The bachelor thesis "Experimental String Instruments Associated with Violin Development" deals with experimental directions in the field of string instrument development. The thesis focuses primarily on the violin and describes its historical development as well as subsequent experiments with the violin that resulted from the desire to improve an existing musical instrument or to invent something revolutionary. Most of the instruments belong to the extensive collection of musical instruments of the Czech Museum of Music, which is kept in the depository in Litoměřice. Several instruments are exhibited in the Czech Museum of Music in Prague. I talked about this with the violin maker František Špidlen and the curator of the Czech Museum of Music Jan Kříženecký. Since the experimentation is very closely related to the development of the violin, no detailed work on the experiments has been published, and the depository is inaccessible to the public, I found this work very useful. Nowadays, it is still possible to find several violin makers who try to make small changes and experiments in order to improve the sound quality of violins, which proves that the topic is still relevant.

The thesis deals with the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů and his petite compositions published in the Etudes and polkas compilation (1945). The work aims to: I. introduce Bohuslav Martinů as a significant composer of the Czech music scene, II. zoom at the etude and polka structure and music organisation through the historical development and essential characteristics, which will be conducive to a better understanding of etudes and polkas of the 20th century, III. prepare sufficient and user-friendly material for piano teachers to facilitate orientation within all the sixteen pieces, IV. offer a straightforward summary of various technical and other elements that might be met in music schools, V. tackle different ways of interpretation as well as the author's own experience regarding studying some of the pieces from the Etudas and polkas compilation. The bachelor's thesis predominantly offers historical and didactic correlative aspects. The viewpoint of the musical form and analysis is also incorporated; however, in seemingly minority compared to the first two areas mentioned. This thesis explores different ways in which pianist perceive harmony in compositions of the Romantic era. I write about history of harmony and about the context of the Romantic era at the beginning of the thesis. Then I write about Chopin and about his work with a motion, a sound and harmony. The rest of the work devotes to the research. I conducted qualitative research. I interviewed four pianists, with each pianist we talked about three compositions of the Romantic era. I gave scores of the Chopin's Mazurka B minor, op. 30, no. 2 to all of them, the rest of the compositions were chosen by the pianists. They had to choose two compositions, which were created by R. Schumann, S. Rachmaninoff, or F. Liszt. I ask them questions, which realize me to find how they work with the tonality, and to find if they find some characters in keys. I wanted to find how much is important the relief for the hands for them and how much they tend to make a detailed harmonic analysis. I also tried to find if the analysis is rather intuitive or conducted process for them. DOUBLE BASS PLAYING - Historical, Pedagogical and Musical Theoretical Aspects ABSTRACT This dissertation thesis focuses on historical, pedagogical and music theoretical aspects of double bass playing. The thesis collects data on double bass history regarding the structural development of this instrument and double bass bow, the development of tuning and using this musical instrument in particular centuries. Additionally, the introduction of this thesis contains information on the most significant double bass players of the past. Apart from the development of arts education in the Czech Republic, the research chapters survey the establishment of Academies of Arts in the former Czechoslovakia and later in the Czech and Slovak Republics. The chapter with the overview of Conservatories and Academies which currently provide double bass playing education include topical charts and graphs. The other research scope relates to the literature for double bass by the most important Czech double bassists/composers. The bachelor thesis Virtuosity in the etudes of Fryderyk Chopin, Ferenc Liszt and Sergei Rachmaninoff deals with the study of virtuosity and virtuoso elements in the etudes of Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff. The work first explains what piano virtuosity is and what it consists of. Based on this, the following chapters of the above-mentioned composers are examined and analyzed in the following chapters, as an ideal example of virtuosity. Chopin's Etudes are divided according to the issues that dominate them. Liszt's and Rachmaninov's etudes are not divided according to the issue, as they are more complex. They often contain a combination of multiple problems, and it is difficult to determine which one prevails. Despite the fact that they are not divided, they are treated in the same way as Chopin's etudes. According to the specific problems, the work finds out how to practice the etude and what pitfalls need to be overcome for the interpretation to be successful. This bachelor thesis is about the composer Johannes Brahms and his piano cycle compositions between 1892-1893. The scope of the thesis is entirely informational and educational, through a thorough analysis of every individual piano piece from the opus 116, 117, 118, 119. It specifically deals with the analysis of the requirements for their practice with attached short sheet music instructions. The beginning of the work is devoted to a brief biography and personality characteristics of Johannes Brahms and his abilities as a piano teacher. It also mentions his closest companions and his contemporary fellow musicians. The next section talks about the history of all the pieces including a harmonical and melodic analysis of each piece. The goal of the thesis "In the footsteps of the violinist Karel Halíř" is to provide a comprehensive overview of the life of the violinist Karel Halíř. The work progresses chronologically from birth till his passing and each chapter deals with a certain life period of the violinist. The work brings us information about Halíř's professional life, career and it also touches his personal and family life.

The present diploma thesis deals with the life and compositional style of M. P. Mussorgsky and the generation of The Five. Subsequently, it focuses on the analysis of Mussorgsky's piano work Pictures at an Exhibition, the circumstances of its origin and its sources of inspiration. In the section devoted to the interpretation concept, this thesis aims to analyze and then compare two selected piano performances of Pictures at an Exhibition, namely the ones by E. Kissin and K. The aim of this thesis is to provide basic orientation in the context of Bach's Piano Partitas, their content and composing strategies Bach's music encompasses in general. In the opening of the thesis, there is a brief summary of the composers's biography aimed on the moments that are connected to the creation of the partita. Hence, the work is described in detail, each part is commented on and demonstrated in short extracts of music. The author of the thesis then explores, comments and compares various interpretations and recordings made by great piano and harpsichord female personas such as Martha Argerich, Tatiana Nikolayeva and Zuzana Ruzickova. A very important chapter of this work is the one that deals with historical musical instruments (clavichord, harpsichord, organ) as opposed to usage of a modern piano and the specifics of interpreting baroque music on a keayboard instrument such as melodic ornaments, dynamics, articulation and so on. The aim of this diploma thesis is a profound understanding of the compositional intention and interpretation of the piano cycles Bagatelles et Impromtus by Bedřich Smetana. The first part of the thesis focuses on composer's personality and circumstances associated with the origin of this music piece. The second part of the thesis deals with a complex analysis of individual parts of the music cycle and its educational and interpretative grasp. Part of this thesis is an interview with pianist Miroslav Sekera and his view on the interpretation of the work.

This work studies the role of self-regulation and self-efficacy during piano practice in improved self-assessment and performance, since in the last couple of decades, research has shown that number of hours of practice is not the only predictor of improved performance. Piano students at the Beirut and Prague conservatories wrote weekly journals assessing their self-regulation during practice for nine months and then performed in an exam, in addition to filling an online questionnaire. Results showed that students self-regulated mostly using the method and social factors dimension. Moreover, although students in Prague performed a harder repertoire, they were not better in self-regulation compared to the students in Beirut, except for the time dimension of self-regulation. A list of self-regulatory behaviors is presented at the end of the work, in addition to the implications for music educators and piano students and the contributions to the field of music education in terms of preparation for performance in the absence of a teacher. The Diploma Thesis is a presentation of the notable Czech piano teacher Alena Fišerová, who spent all her professional life at the "Vzorová hudební škola" (Model Music School) in Voršilská Str. in the borough of Praha 1. The first part of the Thesis focuses on her family background and childhood. Her studies and professional life are also described. This information is mostly based on witness accounts and memories of her former pupils and friends. Exact data was verified using personal documents available and the chronicles of the Vzorová hudební škola. The Thesis follows in detail her method of teaching the piano as well as the contribution that she presented in her day and time. Alena Fišerová did not leave her mark in piano pedagogy as a teacher alone but also as the creator of many sheet music compilations, either alone or in collaboration with others. The best-known titles out of her publishing activities are the Album etud I. - V. (Album of Études, vol. I - V), to this day possibly the most commonly used compilations at the Základní umělecká škola (Fine Arts School) in the Czech Republic. The introduction and the first two chapters inform us about the method, goals and the reason of my longitudinal study in the community of visually impaired music teachers. It reminds us the beginning and the current state of that instituts and special schools, which were designated for an education of a blinded and severely visually impaired youth in the Czech lands and Slovakia in recent times. At the same time, we hear about some of the current changes that relate to the Jan Deyl Conservatory and Secondary School for the visually Impaired Students, subsidised organisation and to the music education of the visually impaired youth. The next chapters deals with the results of my longitudinal study in the field of the professional use of severely visually impaired music teachers (the graduates od KJD). These teaches offer us their own experiences and attitude to the inclusive and special education and to the subsequent integration to the major society.
