Abstract

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most malignant brain tumor, characterized with a rapid progression and poor prognosis despite modern therapies. Receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) is a membrane tyrosine kinase that could be activated by binding ligands with the extracellular domain, and communicating signals according to the tyrosine kinase activity of the intracellular domain. Recent studies revealed that RTKs such as EGFR, PDGFR and MET play key roles in cancer progression through regulation of abundant cellular processes. As transmembrane proteins, RTKs work as a mediator between the extracellular environment and intracellular compartments, translating the tumor microenvironment (TME) signals into the tumor cells. TME is also a critical regulator for the malignant process, lately receiving considerable attention. It is composed of extracellular matrix (ECM), the stromal cells (i.e., endothelial cells, microglia and fibroblasts), secreted factors, and hypoxia environment, etc. Among these, the strong invasion and sustained angiogenesis of GBM are closely related to ECM-receptor interaction and -associated signaling events. In this chapter, we consider the interaction and mechanisms of RTKs and TME in GBM progression, especially the role of ECM-receptor mediated signaling in tumor invasion, hypoxia and angiogenesis, glioma stem cells and tumor metabolism. We then summarize and discuss recent improvements on the approaches of targeting RTK and TME as the therapy in the primary GBM.

33. Solution‐Processable Design of Fiber‐Shaped Wearable Zn//Ni(OH)2 Battery.

Abstract

The rising of flexible and potable electronics urgently calls for matchable and miniaturized energy storage system as power supply. Herein, we develop a solution‐processable method to fabricate Ni@Ni(OH)2 fiber to design an all‐solid‐state fiber‐shaped Zn//Ni(OH)2 battery. This battery exhibits a high open circuit voltage of 1.75 V which is close to the theoretical value, considerable discharge capacity of 704 μAh cm−3 at current density of 0.5 A g−1, good rate capability with 75 % capacity retention when the discharge current increases from 0.5 A g−1 to 5 A g−1 and good cycling stability (92 % capacity retention after 2000 charge‐discharge cycles). Furthermore, the device performance remains unchanged under bending conditions, showing good flexibility and stability. It is believed that our design provides a promising strategy to fabricate long fiber‐shaped Zn//Ni(OH)2 battery as power supply for wearable electronics in future practical applications. A novel all‐solid‐state fiber‐shaped Zn//Ni(OH)2 battery has been fabricated by a solution‐processable method. This battery exhibits considerable discharge capacity, good rate capability and outstanding cycling stability. Furthermore, the device performance almost remains unchanged under different bending conditions, illustrating good flexibility. 41. Design of a wearable and shape-memory fibriform sensor for the detection of multimodal deformation.

Abstract

A wearable and shape-memory strain sensor with a coaxial configuration is designed, comprising a thermoplastic polyurethane fiber as the core support, well-aligned and interconnected carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as conductive filaments, and polypyrrole (PPy) coating as the cladding layer. In this design, the stress relaxation between CNTs is well confined by the outer PPy cladding layer, which endows the fibriform sensor with good reliability and repeatability. The microcracks generated when the coaxial fiber is under strain guarantee the superior sensitivity of this fibriform sensor with a gauge factor of 12 at 0.1% strain, a wide detectable range (from 0.1% to 50% tensile strain), and the ability to detect multimodal deformation (tension, bending, and torsion) and human motions (finger bending, breathing, and phonation). In addition, due to its shape-memory characteristic, the sensing performance of the fibriform sensor is well retained after its shape recovers from 50% deformation and the fabric woven from the shape-memory coaxial fibers can be worn on the elbow joints in a reversible manner (original-enlarged-recovered) and fitted tightly. Thus, this sensor shows promising applications in wearable electronics.
