Unlabelled: We report the case of a 13-year-old Japanese boy with a patent ductus venosus. He experienced mild disorientation and hallucination at age 8 years. Hyperammonaemia was discovered at age 12 years. Brain MRI demonstrated multiple intracranial hyperintense lesions, mainly in the globus pallidum, which suggested portosystemic encephalopathy. Patent ductus venosus was demonstrated by abdominal ultrasonography and angiography. Cardiopulmonary investigation revealed pulmonary hypertension. An intracranial hyperintense lesion observed on T1-weighted MRI may be an initial clue for discovering a patent ductus venosus in asymptomatic patients.Conclusion: When patent ductus venosus is disclosed, pulmonary hypertension should be sought, as in cases with other portosystemic shunts. Although sequence-based studies show that basal-like features lead to worse prognosis and chemotherapy-resistance compared to the classical subtype in advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), a surrogate biomarker distinguishing between these subtypes in routine diagnostic practice remains to be identified. We aimed to evaluate the utility of immunohistochemistry (IHC) expression subtypes generated by unsupervised hierarchical clustering based on staining scores of four markers (CK5/6, p63, GATA6, HNF4a) applied to endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (EUS-FNAB) materials. EUS-FNAB materials taken from 190 treatment-naïve advanced PDAC patients were analyzed, and three IHC patterns were established (Classical, Transitional, and Basal-like pattern). Basal-like pattern (high co-expression of CK5/6 and p63 with low expression of GATA6 and HNF4a) was significantly associated with squamous differentiation histology (p < 0.001) and demonstrated the worst overall survival among our cohort (p = 0.004). IHC expression subtype (Transitional, Basal vs Classical) was an independent poor prognosticator in multivariate analysis [HR 1.58 (95% CI 1.01-2.38), p = 0.047]. Furthermore, CK5/6 expression was an independent poor prognostic factor in histological glandular type PDAC [HR 2.82 (95% CI 1.31-6.08), p = 0.008]. Our results suggest that IHC expression patterns successfully predict molecular features indicative of the Basal-like subgroup in advanced PDAC. Objective: Intra-amniotic infections increase the risk of preterm delivery and short- and long-term fetal morbidity; however, no consensus exists on the choice of antimicrobial agents as treatment for these infections. We aimed to examine the efficacy of intravenous administration of sulbactam/ampicillin (SBT/ABPC) and azithromycin (AZM) for intra-amniotic infection in patients with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM)., Methods: This study followed a single-centered retrospective cohort design. We compared changes in interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels and the load of Ureaplasma species DNA in the amniotic fluid between singleton pregnancy patients with intra-amniotic infection (Group A) and without either intra-amniotic inflammation (IAI) or microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity (MIAC) (Group B) who developed PPROM between week 22, day 0 and week 33, day 6 of gestation and maintained pregnancy for ≥7 d after diagnosis (August 2014 to April 2020). Patients in Group A were treated with SBT/ABPC and AZM, whereas those in Group B were treated with ABPC and AZM or clarithromycin., Results: Thirty-one patients with IAI and 48 patients without either IAI or MIAC at diagnosis of PPROM underwent pregnancy/delivery management at our hospital. Following the study population selection, we evaluated six patients in Group A and 13 patients in Group B. Amniotic fluid IL-6 concentrations at the initial amniocentesis were high, ranging from 11.7 ng/mL to 139.2 ng/mL, indicating a state of severe IAI in all six patients in Group A. In five of the six patients in Group A, the amniotic fluid cultures during the first amniocentesis included Ureaplasma species only. In both groups, the amniotic fluid IL-6 concentration at the follow-up amniocentesis was lower than that at the initial amniocentesis (Group A: follow-up median 3.06 ng/mL [quartiles, 1.75-6.74], initial median 30.53 ng/mL [quartiles, 15.60-67.07], p ＝.03; Group B: follow-up median 0.40 ng/mL [quartiles, 0.18-0.69], initial median 0.96 ng/mL [quartiles, 0.65-1.42], p ＝.005); Group A showed a greater decrease than Group B ( p  < .001). No difference was found between the microbial loads of Ureaplasma species DNA in the initial and follow-up amniocentesis ( p  = .13)., Conclusions: In patients with PPROM and intra-amniotic infection, IL-6 levels in the amniotic fluid decreased significantly from before antimicrobial administration to day 7. This decrease is thought to be mainly due to the effects of intravenous AZM. The efficacy of AZM in patients with PPROM needs to be further confirmed via randomized controlled studies in the future.

Background: The emergence of omicron variants exhibiting antigenic changes has led to an increase in breakthrough infection among individuals with a wild-type SARS-CoV-2 vaccine booster. The correlation between post-booster spike-specific antibodies and omicron infection risk remains unclear., Methods: This prospective cohort study included SARS-CoV-2-naive healthcare workers with three-dose BNT162b2. Post-booster spike-specific IgG and interferon-γ levels were measured. Breakthrough infection was documented during a 10-month omicron-predominant period. Household and healthcare contacts were followed to identify subsequent infections. The IgG titers were additionally measured at the end of follow-up, and the titers at exposure were estimated from the two-point titers., Results: Of 333 participants, 89 developed infection, of whom 37 (41.6 %) were household contacts. Kaplan-Meier curves indicated that higher IgG titers were significantly correlated with lower cumulative infection incidence (p = 0.029), whereas the interferon-γ levels were not (p = 0.926). Multivariate Cox analysis showed that increasing IgG titers were associated with a reduced hazard ratio (HR) of 0.26 (95% CI, 0.12-0.55). Household exposure posed a greater infection risk than healthcare exposure (HRs, 11.24 [6.88-18.40] vs. 2.82 [1.37-5.44]). The difference in geometric mean IgG titers of infected and uninfected participants was significant among household contacts (20,244 AU/mL vs. 13,842 AU/mL, p = 0.031). Estimation of IgG titers at exposure showed a significantly higher infection incidence in those exposed with titers of <3,000 AU/mL than in those with higher titers (79.2 % vs. 32.3 %, p < 0.001)., Conclusions: Spike-specific antibodies induced by a wild-type SARS-CoV-2 vaccine booster are suggested to be effective in protecting against omicron infection. Introduction: We aimed to use two indices, amniotic fluid interleukin-6 (IL-6) concentration at diagnosis and diagnosis-to-delivery interval, to clarify the frequencies of maternal inflammatory response (MIR) and fetal inflammatory response (FIR) in the placenta of patients with intra-amniotic infection and intra-amniotic inflammation (IAI)., Methods: This is a single-center retrospective cohort study. From August 2014 to April 2020, participants were diagnosed with IAI with or without microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity (MIAC) using amniocentesis. IAI was defined as concentrations of amniotic IL-6 ≥ 2.6 ng/mL. MIAC was defined as a positive amniotic fluid culture. IAI with MIAC was defined as an intra-amniotic infection. We calculated the cut-off values for IL-6 concentration in the amniotic fluid at diagnosis and the diagnosis-to-delivery interval for MIR-positive cases among those with intra-amniotic infection., Results: The amniotic fluid IL-6 concentration at diagnosis and diagnosis-to-delivery interval were 15.8 ng/mL and 12 h, respectively. Among cases with intra-amniotic infection, MIR was 98% (52/53) positive, i.e., when either of the two cut-off values was exceeded. There were no significant differences between the frequencies of MIR and FIR. Background and Aim: This study aimed to compare patients with and without sedation during emergency endoscopy for upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) and to clarify the safety and efficacy of sedation in emergency endoscopy., Methods: We retrospectively collected 389 patients who underwent emergency endoscopy for UGIB at Ureshino Medical Center from 2016 to 2021. Patients were divided into two groups: sedation group during emergency endoscopy and nonsedation group. Clinical characteristics, patient status on admission, and UGIB etiology were evaluated. Treatment outcomes and adverse events were evaluated using propensity score matching (PSM), and risk factors for mortality from UGIB were investigated using Cox multivariate analysis., Results: The sedation group was significantly younger, composed of a higher proportion of males, and had chronic liver disease. Blood pressure and hemoglobin level on admission were significantly higher in the sedation group. The main cause of bleeding was peptic ulcer, which was significantly higher in the nonsedation group. PSM created 133 matched pairs. The success rate of endoscopic hemostasis was similar in both groups, and procedure time was significantly shorter in the sedation group than in the nonsedation group (17.6 ± 10.0 versus 20.2 ± 10.2 min, P = 0.04). There were no significant differences in adverse events between groups. Cox multivariate analyses revealed that red blood cell transfusion [hazard ratio (HR) 4.45, P < 0.02] and rebleeding (HR 3.30, P = 0.03) were associated with increased risk of 30-day mortality from UGIB., Conclusions: Sedation reduced the procedure time during emergency endoscopy for UGIB. This study classifies fetal inflammatory response syndrome (FIRS) based on the presence or absence of maternal-fetal inflammation in the placenta and clarifies the association of FIRS with neonatal morbidities. Women (330) who delivered at gestational ages of 22w0d-33w6d were enrolled and grouped into four based on FIRS and maternal/fetal inflammatory response (MIR/FIR) statuses: Group A: without FIRS and MIR/FIR (reference group); Group B: MIR/FIR alone; Group C: FIRS and MIR/FIR; and Group D: FIRS without MIR/FIR. The associations between bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), adverse neonatal outcomes, extremely low gestational age and Groups B, C, and D were investigated after adjustment for potential confounders. Among patients with FIRS, 29% were in Group D. The risk of BPD was increased in Groups C (adjusted odds ratio (aOR): 3.36; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.14-9.89) and D (aOR: 4.17; 95% CI: 1.03-16.9), as was the risk of adverse neonatal outcomes (Group C: aOR: 7.17; 95% CI: 2.56-20.1; Group D: aOR: 6.84; 95% CI: 1.85-25.2). The risk of extremely low gestational age was increased in Group D (aOR: 3.85; 95% CI: 1.56-9.52). Therefore, FIRS without MIR/FIR is not rare and may be associated with neonatal morbidities more than FIRS and MIR/FIR.

Objectives Neoadjuvant therapy followed by radical resection improves the borderline-resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC) prognosis; however, the optimal therapeutic regimen remains unclear. Gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel (GnP) showed a high anti-tumor effect in primary lesions in a prospective study for metastatic disease. However, evidence concerning its feasibility is still lacking in patients with BRPC. We therefore evaluated the tolerability of neoadjuvant GnP (NAC-GnP) for BRPC. Methods This single-center prospective study evaluated 10 patients with BRPC who were treated with two cycles of NAC-GnP. The primary endpoint was feasibility for NAC-GnP. Treatment feasibility was defined as a successful outcome in at least eight patients. Results Ten patients who had BRPC in contact with the celiac artery (n=5), superior mesenteric artery (n=3), or hepatic artery (n=2) were enrolled. The median age was 75 (range, 40-82) years old. Grade 3 anorexia and grade 2 pneumonia occurred in one patient each, so treatment was feasible in eight patients. The median primary tumor reduction and response rates were 33% (range, 0-68%) and 60%, respectively. Six of eight patients who had abnormal CA19-9 levels at the time of enrolment showed a decrease in CA19-9 levels, with a median decrease of 72%. Five patients underwent radical resection, including R0 resection in four. Postoperative grade IIIa Clavien-Dindo complications occurred in one patient (upper gastrointestinal bleeding and pancreatic fistula). Conclusion Two-cycle NAC-GnP is a feasible treatment for patients with BRPC. Further studies on NAC-GnP in patients with BRPC are warranted.

Background: A cost-effective and eco-friendly method is needed for the assessment of humoral immunity against SARS-CoV-2 in large populations., Objective: We investigated the performance of an ELISA that uses silkworm-produced proteins to quantify the strain-specific anti-Spike IgG (anti-S IgG) titer., Methods: The OD values for the anti-His-tag antibody, a standard material of ELISA quantification, were measured. Correlations between the ELISA for each strain and the Abbott SARS-CoV-2 IgG II Quant assay for the wild type were evaluated with serum samples from nine participants with various infection and vaccination statuses., Results: Linear dose-responses were confirmed by high coefficients of determination: 0.994, 0.994, and 0.996 for the wild-type, Delta, and Omicron (BA.1) strain assays, respectively. The coefficient of determination for the wild-type and Delta strain assays was high at 0.959 and 0.892, respectively, while the Omicron strain assay had a relatively low value of 0.563. Booster vaccinees showed similar or higher titers against all strains compared to infected persons without vaccination. The Omicron-infected persons without vaccination had lower antibody titers against wild type than did the vaccinated persons., Conclusions: This study provides data indicating that the ELISA with silkworm-produced proteins makes it possible to discriminate and quantify the strain-specific anti-S IgG antibody induced by vaccination or infection.

The relation between pre-vaccination antipyretic use and antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination has been unclear. We measured the pre- and post-BNT162b2 booster spike-specific IgG titers and recorded antipyretic use and adverse reactions for SARS-CoV-2-naive hospital healthcare workers. The data of 20 cases who used antipyretics within 24 h before vaccination were compared to that of 281 controls. The post-booster geometric mean IgG titers were 15,559 AU/mL (95 % CI, 11,474-21,203) for the cases and 16,850 AU/mL (95 % CI, 15,563-18,243) for the controls (p = 0.622). No significant reduction in the frequency or severity of any of the solicited adverse reactions was found for the cases. Similar results were obtained after adjustment with propensity-score matching for demographic characteristics, baseline IgG titer, and post-vaccination antipyretic use. Background: A severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mRNA vaccine booster elicits sufficient antibody responses that protect against coronavirus disease 2019, whereas adverse reactions such as fever have been commonly reported. Associations between adverse reactions and antibody responses have not been fully characterized, nor has the influence of antipyretic use., Methods: This is a prospective observational cohort study in Japan, following our prior investigation of BNT162b2 2-dose primary series. Spike-specific immunoglobulin G (IgG) titers were measured for SARS-CoV-2-naive hospital healthcare workers who received a BNT162b2 booster. The severity of solicited adverse reactions, including the highest body temperature, and self-medicated antipyretics were reported daily for 7 days following vaccination through a web-based self-reporting diary., Results: The data of 281 healthcare workers were available. Multivariate analysis extracted fever after the booster dose (β = .305, P < .001) as being significantly correlated with the specific IgG titers. The analysis of 164 participants with data from the primary series showed that fever after the second dose was associated with the emergence of fever after the booster dose (relative risk, 3.97 [95% confidence interval, 2.48-6.35]); however, the IgG titers after the booster dose were not associated with the presence or degree of fever after the second dose. There were no significant differences in the IgG titers by the use, type, or dosage of antipyretic medication., Conclusions: These results suggest an independent correlation between mRNA vaccine-induced specific IgG levels and post-booster vaccination fever, without any significant influence of fever after the primary series. Waning humoral immunity after mRNA vaccination against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a significant problem for public health. Breakthrough infection in hospitals over several months after vaccination has not been fully characterized, especially against the delta (B.1.617.2) variant. Here, we describe an outbreak in our hospital in September of 2021, mainly through serological evaluation of the breakthrough infection. This retrospective observational study was done at an emergency and acute care hospital with 204 beds and 486 staff members where most staff members (92.6%) had had their second BNT162b2 vaccination by May of 2021. The peri-infection anti-spike RBD protein IgG (anti-S IgG) titers (lowest values between 11 days before and 7 days after onset or diagnosis) of serum samples from the breakthrough-infected persons were quantified. We also logarithmically estimated the anti-S IgG titers during the exposure period in September of uninfected staff members from their samples collected in May and December 2021. Whole-genome sequencing was done on obtained samples. In this outbreak, twelve persons (ten inpatients and two staff members) were diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection by Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) or RT-PCR, eight of whom had been vaccinated twice. Peri-infection anti-S IgG titers could be determined in seven of the eight breakthrough cases, with a geometric mean titer (GMT) of 1,034 AU/ml (95% confidence interval [CI], 398 to 2,686). Among 289 uninfected staff members with data from the two sampling points, the GMT of the estimated anti-S IgG titers during the exposure period in 51 staff members, who were working at the outbreak ward and potentially exposed but uninfected, and 238 other unexposed staff members were 1,458 AU/ml (95% CI, 1,196 to 1,777) and 1,628 AU/ml (95% CI, 1,500 to 1,766), respectively. All viruses from the eight samples for which whole-genome sequencing was available were identified as delta variants. Of the infected persons, one remained asymptomatic throughout the course of treatment, and eleven had an illness of mild to moderate severity, including ten who received monoclonal antibody cocktail (Casirivimab/imdevimab) therapy. Measurement and estimation of anti-spike antibody levels after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination would be helpful for evaluating the risk of breakthrough infection and for determining the necessity of booster vaccination., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.

Background: The reactogenicity of BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine has been commonly reported and antipyretic medications are often used for mitigating adverse reactions. Possible associations between the reactogenicity events and specific antibody responses have not been fully investigated, nor has the influence of using antipyretics., Methods: Serum samples were collected from hospital healthcare workers with no COVID-19 history and the SARS-CoV-2 spike-specific IgG titer after two doses was measured. Degree of solicited adverse reactions in a day, including the highest body temperature, were reported using a self-reporting diary for five days after each dose. The highest body temperature during the five days was divided into three grades (<37.0 °C, 37.0-37.9 °C, or ≥ 38.0 °C). Self-medicated antipyretics were reported using a questionnaire., Results: The data of 335 participants were available for analysis. Multivariate analysis extracted the fever grade after the second dose (standardized coefficient beta = 0.301, p < 0.0001), female sex (beta = 0.196, p = 0.0014), and age (beta = -0.119, p = 0.0495) as being significantly correlated with the IgG titers. The positive correlation of the fever grade after the second dose with the IgG titers was also observed when analyzed by sex and age. Background: Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) is the most advanced stage of peripheral artery disease. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach is necessary to avoid major amputation in CLTI patients. Malnutrition worsens the condition of CLTI patients, and therefore, it may be important to evaluate the nutritional status in patients with CLTI. This study was designed to evaluate the baseline patient characteristics and the influence of the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score on the clinical results., Method and Results: A retrospective, single-center, non-randomized study was conducted to evaluate the associations of death, major amputation, and wound healing rate at 12 months with the CONUT score on admission. Consecutive CLTI patients (mean age 73.2 ± 10.4 years; 84 males) who underwent endovascular therapy (EVT) for infra-popliteal lesions at Fukuoka University Hospital from January 2014 to May 2019 were enrolled and divided into two groups (higher and lower CONUT score groups). The higher CONUT group showed a higher percentage of dialysis (66.7% vs. 33.9%, p < 0.001) and a higher clinical frailty scale (5.9 ± 1.4 vs. 4.9 ± 1.9, p = 0.005) than the lower CONUT group. Rates of amputation-free survival were 89.5% and 69.8% in the lower and higher CONUT groups, respectively. In addition, rates of wound healing at 12 months were 98.0% and 78.3% in the lower and higher CONUT groups, respectively. Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated that a higher CONUT score was an independent predictor for delayed wound healing (OR: 11.2; 95% CI: 1.29-97.5; p = 0.028)., Conclusion: An assessment of the nutritional status using the CONUT score could be useful for predicting wound healing, and earlier nutritional intervention may improve the outcome of CLTI patients. Early examination and treatment, along with raising awareness of the issue, may be important for improving the prognosis.

Introduction: We investigated the associations between endothelial dysfunction (ED) as evaluated by the reactive hyperemia index (RHI) obtained using Endo-PAT2000® and atherosclerotic risk factors in patients who underwent coronary artery angiography (CAG)., Methods: The subjects consisted of 191 patients who were clinically suspected to have CAD and underwent CAG, and in whom we could perform Endo-PAT2000®. We divided the patients into ED (RHI<1.67, n = 71) and non-ED (RHI≥1.67, n = 120) groups., Results: The ED group was significantly older and showed a higher ratio of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (L/H) than the non-ED group. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the associations between the presence of ED and age, gender, and BMI in addition to L/H. Age [odds ratio (OR) = 1.03, p = .02] and L/H (OR = 1.64, p = .01) were identified as significant independent markers of the presence of ED. Next, we divided 122 patients with statin treatment into ED (n = 40) and non-ED (n = 82) groups. The ED group tended to have higher L/H and lower HDL-C than the non-ED group. HDL-C (OR = 0.95, p = .01) and age (OR = 1.05, p = .04) were identified as independent markers of the presence of ED., Conclusions: L/H was an independent marker of the presence of ED in patients without dyslipidemia. In addition, among patients with statin treatment, HDL-C was an independent marker of the presence of ED.

Background: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration/biopsy (EUS-FNA/B) is a standard method for pathological diagnosis of pancreatic solid lesions. The EchoTip ProCore 20G® (PC20), a 20-gauge biopsy needle with a forward-bevel core trap, has been available in Japan since 2015., Methods: We compared the efficacy of the PC20 with that of the EchoTip ProCore 22G® (PC22) and Acquire 22G® (AC22) in EUS-FNA/B for diagnosing pancreatic cancer. This retrospective study included 191 patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent EUS-FNA/B using the PC20, PC22, or AC22 at our facility from April 2013 to October 2019. We investigated the patients' clinical characteristics and the diagnostic accuracy and safety of each needle., Results: A sufficient stroke length of puncture was secured in all patients. The maximum length under EUS was shorter with the AC22 (22.1 ± 2.2 mm) than PC20 (30.6 ± 0.7 mm, p < 0.01) and PC22 (30.3 ± 0.8 mm, p < 0.01). The histological accuracy was 96.4% with the PC20 but only 58.8% with the PC22 (adjusted p (p-adj) < 0.0001) and 75.0% with the AC22 (p-adj = 0.06). The diagnostic accuracy of the combination of histology and cytology was 96.4% with the PC20, while it was 72.1% with the PC22 (p-adj < 0.0001) and 91.7% with the AC22 (p-adj > 0.99). One patient (0.9%) in the PC20 group developed mild pancreatitis, but no adverse events occurred with the other needles., Conclusions: The PC20 showed better diagnostic capability than the PC22. The diagnostic efficacy was similar between the PC20 and AC22. The high histological accuracy of the PC20 could be advantageous for lesions in which histological assessment is critical.

We observed a case of classic cloacal exstrophy (CE) from 17 to 30 weeks' gestation. At 17 weeks, an omphalocele and single umbilical artery (SUA) were diagnosed with a normal female karyotype on amniocentesis. A pelvic cystic adjacent to SUA, considered to be the bladder at 17 weeks, became swollen to form double cysts at 25 weeks. A phallus-like structure along the lower abdomen was additionally detected, leading to the diagnosis of CE. Fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 30 weeks confirmed that the phallus-like structure was of intestinal origin. The presence of a non-visualizable bladder together with abdominal wall defect or omphalocele and an elephant trunk-like deformity are key findings in the prenatal diagnosis of classic CE. Fetal MRI was useful in confirming ultrasonographic findings and obtaining additional findings for the diagnosis of CE. Background: Several previous studies have suggested that Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection affects the serum lipid profile. However, it remains controversial and the mechanism has not been elucidated. The purpose of this study is to use an epidemiological perspective to evaluate the association between H. pylori infection and the serum lipid profile., Methods: Multivariate analysis was performed using the data of serum lipid profile, infection status of H. pylori, fitness/lifestyle habits, and various subjects' characteristics which were derived from the 15,679 generally healthy individuals in Japan. The average treatment effects (ATEs) of H. pylori infection on the serum lipid profile were estimated using augmented inverse probability weighting (AIPW). A meta-analysis was also performed using the 27 studies worldwide in which the status of H. pylori infection and at least one serum examination value (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (TC), or triglyceride (TG)) were described., Results: The ATEs determined with AIPW showed that H. pylori infection has significant positive effects on LDL-C and TC (ATE (95% confidence interval [95%CI]) = 3.4 (2.36-4.49) and 1.7 (0.58-2.88), respectively) but has significant negative effects on HDL-C and TG (ATE (95%CI) = -1.2 (-1.74 to -0.72) and -3.5 (-5.92 to -1.06), respectively). The meta-analysis to estimate the association between H. pylori infection and the serum lipid profile revealed that H. pylori infection is positively associated with LDL-C, TC, and TG (standardized mean difference [SMD] (95%CI) = 0.11 (0.09-0.12), 0.09 (0.07-0.10) and 0.06 (0.05-0.08), respectively) and negatively associated with HDL-C (SMD = -0.13 (-0.14 to -0.12))., Conclusion: Both our multivariate analyses and meta-analysis showed that H. pylori infection significantly affects the serum lipid profile, which might lead to various dyslipidemia-induced severe diseases like coronary thrombosis or cerebral infarction., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.
