High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
Experimental data on $\pi N $ scattering in the elastic energy region $W \leq 1.45 GeV $ are analyzed within the $K$-matrix approach with effective Lagrangians. The charge splitting in $\delta^{++}_{33} $ and $\delta^{0}_{33}$ phases obtaned in the phase shift analisys is studed . It is shown that the change in the sign in the energy dependence of the phase difference can be obtained with different formfactors of the $\Delta^{++}$ and $\Delta^{0}$ only . This means that $\Delta^{++}$ and $\Delta^{0}$ has a different size in $\pi N $ interaction. The underlying nature of the observed phenomena is discussed.

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The photoproduction of 2$\pi^0$ mesons off protons was studied with the Crystal Barrel/TAPS experiment at the electron accelerator ELSA in Bonn. The energy of photons produced in a radiator was tagged in the energy range from 600\,MeV to 2.5\,GeV. Differential and total cross sections and $p\pi^0\pi^0$ Dalitz plots are presented. Part of the data was taken with a diamond radiator producing linearly polarized photons, and beam asymmetries were derived. Properties of nucleon and $\Delta$ resonances contributing to the $p\pi^0\pi^0$ final state were determined within the BnGa partial wave analysis. The data presented here allow us to determine branching ratios of nucleon and $\Delta$ resonances for their decays into $p\pi^0\pi^0$ via several intermediate states. Most prominent are decays proceeding via $\Delta(1232)\pi$, $N(1440)1/2^+\pi$, $N(1520)3/2^-\pi$, $N(1680)5/2^+\pi$, but also $pf_0(500)$, $pf_0(980)$, and $pf_2(1270)$ contribute to the reaction., Comment: 28 pages, 17 figures, 7 tables

Cross sections for pi+-p elastic scattering have been measured to high precision, for beam momenta between 800 and 1240 MeV/c, by the EPECUR Collaboration, using the ITEP proton synchrotron. The data precision allows comparisons of the existing partial-wave analyses (PWA) on a level not possible previously. These comparisons imply that updated PWA are required., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett

DIFFERENTIAL cross sections ,ATOMIC nucleus ,COPPER ,MESONS - Abstract
First results on -dependence measurements in inclusive meson production in interactions ( , Al, Cu, Sn, and W) are presented at GeV/c. The ratios of the differential cross sections of four of these nuclei to the differential cross section on aluminum were measured and the dependence of these cross sections on the atomic of the nucleus was studied. The measurements were carried out in the kinematic region of the Feynman variable and transverse momentum GeV/c. mesons were detected in the decay mode at the SPASCHARM experimental setup using negative charged beams at beamline 14 of the U-70 accelerator complex. Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The reaction $\gamma \, p \rightarrow K^0_S\,\Sigma^+$ is studied in the photon energy range from threshold. Linearly polarised photon beams from coherent bremsstrahlung enabled the first measurement of photon beam asymmetries in this reaction up to $E_\gamma = 2250$ MeV. In addition, the recoil hyperon polarisation was determined through the asymmetry in the weak decay $\Sigma^+ \rightarrow p \pi^0$ up to $E_\gamma = 1650$ MeV. The data are compared to partial wave analyses, and the possible impact on the interpretation of a recently observed cusp-like structure near the $K^*$ thresholds is discussed., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. EPECUR experimental setup is aimed at the search of narrow resonant states by precision measurement of differential and total reaction cross sections of pion-nucleon interaction with 1 MeV pion energy steps. In five years passed from the idea of the experiment till the start of the data taking in April of 2009, a new apparatus was build from scratch at the universal beam line 322 of ITEP proton synchrotron U-10. The setup is essentially a non-magnetic spectrometer with a liquid hydrogen target based on the large aperture drift chambers with hexagonal structure. The unique properties of the beam line allow individual pion momentum measurement with the accuracy better than 0.1%. The momentum tagging is done with 1 mm pitch proportional chambers located in the first focus of the beam line. The design of numerous subsystems of the setup is based on modern electronic components including microprocessors and FPGA. All the subsystems are tuned and tested both individually and as parts of the whole working setup. The distributed data acquisition system uses widely spread USB and Ethernet protocols, which allows to achieve high performance and take full advantage of the industrial solutions., Comment: 31 pages, 15 figures, in Russian

Study of the elastic scattering can produce a rich information on the dynamics of the strong interaction. The EPECUR collaboration is aimed at the research of baryon resonances in the second resonance region via pion-proton elastic scattering and kaon-lambda production. The experiment features high statistics and better than 1 MeV resolution in the invariant mass thus allowing searches for narrow resonances with the coupling to the pi p channel as low as 5%. The experiment is of "formation" type, i.e. the resonances are produced in s-channel and the scan over the invariant mass is done by the variation of the incident pion momentum which is measured with the accuracy of 0.1% with a set of 1 mm pitch proportional chambers located in the first focus of the beam line. The reaction is identified by a magnetless spectrometer based on wire drift chambers with a hexagonal structure. Background suppression in this case depends on the angular resolution, so the amount of matter in the chambers and the setup was minimized to reduce multiple scattering. The measurements started in 2009 with the setup optimized for elastic pion-proton scattering. With 3 billions of triggers already recorded the differential cross section of the elastic pi p-scattering on a liquid hydrogen target in the region of the diffraction minimum is measured with statistical accuracy about 1% in 1 MeV steps in terms of the invariant mass. The paper covers the experimental setup, current status and some preliminary results., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, originally prepared for the proceedings of the 14th Workshop on Elastic and Diffractive Scattering (EDS Blois Workshop), December 15-21, 2011, Quy Nhon, Vietnam

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The photoproduction of \eta'-mesons off different nuclei has been measured with the CBELSA/TAPS detector system for incident photon energies between 1500 - 2200 MeV. The transparency ratio has been deduced and compared to theoretical calculations describing the propagation of \eta'-mesons in nuclei. The comparison indicates a width of the \eta' -meson of the order of \Gamma= 15-25 MeV at \rho =\rho_0 for an average momentum p_{\eta'} = 1050 MeV/c, at which the \eta'-meson is produced in the nuclear rest frame. The inelastic \eta' N cross section is estimated to be 3 - 10 mb. Parameterizing the photoproduction cross section of \eta'-mesons by \sigma(A) = \sigma_0 A^{\alpha}, a value of \alpha = 0.84\pm0.03 has been deduced., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The $\gamma + p \rightarrow K^0 + \Sigma^+$ photoproduction reaction is investigated in the energy region from threshold to $E_\gamma = 2250$\,MeV. The differential cross section exhibits increasing forward-peaking with energy, but only up to the $K^*$ threshold. Beyond, it suddenly returns to a flat distribution with the forward cross section dropping by a factor of four. In the total cross section a pronounced structure is observed between the $K^*\Lambda$ and $K^*\Sigma$ thresholds. It is speculated whether this signals the turnover of the reaction mechanism from t-channel exchange below the $K^*$ production threshold to an s-channel mechanism associated with the formation of a dynamically generated $K^*$-hyperon intermediate state., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Precise data for quasi-free photoproduction of $\eta$ mesons off the deuteron have been measured at the Bonn ELSA accelerator with the combined Crystal Barrel/TAPS detector for incident photon energies up to 2.5 GeV. The $\eta$-mesons have been detected in coincidence with recoil protons and neutrons. Possible nuclear effects like Fermi motion and re-scattering can be studied via a comparison of the quasi-free reaction off the bound proton to $\eta$-production off the free proton. No significant effects beyond the folding of the free cross section with the momentum distribution of the bound protons have been found. These Fermi motion effects can be removed by an analysis using the invariant mass of the $\eta$-nucleon pairs reconstructed from the final state four-momenta of the particles. The total cross section for quasi-free $\eta$-photoproduction off the neutron reveals even without correction for Fermi motion a pronounced bump-like structure around 1 GeV of incident photon energy, which is not observed for the proton. This structure is even narrower in the invariant mass spectrum of the $\eta$-neutron pairs. Position and width of the peak in the invariant mass spectrum are $W\approx 1665$ MeV and FWHM $\Gamma\approx 25$ MeV. The data are compared to the results of different models., Comment: accepted for publication in Eur. Phys. J. A

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Quasi-free photoproduction of $\eta '$ mesons off nucleons bound in the deuteron has been measured with the combined Crystal Barrel - TAPS detector. The experiment was done at a tagged photon beam of the ELSA electron accelerator in Bonn for incident photon energies from the production threshold up to 2.5 GeV. The $\eta '$-mesons have been detected in coincidence with recoil protons and recoil neutrons. The quasi-free proton data are in good agreement with the results for free protons, indicating that nuclear effects have no significant impact. The coincidence with recoil neutrons provides the first data for the $\gamma n \rightarrow n\eta '$ reaction. In addition, also first estimates for coherent $\eta '$-production off the deuteron have been obtained. In agreement with model predictions, the total cross section for this channel is found to be very small, at most at the level of a few nb. The data are compared to model calculations taking into account contributions from nucleon resonances and $t$-channel exchanges., Comment: Accepted for publication in Eur. Phys. J. A

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Data on the photoproduction of $\omega$ mesons on nuclei have been re-analyzed in a search for in-medium modifications. The data were taken with the Crystal Barrel(CB)/TAPS detector system at the ELSA accelerator facility in Bonn. First results from the analysis of the data set were published by D. Trnka et al. in Phys. Rev. Lett 94 (2005) 192303 \cite{david}, claiming a lowering of the $\omega$ mass in the nuclear medium by 14$%$ at normal nuclear matter density. The extracted $\omega$ line shape was found to be sensitive to the background subtraction. For this reason a re-analysis of the same data set has been initiated and a new method has been developed to reduce the background and to determine the shape and absolute magnitude of the background directly from the data. Details of the re-analysis and of the background determination are described. The $\omega$ signal on the $Nb$ target, extracted in the re-analysis, does not show a deviation from the corresponding line shape on a $LH_2$ target, measured as reference. The earlier claim of an in-medium mass shift is thus not confirmed. The sensitivity of the $\omega$ line shape to different in-medium modification scenarios is discussed., Comment: 13 pages and 11 figures, submitted for publication

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Photoproduction of $\eta$ mesons off $^{12}$C, $^{40}$Ca, $^{93}$Nb, and $^{nat}$Pb nuclei has been measured with a tagged photon beam with energies between 0.6 and 2.2 GeV. The experiment was performed at the Bonn ELSA accelerator with the combined setup of the Crystal Barrel and TAPS calorimeters. It aimed at the in-medium properties of the S$_{11}$(1535) nucleon resonance and the study of the absorption properties of nuclear matter for $\eta$ mesons. Careful consideration was given to contributions from $\eta\pi$ final states and secondary production mechanisms of $\eta$-mesons e.g. from inelastic $\pi N$ reactions of intermediate pions. The analysis of the mass number scaling shows that the nuclear absorption cross section $\sigma_{N\eta}$ for $\eta$ mesons is constant over a wide range of the $\eta$ momentum. The comparison of the excitation functions to data off the deuteron and to calculations in the framework of a BUU-model show no unexplained in-medium modifications of the S$_{11}$(1535)., Comment: Accepted for publication in Eur. Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
At the electron accelerator ELSA a linearly polarised tagged photon beam is produced by coherent bremsstrahlung off a diamond crystal. Orientation and energy range of the linear polarisation can be deliberately chosen by accurate positioning of the crystal with a goniometer. The degree of polarisation is determined by the form of the scattered electron spectrum. Good agreement between experiment and expectations on basis of the experimental conditions is obtained. Polarisation degrees of P = 40% are typically achieved at half of the primary electron energy. The determination of P is confirmed by measuring the beam asymmetry, \Sigma, in pi^0 photoproduction and a comparison of the results to independent measurements using laser backscattering., Comment: 9 pages, 10 figures, submitted to EPJA

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Quasi-free photoproduction of eta-mesons off nucleons bound in the deuteron has been measured with the CBELSA/TAPS detector for incident photon energies up to 2.5 GeV at the Bonn ELSA accelerator. The eta-mesons have been detected in coincidence with recoil protons and recoil neutrons, which allows a detailed comparison of the quasi-free n(gamma, eta)n and p(gamma, eta)p reactions. The excitation function for eta-production off the neutron shows a pronounced bump-like structure at W=1.68 GeV (E_g ~ 1 GeV), which is absent for the proton., Comment: accepted for publication in Phys. The photo production of $\omega$ mesons on the nuclei C, Ca, Nb and Pb has been measured using the Crystal Barrel/TAPS detector at the ELSA tagged photon facility in Bonn. The dependence of the $\omega$ meson cross section on the nuclear mass number has been compared with three different types of models, a Glauber analysis, a BUU analysis of the Giessen theory group and a calculation by the Valencia theory group. In all three cases, the inelastic $\omega$ width is found to be $130-150 \rm{MeV/c^2}$ at normal nuclear matter density for an average 3-momentum of 1.1 GeV/c. In the restframe of the $\omega$ meson, this inelastic $\omega$ width corresponds to a reduction of the $\omega$ lifetime by a factor $\approx 30$. For the first time, the momentum dependent $\omega$N cross section has been extracted from the experiment and is in the range of 70 mb., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Nuclear Theory - Abstract
We consider the impact of two recent pi- p-->eta n measurements on the etaN scattering length and etaN branching fractions for the N(1535) and N(1520) resonances within a coupled-channel analysis of piN elastic scattering and etaN production data. The sensitivity of these results to model input is also explored., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
The experimental data on pi N scattering in the elastic energy region T_pi < 250 MeV are analyzed within the multichannel K-matrix approach with effective Lagrangians. Isospin invariance is not assumed in this analysis and the physical values for masses of the involved particles are used. The corrections due to pi^+- pi^0 and p-n mass differences are calculated and found to be in a reasonable agreement with the NORDITA results. Analysis shows the good description of the all experimental observables. From the data, new values for mass and width of the Delta^0 and Delta^{++} resonances were obtained. The isospin symmetric version gives phase shifts values close to the new solution for the pi-N elastic scattering amplitude FA02 by the GW group based on the latest experimental data. Our analysis leads to a considerably smaller < 1% isospin violation in the energy interval T_pi ~ 30-70 MeV as compared to 7% in some older analyses, however, it does confirm recent calculations based on chiral perturbation theory., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, Phys. The EPECUR collaboration presents new high precision data on the pion-proton elastic scattering in the second resonance region. The experiment EPECUR is placed on the universal beam channel of the accelerator ITEP. The setup features 0.1% beam pion momentum tagging system, 25 cm long liquid hydrogen target, placed in mylar container and beryllium outer shell, low material wire drift chambers and high performance DAQ. More than 3 billions of triggers have been collected. The data cover pion beam momentum range 0.8 - 1.3 GeV/c and 40-120 degrees center-of-mass scattering angle range for both positive and negative pions. The measured differential cross section has 2% statistical accuracy in 2 degrees angle and 5 MeV/c momentum intervals.

The photoproduction of 2$^0$ mesons off protons was studied with the Crystal Barrel/TAPS experiment at the electron accelerator ELSA in Bonn. The energy of photons produced in a radiator was tagged in the energy range from 600\,MeV to 2.5\,GeV. Differential and total cross sections and $p^0^0$ Dalitz plots are presented. Part of the data was taken with a diamond radiator producing linearly polarized photons, and beam asymmetries were derived. Properties of nucleon and $$ resonances contributing to the $p^0^0$ final state were determined within the BnGa partial wave analysis. The data presented here allow us to determine branching ratios of nucleon and $$ resonances for their decays into $p^0^0$ via several intermediate states. Most prominent are decays proceeding via $(1232)$, $N(1440)1/2^+$, $N(1520)3/2^-$, $N(1680)5/2^+$, but also $pf_0(500)$, $pf_0(980)$, and $pf_2(1270)$ contribute to the reaction., 28 pages, 17 figures, 7 tables

The reaction gamma p -> K-S(0)Sigma(+) is studied in the photon energy range from threshold. Linearly polarised photon beams from coherent bremsstrahlung enabled the first measurement of photon beam asymmetries in this reaction up to E-gamma = 1650 MeV. In addition, the recoil hyperon polarisation was determined through the asymmetry in the weak decay Sigma(+) -> p pi(0) up to E-gamma = 2250 MeV. The data are compared to partial wave analyses, and the possible impact on the interpretation of a recently observed prominent structure in the cross section near the K* thresholds is discussed. Photoproduction off protons of the p pi(0)eta three-body final state was studied with the Crystal Barrel/TAPS detector, at the electron stretcher accelerator ELSA in Bonn, for incident energies from the pi(0)eta production threshold up to 2.5 GeV. Differential cross sections and the total cross sections are presented. The use of linearly polarized photons gives access to the polarization observables Sigma, I-s, and I-c, the latter two characterize beam asymmetries in case of three-body final states. Delta(1232)(eta), N(1535)1/2(-) pi, and pa(0)(980) are the dominant isobars contributing to the reaction. The partial wave analysis confirms the existence of some nucleon and Delta resonances, for which so far only fair evidence was reported. A large number of decay modes of known nucleon and Delta resonances is presented. It is shown that detailed investigations of decay branching ratios may provide a key to unravelling the structure of nucleon and Delta resonances.

The gamma + p -> K-0 + Sigma(+) photoproduction reaction is investigated in the energy region from threshold to E gamma = 2250 MeV. The differential cross section exhibits increasing forward-peaking with energy, but only up to the K* threshold. Beyond, it suddenly returns to a flat distribution with the forward cross section dropping by a factor of four. In the total cross section a pronounced structure is observed between the K*Lambda and K*Sigma thresholds. (C) 2012 Published by Elsevier B.V.
