We present a comprehensive multi-frequency catalogue of radio sources behind the Large Magellanic Cloud between 0.2 and 20 GHz, gathered from a combination of new and legacy radio continuum surveys. This catalogue covers an area of $\sim$144~deg$^2$ at angular resolutions from 45 arcsec to $\sim$3 arcmin. We find 6434 discrete radio sources in total, of which 3789 are detected at two or more radio frequencies. We estimate the median spectral index ($\alpha$; where $S_{v}\sim\nu^\alpha$) of $\alpha = -0.89 $ and mean of $-0.88 \pm 0.48$ for 3636 sources detected exclusively at two frequencies (0.843 and 1.384 GHz) with similar resolution (FWHM $\sim$40-45 arcsec). The large frequency range of the surveys makes it an effective tool to investigate Gigahertz Peak Spectrum (GPS), Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) and Infrared Faint Radio sources populations within our sample. We find 10 GPS candidates with peak frequencies near 5 GHz, from which we estimate their linear size. 1866 sources from our catalogue are (CSS) candidates with $\alpha <-0.8$. We found six candidates for High Frequency Peaker (HFP) sources, whose radio fluxes peak above 5 GHz and no sources with unconstrained peaks and $\alpha~>0.5$. We found optical counterparts for 343 of the radio continuum sources, of which 128have a redshift measurement. We present two new radio continuum images from the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) survey in the direction of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). These images are part of the Evolutionary Map of the Universe (EMU) Early Science Project (ESP) survey of the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds. The two new source lists produced from these images contain radio continuum sources observed at 960 MHz (4489 sources) and 1320 MHz (5954 sources) with a bandwidth of 192 MHz and beam sizes of 30.0"x30.0" and 16.3"x15.1", respectively. The median Root Mean Squared (RMS) noise values are 186$\mu$Jy beam$^{-1}$ (960 MHz) and 165$\mu$Jy beam$^{-1}$ (1320 MHz). To create point source catalogues, we use these two source lists, together with the previously published Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (MOST) and the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) point source catalogues to estimate spectral indices for the whole population of radio point sources found in the survey region. Combining our ASKAP catalogues with these radio continuum surveys, we found 7736 point-like sources in common over an area of 30 deg$^2$. In addition, we report the detection of two new, low surface brightness supernova remnant candidates in the SMC. The high sensitivity of the new ASKAP ESP survey also enabled us to detect the bright end of the SMC planetary nebula sample, with 22 out of 102 optically known planetary nebulae showing point-like radio continuum emission. We conduct a multi-wavelength morphological study of the Galactic supernova remnant RXJ0852.0-4622 (also known as Vela Jr., Vela Z and G266.2-1.2). RX J0852.0-4622 is coincident with the edge of the larger Vela supernova remnant causing confusion in the attribution of some filamentary structures to either RX J0852.0-4622 or its larger sibling. We find that the RX J0852.0-4622 radio continuum emission can be characterised by a 2-dimensional shell with a radius of 0.90+/-0.01deg (or 11.8+/-0.6pc at an assumed distance of 750pc) centred at (l,b)=(133.08+/-0.01 deg,-46.34+/-0.01deg) (or RA=8h52m19.2s, Dec=-46deg20'24.0'', J2000), consistent with X-ray and gamma-ray emission. Although [OIII] emission features are generally associated with the Vela SNR, one particular [OIII] emission feature, which we denote as "the Vela Claw", morphologically matches a molecular clump that is thought to have been stripped by the stellar progenitor of the RX J0852.0-4622 SNR. We argue that the Vela Claw feature is possibly associated with RX J0852.0-4622. Towards the north-western edge of RX J0852.0-4622, we find a flattening of the radio spectral index towards another molecular clump also thought to be associated with RX J0852.0-4622. N49 (LHA 120-N49) is a bright X-ray supernova remnant (SNR) in the Large Magellanic Cloud. We present new $^{12}$CO($J$ = 1-0, 3-2), HI, and 1.4 GHz radio-continuum observations of the SNR N49 using Mopra, ASTE, ALMA, and ATCA. We have newly identified three HI clouds using ATCA with an angular resolution of ~20": one associated with the SNR and the others located in front of the SNR. Both the CO and HI clouds in the velocity range from 280-291 km s$^{-1}$ are spatially correlated with both the soft X-rays (0.2-1.2 keV) and the hard X-rays (2.0-7.0 keV) of N49 on a ~10 pc scale. CO 3-2/1-0 intensity ratios indicate higher values of the CO cloud toward the SNR shell with an angular resolution of ~45", and thus a strong interaction was suggested. Using the ALMA, we have spatially resolved CO clumps embedded within or along the southeastern rim of N49 with an angular resolution of ~3''. Three of the CO clumps are rim-brightened on a 0.7-2 pc scale in both hard X-rays and the radio continuum$:$ this provides further evidence for dynamical interactions between the CO clumps and the SNR shock wave. The enhancement of the radio synchrotron radiation can be understood in terms of magnetic-field amplification around the CO clumps via a shock-cloud interaction. We also present a possible scenario in which the recombining plasma that dominates the hard X-rays from N49 was formed via thermal conduction between the SNR shock waves and the cold$/$dense molecular clumps., Comment: 28 pages, 12 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal (ApJ)

We present spatially-resolved imaging obtained with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) of three CO lines in two high-redshift gravitationally lensed dusty star-forming galaxies, discovered by the South Pole Telescope. Strong lensing allows us to probe the structure and dynamics of the molecular gas in these two objects, at z=2.78 and z=5.66, with effective source-plane resolution of less than 1kpc. We model the lensed emission from multiple CO transitions and the dust continuum in a consistent manner, finding that the cold molecular gas as traced by low-J CO always has a larger half-light radius than the 870um dust continuum emission. This size difference leads to up to 50% differences in the magnification factor for the cold gas compared to dust. In the z=2.78 galaxy, these CO observations confirm that the background source is undergoing a major merger, while the velocity field of the other source is more complex. We use the ATCA CO observations and comparable resolution Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array dust continuum imaging of the same objects to constrain the CO-H_2 conversion factor with three different procedures, finding good agreement between the methods and values consistent with those found for rapidly star-forming systems. We discuss these galaxies in the context of the star formation - gas mass surface density relation, noting that the change in emitting area with observed CO transition must be accounted for when comparing high-redshift galaxies to their lower redshift counterparts., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures; accepted for publication in ApJ
