilibrium and statistical reaction stages. © 2005 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We modified and tested our code system MCFx to produce the nuclear data library for ADS. MCFx calculates the reaction cross sections through intranuclear cascade, preequilibrium emission, and compound-nucleus decay stages. The Monte Carlo model of preequilibrium nucleon emission was realized, tested, and included in MCFx. For fissile nuclei produced in the cascade + preequilibrium calculation, the calculated distributions of excitation energies, masses, and charges were used in further computing fission product yields by solving the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation on mass asymmetry at scission point. Abstract

A method of parametrizing radiative strength functions for electric dipole transitions is used to calculate the spectra of photons emitted by fragments originating from the spontaneous fission of [sup 252]Cf nuclei. The LDPL-98 library of parameters, which contains data for 2000 nuclei, is composed for performing relevant calculations. It is shown that the use of this method leads to regular agreement with experimental data—that the structure and the energy dependence of the spectra are reproduced without varying parameters suggests a statistical character of fission-fragment deexcitation. Abstract

We have measured fission fragment-mass yields for neutron-induced fission of 232Th and 238U at energies 32.8, 45.3, and 59.9 MeV. The experiments were done at quasimonoenergetic neutron beams of the Cyclotron Research Center at Louvain-la-Neuve. To detect the fission fragments, a multisection Frisch-gridded ionization chamber was used. The measurement and data analysis techniques are discussed in detail. The obtained mass yields are compared to model calculations with the intermediate-energy nuclear reaction code MCFX. The MCFX code is used to calculate the fraction of fissioning nuclei after cascade, preequilibrium, and statistical reaction stages. The formation of mass distributions is considered as a result of oscillations of the mass-asymmetry degree of freedom in the potential well calculated with the temperature-dependent shell correction method. The experimental results as well as the results of the model calculations demonstrate that the probability of symmetric fission increases with incident neutron energy for both nuclei. The comparison also shows that the symmetric fission is more enhanced for thorium than for uranium with increasing neutron energy. We also compare 238U results with available experimental data; the 232Th data were measured for the first time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
