Abstract

This article offers a generalized perspective on the integration of digital technologies in human resource management (HRM) practices in the Russian Federation. The authors discuss variations in businesses' resource-tied readiness and organizational readiness for digitalization of HRM, emphasize the emergence of firms that serve as "role models" to others, and highlight specific government policies that impact HRM. The study is based on an analysis of government and corporate documents, review of scholarly publications, archival sources, and media reports, and informal discussions with managers. It summarizes successful digital innovations in the selection and recruitment, training and development, and work organization, as well as in the integration of HRM into enterprise-wide information systems. Abstract

The state of entrepreneurship in the new Russia has been shrouded in myth and misinformation despite notable activity and interest in that area. A review of the historical background of entrepreneurship in the former USSR with due emphasis on the Tsarist and Soviet eras is provided. Conclusions point out that entrepreneurs operating in Russia are not much different from those which flourish in other Western cultures.

Abstract

The study of cultural perceptions of the role of women in Bulgarian management is based on the survey of 125 Bulgarian managers conducted in 2014-2015 and application of the GLOBE cross-cultural research methodology. It highlights relatively high scores on behavior-tied perceptions of Gender Egalitarianism in Bulgaria compared to 62 societies and moderate scores on value-tied scores. The study displays visible gaps in perceptions of gender roles between women managers and male managers. The paper also compares Bulgarian managers' perceptions on Gender Egalitarianism with the data from the European Union countries and confirms their consistency with the broader GLOBE research assessments. Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter presents the basic strategies and methods of cross-linking of RNA polymerase (RNAP) active center. In order to achieve the high selectivity of affinity labeling for RNA polymerase, it is required to take advantage of “catalytic competence.” This phenomenon reflects the ability of a substrate residue cross-linked at the active center of an enzyme to convert to a cross-linked product by the same enzyme molecule according to the normal mechanism of catalysis. At the first stage RNAP is treated in the binary complex with a promoter by affinity reagent, which is an analog of initiating substrate. This results in the cross-linking of affinity reagent residues both inside and outside the active center. At the second stage the modified enzyme is supplemented with the second radioactive substrate complementary to the next base of DNA template. The chapter discusses RNA–protein cross-linking in the active center of initiating and elongation. Single-Hit degradation of polypeptides at particular residues is also discussed.. Multiple cross-linking sites can be revealed by quantitative analysis of single-hit degradation products. Another approach that appears to be very helpful for the mapping is based on the usage of functionally active enzymes assembled from the fragments of RNAP subunits.
