- Abstract
In Cuenca (Ecuador), trade practices -even formal- take place amidst diverse difficulties, very evident in the local markets, as a social reality very distant from the imaginary of neatness, beauty and splendor that the city has built over time. In this context, the work Mercados proposes to represent, from Ecuadorian experiences investigated in situ, the neglect of the producer present in local trade practices in order to raise public awareness. Thus, from various testimonies, in which stands out that of a young shopkeeper, a single mother, a multisensory aesthetic experience is generated, the result of the interrelation between the visual representation (in a slightly expressionist form) of the protagonist, with a baby in her arms, attending to a customer; the reproduction of the constant and deafening environmental noise of the market; and the installation complement of fruits with textual messages that put the spectator for an instant in the place of the protagonist, in search of empathy and solidarity, so necessary today for the transformation and improvement of our peoples.
