Abstract

We suggest a nanoelectromechanical setup which generates a particular type of motion - the circular motion of mesoscopic superconducting grain, where motion is described by entangled nanomechanical coherent states. The setup is based on mesoscopic terminal utilizing the AC Josephson effect between the superconducting electrodes and the grain, operating in the regime of the Cooper pair box controlled by the gate voltage. The grain is placed on the free end of the suspended cantilever, performing controlled two-dimensional mechanical vibrations. Required functionality is achieved by operating two external parameters, bias voltage between the superconducting electrodes and voltage between gate electrodes, by which the nanomechanical coherent states are formed and organised in a pair of entangled cat-states in two perpendicular spatial directions which evolve in time in the way to provide a circular motion., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Although the link between alcohol involvement and behavioral phenotypes (e.g. impulsivity, negative affect, executive function [EF]) is well-established, the directionality of these associations, specificity to stages of alcohol involvement, and extent of shared genetic liability remain unclear. We estimate longitudinal associations between transitions among alcohol milestones, behavioral phenotypes, and indices of genetic risk. METHODS: Data came from the Collaborative Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism (n = 3681; ages 11-36). Alcohol transitions (first: drink, intoxication, alcohol use disorder [AUD] symptom, AUD diagnosis), internalizing, and externalizing phenotypes came from the Semi-Structured Assessment for the Genetics of Alcoholism. EF was measured with the Tower of London and Visual Span Tasks. Polygenic scores (PGS) were computed for alcohol-related and behavioral phenotypes. Cox models estimated associations among PGS, behavior, and alcohol milestones. RESULTS: Externalizing phenotypes (e.g. conduct disorder symptoms) were associated with future initiation and drinking problems (hazard ratio (HR)⩾1.16). Internalizing (e.g. social anxiety) was associated with hazards for progression from first drink to severe AUD (HR⩾1.55). Initiation and AUD were associated with increased hazards for later depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation (HR⩾1.38), and initiation was associated with increased hazards for future conduct symptoms (HR = 1.60). EF was not associated with alcohol transitions. Drinks per week PGS was linked with increased hazards for alcohol transitions (HR⩾1.06). Problematic alcohol use PGS increased hazards for suicidal ideation (HR = 1.20). CONCLUSIONS: Behavioral markers of addiction vulnerability precede and follow alcohol transitions, highlighting dynamic, bidirectional relationships between behavior and emerging addiction.

Abstract

Controlling and channelling light emissions from unpolarized quantum dots into specific directions with chiral polarization remains a key challenge in modern photonics. Stacked metasurface designs offer a potential compact solution for chirality and directionality engineering. However, experimental observations of directional chiral radiation from resonant metasurfaces with quantum emitters remain obscure. In this paper, we present experimental observations of unidirectional chiral emission from a twisted bi-layer metasurface via multi-dimensional control, including twist angle, interlayer distance, and lateral displacement between the top and bottom layers, as enabled by doublet alignment lithography (DAL). First, maintaining alignment, the metasurface demonstrates a resonant intrinsic optical chirality with near-unity circular dichroism of 0.94 and reflectance difference of 74%, where a high circular dichroism greater than 0.9 persists across a wide range of angles from -11 to 11 degrees. Second, engineered lateral displacement induces a unidirectional chiral resonance, resulting in unidirectional chiral emission from the quantum dots deposited onto the metasurface. Our bi-layer metasurfaces offer a universal compact platform for efficient radiation manipulation over a wide angular range, promising potential applications in miniaturized lasers, grating couplers, and chiral nanoantennas., Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

We suggest a nanoelectromechanical setup that generates properly entangled ancillary ("ancilla") qubits for error correction algorithms in quantum computing, demonstrated as an encoder for the three-qubit bit flip code. The setup is based on mesoscopic terminal utilizing the AC Josephson effect between voltage biased superconducting electrodes and mechanically vibrating mesoscopic superconducting grain in the regime of the Cooper pair box, controlled by the gate voltage. Required functionality is achieved by specifically tailored time-protocol of operating two external parameters: bias voltage and gate voltage. The superconducting grain is fixed on the free end of a cantilever, performing controlled in-plane mechanical vibrations, generating the nanomechanical coherent states organised in a pair of entangled cat-states in two perpendicular spatial directions. Cooper pair box and nanomechanical coherent states become three entangled qubits in a particular way: quantum information, initially encoded in superposition of the Cooper pair box states, is transduced into quantum superposition of two special 3-qubit entangled states, $\vert \uparrow + \, + \rangle$ and $\vert \downarrow - \, - \rangle$. Abstract

The Ural type of the domestic black-and-white breed is distinguished by high productivity indicators, good suitability for use in the conditions of industrial milk technology. To obtain modern dairy cattle, related breeds were used in the herds, a significant number of animals obtained as a result of closely related breeding were revealed. the study of the influence of the degree of inbreeding on the growth and development of repair young is relevant and has practical significance. It was found that the live weight of heifers in all accounting periods practically did not differ, that is, it can be said that the method of obtaining heifers using unrelated or related selection did not affect the dynamics of live weight during their cultivation. The average daily gains in live weight differed slightly by growth periods and by groups. So they were higher in the periods from the first to the first fruitful insemination and from 10 to 12 months, lower gains were noted in the period from the moment of fruitful insemination to 18 months of age. The highest milk yield for lactation was obtained from the first heifers with a remote degree of inbreeding.

Abstract

The context of this paper is the creation of large uniform archaeological datasets from heterogeneous published resources, such as find catalogues - with the help of AI and Big Data. The paper is concerned with the challenge of consistent assemblages of archaeological data. We cannot simply combine existing records, as they differ in terms of quality and recording standards. Thus, records have to be recreated from published archaeological illustrations. This is only a viable path with the help of automation. The contribution of this paper is a new workflow for collecting data from archaeological find catalogues available as legacy resources, such as archaeological drawings and photographs in large unsorted PDF files; the workflow relies on custom software (AutArch) supporting image processing, object detection, and interactive means of validating and adjusting automatically retrieved data. We integrate artificial intelligence (AI) in terms of neural networks for object detection and classification into the workflow, thereby speeding up, automating, and standardising data collection. Objects commonly found in archaeological catalogues - such as graves, skeletons, ceramics, ornaments, stone tools and maps - are detected. Those objects are spatially related and analysed to extract real-life attributes, such as the size and orientation of graves based on the north arrow and the scale. We also automate recording of geometric whole-outlines through contour detection, as an alternative to landmark-based geometric morphometrics. Detected objects, contours, and other automatically retrieved data can be manually validated and adjusted. We use third millennium BC Europe (encompassing cultures such as 'Corded Ware' and 'Bell Beaker', and their burial practices) as a 'testing ground' and for evaluation purposes; this includes a user study for the workflow and the AutArch software.

We propose a nanomechanical device which can actuate and probe a flying qubit that can be used to facilitate quantum information transfer over a long distance. The flying qubit is formed by a movable Cooper pair box (CPB) consisting of a superconducting dot and a bulk superconductor which are entangled by removing the Coulomb blockade of Cooper pair tunneling electrostatically. We suggest that flying qubit states formed on movable CPB can be observed in electron transport to a normal electrode via Andreev reflections. Abstract

Dielectric nanostructures have demonstrated optical antenna effects due to Mie resonances. Preliminary investigations on dielectric nanoantennas have been carried out for a trifecta of enhancements, i.e., simultaneous enhancements in absorption, emission directionality and radiative decay rates of quantum emitters. However, these investigations are limited by fragile substrates or low Purcell factor, which is extremely important for exciting quantum emitters electrically. In this paper, we present a Si mix antenna array to achieve the trifecta enhancement of ~1200 fold with a Purcell factor of ~47. The antenna design incorporates ~10 nm gaps within which fluorescent molecules strongly absorb the pump laser energy through a resonant mode. In the emission process, the antenna array increases the radiative decay rates of the fluorescence molecules via Purcell effect and provides directional emission through a separate mode. Abstract

We suggest a nanoelectromechanical setup and corresponding time-protocol for controlling parameters in order to demonstrate nanomechanical manipulation of superconducting charge-qubit quantum network. We illustrate it on an example reflecting important task for quantum information processing - transmission of quantum information between two charge-qubits facilitated by nanomechanics. The setup is based on terminals utilizing the AC Josephson effect between bias voltage-controlled bulk superconductors and mechanically vibrating mesoscopic superconducting grain in the regime of the Cooper pair box, controlled by the gate voltage. The described manipulation of quantum network is achieved by transduction of quantum information between charge-qubits and intentionally built nanomechanical coherent states, which facilitate its transmission between qubits. Abstract

In 2002, a new Ural type of black-and-white breed was officially registered. Animals of this type have high productivity indicators, but at the same time there is a decrease in the productive longevity of the breeding stock. The conjugacy of milk yield for lactation is established, which allows for the first lactation to carry out selection fory milk yield. The relationship of milk yield for the first lactation weakens with the age of the animals and becomes negative for the fifth lactation. The conjugacy of such characteristics as milk yield per lactation and fat mass fraction in milk varies both by lactation and relative to milk yield per lactation. The conjugacy between milk yield and protein in milk for lactation was negative with fluctuations from low to medium-negative. For 5 lactation, there is a high positive relationship between milk yield for the first lactation and protein mass fraction in milk for 5 lactation. There are fluctuations in the correlation coefficients for fat mass fraction in milk for lactations, the conjugation of the trait with each other remains positive in the period from the first to the 4 lactation, excluding the correlation coefficient of this indicator between 1 and 5 lactation.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To review new drugs and devices relevant to otolaryngology approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2022. DATA SOURCES: Publicly available FDA data on drugs and devices approved in 2022. REVIEW METHODS: A preliminary screen was conducted to identify drugs and devices relevant to otolaryngology. A secondary screen by members of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgerys (AAO-HNS) Medical Devices and Drugs Committee differentiated between minor updates and new approvals. The final list of drugs and devices was sent to members of each subspecialty for review and analysis. CONCLUSION: A total of 1251 devices and 37 drugs were identified on preliminary screening. Of these, 329 devices and 5 drugs were sent to subspecialists for further review, from which 37 devices and 2 novel drugs were selected for further analysis. The newly approved devices spanned all subspecialties within otolaryngology. Many of the newly approved devices aimed to enhance patient experience, including over-the-counter hearing aids, sleep monitoring devices, and refined CPAP devices. Other advances aimed to improve surgical access, convenience, or comfort in the operating room and clinic. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Many new devices and drugs are approved each year to improve patient care and care delivery. By staying up to date with these advances, otolaryngologists can leverage new innovations to improve the safety and quality of care. Given the recent approval of these devices, further studies are needed to assess long-term impact within the field of otolaryngology.

Abstract

Safely expanding indications for cellular therapies has been challenging given a lack of highly cancer-specific surface markers. Here we explore the hypothesis that tumor cells express cancer-specific surface protein conformations that are invisible to standard target discovery pipelines evaluating gene or protein expression, and these conformations can be identified and immunotherapeutically targeted. We term this strategy integrating cross-linking mass spectrometry with glycoprotein surface capture 'structural surfaceomics'. As a proof of principle, we apply this technology to acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a hematologic malignancy with dismal outcomes and no known optimal immunotherapy target. We identify the activated conformation of integrin β2 as a structurally defined, widely expressed AML-specific target. We develop and characterize recombinant antibodies to this protein conformation and show that chimeric antigen receptor T cells eliminate AML cells and patient-derived xenografts without notable toxicity toward normal hematopoietic cells. Our findings validate an AML conformation-specific target antigen and demonstrate a tool kit for applying these strategies more broadly.

Abstract

Metal halide perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have emerged as promising materials due to their exceptional photoluminescence (PL) properties. A wide range of applications could benefit from adjustable luminescence properties, while preserving the physical and chemical properties of the PQDs. Therefore, post-synthesis engineering has gained attention recently, involving the use of ion-exchange or external stimuli, such as extreme pressure, magnetic and electric fields. Nevertheless, these methods typically suffer from spectrum broadening, intensity quenching or yield multiple bands. Alternatively, photonic antennas can modify the radiative decay channel of perovskites via the Purcell effect, with the largest wavelength shift being 8 nm to date, at an expense of 5-fold intensity loss. Here, we present an optical nanoantenna array with polarization-controlled quasi-bound-states-in-the-continuum (q-BIC) resonances, which can engineer and shift the photoluminescence wavelength over a ~39 nm range and confers a 21-fold emission enhancement of FAPbI3 perovskite QDs. The spectrum is engineered in a non-invasive manner via lithographically defined antennas and the pump laser polarization at ambient conditions. Abstract

We suggest a nanoelectromechanical setup and corresponding time protocol of its manipulation by which we transduce quantum information from charge qubit to nanomechanical cat state. The setup is based on the AC Josephson effect between bulk superconductors and mechanically vibrating mesoscopic superconducting island in the regime of the Cooper pair box. Starting with a pure state with quantum information initially encoded into superposition of the Cooper pair box states, applying a specially tailored time protocol upon bias voltage and gate electrodes, we obtain a new pure state with information finally encoded into superposition of nanomechanical coherent states constituting the cat state. This performance is achieved using quantum entanglement between electrical and mechanical states. Nanomechanical cat states serve as a storage of quantum information, motivated by significantly longer decoherence time with respect to the charge qubit states, from which the information can be transdued back to the charge qubit applying the reverse time protocol., Comment: 6 pages, 4 pictures

Abstract

The subject of research in this paper is the investor’s risk profile as a characteristic of his behavior in the stock market. The purpose of the study is to assess the investor’s risk profile in the form of a risk ratio in a model with a linear convolution of expected return and variance. A financial consultant can use this information to create a portfolio offinancial instruments that corresponds with an investor’s acceptance of risk. This makes the study relevant because it addresses the problem of minimizing potential risks in the management of an investment portfolio, which is related to the investor’s attitude toward risk. The scientific novelty lies in the development of a mathematical approach to solving the problem of determining the risk profile based on the relationship between the solutions of two problems of choosing an investment portfolio, expressed as conditions on the parameters under which the solutions of these problems exist and coincide. Wherein, mathematical programming methods were used, as well as the Python programming language. As a result, the risk coefficient is expressed in terms of the model parameter with a constraint on profitability; a classification of the risk profile according to the acceptable value of the risk coefficient is proposed; the method is implemented as a set of programs and demonstrated on the example of the Russian stock market. The conclusion is made about the possibilities of trust managers using this approach when making decisions on choosing the best portfolio.

Abstract

A new diagnosis of type 1 diabetes (T1D) may be accompanied by numerous lifelong financial, emotional, and physical challenges, thus advancements in therapies that can delay the onset of clinical disease are crucial. T1D is an autoimmune condition involving destruction of pancreatic beta cells leading to insulin deficiency, hyperglycemia, and long-term insulin dependence. The pathogenesis of T1D is classified into stages, with the first signal being the detection of autoantibodies without any glycemic changes. In the second stage, dysglycemia develops without symptoms, and in stage 3, symptoms of hyperglycemia become apparent, and at this time a clinical diagnosis of T1D is made. As a greater understanding of these stages of T1D have evolved, research efforts have been devoted to delaying the onset of clinical disease. To date, only one medication, teplizumab, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of stage 2 T1D. This narrative review present published trials and ongoing research on disease modifying therapies (DMT) in T1D, the mechanisms of action for each therapy, and the stages of T1D that these interventions are being studied.

Abstract

We introduce a notion of a root groupoid as a replacement of the notion of Weyl group for (Kac-Moody) Lie superalgebras. The objects of the root groupoid classify certain root data, the arrows are defined by generators and relations. As an abstract groupoid the root groupoid has many connected components and we show that to some of them one can associate an interesting family of Lie superalgebras which we call root superalgebras. We classify root superalgebras satisfying some additional assumptions. To each root groupoid component we associate a graph (called skeleton) generalizing the Cayley graph of the Weyl group. We establish the Coxeter property of the skeleton generalizing in this way the fact that the Weyl group of a Kac-Moody Lie algebra is Coxeter., Comment: 4th version: accepted to Annals in Representation Theory. We construct a new class of finite dimensional indecomposable representations of simple superalgebras which may explain, in a natural way, the existence of the heavier elementary particles. In type I Lie superalgebras sl(m/n) and osp(2/2n), one of the Dynkin weights labeling the finite dimensional irreducible representations is continuous. Taking the derivative, we show how to construct indecomposable representations recursively embedding N copies of the original irreducible representation, coupled by generalized Cabibbo angles, as observed among the three generations of leptons and quarks of the standard model. Abstract

We study the Duflo-Serganova functor $\operatorname{DS}_x$ for the queer Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{q}_n$ and for all odd $x$ with $[x,x]$ semisimple. For the case when the rank of $x$ is $1$ we give a formula for multiplicities in terms of the arc diagram attached to $\lambda$. Abstract

In this paper we study extensions between finite-dimensional simple modules over classical Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n), \mathfrak{osp}(M|2n)$ and $\mathfrak{q}_m$. We consider a simplified version of the extension graph which is produced from the $Ext^1$-graph by identifying representations obtained by parity change and removal of the loops. We give a necessary condition for a pair of vertices to be connected and show that this condition is sufficient in most of the cases. This condition implies that the image of a finite-dimensional simple module under the Duflo-Serganova functor has indecomposable isotypical components. This yields semisimplicity of Duflo-Serganova functor for $\mathcal{F}in(\mathfrak{gl}(m|n))$ and for $\mathcal{F}in(\mathfrak{osp}(M|2n))$., Comment: This paper has a considerable overlap (the cases of gl and osp) with arXiv:2010.12817. Abstract

Abstract Background In 2017, we published an article addressing drug shortages (DS) in Israel, exploring regulatory perspectives, challenges, and potential solutions. Since then, DS remain a significant concern for patients, healthcare providers, and policymakers globally. In this updated article, we revisit the topic, providing new insights, data, and analysis on the current DS landscape in Israel, efforts to mitigate them, and propose strategies to combat this escalating issue. Methods We conducted a comprehensive search of the Israeli Ministry of Health (MOH) DS database, spanning from 2014 to the present. We extracted DS numbers and their reasons. Further searches on the Israeli MOH website, pharmaceutical division archives, and the internet yielded official MOH publications and correspondence regarding regulatory responses to DS from 2017 onwards. Additionally, two specific cases of DS were examined to analyze their handling. Recent activities and publications from the Israeli MOH aimed at reducing DS were also reviewed. Results Between 2014 and 2022, DS surged 2.66-fold. Total DS were 3228; 672 due to commercial reasons, and 2556 to operational reasons (20.5% and 79.5% respectively). The average duration of intermittent DS increased 1.56-fold, from 85 to 133 days. Manufacturers informed the MOH 22 days prior to actual shortage on average. Analyzing 2022's DS (640) by ATC groups, prominent categories included nervous system drugs (18%), drugs acting on the alimentary tract and metabolism (14%), and dermatologicals (11%). Operational DS in 2022 (n = 564) were primarily due to stock delivery delays (38%), stock over-utilization (12%), and raw material shortages (9%). Sixteen official MOH publications on DS were identified from 2017 onwards. Moreover, two high-impact DS case studies were examined. Conclusion Despite routine monitoring by the Israeli MOH and updating the DS policy throughout this period, DS persist, intensifying annually and posing serious health risks. This trend mirrors international patterns, affecting countries globally. In Israel's uniquely structured healthcare system, with its swift stakeholder cooperation and implementation capabilities, more effective DS management is conceivable. We propose ten universally applicable rules to address DS challenges.
