The article presents a comment by the author on the paper "Misidentified Problems and Mistaken Solutions," by Steve Grineski that appeared in the 2005 issue of the journal "Teacher Educator." According to Grineski lack of funding, too much focus on testing, and demoralized students and families, teachers and administrators will doom the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 of the U.S. to failure. However, the Teaching Commission supports the law, and believes that it is correct and courageous for the federal government to dramatically increase its investment in low-income schools while demanding clear results disaggregated by race, disability, and other sub-groups. Grineski asserts that public education has little to do with the well being of the U.S. economy. However, there is powerful evidence that, academic achievement does result in higher earnings. The U.S. National Center for Education Statistic's Digest of Education Statistics shows that the median annual income for high school dropouts is $26,000 as compared to a median annual income of $34,000 for those who graduate from high school.
