Abstract

The study of sorting permutations by block interchanges has recently been stimulated by a phenomenon observed in the genome maintenance of certain ciliate species. The result was the identification of a block interchange operation that applies only under certain constraints. Interestingly, this constrained block interchange operation can be generalized naturally to simple graphs and to an operation on square matrices. This more general context provides numerous techniques applicable to the original context. In this paper we consider the more general context, and obtain an enumeration, in closed form, of all simple graphs on n vertices that are ``sortable" by the graph analogue of the constrained version of block interchanges. We also obtain asymptotic results on the proportion of graphs on n vertices that are so sortable.

Abstract

Binjharpuri, a dual purpose indigenous breed of Odisha is commonly reared for its various advantages, viz. optimum milk production in low input management system, excellent draft ability in hot humid climate condition and heat resistance ability. In the present study, attempt was made to evaluate production performance along with influence of non- genetic effects such as location, lactation order and season of calving on production traits of binjharpuri cattle. The overall average least square means along with standard error for lactation milk yield, average daily milk yield, peak yield, lactation length and dry period were found to be 974.490±6.788 kg, 3.557±0.023 kg, 4.633±0.021 kg, 274.444±1.249 days and 121.913±0.611 days, respectively. Location had highly significant effect on lactation milk yield, average daily milk yield, lactation length and dry period, whereas non-significant effect on peak yield. Lactation order too had highly significant effect on the traits considered under study. Season of calving had highly significant effect on lactation milk yield, average daily milk yield; significant effect on lactation length whereas non-significant effect on peak yield and dry period. Significant influence of non-genetic factors and significant variations in traits under study is suggestive that remarkable improvement in the Binjharpuri cattle populace can be targeted through better management and by nurturing effective breeding strategies.

Abstract

We look for exact solutions in scalar field cosmology. To achieve this we use $f(R)$ modified gravity with a scalar field and do not specify the the form of the $f(R)$ function. In particular, we study Friedmann universe assuming that acceleration of the scalar curvature is negligible. We first present solutions for special cases and then the general solution. Using initial conditions which represent the universe at the present epoch, we evaluated the constants of integration. This allows for the comparison of the scale factor in the new solutions with that of the $\Lambda CDM$ solution, thereby affecting the age of the universe in $f(R)$ gravity., Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures, Revised version submitted for publication with additional references and minor additions

Abstract

The effect of sintering temperature on the mechanical and tribological characteristics of 2D phase reinforced copper-based composite has been investigated in the present study. The Cu-based composites containing 2 wt. % of(GO + MoS2)NP were sintered at different temperatures (1023, 1073, 1123, and 1173 K) by microwave sintering process. The microstructural features observed by SEM and HRTEM of composites suggest that as the sintering temperature increases (GO + MoS2)NP pocket formation tendency also increases, which also governs the mechanical and tribological characteristics of composites. As the sintering temperature elevated, the ultimate tensile strength of the composite decreases, whereas friction and wear rate decrease with increase in temperature up to 1123 and beyond 1123 increase in friction and wear has been observed. The decrease in strength with increasing sintering temperature has been attributed to the grain size increment and increase in (GO + MoS2)NP pocket size at the grain boundaries. However, the decrease in friction and wear rate has been ascribed to the ease of extrusion of (GO + MoS2)NP from the pockets for the composites sintered at high temperature, rather than extrusion of (GO + MoS2)NP of fillers from the intra-grainular sites, i.e., for the composites sintered at lower temperature. Abstract

A {\gamma}-ray linear polarization measurement has been performed to directly determine the parities for the levels in 146Gd nucleus. High-spin states in this nucleus were populated in a reaction 115In + 34S at 140 MeV incident energy. Linearly polarized {\gamma} - rays emitted from oriented states were measured using a Compton polarimeter consisting of an array of 8 Compton-suppressed Clover detectors. Unambiguous assignments of the spin and parity have been made for most of the observed levels and changes made in the previously reported spin-parity assignments for a few levels. Shell model calculations performed with judicious truncation over the {\pi}(gdsh) valence space interpret the structure of only the low-lying levels up to J{\pi} = 19+ and 9-. N = 82 neutron-core breaking is found to be essential for high spin states with excitation energies Ex > 7 MeV., Comment: 29 pages, including 11 figures. Communicated to Physical Review C

Abstract

In this work, the phenomenon of formation of localised electrostatic waves (ESW) or soliton is considered in a warm magnetoplasma with the possibility of non-thermal electron distribution. The parameter regime considered here is relevant in case of magnetospheric plasmas. We show that deviation from a usual relaxed Maxwellian distribution of the electron population has a significant bearing in the allowed parameter regime, where these ESWs can be found.
