Despite extensive research, the mental health implication of social media in adolescents is not yet understood due to mixed and inconsistent findings and more in-depth qualitative studies are needed to expand our understanding of the impact of social media on adolescent mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study was to explore why and how adolescents use social media, adolescents' lived experiences on social media, how they make sense of these experiences having impact on their mental health, and the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic on their use of social media and mental health. In-depth interviews were conducted with eleven adolescents aged 14-16 (five female, six male) across England. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Two key themes were identified: the beauty of social media that captured positive experiences and emotions of adolescents and the beast of social media that captured negative experiences and emotions. From the adolescents' accounts, social media has both positive and negative impacts on their mental health, but mostly positive impacts during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results were discussed in relation to the study aims and previous study findings. The influence of social media on the mental health of adolescents has been controversial and the findings in the literature are inconclusive. Although prior studies have identified several factors that may cause or trigger the proposed relationship, little is known about the culture-related factors as an underlying mechanism that could explain the complexity of this association. This study addressed this gap by examining the associations between the two domains of social media (i.e., time spent on weekdays and weekends) and two mental health outcomes (anxiety and depression) in adolescents via the moderating effect of horizontal-vertical individualism and collectivism. 299 secondary school students (Mage = 15.21 years; 61% girls) from Türkiye (N = 176), Ireland (N = 70), and England (N = 53) completed self-report surveys. Spending more than four hours on weekdays and weekends was positively associated with anxiety and depression whereas spending more than two hours on social media during weekends was positively associated with anxiety in the entire sample. Horizontal and vertical individualism moderated the association between time spent on social media and depression in the entire sample. Background: Breastfeeding, acknowledged for its critical health benefits for both infants and mothers, remains markedly underutilized in Ireland, which reports the lowest breastfeeding rates in Europe. Recent data indicate that fewer than 60% of Irish mothers initiate breastfeeding at birth, with this rate precipitously declining in the subsequent weeks postpartum. Various sociocultural, psychological, and educational elements, such as prenatal breastfeeding education, influence this persistently low prevalence. This descriptive qualitative study explores the perspectives of mothers and healthcare professionals, specifically midwives and lactation consultants, on prenatal breastfeeding education classes in Ireland and how they influence mothers' breastfeeding decisions. Methods: A qualitative descriptive methodology was employed, utilizing online semi-structured interviews with midwives, lactation consultants (n = 10), and postnatal mothers (n = 20) from four tertiary hospitals in the Republic of Ireland. The data were subjected to reflexive thematic analysis, adhering to the six-step process of thematic analysis, to extrapolate and analyse the interview transcriptions. NVivo software was used to facilitate this analysis, given its robust capabilities in organizing, coding, and retrieving qualitative data efficiently. Four criteria for qualitative research were also used to enhance analytical rigor. Results: Prenatal breastfeeding education in Ireland often presents breastfeeding in an idealized way, resulting in a gap between mothers' expectations and their actual experiences. Participants needed practical content that included realistic scenarios and breastfeeding benefits. Additionally, findings indicate a desire for a more interactive and personalized educational model to address expectant mothers' unique needs better. Limitations of the virtual class format were also highlighted, with participants noting the potential for technology to improve engagement and personalization. The data further underscore the need for consistency and accuracy in breastfeeding education, with participants identifying standardized approaches and awareness of socio-cultural dynamics, including partner involvement, as essential elements in effective prenatal breastfeeding education. Conclusion: This study underscores the necessity for a more realistic, interactive, and standardized approach to prenatal breastfeeding education in Ireland. Current classes often set idealized expectations that may leave mothers feeling unprepared for breastfeeding's real-life challenges. Addressing these gaps by integrating practical scenarios, enhancing technological tools for virtual classes, and incorporating socio-cultural considerations could improve breastfeeding education and maternal outcomes. This qualitative descriptive study highlights a disconnect between educational objectives and mothers' actual experiences, advocating for a holistic approach that includes personalized, culturally sensitive support and comprehensive training for healthcare providers. Aim: To provide a snapshot of the extent to which nursing and the prison context features in non‐specialist/generic nursing journals. Design: Focused mapping review and synthesis. Methods: Relevant articles were examined for the extent to which they featured nursing and the prison context. A descriptive and contextual analysis of the data was carried out to provide a topography and synthesis of the key trends identified. Data Sources: Articles meeting criteria for nursing and the prison context in relevant non‐specialized, generic nursing journals (n = 7) from January 2018 to December 2022. Results: Four thousand, nine hundred and twelve (n = 4912) articles were published during the review period of which (n = 14) met inclusion criteria. The key trends identified are presented under three headings: taking an advocacy approach for better health and well‐being, examining self‐determination and autonomy in prison populations and nursing in the prison context. Conclusion: Nursing and the prison context features in non‐specialized and generic nursing journals but sparsely and infrequently. There is a need for greater visibility of nursing and the prison context in nursing journals to help reduce stigma and marginalization of those working and those detained in prison. Implication for the Profession and/or Patient Care: Nurses working in prison environments often manage extremely complex care needs. It is necessary to feature all nursing care environments in nursing journals so as to increase visibility and to act as a source of education for all. Impact (What Problem Did the Study Address? Background: Depression and anxiety are common comorbidities in heart failure (HF) and are associated with adverse outcomes including unplanned hospitalization. However, there is insufficient evidence on the factors associated with depression and anxiety for community patients with HF to inform optimal assessment and treatment in this population. Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of and factors associated with depression and anxiety in community-dwelling patients with HF. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of 302 adult patients given a diagnosis of HF referred to United Kingdom's largest specialist cardiac rehabilitation center, from June 2013 to November 2020. Main study outcomes were symptoms of depression using Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and anxiety using the General Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale. Explanatory variables included demographic and clinical characteristics and functional status from the Dartmouth COOP questionnaire: quality of life, pain, level of social activity and daily activities, and being bothered by emotional problems (feelings). Logistic regressions were performed to evaluate the association between demographic and clinical characteristics and depression and anxiety. Results: Of the sample, 26.2% reported depression and 20.2% had anxiety. Higher depression and anxiety were associated with difficulty in performing daily activities (95% confidence interval, 1.11–6.46 and 1.13–8.09, respectively) and being bothered by feelings (95% confidence interval, 4.06–21.77 and 4.25–22.46, respectively). Depression was associated with limitations in social activity (95% confidence interval, 1.06–6.34) and anxiety with distressing pain (95% confidence interval, 1.38–7.23). Conclusion: Findings indicate the importance of psychosocial interventions for patients with HF to minimize and manage depression and anxiety. Patients with HF may benefit from interventions targeted to maintain independence, promote participation in social activities, and optimally manage pain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim In this paper, the choice of classic grounded theory will be discussed and justified in the context of the first author's PhD research. Background The methodological discussion takes place within the context of PhD research entitled: Development of a stakeholder-led framework for a structured education programme that will prepare nurses and healthcare assistants to deliver a psychosocial intervention for people with dementia. There is a lack of research and limited understanding of the effect of psychosocial interventions on people with dementia. The first author thought classic grounded theory a suitable research methodology to investigate as it is held to be ideal for areas of research where there is little understanding of the social processes at work. Data sources The literature relating to the practical application of classic grounded theory is illustrated using examples relating to four key grounded theory components: * Theory development: using constant comparison and memoing. * Methodological rigour. * Emergence of a core category. * Inclusion of self and engagement with participants. Discussion Following discussion of the choice and application of classic grounded theory, this paper explores the need for researchers to visit and understand the various grounded theory options. Conclusion This paper argues that researchers new to grounded theory must be familiar with and understand the various options. The researchers will then be able to apply the methodologies they choose consistently and critically. Doing so will allow them to develop theory rigorously and they will ultimately be able to better defend their final methodological destinations. Problem: Open and responsive safeguarding communications between multiagency professionals who work with children and young people can be critical. Few studies have examined the experience of interprofessional safeguarding communications, and most reports are of social workers. This study explored safeguarding communications from the perspectives of four disciplines. Method: Semistructured interviews were conducted in (London) England with 11 professionals who were purposively sampled for their involvement in safeguarding and child protection work: school nurses (n = 4); teachers (n = 3); general practitioner (n = 1); and social workers (n = 3). Interviews were audio‐recorded, transcribed verbatim, and thematically analyzed. Findings: Five themes emerged from participant data to describe their experiences of safeguarding communications: communication technology; care coordination; professional relationships; information sharing; and, resources. Conclusions: Although participants reported positive experiences they also encountered significant communication challenges in their safeguarding roles. Complex technology could alienate as well as connect professionals, for which some IT system and process improvements were recommended. Background: Depression is prevalent among adults with chronic heart failure (CHF) and is associated with higher rates of morbidity and mortality and higher healthcare costs. Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore the efficacy of psychological interventions in reducing depression and improving quality of life and clinical outcomes (mortality, hospitalization) among adults with CHF. Methods : This study performed a systematic review involving searches of 6 databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, PsycINFO, ASSIA, and SSCI), the Cochrane library, and gray literature, completed in January 2020. Experimental and nonexperimental quantitative studies of psychological interventions for adults with CHF were included. Each study was quality appraised, and key data were extracted and tabled. Overall findings are presented as a narrative synthesis. Results : Nine studies met eligibility. Study authors sampled 757 participants and evaluated 4 psychological interventions: cognitive behavioral therapy alone or combined with exercise, mindfulness-based psychoeducation, coping skills training, and innovative holistic meditation. Cognitive behavioral therapy was significantly associated with improved depression and quality of life, and reduced hospitalization risk. Mindfulness-based psychoeducation, holistic meditation, and coping skills training positively impacted depression and quality of life. Coping skills training also reduced hospitalization and mortality risks. Conclusion : Although this review indicates that psychological interventions can be beneficial to adults with CHF who have depression, the overall weight of evidence contains a number of biases. Larger, higher-powered studies are needed to confirm or refute these findings and to better understand how specific intervention and sample characteristics relate to outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
