The preparation of the alkaline earth metal bis(diphenylamides) which are potentially useful as polymerization initiators, through metathesis and metalation reactions, depending on the metal is presented.

The studies about the carbonate and carbamate chemistry related to zinc(II) complexes of azamacrocyclic ligands are discussed. The findings suggest that the reactivity of the Zn-azamacrocylce moiety should be considered for enzyme model studies.

The metalation of phenylphosphane with Mg[Et.sub.2] or Mg[Bu.sub.2] which formed polymeric magnesium bis(phenyl-phosphanide) is reported. The studies of these mixed alkali metal-magnesium phosphanides provide insight into their reactivity and behavior in inverse crown ethers.

The anilides of the alkaline earth metals were investigated to study their transition from salt-like M[(N[H.sub.2]).sub.2] to the molecular ether complexes of M[(N[Ph.sub.2]).sub.2].

A dealkylsilylation reaction of alumazene [2,6-(i-Pr)2C6H3NAIMe]3 with trimethylsilyl methylsulfonate in a 1:2 molar ratio in toluene afforded a supramolecular cyclic hexamer {Me[2,6-(i-Pr)2C6H3NAIMe]3-(O3SMe)2}6 composed of six intact alumazene rings and possessing two types of bridging sulfonate groups. Changing the reagent molar ratio to 1:3 caused the third sulfonate to partially substitute the last alumazene methyl group in an eta(super 2) fashion and induced a disorder in the crystal lattice.
