Treatment was initiated with the antidepressant that the physician considered appropriate. Patients were evaluated with the Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S) at baseline and after 6 and 12 weeks.Results: At 12 weeks, 6617 patients (78.8%) were evaluable. At inclusion, the mean SDS subscores were 6.5 ± 2.2 on the work/school activities dimension, 6.8 ± 1.9 on the social activities dimension, and 6.5 ± 2.0 on the family life dimension. At the 12-week follow-up visit, the mean change in score on these three dimensions was -3.9 ± 2.6, -4.2 ± 2.5, and -4.0 ± 2.5, respectively. At the 12-week follow-up visit, 90.0% of patients were responders (defined as patients whose SDS dimension scores decreased by at least one point) on the work/school SDS subscores; 92.8% were responders on the social life SDS subscores, and 91.1% were responders on family life/home responsibilities SDS subscores. Functional remission (defined as an SDS subscore of 0 at study end) rates were 18.0% for the work/school dimension, 16.8% for the social activities dimension, and 19.5% for the family life dimension. Using a cutoff of ≤2, remission rates were 56.8%, 55.0%, and 58.0%, respectively. Improvements in self-rated disability were correlated with improvements in symptoms measured with clinician-rated CGI-S.Conclusion: Patients consulting for anxiety or mood disorders report significant disability, which can be effectively reduced by antidepressant treatment.Keywords: depression, anxiety disorder, antidepressant, disability

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness and safety of Foley catheter and oral misoprostol for induction of labor (IOL). METHOD(S): The Cochrane Review on Mechanical Methods for Induction of Labour and Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE via Ovid, Ovid Emcare, CINAHL Plus, ClinicalTrials.gov and Scopus, from inception to April 2019, were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing Foley catheter to oral misoprostol for IOL in viable singleton gestations. Eligible trials for which raw data were obtained were included and individual participant data meta-analysis was performed. Primary outcomes were vaginal birth, a composite of adverse perinatal outcome (including stillbirth, neonatal death, neonatal seizures, admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, severe respiratory compromise or meconium aspiration syndrome) and a composite of adverse maternal outcome (including admission to the intensive care unit, maternal infection, severe postpartum hemorrhage, maternal death or uterine rupture). The quality of the included RCTs was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool and the certainty of evidence was evaluated using the GRADE approach. A two-stage random-effects model was used for meta-analysis according to the intention-to-treat principle and interactions between treatment and baseline characteristics were assessed. RESULT(S): Of seven eligible trials, four provided individual participant data for a total of 2815 participants undergoing IOL, of whom 1399 were assigned to Foley catheter and 1416 to oral misoprostol. All four trials provided data for each of the primary outcomes in all 2815 women. Compared with those receiving oral misoprostol, Foley catheter recipients had a slightly decreased chance of vaginal birth (risk ratio (RR), 0.95 (95%CI, 0.91-0.99); I2 , 2.0%; moderate-certainty evidence). Lola Kharkov National Medical University, Ukraine Department of Surgery №2 Abstract The term "critical ischemia of extremities" (critical limb ischemia) was first introduced by P.R.F. Bell in 1982 to refer to a group of diseases accompanied by pain in the legs at rest, trophic ulcers and distal necroses of the lower limbs. Critical ischemia of the lower limbs is a condition of almost complete cessation of arterial blood flow to the tissues of the lower limbs. If the arterial blood supply is not improved, limb amputation becomes inevitable for all patients. Treatment of ischemia of the lower extremities should be complex and differentiated depending on the stage and features of the course of the disease. Modern approaches to the therapy of lower limb ischemia include conservative and surgical methods of treatment, all of which are aimed at improving blood flow in the affected limbs. In the article modern methods of stimulating angiogenesis in patients with lower limb ischemia and results are shown. Abstract

Rangeland condition is defined as the state of health of rangeland in terms of species diversity and the potential for producing good quality forage for livestock. However, these rangelands are gradually declining due to poor resource management, land degradation and climate change, which poses a serious threat to the natural resources and economic development of South Africa. The aim of the study was to assess communal rangeland condition in terms of species composition, to determine woody density, browsing unit (BU/ha) and tree equivalents of woody plants at Santombe communal grazing lands. The study was conducted in four sites, which were selected based on the similar land use. In each site 100m x 50m were demarcated, three parallel transects of 3m x 100m were measured per site. Within each belt transect, line transect of 100m were measured to determine grasses composition using step point method. Woody plants occurring within a belt transect were identified, counted and recorded to evaluate woody plant species composition, density, browsing unit and tree equivalents. Fifteen grass species were identified, 80% were increasers, 13% decreaser and 7% exotic species. Fourteen woody species were identified, 64% were acceptable and 36% were unacceptable to goats. Rhamnus prinoides and Scutia myrtina were the most dominant species. Site 2 (2508 plants/ha) and site 1 (2112 plants/ha) had the highest plant density, while site 4 (2310 BU/ha) had the highest browsing unit compared to site 1, 2 and 3. Abundance of increaser species was a clear indication of rangeland deterioration. High percentage of acceptable wood plants showed a great potential for sustainable goat production. It was recommended that farmers should establish rangeland farmer’s association, which will assist in formulating rules and regulations for better utilisation of their feeding resources. Abstract

The feeding method is a very important factor of poultry growth, production and meat quality since the feed composition can affect or change the characteristics of chicken meat quality. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of restricted feeding duration on physico-chemical shelf-life indicators of broiler meat. A total of 144-day old broiler chicks were reared in a deep litter system until slaughter at 42 days. Chicks were randomly allocated to three treatments which were replicated three times with 16 birds per replicate. The three treatments were the control (T1), one week of feed restriction (T2), and two weeks of feed restriction (T3). Birds were fed with starter, grower and finisher diets. The parameters for meat quality were analysed using one-way analysis of variance. Significant effect was found in cooking loss, with WBSF having no effect for breast muscles. Quantitative feed restriction had an effect on the pH, lightness, redness, yellowness and saturation index of the meat. The pH levels in all the treatments were generally constant after 24hours to day 5 (5.87-6.05). The lightness levels in all the treatments were generally constant from day1 to day 7 (42.56-44.53). At day 8, the L* (lightness) values in treatment 2 reached its peak (58.49) then declined on day 9. Therefore, feed restriction did not affect meat quality after 24 hours, all the values were within normal range, and feed restriction had a minimal effect on shelf-life of broiler chickens during 10 days of storage. Abstract

Ticks are widely distributed throughout the world, especially in tropical and subtropical areas. Globally, costs associated with ticks and tick-transmitted pathogens in cattle range between US$ 22-30 billion. This study was carried out from April 2016 to March 2017 to identify the tick species from 10 cattle and also from six drag samples during the 12-month period. All ticks collected per animal and from vegetation were stored in labelled sample tubes containing 70% ethanol. A total of 2 391 ticks were collected during the study. Based on morphological traits, 10 tick species were identified: Amblyomma hebraeum (36.6%), Rhipicephalus evertsi evertsi (18.0%), R. (Boophilus) decoloratus (16.3%), Hyalomma rufipes (12.7%), R. appendiculatus (8.9%), R. simus (6.7%), Ixodes pilosus (0.5%), R. follis (0.3%), Haemaphysalis elliptica (0.04%) and H. silacea (0.04%). Significantly more larvae of R. (B.) decoloratus were collected from the vegetation than on cattle. No collection of the invasive cattle tick, R. (B.) microplus was found in the study area. The absence of R. (B.) microplus is of epidemiological interest in terms of tick distribution, as this species is known to be highly resistant to numerous acaricide compounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Goni Kharkiv National Medical University, Ministry of Health of Ukraine , Department of Surgery № 2 Abstract This article shows the results of determination of levels of direct and indirect indicators of endothelial dysfunction (ET1, VEGF, fibrinogen and CRP) in 29 patients with chronic critical limb ischemia with distal type of lesion of the vascular bed, aged from 59 to 84 years. Patients were of both sexes, of which 12 (41.4%) - patients with atherosclerosis and diabetes. It is shown that regardless of the stage of ischemia and the presence of diabetes in patients who were investigated, breach of vasomotor endothelial function (according to the level of endothelin-1), increased proliferative activity of endothelium (according to the level of VEGF), a violation of hemostatic (according to the level of fibrinogen) and proinflammatory endothelial function (based on C-reactive protein) was shown. Оптимизация хирургического лечения больных с лучевыми повреждениями покровных тканей С. А. Т. Гони Харьковский национальный медицинский университет МОЗ Украины, кафедра хирургии №2 Резюме Представлен анализ результатов лечения 29 больных поздними лучевыми повреждениями покровных тканей. Изучена эффективность различных видов кожной пластики при различных локализациях лучевых язв. Больные, получившие оперативное лечение (n=10) были разделены по типу пластики на две группы: пластика местными тканями (3 больных, 30%), и пластика кожным лоскутом: свободная кожная пластика (2 больных, 20%) и кожная пластика полнослойным лоскутом с осевым кровообращением (5 больных, 50%). Локализация лучевых язв – грудная клетка, голова, голень и крестцовая область. Размеры язв колебались от 2 до 9 см. Abstract

Crossbreeding is regarded as a faster way than using pure dairy breeds to improve the reproductive performance of dairy cows, which is pivotal to farm income. The reproductive performances of Jersey and Fleckvieh x Jersey (F x J) heifers and cows were compared in a pasture-based production system. Heifers were inseminated when showing signs of heat from 13 months old and cows from 40 days post calving. Using insemination records and pregnancy check results, fertility traits were derived and compared between breeds, using analysis of variance for continuous records. Age at first insemination and conception age for heifers did not differ between the two breeds, resulting in a similar age at first calving. For cows, the mean (± SE) interval from calving to first insemination was shorter for F x J cows, being 76.7 ± 2.2 days compared with 82.4 ± 2.5 days for Jersey cows. A larger proportion of F x J cows were inseminated within 80 days post calving, compared with the Jersey cows (0.70 and 0.54, respectively). Furthermore, the proportion of cows confirmed pregnant by 100 days in milk was higher for F x J cows in comparison with Jersey cows, being 0.79 and 0.66, respectively. Although the absolute number of days between calving and conception (days open) was slightly less for F x J cows in comparison with Jersey cows (104.8 ± 6.8 and 114.8 ± 8.1 days, respectively), the difference was not significant. These results indicate the potential of improving reproductive performance of Jersey cows through crossbreeding with the dual-purpose Fleckvieh.

Abstract

About 70% of South Africa's total area is suitable only for livestock production. Although livestock are found throughout the country, the highest numbers are concentrated in the Eastern Cape Province. The main objective was to assess the status of livestock production in the communal farming areas of the Eastern Cape. A survey using participatory rural appraisal (PRA) and structured questionnaires was used to collect the data on the status of livestock production in communal farming areas of the Eastern Cape. The data was analyzed using in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. All of the 70 households interviewed were livestock owners and consisted of respondents of about 55 years of age. There was a variation on village herd structure and herd distribution per household and farmers kept cattle for various reasons. The need to keep the balance of milk and meat products was observed on the breed choices and enterprise choice. Lack of knowledge, improper institutional arrangements and diseases were highlighted as the major challenges facing communal livestock production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

44. Species richness and adaptation of the invasive cattle tick, Rhipicephalus microplus(Acari: Ixodidae) on camps grazed by sheep in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa

Abstract

The seasonal dynamics and distribution of ticks play a pivotal role in the epidemiology of tick-borne diseases. The objective of this study was to establish the seasonal abundance and species richness of questing ixodid ticks on Amathole Montane Grassland camps grazed by sheep. Ticks questing for hosts were collected monthly for a period of three years by dragging flannel strips attached to a wooden spar over the vegetation. At each occasion, six replicate drag-samples were made in camps grazed by sheep. Of the questing ticks (n = 14 891) collected from the vegetation, the most abundant larvae were those of Rhipicephalus microplus(95.04%) followed by Rhipicephalus appendiculatus(2.32%), Rhipicephalus evertsi(1.56%), Rhipicephalus decoloratus(1.03%), Rhipicephalus simus(0.03) and Amblyomma hebraeum(0.02%). Comparing the two Rhipicephalus(Boophilus) spp., R. microplus(98.9%) outcompete the indigenous tick, R. decoloratus(1.1%). The R. micropluslarvae were significantly higher (P< 0.05) in 2015 (2.11±0.108), 2016 (2.02 ± 0.076) and 2017 (1.94±0.075) during spring than any other season. There were no significant differences (P ˃ 0.05) from R. appendiculatusquesting ticks collected in autumn (0.27±0.007; 0.30±0.052) and spring (0.33±0.007; 0.20±0.052) for 2015 and 2016, respectively. The study showed that the cattle tick, R. microplusadapted very well on host species, in this case sheep, and encroached to areas that were too cold for its adaptation.
