Both Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) (1990) and Harlem Duet (1997) are Canadian feminist appropriations of William Shakespeare. Both deal, at least partly, with Othello, and both can be considered subversive re-visions of Shakespeare’s play which aim to articulate oppositional intervention in the canon. These similarities notwithstanding, the plays have not often been studied concurrently. Also, while several critics have explored them, mostly separately, in terms of their adaptation/appropriation of Shakespeare, seeking to spell out the transformations they have brought to the “original” text, little has been said about how the iconic figure of Shakespeare still holds sway in these new dramas, albeit in different ways and to varying degrees. Likewise, their dramatization of the character of Othello remains rather understudied. This essay explores the “new” Othellos of the two plays, contending that their positioning in the two texts evinces some similarities while their characterization differs widely, given the plays’ generic difference, but mostly the two playwrights’ rather divergent feminist perspectives which, in turn, substantially shape the plays’ respective appropriation techniques.

In 2019, the #BoysDanceToo movement reacted in anger to controversial, misogynistic remarks made on the television program, Good Morning America. These reactions highlighted the challenges faced by men and boys in dance. Yet, previous studies have documented significant advantages for men in dance. In an analysis of the discourse used in online posts related to the #BoysDanceToo movement, I find that these broader structural gender inequalities are generally not examined. Responses also do not interrogate the antifemininity that fuels the stigma against boys and men who dance. Analysis suggests that this is due to an overreliance on the language of sex roles—which can mask the oppression of women (as a group) by men (as a group)—and the neglect of a relational understanding of gender. As a result, women are largely erased from a conversation about gender oppression.

BACKGROUND: As the landscape of medical education evolves with emerging technologies and the COVID-19 pandemic, e-learning platforms continue to gain popularity. Orthopaedic podcasts, a burgeoning e-learning platform, continue to gain traction; however, there is a paucity of information regarding their coverage of topics and their distribution over time. Therefore, our analysis sought to (1) characterize podcast content related to orthopaedic surgery, and (2) evaluate the changes in the prevalence of orthopaedic podcasts over the past 15 years. METHODS: Three common podcasting platforms (Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify) were queried using the key terms "orthopaedic," "orthopedic," and "ortho" in order to identify a list of podcasts that are related to orthopaedic surgery. For each unique orthopaedic podcast, the title, the show description, the number of episodes, the date of the first episode, the date of the most recent episode, and episode frequency were collected. Podcasts were then classified based on a predetermined list of podcast domains. The number of existing active (released within the last 3 months) orthopaedic podcasts was then trended on a monthly basis from 2011 to 2020. RESULTS: Ninety-four unique podcasts met inclusion criteria, 62 of which remained active as of October 25, 2020. The most common podcast domains were "general" (38 [40.4%]) and "clinical knowledge" (20 [21.3%]). Among the assessed podcasts, 90 (95.7%) utilized an exclusively audio format. The majority of podcasts were based in the United States (89.4%), included introductory music (72.3%), and included interviews (63.8%). Most podcast hosts were practicing orthopaedic surgeons (52.1%). Between January 2016 and October 2020, the number of active orthopaedic surgery podcasts grew more than twelvefold (1,240%) at an average rate of roughly 1 new podcast each month (average, 1.0 podcast; standard deviation, 1.8). DISCUSSION: The past decade has seen sizable growth in the number of readily available podcasts related to orthopaedic surgery. Additional research is required to independently assess the quality of these resources and their implications for remote trainee education.

This paper explores how the individuals (women) constitute their own subjectivity through neo-liberal discourses in Pakistan. This paper examines the media discourses on perfection in Pakistan based on the claim that such discourses may function to spread neoliberal thinking in society. Foucault notion of neo-liberal governmentality provides a theoretical basis for this work. This is an empirical study aimed at investigating discourse featuring in the Pakistani Morning show (Good Morning Show with Nida Yasir). This paper discusses the morning show in a way to reveal how technologies of neoliberal globalization produce and reproduce discourses in subjectivity.

- Subjects
Value (ethics) ,Good-morning ,Forgiveness ,Feeling ,Aesthetics ,media_common.quotation_subject ,Confessional ,Art ,Graffiti ,Confession ,Romance ,media_common - Abstract
Romantic graffiti come in two types: confessional and directive. Confessional graffiti are spontaneous, these are an outburst of feelings. A confession of love is usually accompanied by a name, but if the inscription is made right below the addressee’s window, the name is lacking. It is often substituted by a pet name which is more specific for the speaker than a name. A confession is expressive, it praises the addressee and expresses adoration of them. Congratulations are usually related to a birthday or to a birth of a child. Directive graffiti are well-thought-out; they sometimes feature quotes from popular texts. These graffiti include wishes of good morning, good cheer and health; pleas to forget one not and to come back, to date and to marry; pleas for forgiveness. They are written on asphalt, underfoot, on the house, scrapyard and waste-lot walls, nevertheless, both the addressees and addressants remain oblivious to the stylistic cacophony, they place more value on the publicity of the message. The graffiti are supposed to make the relationship between the addressee and the addressant known, which increases their social status. They do not aim for esoteric language: the inscription must be clear to everyone. Genuine intimate relationships are formed in public. Romantic graffiti resemble ditties in this respect.

Documentary portraits of women in Irena Kamieńska’s filmsThe author presents one of the main topics in Irena Kamieńska’s documentary oeuvre — the problems of women. In the article she discusses two kinds of female portraits created by the director — strong and full of enthusiasm Good Morning, Children, Next Point on the Agenda, and helpless, without any hope Workers; Day After Day. Of crucial importance is the sociological-historical context, referred to by the author, which makes it possible to take a broader view on the conditions in which the protagonists of Kamieńska’s documentaries lived. In addition, the author discusses the director’s attitude to her protagonists.

In this paper, I explore male youth sport coaches’ use of humour in relation to the reconstruction of masculinities, contributing to an emergent body of literature on the role of humour in coaching. Three creative non-fiction stories developed from my own coaching experiences in a competitive youth football (soccer) academy are used to examine: (1) coaches’ reconstruction of hegemonic/esteemed masculinities; (2) coaches’ use of humour to encourage re-alignment with hegemonic masculinities, and; (3) coaches’ use of (counter-)humour to disrupt hegemonic representations of masculinities. The stories offer sport coaches and educators with a resource to reflect on masculinities, gender relations, and the everyday use of humour within their own contexts.

The news of the coronavirus or Covid-19 has become a hot topic of discussion in the last few months. This article investigates the student's reception of the Corona Virus Alert segment broadcasted through the CNN Indonesia news program, "Good Morning." Using Stuart Hall's reception studies model, we conducted in-depth interviews with five students who watched Covid-19 news intensively on "Good Morning," CNN Indonesia. We found that students decode differently the meaning of messages conveyed by the information. Some coded the story in a hegemonic or dominant position --it means they agree with what and how the media frame the events and phenomena. On the other hand, some interpreted the meaning conveyed through the news with a different perspective, indicating they are in the oppositional position. They criticized the media for providing inaccurate, even factual, information. This study is vital in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic information storm conveyed by both the media and the public. It becomes a reference for how the audience can interpret news differently and can share their interpretations with the community according to what they receive. “Good morning! Would it be possible to submit it by 11 am?” This email illustrates an essential fact of life for anyone seeking to understand the community college: Most community college students live very complex lives. Most students who attend community colleges are attempting to balance work schedules, family responsibilities, personal lives, along with academic responsibilities for college, so being able to complete work for classes during the semester can often be challenging. For this reason, flexibility is one of the greatest gifts community college faculty and staff—and legislators and state and federal funding agencies—can offer students.

The present study is an analysis of the flouting maxim in Good Morning America (GMA) talk show in which Jackie Chan was invited as the guest star. The goals of this research are to find out the performed flouted maxim(s) by the hosts and the guest and to reveal the reason(s) behind the occurrence of the maxim(s). In this study, the researchers employed the qualitative method, and data were collected from a video. The transcript text of the utterances between the hosts and Jackie Chan as a guest consisting of flouting maxim was the instrument of this research. Then, to find and analyze the flouting maxim showed in the video, the researchers used Grice's (1975) theory Cooperative Principles consisting of four maxim types: quality, quantity, relation, and manner. The result showed that all four types of maxim flouting were committed by both Jackie Chan and the two hosts of the GMA talk show. The highest flouting maxims found were flouting the maxim of quantity and manner. Further, the study also revealed the rationales behind maxims flouting, which were beneficial to build fun communication and to elaborate more explanations.

We make decisions all the time. Our lives are shaped by the decisions we make. Price decisions have different dimensions for companies and consumers. For companies, price is the moment of truth in that price decisions ultimately drive results. For consumers, prices are paid reflective of solving a problem. One would genuinely believe that the lower the price, the better off the consumer, all else being equal. But is it really the case? My own good morning coffee story says otherwise. I punished myself for paying the lower price. A good price decision made by the customer can be detrimental to her/his own experience, while companies’ price decisions need to evolve over time to keep abreast of market reality.

Iba a quedar desfigurada.

This article memorializes Bernardo J. Carducci (1952-2018). Bernie's interests in shyness blossomed when he founded and directed the Shyness Research Institute at IUS. His mission became helping shy people to develop more interaction options and build their confidence in order to become full participants in the world. Bernie was internationally recognized as an authority, resulting in wide-ranging interviews with, among others, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, BBC, Good Morning America, U.S. News and World Report, and, appropriately, Psychology Today. His small treasured book, The Pocket Guide to Making Successful Small Talk (1999) continues to receive accolades from colleagues for its insight and helpful guidance. Bernie was also a productive contributor in the scholarship of teaching and learning, focusing on career preparation strategies for psychology majors who enter the workforce upon graduation. He regularly spoke in regional and national venues about ways to improve learning experiences that would help psychology students better articulate what they could do to impress potential employers. The free messaging services offered by WhatsApp, spurred the onset of spam messages. These spam messages are plaguing the storage space and considered prosaic. Jio’s breakneck growth owing to the free 4-G services offered influenced the usage of WhatsApp in India. In this research paper, we aim to gauge the psychology behind sharing spam messages and analyze the indifference of people towards such messages. Dataset was collected for 18 parameters over varied age groups. Most of the data gathered are raw and anonymous which has further made the process of examining and analyzing the human behavior more vivid and deep. Data was garnered over various messaging apps like WhatsApp and social media platforms like Facebook.

In this brief introduction, the aims of the book are set out. It also includes some structural information about how to navigate the book. Although it avoids any historical positioning of Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest, it discusses the rise of “Eurovision Studies” scholarship in Australia, and the particular conditions that have given rise to the set of interdisciplinary scholarship published in the volume. It contextualises each chapter’s place within the wider volume. Finally, the chapter sets out the central conceit of the book: that a single-nation perspective on a multinational event can generate unique insight.

Terms of address are universally seen as a tool used to build social relations between speakers and hearers. Terms of address ‘help establish or maintain social bonds, strengthen solidarity and control social distance’ (Gu, 1990: 249), although ways of addressing vary from culture to culture. Therefore, the proper choice of address terms is a prerequisite for a successful interaction. Inappropriate use of address terms may lead to misunderstandings and hinder communication.

Frank Tomas “Tom” Turpin is a professor of entomology at Purdue University—where he has been a faculty member for 45 years—and a Cooperative Extension Service entomologist. A popular speaker, he gives presentations on a variety of entomological and agricultural subjects to audiences of all ages. In 1990, Turpin created the Bug Bowl at Purdue University, which modestly began as a glorified cockroach race. The annual two-day festival of insects now attracts 30,000 people, as well as worldwide media attention, and features audience participation in cockroach tractor-pulls (big roaches, little tractors), cricket-spitting contests for distance, and edible mealworm stirfry with sauteed garlic, ginger, onions, and hot bean paste. Turpin has been featured in People, Time , and National Geographic World magazines, quoted by The New York Times and The New Yorker , and appeared on Good Morning America, Whad’Ya Know? with Michael Feldman, and Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion . Since 1988, Turpin has channeled his fascination and expertise on all those creatures that jump, crawl, fly, and bite into a bi-weekly column called On Six Legs , which in 2012 morphed into a podcast. Tom Turpin, Professor of Entomology, Purdue University, 1996. Turpin earned a B.S. (Biology & Math, 1965) from Washburn University and a Ph.D. (Entomology, 1971) from Iowa State University. During 1967-1969, he was a math and science teacher and a coach at BGM High School, Brooklyn, Iowa. Always the dedicated teacher, Turpin has received numerous teaching honors including Purdue's Charles B. Murphy Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching (1992), Indiana Professor of the Year, Carnegie Foundation for the Advance of Teaching (1992), Outstanding Teacher Award, Purdue University School of Agriculture (1995), …

This article analyzes ancestry, war and politics in the literary works by Ondjaki, contemporary Angolan writer from the point of view of children characters of five novels: Os da minha rua, AvoDezanove e o segredo do sovietico (Grandma Nineteen and the Soviet’s secret), A bicicleta que tinha bigodes, Uma escuridao bonita and Bom dia camaradas (Good morning comrades). Ancestry in Ondjaki is portrayed according to the tradition in several African societies: ancestors remain as a part of the family and take part in its daily life, even after dying. The civil war is unveiled in a subtle and light way, including humorous features. Politics permeates the characters’ daily lives, with the presence of government forces and of foreigners (mostly Cubans and Russians) working as military, physicians and teachers in Angola. We can conclude that Ondjaki addresses these contents with great sensitivity and in a poetic way despite the complexity of such topics.

Dear Readers, I recently browsed through numerous web pages for kids on cbc.ca and much to my delight I came across an article titled “5 Books You Probably Didn’t Know Were Written by Kids.” I discovered that Alec Greven published a successful book called How to Talk to Girls when he was only nine years old. The book was published back in 2008, so Graven would be close to twenty today, but the lessons on the back cover remain relevant for today: “Comb your hair and don’t wear sweats / Control your hyperness (cut down on the sugar if you have to) / Don’t act desperate.” Graven was interviewed on several popular television shows soon after the book was published, including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Today show, and Good Morning America, among others, and his publication became a media sensation. Graven’s accomplishment is certainly very impressive, but I was even more astounded to read about a four-year-old named Dorothy Straight, who, according to CBC, “holds the world record for being the youngest published author.” Her book titled Who Made the World? was published in 1964 and it included her own illustrations to depict her ideas about the possibility of Creation. These extraordinary stories of kids who write and publish books make inspiring reading, which is why I mention them here in my editorial, with the hope that you will encourage the children in your life to write, not necessarily for publication, but to help them read and understand stories written by other writers. There are lots of resources available to encourage children to write, including apps, websites, writers’ groups, blogs, magazines, books, and courses, so please consider doing an online search for writing materials or visit your local library to ask for help finding free writing resources for kids. Happy reading! Robert Desmarais, Managing Editor

Conveying greetings to non-Muslims and replying greetings uttered by them are the issues that affect the sensitivity of Muslims in Malaysia. Since Malaysia is a plural-society nation, there are non-Muslims who are always intermingled with the Muslims and are impressed with some of Muslim cultures. And when this happens, it raises many questions such as is it allowed for Muslims to say “Assalamualaikum” to non-Muslims? Is it obligatory to return greetings given by non-Muslims? How to greet people in a ceremony consisting of Muslims and non-Muslims? Is it permissible to say "Good Morning" or "Good Evening" to non-Muslims? Therefore, this paper will explore the views of Muslim scholars in each of these issues so that readers can clearly understand the Islamic view on this issue. Analytical and critical methods will be utilized when elaborating the view of scholars in this issue. The conclusion of this study is that Muslims are not allowed to greet non-Muslims with the word “Assalamua’laikum” . However, if non-Muslims start to greet with the word “Assalamua’laikum” then Muslims can reply it with the word “Wa'alaikumussalam”. While other greeting of speech other than the remarks of “Assalamu'alaikum” is permissible .

I gave an introduction to our team on rounds, “Liliana* is a 9-year-old female who presented with fevers and status epilepticus due to influenza encephalitis, now working on oral intolerance.” I paused. “Actually, before we go in, I believe Liliana would feel overwhelmed with all of us in the room. Would it be possible for only the essential personnel to come in?” “Of course,” responded Dr Agrawal, the attending pediatrician, “How is she doing?” “She is still not eating or interacting much. But, I finally got her in contact with her mom in Honduras last night. It almost broke my heart.” Dr Agrawal, the upper level resident, and I then put on the personal protective equipment of gowns, face masks, and gloves before proceeding into the room. Liliana was a thin, withdrawn girl lying in bed with a nasogastric tube in place and her “sitter” from the shelter at the bedside. The upper level resident stated in Spanish, “Liliana, good morning. How are you feeling?” No answer. She looked at us with a blank stare. “Are you hungry?” Silence. “Does anything hurt?” She turned her back to us in bed. The upper level resident noticed the doll … Address correspondence to Neeraj Agrawal, MD, Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hospital Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital, 1102 Bates Ave, FC 1860, Houston, TX 77030. Social networking sites are important platforms for visual self-presentation online. This article investigates how content producers present their gender identities on the social networking site, Instagram. We draw upon and develop Goffman’s analytic framework to understand the self-presentation techniques and styles users employ online. Conducting a visual content analysis of clean eating–related top posts, we examine how users deploy clean eating hashtags and how the architecture of Instagram constrains and enables certain identities around shared lifestyles and commercial interests. Our findings reveal the symbolic significance of hashtags for group membership and the degree to which gender identities on Instagram are configured around platform interfaces.

Good Morning, Good Afternoon or Good Evening; whatever time zone your mind might be in. But no good night, since it is not yet time to sleep. My name is Ravi Kashyap. Till recently, before moving to academia, I used to work in the financial industry and when someone would ask me what I did for a living; I would say I work with models and then if they asked what sort of models I say I work with exotic models. Thankfully I am still working with the same models; even more thankfully, the models I work with are very simple compared to the models that come to the minds of most people when they hear the word model. Perhaps my models are not even the models most people want to work with. The story Alice in Wonderland has three main elements: The First is known as Anthropomorphism (quite a mouthful, right?) all it means is that there are creatures and objects that can talk and have human emotions; secondly some things make sense; some don’t, which is known as literary non-sense. Lastly of course, there is everything else. Similarly, in today’s business world we have Uncertainty, which many people know more about than me; and there are Unintended Consequences, which not many of us know much about. So I will focus on the easier part, which is also my strength and we will talk mostly about Everything Else today. A big part of our lives is uncertainty and our struggle to overcome it. Sergey Bubka is our Icon of Uncertainty: As a refresher, he broke the pole vault world record 35 times. We can think of introducing any innovation into society or any regulatory change as raising the bar. Each time the bar is raised, the spirit of Sergey Bubka, in all of us, will find a way over it. When he was breaking records, most of you were professors in college; not just literally but perhaps in your thoughts and ambitions. I was just a small kid; I still am… So if anything I say bothers you, just ignore it. In Asia, we always overlook the mistakes of the youngest member in the family. I am that person now. I will also ask a lot of questions; but don’t worry; you don’t have to answer it now, because we don’t have enough time. Our attempts at business success start with the study of many subjects: Economics, Marketing, Management, etc. We human beings are the creators of these fields; but they need to operate in a world, which might or not have been created by us. So how can we be sure which of these artificial boundaries are important? An alternate categorization would identify any field by the set of questions it seeks to answers. The answers to the questions posed by any domain can come from the combination of many other disciplines or from anywhere. This search for answers is bounded only by our imagination. So Business-Land can have anything and everything in it, which also makes it a wonderland.

EnglishIn this article I analyse the deconstruction of the public/private dichotomy in the city of Paris in Jean Rhys’s Good Morning Midnight (1939). Through the exploration of Sasha’s aimless wandering through Paris in her failed quest for romantic love, this paper aims to explore Rhys’s Paris as a city which is hostile to women who fail to perform conventional standards of femininity. These standards are in turn encouraged and set by the promise of happiness ; thus, the mimicry of femininity — whether intentional or not — exposes ongoing power dynamics in gender roles, the construction of the bodies of others through political ideals of happiness and love, and the subversive potential in Rhys’s novel, even if the protagonist is crushed at the end by the private side of the emerging totalitarian regime s on the eve of the Second World War

Good morning, and thank you all for being here today. It’s a true honor to address this esteemed group and to follow in the footsteps of so many outstanding leaders in academic medicine who have delivered this address over the past 130 years. Before I begin, I wanted to note how privileged I have felt over the years to work with so many outstanding people in our field. I sometimes worry we lose sight of the talent and commitment of those around us. There are few, if any, other fields that we would be surrounded by those whose lives are committed to improving the lives of the world around us and are willing to work countless hours to achieve this goal. In planning today’s talk, I took some time to listen to past AAP presidential speeches and found them informative and refreshingly varied. The talks that I found most engrossing were those that took a somewhat narrow theme — the practice of humanistic medicine or communicating about science to the public — and really delved into the nuances of the issue with telling data points and smart insights. Well, today I am going to do the opposite of that. No, I don’t mean that the talk will be insight-free, although I can’t make any promises! Instead of carving out a focused, manageable theme, I’ve decided to tackle the “big picture.” The stated purpose of the AAP is “the advancement of scientific and practical medicine” (1). So I thought, why not assess “the advancement of scientific and practical medicine” — both in terms of how far we’ve come and where we may be going in the future. It seemed a tad ambitious to start at the very beginning of modern medicine, so instead, I’ll go back to the early days of my own career. I’ll start by touching on a few of the major triumphs I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing over the past 40 years of biomedical science — areas where discovery has revolutionized clinical practice. Then, I’ll spotlight some of the current advances being driven by academic medical centers around the country in our collective quest to eradicate disease and help people around the globe lead longer, healthier lives. Finally, I’ll look ahead to the next 10–20 years. Today’s scientists are making staggering progress in many disease areas, but I’m going to focus on just a handful of conditions that are being dramatically changed through new technologies, new discoveries, and emerging treatment options — areas where I truly believe we will be able to offer new hope for patients over the next decade or two. For this portion of the talk, I asked all of my department chairs at Johns Hopkins Medicine to weigh in, so the predictions reflect their views as well as my own. Finally, when it comes to the pursuit of cures, we are in the midst of an era of unprecedented opportunities in science, but we’re also butting up against unprecedented challenges in the environment for doing science. I’ll spend a little time addressing these barriers to innovation and what we can do to overcome them.
