Since 2006 a small group of researchers from the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics started to realized one of the first European Researchers' Night in Europe: a one night-event, supported by the European Commission, that falls every last Friday of September to promote the researcher's figure and its work. Today, after thirteen editions, the project has evolved by involving more than 60 scientific partners and more than 400 events/year spread from the North to the South of Italy in 30 cities, captivating more than 50.000 attendees with a not negligible impact on the people and the press. During the years, the project has followed and sometimes anticipated the science communication trend, and BEES (BE a citizEn Scientist) is the last step of this long and thrilling evolution that brought to a huge public engagement in our territory. The experience, the methodology, and the major successful examples of the organized events are presented together with the results of the long term project impact., Comment: Presented ad EDULEARN19 11th annual International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies Palma de Mallorca (Spain). 1st - 3rd of July, 2019

Physics - Physics Education - Abstract
Since twelve years the researchers of the Roman area organize the European Researchers' Night, a project funded by European Commission to discover science and meet researchers through an Europe-wide public event dedicated to fun learning. Since the first edition in 2006, when the National Laboratory of INFN's in Frascati hosted 4000 visitors the project is always grown up to 50,000 attendees and more than 50 scientific partners. In the last edition, The Frascati Scienza association, which was born to coordinate the event, operated in over 30 Italian cities from south to north of the peninsula. In addition, the Made in Science project - European Research Week 2016/17 - has been the one of the largest project funded by the European Commission and it's often referred to as a model for organization and communication to the general public. The 12 yeas data collected and results obtained, as well as some of the most important experiences in public communication of science will be shown., Comment: 12th International Technology, Education and Development Conference, 5-7 March, 2018, Valencia, Spain, Page 1772-1780

WILDLIFE refuges ,JUSTICE ,POSTHUMANISM ,ANTHROPOCENE Epoch ,CRITICAL thinking ,THEMATIC analysis - Abstract
The growing debate on the Anthropocene epoch urges a critical reflection on the relationship between human and non-human animals. This paper reflects on the space of animal justice in wildlife sanctuaries from a post-human perspective. Our perspective on wildlife sanctuaries relies on posthumanism and its potential in terms of offering both a new epistemology and a theoretical grounding for an approach to justice that is not anthropocentric. In so doing, we also draw on concepts of animal geography and the sociology of space. In line with posthumanism, we adopt a methodology inspired by pluralism, openness, interdisciplinarity and creativity. Our narrative approach combines a thematic analysis with vignettes and features of narrative analysis. Our findings challenge the perception of wildlife sanctuaries as an ideal 'just' space for wildlife and present a posthuman stance on interaction between human and non-human animals, seeking justice for the latter. - Abstract
In the last few years, some research papers have proposed usage of UAVs organized in Flying Ad-Hoc Network (FANET) in remote areas with a poor or completely non-existent structured network to support novel application scenarios in which data generated by the end users must be processed on site with ultra-low latency. This way, a FANET can be seen as a provider of services and/or slices for extreme-edge 5G networks for delay-sensitive applications. However, keeping a FANET available and active is an ongoing challenge as the autonomy of UAVs is limited and strongly influenced by power consumption of both the engines and the computing element (CE) where the application functions are executed as virtual machines. In this paper, we present an optimization framework capable of increasing the overall duration of the FANET. To this purpose, we apply Reinforcement Learning (RL) based on Double Deep Q-learning (DDQN) to optimize the percentage of available CPU resources for Virtual Function virtualization, and Integer Linear Programming (ILP) to optimize VF placement inside the active UAVs of the FANET.

- Abstract
During any emergency response, the real-time GNSS data analysis strategies based on differential approach (i.e. Real Time Kinematic) needs some crucial a-priori information on the reference stations. In addition to their location in an undeformed area, this choice can be also influenced by other parameters (RMS of the time series, battery voltages, transmission on/off, number of visible satellites, etc.). For this reason, we developed an intelligent homemade algorithm BC-RTK (Base Choice - RTK) able to choose the more reliable baselines to potentially provide the best RTK results, it defines stations’ priority to the real-time GNSS analysis whose results are stored in a time-series database. This algorithm is a part of a software, called GNSS-RTT(Global Navigation Satellite System - Real Time Tracker), developed in 2022/2023. It is an open source software that can be either connected to different GNSS receivers through a different type of connection (Tcp/ip, Ntrip, etc.) or linked to a Ntrip Caster. For the solutions, it is able to get the data in different formats (NMEA, LLH,XYZ, etc.) and at different sampling frequencies up to 200 Hz. The data is stored in an optimized database called InfluxDB(https://www.influxdata.com) for real-time and IoT applications. It was developed to manage the data efficiently, allowing both real-time and post-processed visualization. The visualization is performed by means of web applications, such as Grafana (https://grafana.com) or Chronograf (https://www.influxdata.com/time-series-platform/chronograf).We will describe the technical aspects relating to the presented software and some preliminary results in test cases. , The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

- Abstract
The INGV RING research infrastructure is based on a permanent GNSS network developed to measure deformation at different spatial and temporal scales in the Mediterranean region. The network (http://ring.gm.ingv.it/) consists of ~250 real-time transmitting remote sites, using standard RTCM format, towards the Irpinia acquisition centres (Southern Italy). Data streaming is managed by a Ntrip Caster (https://igs.bkg.bund.de/ntrip/bkgcaster), whose sourcetable is synchronized with the RING database, thus guaranteeing reliable metadata for the analysis. Within the EWRICA project, the real-time data analysis is performed by using the RTPPP software (Ge et al.,2012) that provides different Precise Point Positioning products with increasing accuracies (standard PPP, PPP-AR and PPP-RA). On 24-h data, the ambiguity resolution (PPP-AR) and the regional augmentation (PPP-RA) allows accuracies of ~1 cm and ~3 cm for the horizontal and vertical components, respectively, at the best sites. Using shorter sliding windows (i.e. 60 s or 120 s, thus simulating a real-time situation), the accuracies are ~0,5 cm and ~1 cm for horizontal and vertical components, respectively. We also tested a homemade algorithm able to detect co-seismic static offsets in real-time in a simulated real-time strategy. The first results make the RING real-time solutions a potential contribution to be tested in earthquake and tsunami warning systems in Italy and surrounding regions. We will show the RING architecture, from the data to the PPP results, an evaluation of the uncertainties, and some examples of offset detection for recent earthquakes. , The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

- Abstract
Item does not contain fulltext, BACKGROUND: Testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT), histologically classified as seminomas and nonseminomas, are believed to arise from primordial gonocytes, with the maturation process blocked when they are subjected to DNA methylation reprogramming. SNPs in DNA methylation machinery and folate-dependent one-carbon metabolism genes have been postulated to influence the proper establishment of DNA methylation. METHODS: In this pathway-focused investigation, we evaluated the association between 273 selected tag SNPs from 28 DNA methylation-related genes and TGCT risk. We carried out association analysis at individual SNP and gene-based level using summary statistics from the Genome Wide Association Study meta-analysis recently conducted by the international Testicular Cancer Consortium on 10,156 TGCT cases and 179,683 controls. RESULTS: In individual SNP analyses, seven SNPs, four mapping within MTHFR, were associated with TGCT risk after correction for multiple testing (q ≤ 0.05). Queries of public databases showed that three of these SNPs were associated with MTHFR changes in enzymatic activity (rs1801133) or expression level in testis tissue (rs12121543, rs1476413). Gene-based analyses revealed MTHFR (q = 8.4 × 10-4), methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 (MECP2; q = 2 × 10-3), and ZBTB4 (q = 0.03) as the top TGCT-associated genes. Stratifying by tumor histology, four MTHFR SNPs were associated with seminoma. In gene-based analysis MTHFR was associated with risk of seminoma (q = 2.8 × 10-4), but not with nonseminomatous tumors (q = 0.22). CONCLUSIONS: Genetic variants within MTHFR, potentially having an impact on the DNA methylation pattern, are associated with TGCT risk. IMPACT: This finding suggests that TGCT pathogenesis could be associated with the folate cycle status, and this relation could be partly due to hereditary factors.

Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background – Although percutaneous mitral valve repair is an attractive alternative treatment option for patients with severe mitral regurgitation (MR) at high surgical risk, residual MR is commonly observed after the procedure and little is known about its impact on outcomes after MitraClip therapy, expecially in patients with severe left ventricular (LV) impairment. Purpose – The aim of this prospective, observational study was to evaluate the impact of residual MR (MR ≤1+ vs. MR >1+) on long-term outcomes of mitral valve repair with the MitraClip System in high surgical risk patients presenting with moderate-to-severe or severe MR and with severe reduction of LV ejection fraction (EF). Methods – Patients enrolled in the prospective Getting Reduction of Mitral Insufficiency by Percutaneous Clip Implantation (GRASP) with functional MR and EF ≤30% who were eligible at almost five-year follow-up were included in the present analysis. The primary endpoint was death at 5-year follow-up. Also echocardiographic parameters at baseline and 5-year follow-up and rehospitalization rates were assessed. Results – A total of 139 patients were included: 92 (66.2%) with post-procedural residual MR ≤1+ and 47 (33.8%) with residual MR > 1+ (41 patients with residual MR 2+, 5 with residual MR 3+, 1 with residual MR 4+). Comparable clinical and echocardiographic baseline characteristics were observed between the two groups except for NYHA functional class IV and implanted pace-maker (more frequent in patients with residual MR >1+) and previous myocardial infarction (more frequent in patients with residual MR ≤1+). At 5-year follow-up, no significant differences were reported in the primary endpoint (49.6% in patients with residual MR ≤ 1+ vs. 65.3% in patients with residual MR > 1+, p 0.203) and in cardiac death (37.8% in patients with residual MR ≤ 1+ vs. 42.6% in patients with residual MR > 1+, p 0.921). Cox regression analysis identified residual MR > 1+ as an independent predictor of re-hospitalization (HR 0.51, 95% CI 0.28-0.92, p =0.026). At 5-year follow-up, a significant reduction in left ventricular end-systolic volume was observed in patients with residual MR ≤ 1+. Conclusions – At 5-year follow no significant differences in survival emerged in patients with severe LV dysfunction undergoing MitraClip therapy regardless residual MR. Nevertheless residual MR > 1+ emerged as an indipendent predictor of re-hospitalization.

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to describe baseline characteristics, and periprocedural and mid-term outcomes of patients undergoing transcatheter mitral valve interventions post-transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and examine their clinical benefit. BACKGROUND The optimal management of residual mitral regurgitation (MR) post-TAVR is challenging. METHODS This was an international registry of 23 TAVR centers. RESULTS In total, 106 of 24,178 patients (0.43%) underwent mitral interventions post-TAVR (100 staged, 6 concomitant), most commonly percutaneous edge-to-edge mitral valve repair (PMVR). The median interval post-TAVR was 164 days. Mean age was 79.5 +/- 7.2 years, MR was >moderate in 97.2%, technical success was 99.1%, and 30-day device success rate was 88.7%. There were 18 periprocedural complications (16.9%) including 4 deaths. During a median follow-up of 464 days, the cumulative risk for 3-year mortality was 29.0%. MR grade and New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class improved dramatically; at 1 year, MR was moderate or less in 90.9% of patients (mild or less in 69.1%), and 85.9% of patients were in NYHA functional class I/II. Staged PMVR was associated with lower mortality versus medical treatment (57.5% vs. 30.8%) in a propensity-matched cohort (n = 156), but this was not statistically significant (hazard ratio: 1.75; p = 0.05). CONCLUSIONS For patients who continue to have significant MR, remain symptomatic post-TAVR, and are anatomically suitable for transcatheter interventions, these interventions are feasible, safe, and associated with significant improvement in MR grade and NYHA functional class. These results apply mainly to PMVR. A staged PMVR strategy was associated with markedly lower mortality, but this was not statistically significant. In this demonstration we illustrate how haptic communication can occur via a mobile application. In particular, we present an Android-based platform that allows connectivity among haptic devices and smartphones. Our app was designed specifically for educational applications, and we used the Hapkit as our first exemplary hardware platform. Our open-source implementation offers several haptic emulations designed for K-12 Physics courses; furthermore, our Android application provides instrumented metrics capable of analyzing latency and other network parameters among communicating hardware and software processes.

Background We compared Kaposi sarcoma (KS) risk in adults who started antiretroviral therapy (ART) across the Asia-Pacific, South Africa, Europe, Latin, and North America. Methods We included cohort data of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive adults who started ART after 1995 within the framework of 2 large collaborations of observational HIV cohorts. We present incidence rates and adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs). Results We included 208140 patients from 57 countries. Over a period of 1066572 person-years, 2046 KS cases were diagnosed. KS incidence rates per 100000 person-years were 52 in the Asia-Pacific and ranged between 180 and 280 in the other regions. KS risk was 5 times higher in South African women (aHR, 4.56; 95% confidence intervals [CI], 2.73-7.62) than in their European counterparts, and 2 times higher in South African men (2.21; 1.34-3.63). In Europe, Latin, and North America KS risk was 6 times higher in men who have sex with men (aHR, 5.95; 95% CI, 5.09-6.96) than in women. Comparing patients with current CD4 cell counts ≥700 cells/µL with those whose counts were
