First-trimester pregnancy losses are commonly attributed to chromosomal abnormalities. The causes of pregnancy loss following transfer of a euploid embryo are not fully elucidated. The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical and embryological parameters for pregnancy failure following the transfer of a single euploid embryo. Pregnancy outcomes of single euploid embryo transfers from a single centre between January 2017 and March 2020 were retrospectively evaluated. Several clinical and embryological parameters were evaluated in consideration to pregnancy outcomes; total pregnancy loss and live birth (LB). Endometrial preparation type, number of previous frozen embryo transfer cycles, history of recurrent pregnancy loss, higher body mass index, presence of endometriosis and/ or adenomyosis and embryo quality were found to be significantly different between two groups. Morphokinetic parameter analysis of 523 euploid embryos using time-lapse imaging did not show any statistical differences between the two groups; however, a significantly higher rate of uneven blastomeres in the cleavage stage was observed in the total pregnancy loss group. Evaluation of clinical and embryological data can reveal possible factors associated with pregnancy loss that can facilitate improved patient consultation. Feasible interventions can potentially increase the chance of achieving an LB.

Background: Cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies about iron accumulation in children with thalassemia major are quite limited. Aim: This study aimed to detect neurological findings with cranial MRIs in the pediatric patients with thalassemia major who did not develop any neurological complications. Materials and Methods: Pediatric patients with thalassemia major who followed in the Pediatric Hematology Unit between 1 July 2017 and 1 January 2019 were included in the study. The patients underwent cranial MRI scans. Results: A total of 30 patients were included. The median age was 15 (range from 4–18) years old. We found that 7 patients had a splenectomy and 19 of the remaining 23 patients had splenomegaly. In addition, 13 of the patients had hepatomegaly, 10 had skeletal deformities, and 17 had growth retardation. The mean ferritin level was 3772.3 ± 2524.8. We detected various pathologies on cranial MRI images of 10 (33.3%) patients. In 3 of these patients, millimeter-sized ischemia-compatible lesions were found in the cerebral white matter, which did not fit any arterial area, and 5 patients had hyperintense lesions in the basal ganglia. Conclusion: Our study is valuable since 1/3 of our pediatric patients with thalassemia major were detected with intracranial pathology.

Objective: To screen cognitive functions using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test and to determine the most common central nervous system complications in adults with sickle cell anemia (SCA). Materials and Methods: One hundred adult patients with SCA and 82 healthy controls participated in this study. Controls were matched for age, sex, and education level. We reviewed the demographic information and laboratory values of all patients. The patients were questioned about common CNS complications including headache, ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, epilepsy, and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. The MoCA test was used to assess neurocognitive function in all participants. Results: Of the 100 patients with SCA, 38 patients had chronic or recurrent headaches, 10 had a history of depression, and four patients had a history of ischemic stroke. None of the patients had a history of epilepsy, hemorrhagic stroke or cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. Objective. The study aimed to compare patients with HELLP syndrome who require intensive care and who do not require intensive care and evaluate the factors affecting the length of stay in the intensive care unit. Methods. Patients were divided into two groups as follows: requiring intensive care (group 1) and not requiring intensive care (group 2). The data of both groups were compared in terms of demographic characteristics, transfusion amounts, length of stay in the intensive care unit, maternal complications, and mortality. Results. 14032 births in a tertiary center between 2011 and 2018 were evaluated in this study. During the study period, 342 patients were diagnosed with HELLP, and 32 (9.4%) of these were followed up in the intensive care unit. The length of stay in the intensive care unit was determined as 8.1 (7.2) days on average. Fresh frozen plasma, erythrocyte suspension, apheresis, and random thrombocyte transfusion were observed to be significantly more in group 1 patients. In the regression analysis, the most effective factor was found to be erythrocyte suspension and the length of stay in the intensive care unit was significantly longer in patients who had erythrocyte suspension transfusion. The receiver operating characteristic curve showed that the area under the curve value for erythrocyte transfusion was 70.6%. When the cutoff value of erythrocyte suspension was 450 (95% CI: 365–681) ml, the sensitivity was 43.8% and the specificity was 91.6%. Conclusion. We think that physicians should be careful that maternal morbidity and mortality may increase as the need for erythrocyte suspension transfusion increases in patients with HELLP syndrome. Minimum transfusion to hemodynamically stable patients can be more suitable in terms of morbidity and mortality in managing patients with HELLP syndrome requiring erythrocyte suspension transfusion. Precautions and measures should be taken in this regard.

Objective: This study evaluates the impact of CLLU1 expression and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis of a group of Turkish chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 156 CLL patients were analyzed by FISH method; 47 of them were also evaluated for CLLU1 expression. Results were correlated with clinical parameters. Results: FISH aberrations were found in 62% of patients. These aberrations were del13q14 (67%), trisomy 12 (27%), del11q22 (19%), del17p (8%), and 14q32 rearrangements (20%). Overall del11q22 and del17p were associated with the highest mortality rates, shortest overall survival (OS), and highest need for medication. Homozygous del13q14, 14q32 rearrangements, and higher CLLU1 expression correlated with shorter OS. Conclusion: Cytogenetics/FISH analysis is still indicated for routine evaluation of CLL. Special consideration is needed for the poor prognostic implications of del11q22, del17p, 14q32 rearrangements, and homozygous del13q14. The impact of CLLU1 expression is not yet clear and it requires more data before becoming routine in genetic testing in CLL patients.

Children who are economically, educationally, linguistically or socially disadvantaged called “disadvantaged children”. Those children are at risk and they must be supported because of their negative life conditions. Compensation studies must be implemented to thosechildren. The “Bir Umut Ol Benim İçin” (Be My Hope) project is such a compensation study which isheld by Uludag University Faculty of Education and Bursa Police Department Children Branch Office. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of this project on disadvantaged children’s bullying behaviours. In line with this objective Colorado School Climate Survey, which was developed by Garrity et al., (2000) was used. The questionnaire was designed to measure several aspects of bullying. The analyses of the study showed that the project “Bir Umut Ol Benim İçin” has not caused a positive effect onthe bully behaviours. While it was hoped that this project would cause a decrease in bully behaviours of disadvantaged children because it is a compensation study, it is seen that such as studies/projects must be supported with bully proofing and with conflict resolution programs.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a promising curative therapy for many combined primary immunodeficiencies and phagocytic disorders. We retrospectively reviewed pediatric cases of patients diagnosed with primary immunodeficiencies and scheduled for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. We identified 22 patients (median age, 6 months; age range, 1 month to 10 years) with various diagnoses who received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The patient diagnoses included severe combined immunodeficiency (n=11), Chediak-Higashi syndrome (n=2), leukocyte adhesion deficiency (n=2), MHC class 2 deficiency (n=2), chronic granulomatous syndrome (n=2), hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (n=1), Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (n=1), and Omenn syndrome (n=1). Of the 22 patients, 7 received human leukocyte antigen-matched related hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, 12 received haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and 2 received matched unrelated hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The results showed that 5 patients had graft failure. Fourteen patients survived, yielding an overall survival rate of 67%. Screening newborn infants for primary immunodeficiency diseases may result in timely administration of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Purpose: This study analyzes the emotional intelligence levels and conflict management strategies of nurses and the association between them. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted with 277 nurses in a stratified random sample from a university hospital in Turkey. The data were collected from nurses who gave their informed consent to participate using a personal information form, the Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory-II and Bar-On's Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-I). Data were assessed by descriptive statistics, t tests, and Pearson correlation analyses, using SPSS software. Results: The levels of the nurses' strategies were as follows: avoiding (M = 2.98), dominating (M = 2.76), and obliging (M = 2.71) were medium; compromising (M = 1.99) and integration (M = 1.96) were low. The levels of the emotional intelligence of nurses (mean = 2.75) were medium on a 5-point scale. Integration (r = .168), obliging (r = .25), dominating (r = .18), and compromising (r = .33), which are conflict management strategies, were positively correlated with scores of emotional intelligence, and avoiding (r = −.25) was negatively correlated with scores of emotional intelligence (p

Introduction: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital anomaly in newborns. In this study it was aimed to investigate the demographic features of the patients with CHD diagnosed in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to determine the frequency of the anomalies and to elucidate the etiologic risk factors. Materials and Methods: The files of 361 newborns who were diagnosed with CHD and hospitalized at Ondokuz Mayıs University NICU were retrospectively examined from 2006 to 2010. Fourteen patients with normal echocardiography, 3 patients with supraventricular tachycardia, and 44 patients with patent ductus arteriosus and/or patent foramen ovale diagnosed in the first three days were excluded from the study. Results: The frequency of CHD in the NICU was faund to be 7.5%. Out of all the cases 141 of them (47%) were female, and 159 of them (53%) were male. Cyanotic CHD was diagnosed in 32.3%, and non-cyanotic CHD was diagnosed in 67.7% of the cases. The most frequent CHD in newborns was ventricular septal defect (15.3%), and the most frequent cyanotic CHD was transposition of the great arteries (10%). The 46 cases (15.3%) were out of consanguineous marriage and 13 cases (4.3%) had CHD in their family history. Out of 300 patients with CHD, 220 of them (73.3%) were discharged from the hospital, 67 of them (22.3%) died in NICU and 13 of them (4.3%) were sent to another hospital. Conclusions: CHD rate is approximately 5-8 per 1.000 live births; however, the frequency in the neonatal period increases 7-11 times. Therefore, cardiological and echocardiographic evaluation in neonates has great importance. In addition, early diagnosis of CHD in the neonatal period will lead to earlier life-saving interventions; therefore, significant reduction in mortality and morbidity.

The purpose of this study was to research the problem of hemoglobin H (HbH) disease, to reveal the distribution patterns among different health centers, and to emphasize the importance of this disease for Turkey. A total of 273 patients were included from 8 hemoglobinopathy centers. The Antakya Hemoglobinopathy Center reported 232 patients and the remaining 7 centers reported 41 patients. PubMed was also searched for published articles related to Turkish patients with HbH disease, and we found 16 articles involving a total of 198 HbH patients. Most of the patients were reported from Antakya; thus, special attention should be paid to this region. This is a preliminary study to investigate the extent of the problem of HbH disease and it emphasizes the need for hematology associations or the Ministry of Health to record all cases of HbH disease in Turkey.

Elbette Birliği hâlâ güçlü bir süreklilik gelenekleri ile birlikte, ayırt edici şekil ve yapısını birçok kültürlü karakteri belirlemiş iken gerçekte son derece homojen bir ülke görünümündedir. Görünüşte adım adım ortak bir Avrupa kültürüne doğru alınan yol kurumlar sisteminin resmi ve daha az resmi yönleri ile yakından ilişkilidir. Üye (ulusal) devletlerin henüz katılacağı AB sisteminin kurumlarına bir bağlılık duygusu vardır. Kültürel açıdan sonuçta bu kararlılık Avrupa bütünleşme sürecini ayrıntılı incelenmesini gerekli kılmaktadır. Bu genişlemiş Avrupa'daki bir Avrupa siyasi kültürüne karşılık gelen AB sisteminin evrimine entellektüel yönünden bakılmasıdır.

Purpose: Thalassemia and sickle cell anemia patients have frequent transfusions. Hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are tramsmitted infections with blood. The objective of this study is to determine frequency of these infections in our hemoglobinopathy patients. Material and Methods: We investigated 410 hemoglobinopathy patients. Viral serologies were detected with second-generation enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. In 410 patients (116 thalassemia major, 16 thalassemia intermedia, 12 hemoglobin H, 222 sickle cell anemia, 43 sickle-beta thalassemia and 1 Hb SE), there were 258 males and 152 females. Results: The rate of HBV is 1,2%, HCV is 3,2% and HIV is 0%. Our results shows that transfusion transmitted viral infection prevelance is not high compared to the literature. Conclusion: Using sensitive screening tests with periodically and right donor selection are very important for preventing these infections in hemoglobinopathy patients who are under high risk. Amaç: Bu çalışmada ağrılı krizle gelen orak hücreli anemi hastalarımızın hastaneye yatış sıklığını etkileyen faktörleri bulmayı amaçladık. Materyal ve Metod: Yetmiş i homozigot, 14'ü orak-beta talasemi olan 84 orak hücreli anemi hastası stabil durumdayken çalışmamıza katıldı. Bu çalışmada aynı zamanda 2010 ve 1012 yılları arasında hastalarımızın demografik ve klinik verilerini bildirdik. Bulgular ve Sonuç: Hidroksiüre alan hastaların hastaneye daha sık yattıklarını ve hastaneye yatışla diğer değişkenler arasında bir ilişki olmadığı saptanmıştır. Hastaneye yatış açısından diğer değişkenler yönünden fark bulunamadı.

Gelişmemiş ülkelerde, yetersiz aşılama, kötü hijyen ve yaşam koşulları nedeniyle hepatit A yaygındır. Sekonder immun trombositopeni, Hepatit B ve C enfeksiyonlarında sık görülürken, akut hepatit A enfeksiyonu bulgusu olarak nadiren bildirilmiştir. Sekonder immun trombositopenik purpurası olan akut hepatit A enfeksiyonlu 2 olgu burada sunulmuştur.

In undeveloped countries, Hepatitis A is common and endemic because of unimmunization, unhygienic nutrition and poor living conditions. Secondary immune thrombocytopenia is frequently seen in hepatitis B and C infections. It is rarely reported with acute hepatitis A. Purpose: In this study, we aimed to find factors effecting hospitalization frequency of our sickle cell anemia (SCA) patients with painful crisis. Material and Methods: Eighty four SCA patients in steady-state condition participated to the study: Seventy with homozygous, and 14 with sickle cell-beta thalassemia disease. In this study we also reported demographic and clinical data of our patients from February 2010 to October 2012. Results and Conclusion: We found that patients using hydroxyurea and penicillin prophylaxis stayed in hospital more times than the others. No relationship between high hospitalization and other variables have been found. However genetic differences may be present among these patients which warrant further studies.

Double heterozygosity for hemoglobin (Hb) E and S, known as HbSE disease, is a rare, clinically benign condition involving mild hemolysis. Only 25 cases have been reported to date. The current literature generally associates HbSE with a benign clinical course, although vaso-occlusive complications have been reported. Although only single case reports were previously available, we have observed 20 cases of HbSE and wish to report them. We examined the records of patients presenting to our hemoglobinopathy center in 2001-2013. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used for hematological assessment of blood samples with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. Eight patients were male and 12 female. Mean hemoglobin electrophoresis values were Hb A1: 6.3%, Hb E 34.5%, HbS: 59.5% and Hb F: 1.9%. Three patients (15%) were symptomatic with vaso-occlusive crisis and one had cerebral stroke. These were siblings. The patient with cerebral stroke was using hydroxyurea. The incidence of HbSE disease is rising due to population admixtures and racial intermarriages. Increased numbers of cases of HbSE have been detected after premarital hemoglobinopathy screening in the Antakya and Çukurova regions of Turkey. The aim of this study was to report large numbers of patients with HbSE diagnosed through the routine HPLC method. The secondary aim was to emphasize that severe vaso-occlusive crisis such as infarction symptoms could be seen in HbSE. E，S型双杂合性血红蛋白，被称为HbSE症，是一种罕见的，临床上呈良性的病症，通常伴有轻度溶血症状。迄今为止只有25个关于此病症的报告。当前通常把HbSE症是作为一种良性病患，尽管已有报告显示出其梗塞并发症的存在。虽然只有极少的相关报告，我们仍研究了20个HbSE病例，并希望能陈述我们的发现。 我们检查了2001-2013年患者在我们血红蛋白病中心提交的检测记录。高效液相色谱法（HPLC）及乙二胺四乙酸被采用以评估收集到的血液样本。患者为8名男性，12名女性。他们的平均血红蛋白电泳值分别为Hb A1: 6.3%、Hb E:34.5%、Hb S:59.5%,Hb F:1.9%。其中3位（15%）患者患有梗塞的并发症，一位患有脑卒中。这三名患者是兄弟姐妹。患有脑卒中的患者当时使用过羟基脲。HbSE症发病率的上升是由于人口及人种间的混血。在土耳其Antakya 和Çukurova 地区的婚前血红蛋白病的筛查中，发现了HbSE症病例的增加。该研究的目的是报告大量通过高效液相色谱法诊断的HbSE症病例。次要目的是强调例如梗塞的严重并发症会由HbSE症引发。

Zinc phosphide has been used widely as a rodenticide. Upon ingestion, it gets converted to phosphine gas in the body, which is subsequently absorbed into the bloodstream through the stomach and the intestines and gets captured by the liver and the lungs. Phosphine gas produces various metabolic and nonmetabolic toxic effects. Clinical symptoms are circulatory collapse, hypotension, shock symptoms, myocarditis, pericarditis, acute pulmonary edema, and congestive heart failure. In this case presentation, we aim to present the intensive care process and treatment resistance of a patient who ingested zinc phosphide for suicide purposes.

Purpose: We aimed to compare the anesthetic and hemodynamic effects of intrathecally administered levobupivacaine and bupivacaine in combination with fentanyl in hip surgery.Subjects and methods: Sixty patients categorized as class 1 or 2 according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Physical Status classification, aged between 18 and 65 years and scheduled for hip surgery were randomly assigned to two groups. Patients in Group I received spinal anesthesia with 0.5 % bupivacaine 12.5 mg + fentanyl 10 µg (total 2.6 ml), and patients in Group II received 0.5 % levobupivacaine 12.5 mg + fentanyl 10 µg (total 2.6 ml) intrathecally. The level of sensory block and motor block was evaluated, and hemodynamic data were recorded.Results: The onset of sensory block and the time to two-segment regression were similar between the two groups. In the levobupivacaine group, the time to motor block onset was longer and the motor block regression time was shorter than that of bupivacaine group. The groups were similar with respect to hemodynamic data.Conclusion: We consider that levobupivacaine may be a good alternative to bupivacaine, particularly in surgical procedures where less motor block development is desired.

There are about 200 published case reports of patients with Fraser syndrome and several comprehensive reviews have previously been published. Fraser syndrome has a recurrence risk of 25% among siblings, therefore prenatal diagnosis is an important task for the diagnostician counseling affected families. We aimed to report a case of Fraser Syndrome that was diagnosed prenatally at 19 weeks of gestation with multiple ultrasonographic anomalies and terminated at 21 weeks of gestation, to review prenatal diagnostic criteria and possible etiologic factors of Fraser syndrome.

Fryns syndrome (FS) is a rare malformation. Major diagnostic criteria include congenital diaphragmatic hernia, distal limb and nail hypoplasia and abnormal facial appearance. We report a case of FS referred to our clinic at 25 weeks’ gestation with a diagnosis of congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Sonographic examination of the fetus revealed microretrognathia, a short neck with nuchal folds (17 mm), a left-sided diaphragmatic hernia, bilateral pelviectasis and cutaneous edema. The diagnosis of FS was made after exclusion of chromosome aberrations by amniocentesis and delivery of the fetus. Macroscopic inspection revealed low-set posteriorly rotated ears, microretrognathia, complet mid cleft palate, a broad nasal bridge, low hairline, short neck, distal limb hypoplasia, rocker bottom feet, atypical female dominant genitalia.

In this report we present a case of partial trisomy 8 referred to our clinic initially due to ultrasonographic finding of lateral ventricular dilatation. The detailed ultrasound scan at 26 weeks’ gestation demonstrated agenesis of corpus callosum and bilateral hidronephrosis in fetus. Later amniocentesis and fetal blood sampling were performed. The case of mosaicisim for partial trisomy 8 was detected in cultured amniotic fluid cells. This karyotypic anomaly was subsequently confirmed by fetal blood sampling as well.

Amaç: Talasemi ve orak hücreli anemi hastaları sık transfüzyon almaktadır. Hepatit B (HBV), hepatit C (HCV) ve insan immün yetmezlik virüsü (HIV) kanla geçmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı hemoglobinopati hastalarımızda bu enfeksiyonların sıklığını belirlemektir. Materyal ve Metod: Dört yüz on hemoglobinopati hastasını inceledik.Viral serolojiler "ikinci jenerasyon enzim bağlantılı immün absorban tahlil" metoduyla incelendi. Dört yüz on hastanın (116 talasemi major, 16 talasemi intermedia, 12 hemoglobin H, 222 orak hücreli anemi, 43 orak-beta talasemi ve 1 Hb E) 258"i erkek, 152"si kadındı. Bulgular: HBV sıklığı %1,2, HCV %3,2 ve HIV %0 bulundu. Sonuçlarımız göstermektedir ki transfüzyon ilişkili viral enfeksiyon sıklığı literatüre kıyasla daha yüksek değildir. Sonuç: Peryodik olarak duyarlı tarama testlerinin kullanılması ve doğru verici seçimi yüksek risk altındaki hemoglobinopati hastalarının bu enfeksiyolarda korunmasında çok önemlidir.

Bull reliefs have a prominent place in the rich figural art of Anatolian Seljuks. A typical characteristic of bull reliefs is that they always appear in combination with other figures, i. e. as bull-man, bull-lion, bull-eagle, bull-dragon, bul!-rhinoceros compositions or they represent Sign of Zodiac and calendar animals. Anatolian Seljuk bull reliefs are grouped in this article with reference to above combinations.

Türbede yüksek kabartma ile işlenen sirenler, arslanlar (belki de panter, veya kaplan), daha alçak kabartma ile çift başlı kartal, başka arslan tasvirleri ve ancak dikkatli bir araştırma ile farkedilen, bitkisel arabesk dekorasyonun içine ustalıkla gizlenmiş muhtelif insan figürleri dikkati çeker. Bu kabartmaları aşağıda tanıtalım : İnsan Kabartmaları : Türbenin kuzey tarafında külâh çatıya geçişi sağlayan tambur kısmında, bariz olarak seçilen çift başlı kartal kabartmasının solunda, sağır niş sistemi içinde cepheden bir insan başı seçilir. Arabeskli zemin içine gizlenmiş olan baş ancak dikkatle bakılınca görülür. Ölçüler takriben 0.10 x 0.10 m. dir. Maske şeklinde, bir palmet yaprağı formuna benzetilerek verilen başta Selçuk stiline uygun olarak Türk tipi üç dilimli taç vardır.

Die Figuren - Reliefs in der um 1312 datierten Hudavent Hatun Türbe in Niğde erwecken im Thema, Stil und in der Symbolik unsere Aufmerksamkeit. Die Reliefs in dem bereits publizierten Bau wurden bis heute nicht bearbeitet. Auf der Türbe sind im Hochrelief Sirenen, Löwen (vielleicht auck Panther oder Tiger), weniger plastisch dargestellte doppelköpfige Adler, weitere Löwen und im Arabesken-Dekor versteckte maskenartige Merschen - Köpfe abgebildet. Ehe wir auf deren nü.here Deutung eingehen, möchten wir zunächst diese Figuren nWıer bekannt machen. Menschen Reliefs: Auf der Nord - Seite, auf dem zum Giebel-Dach überleitenden Tambour, sieht man in der dem Doppeladler benachbarten Blendnische einen "en face" gegebenen Menschen-Kopf. Die Masse des im Arabeskenwerk versteckten Menschen-Kopfes sind 0.10 x 0.10 m. Der Kopf ist mit der drei zackigen innerasiatischen Krone im seldschukischen Stil Palmetförmig ausgebildet. Auf der West-Seite, auf dem unteren Teil der Tambour-Nische sieht man einen ebenfalls im Arabeskenwerk versteckten Menschen-Kopf.

Objectives: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related lockdown may have a negative effect on the neuropsychiatric status of Alzheimer's disease (AD) cases. In this study, it was aimed to find future implications by evaluating the neuropsychiatric conditions of AD cases during total and partial lockdown periods., Methods: It is a prospective, cross-sectional, and multicenter study that includes AD cases which have been followed for at least 1 year by outpatient clinics from different regions of Turkey. Sociodemographic data, comorbidities, mobility, existence of social interactions, clinical dementia rating (CDR) scale, and neuropsychiatric inventory (NPI) for total and partial lockdown were questioned by the caregivers with the help of case files of the patients., Results: A total of 302 AD cases were enrolled to the study (mean age: 78±8 years, mean duration of education: 5.8±9 years). The total comorbidity ratio was found to be 84%, with the most frequent comorbidity being hypertension. The mean NPI score was 22.9±21 in total lockdown and 17.7±15 in partial lockdown, which is statistically significantly different. When lockdown periods were compared with the total scores of NPI scores according to gender, existence of social interactions, mobility, and comorbidities were found higher in the total lockdown than the partial lockdown. When switching from total lockdown to partial lockdown, the presence of comorbidities, mobility, and CDR were found to be factors that had a significant effect on NPI scores. In regression analysis, CDR score was found as the most effective parameter on the neuropsychiatric status of AD cases for both lockdown periods., Conclusion: When lockdown-related restrictions were reduced, the neuropsychological conditions of AD cases were significantly improved. Purpose: Hyaluronic acid (HA) has a number of clinical applications in current practice. Therefore, correlation of HA with free radicals and inflammatory cells is clinically important. The purpose of this study is to measure the efficacy of high molecular weight HA on the oxidative stress of oral wounds (glutathione (GSH) and lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels), the inflammatory reaction (leucocytes, collagen and angiogenesis content), pain (visual analogue scale (VAS) records) and trismus (maximum interincisal opening (MIO) records) after third molar (M3) extraction., Patients and Methods: 40 patients were included in this study. 0.2 ml 0.8% HA was applied immediately after surgery within the HA group (n = 20). Nothing was applied to the control group (n = 20). The primary outcome variables were the changes in the inflammatory reaction (leucocyte, angiogenesis and collagen content), oxidative stress (GSH, LPO) and clinical parameters (VAS, MIO). Results were compared immediately after extraction (T0) and 1 week after surgery (T1). Bivariate analyses were used to assess the differences between the HA and control groups for each study variable., Results: There was a statistically significant difference of leucocyte infiltration and angiogenesis between the groups at T1. The HA group showed less leucocyte infiltration and more angiogenesis than the control group. There was no statistically significant difference in oxidative stress, VAS or MIO levels between the groups., Conclusion: Our results confirm the hypothesis that HA has an anti-inflammatory effect following M3 extraction. However, the oxidative stress levels and clinical outcomes were similar after one week. The authors report a case that is started with a simple upper third molar's surgical extraction and a broken 3.0 suture needle tip incident occurred. Broken fragment's localization has been detected with 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Needle tip has been reached with the help of CBCT vision. CBCT's benefits have been discussed on these types of cases and further migration of the needle tip during surgical procedure is reported.

Ganoderma lucidum is a medicinal higher Basidiomycetes mushroom that exerts anticancer effects through several different mechanisms. This study investigated the effects of G. lucidum on the telomerase activity and microRNA (miRNA) profiles of MCF-7 cells. According to the cytotoxicity results, the G. lucidum ether extract exhibits the highest cytotoxic potency; therefore it was chosen for the subsequent telomerase activity assay and miRNA profiling. The telomerase activity observed in the cells treated with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration of G. lucidum ether extract (100 µg/mL in dimethyl sulfoxide) was 32.2% lower than that of the control cells treated with 1% dimethyl sulfoxide. Among 1066 miRNAs, the most downregulated miRNA was hsa-miR-27a* (4.469-fold), and the most upregulated miRNA was hsa-miR-1285 (10.462-fold). A database search revealed the predicted miRNAs that target the catalytic subunit of the telomerase enzyme telomerase reverse transcriptase, and only miR-3687 (upregulated 2.153-fold) and miR-1207-5p (upregulated 2.895-fold) were changed by at least 2-fold. The miRNA profile changes demonstrated in this study provide a data set regarding their effects on the pathways that regulate telomerase activity in MCF-7 breast cancer cells treated with G. lucidum. These data should aid the development of novel cancer treatment strategies.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of these new generation hemostatic agents on early-stage soft tissue healing of warfarin-treated rats by measuring the tissue factor (TF) activities. Rats in the warfarin group were treated intraperitonally with 0.1 mg/kg warfarin, and rats in the control group were treated with 1 mL/kg saline. All rats had 3 incisions on dorsal dermal tissue applied Celox, Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS), or no hemostatic agent. Six rats from each group were killed on day 4, and the other 6 were killed on day 8. Prothrombin time (PT) and TF activities were evaluated, respectively. Both the hemostatic agents positively affected the hemostasis. Warfarin treatment increased the PT levels as expected. Celox-treated dermal tissues had higher TF activity when compared to ABS-treated ones. The ABS affected the early-stage healing positively in clinical aspect, whereas Celox was more effective on hemostasis by means of increasing TF activities.
