Binjharpuri, a dual purpose indigenous breed of Odisha is commonly reared for its various advantages, viz. optimum milk production in low input management system, excellent draft ability in hot humid climate condition and heat resistance ability. In the present study, attempt was made to evaluate production performance along with influence of non- genetic effects such as location, lactation order and season of calving on production traits of binjharpuri cattle. The overall average least square means along with standard error for lactation milk yield, average daily milk yield, peak yield, lactation length and dry period were found to be 974.490±6.788 kg, 3.557±0.023 kg, 4.633±0.021 kg, 274.444±1.249 days and 121.913±0.611 days, respectively. Location had highly significant effect on lactation milk yield, average daily milk yield, lactation length and dry period, whereas non-significant effect on peak yield. Lactation order too had highly significant effect on the traits considered under study. Season of calving had highly significant effect on lactation milk yield, average daily milk yield; significant effect on lactation length whereas non-significant effect on peak yield and dry period. Significant influence of non-genetic factors and significant variations in traits under study is suggestive that remarkable improvement in the Binjharpuri cattle populace can be targeted through better management and by nurturing effective breeding strategies.

Antimicrobial-peptides are important molecules of constitutive innate immunity. Though patients with diabetes mellitus are generally prone to infections, there is limited information on their antimicrobialpeptide status. We assessed the circulating LL-37 antimicrobial peptide (also referred as cathelicidin) levels in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and its relation with their glycemic status. The LL-37 mRNAexpression was assessed in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) by quantitative RTPCR using ß-actin and cytochrome-C1 as the reference genes in 154 subjects (Type 1 diabetes, n=111 and healthy subjects, n=43). Serum LL-37 was quantified using sandwich-ELISA. Average HbA1c over last 2 years and current HbA1c were used to determine long-term and short-term glycemic status. LL-37 mRNAexpression and serum LL-37 levels were correlated with the glycemic status. The LL-37 mRNA copies were comparable between type 1 diabetes and healthy subjects [median (IQR) = 6.7 (1.8–15.28) vs. 7.2 (2.23–21.86), respectively, P = 0.42]. There was no significant difference in serum LL-37 levels between the two groups [median (IQR) = 3.9 (2.88–7.52) vs. 5.0 (3.19–9.05) ng/ml, respectively, P = 0.52]. The LL-37 mRNA and its protein concentration showed no significant correlation with the average or current HbA1c values. The constitutive circulating antimicrobial peptide LL-37 status is not significantly altered in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and also not affected by their glycemic status.

The effect of sintering temperature on the mechanical and tribological characteristics of 2D phase reinforced copper-based composite has been investigated in the present study. The Cu-based composites containing 2 wt. % of(GO + MoS2)NP were sintered at different temperatures (1023, 1073, 1123, and 1173 K) by microwave sintering process. The microstructural features observed by SEM and HRTEM of composites suggest that as the sintering temperature increases (GO + MoS2)NP pocket formation tendency also increases, which also governs the mechanical and tribological characteristics of composites. As the sintering temperature elevated, the ultimate tensile strength of the composite decreases, whereas friction and wear rate decrease with increase in temperature up to 1123 and beyond 1123 increase in friction and wear has been observed. The decrease in strength with increasing sintering temperature has been attributed to the grain size increment and increase in (GO + MoS2)NP pocket size at the grain boundaries. However, the decrease in friction and wear rate has been ascribed to the ease of extrusion of (GO + MoS2)NP from the pockets for the composites sintered at high temperature, rather than extrusion of (GO + MoS2)NP of fillers from the intra-grainular sites, i.e., for the composites sintered at lower temperature. Rapeseed is a short duration, self-pollinated and long day crop. It is an important and widely used oil seed crops among the people of Assam and North-East India. However, there is still lack of sufficient rapeseed genotypes for the local farmers. Only a few improved genotypes are recommended in the region. To increase the production and productivity, more numbers of improved genotypes have to be identified. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted at the Instructional-cum-Research (ICR) Farm, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam, during rabi 2021-22 and 2022-23 to study the genotypic variations of phenological and growth parameters in rapeseed genotypes. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications comprising of 22 different genotypes of rapeseed including TS-38 (Check), TS-46, TS-67, TS-36, TS- 29, TS-75-1, TS-75-1TL, TS-75-2ME, TS-75-2-MM, TS-76-1, TS-76-2, JT-90-1, Panchali, Bhawani, CG Toria-4, TKM-20-1, TKM-20-2, JT-14-5, PT-2018-09, CG Toria-3, Tapeshwari and PT-303. The crops were grown following the recommended package of practice. All the phenological and growth parameters were taken following the standard methodologies. The result of the experiment indicated significant difference in reaching phenological and growth parameters among the genotypes. The genotype JT-14-5 and TKM-20-2 took the longest duration for 50% flowering and siliqua initiation. However, JT-14-5 and JT- 90-1 took the longest duration for physiological maturity. On the other hand, TS-67 and TS-75-1TL took the shortest duration for physiological maturity. The genotype TS-75- 2ME showed highest dry weight followed by the genotype TS-38 at harvest. There was gradual increase in Absolute Growth Rate and Crop Growth Rate with the advancement of growth. However, in case of Relative Growth Rate, a decline was noticed in the values from 30-60 DAS to 60 DAS-harvest. The genotype TS-75-2ME and TS-38 were recorded highest yield and highest Crop Growth Rate during 30-60 DAS indicating that the parameter at that particular stage of growth, has positive impact on seed yield.
