Abstract

The Patent Reform Act and the proposed creation of a pathway for the approval of follow-on biologics, both under consideration by the US Congress, have the potential to impact the biotechnology industry. The Biotechnology Industry Organization is concerned that the Patent Reform Act will stifle innovation, but is wholly supportive of biologics pathways that allow innovation and ensure patient safety.

Abstract

Mostly the assumption is made in the traditional approach to argumentation and bargaining that communication is always of value in conflict resolution. The task has been defined as prescribing the most effective means of communicating. The study, presented in this article, approaches conflict resolution in a descriptive rather than a prescriptive way and tests the assumption that communication has inherent value in conflict resolution. Varying social orientation, subjects with a cooperative orientation behaved cooperatively in a prisoner's dilemma significantly more frequently than did subjects with an individualistic or competitive orientation.

Abstract

The article discusses the importance of policy proposals to biotechnology researchers and investors as they continue to create breakthroughs that show a potential to heal and feed the world. It argues that the completion of a health care reform by the U.S. Congress can boost investor confidence. The author suggests that the Congress should provide rewards to low-carbon biofuels because of their contribution to carbon footprint reduction in the transportation industry.
