Abstract Background Rhamnus utilis Decne (Rhamnaceae) is an ecologically and economically important tree species. The growing market demands and recent anthropogenic impacts to R. utilis forests has negatively impacted its populations severely. However, little is known about the potential distribution of this species and environmental factors that affect habitat suitability for this species. By using 219 occurrence records along with 51 environmental factors, present and future suitable habitats were estimated for R. utilis using Maxent modeling; the important environmental factors affecting its distribution were analyzed. Results January water vapor pressure, normalized difference vegetation index, mean diurnal range, and precipitation of the warmest quarter represented the critical factors explaining the environmental requirements of R. utilis. The potential habitat of R. utilis included most provinces from central to southeast China. Under the climate change scenario SSP 245, Maxent predicted a cumulative loss of ca. 0.73 × 105 km2 in suitable habitat for R. utilis during 2041–2060 while an increase of ca. 0.65 × 105 km2 occurred during 2081–2100. Furthermore, under this climate change scenario, the suitable habitat will geographically expand to higher elevations. Conclusions The findings of our study provide a foundation for targeted conservation efforts and inform future research on R. utilis. By considering the identified environmental factors and anticipating the potential impacts of climate change, conservation strategies can be developed to preserve and restore suitable habitats for R. utilis. Protecting this species is not only crucial for maintaining biodiversity but also for sustaining the economic benefits associated with its ecological services.

Molecular dynamics simulations have become increasingly important in understanding the microscopic mechanisms of various molecular systems. However, the high energy barriers in complicated molecules often make it difficult to observe events of interest within a reasonable timescale. To address this issue, researchers have developed a variety of enhanced sampling methods to explore configuration space by adding bias potentials along the slowly changing collective variables (CVs). In this study, we have developed a new tool that combines slow feature analysis and biasing-enhanced sampling methods to identify effective CVs and enhance the sampling efficiency of configuration space. Boiling is an essential process in numerous applications including power plants, thermal management, water purification, and steam generation. Previous studies have shown that surfaces with microcavities or biphilic wettability can enhance the efficiency of boiling heat transfer, that is, the heat transfer coefficient (HTC). Surfaces with permeable structures such as micropillar arrays, in contrast, have shown significant enhancement of the critical heat flux (CHF). In this work, we investigated microtube structures, where a cavity is defined at the center of a pillar, as structural building blocks to enhance HTC and CHF simultaneously in a controllable manner. We demonstrated simultaneous CHF and HTC enhancements of up to 62 and 244%, respectively, compared to those of a smooth surface. The experimental data along with high-speed images elucidate the mechanism for simultaneous enhancement where bubble nucleation occurs in the microtube cavities for increased HTC and microlayer evaporation occurs around microtube sidewalls for increased CHF. Furthermore, we combined micropillars and microtubes to create surfaces that further increased CHF by achieving a path to separate nucleating bubbles and rewetting liquids. This work provides guidelines for the systematic surface design for boiling heat transfer enhancement and has important implications for understanding boiling heat transfer mechanisms.

In order to understand the protective capability of the common A-grade corrugated beam barrier for the truck, the method of the computer simulation and the full-scale impact test with real vehicles were used to research it. The results show that the ultimate protection energy of the common A-grade corrugated beam barrier for the truck is 125kJ, which can satisfy the requirements of the old standard, but can not satisfy the requirements of the new standard. The research results can provide basic data for the rational application of the common Agrade corrugated beam barrier.
