Abstract

This study's objective is to discuss hypnogenesis parting from one of Erickson's chronic pain cases, analyzing hypnogenesis involvement in iatrogenesis and in the therapeutic interventions. Hypnogenesis is a concept for how clinical relationships tend to reproduce the ideas and theories of the therapist in the subject's subjectivity. In hypnotherapy, hypnogenesis is implicated in the relational nature of the hypnotic experience, addressing the difficulty in separation between fabricated and revealed realities. A case of trigeminal neuralgia is analyzed and discussed to illustrate the implications of hypnogenesis in iatrogenesis and its therapeutic potential for chronic patients. The study draws a theoretical possibility on how hypnogenesis highlights iatrogenesis by the neglect of the subject's needs in clinical consultations. Then, the study demonstrates how Erickson uses hypnogenesis in the patient's therapy, favoring her well-being. To approach hypnogenic communicational processes, Charles Peirce's concept of habit and is utilized as a complex system of subjective processes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

8. Non-infectious uveitis referred for pediatric rheumatologic assessment and management: A Portuguese retrospective study.

Abstract

Background: Pediatric uveitis poses challenges in diagnosis and treatment due to asymptomatic or oligosymptomatic presentations and high rates of intraocular complications. Objectives: This study aimed to characterize clinical manifestations and treatment approaches of pediatric uveitis patients in a northern Portuguese tertiary hospital. Methodology: A retrospective study was conducted involving 41 patients diagnosed with uveitis between 2006 and 2021. All individuals identified by the Opthalmology department were referred to Pediatric Rheumatology outpatient clinic. Demographic, clinical, treatment, and intraocular complications data were collected. Results: Of the patients, 78% had anterior uveitis, 17% had panuveitis, and 5% had intermediate uveitis. Uveitis associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) was the most common cause (43.9%), predominantly in the oligoarticular, anti-nuclear antibody-positive subgroup. Complications were identified in 80.5% of the patients. Uveitis associated with JIA was diagnosed earlier [5.0 years (3.0–10.5) vs. 9.0 years (5.5–14.0), P = .036], more frequently in asymptomatic patients (71% vs. 23%, P = .010), had a more insidious installation (71% vs. 17%, P = .004), and required more tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor treatment (70% vs. 39%, P = .027). Conclusion: The high rates of intraocular complications and systemic pathology association highlight the need for a combined approach of ophthalmology and pediatric rheumatology in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric uveitis. Abstract

The $Wtb$ vertex structure and the search for new anomalous couplings is studied using top quark measurements obtained at the LHC, for a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. By combining the latest and most precise results on the single top quark production cross section and the measurements of the $W$-boson helicity fractions ($F_0$ and $F_L$), it is possible to set new limits, at 95% CL (confidence level), on the real and imaginary components of the new couplings. The combination of the LHC observables clearly improves the limits obtained when using the individual results alone. The updated measurements of the $W$-boson helicity fractions and the $s+t$-channels electroweak single top quark production, at the Tevatron, improve the LHC limits, when a world combination of all observables (LHC+Tevatron) is performed., Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

In order to take advantage of the enormous potential of graphene for future electronic micro-circuits and other applications it is necessary to develop reliable, rapid and widely applicable methods to visualize graphene based structures. We report here on a micro-droplet condensation technique, which allows for quick visual identification of graphene on a variety of substrates, including some which were previously considered unsuitable for the visualization of carbon layers. The technique should also be applicable to visualize artificially patterned graphene structures which are expected to be key technologically enabling components in electronic micro-circuits and other applications., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

Soil-cement is a building material that is considered low-cost and has a low environmental impact. Despite its benefits, performance optimisation studies are scarce compared to other materials such as concrete. The possibility of obtaining soil-cement with improved characteristics, such as flexural strength, would enable the increased use of this product in new applications in construction. The aim of this study is to produce high-performance soil-cement (HPSC) specimens and to evaluate and compare this new material with high-performance concrete (HPC) in terms of flexural strength. A total of 12 specimens were produced with a mixture of 23.5% (by mass) of cement with the application of 10 MPa of pressure for its compaction. The results show that, at 28 days, the specimens reached an average strength of 6.73 MPa and, at 240 days, 12.34 MPa. This means that the HPSC reached a flexural strength resistance equivalent to HPC without the need for mined materials, such as sand and gravel, or the additives adopted in some doses of HPC, such as superplasticisers. Therefore, when using local soil, HPSC can be considered an environmentally preferable alternative to HPC for many construction applications where flexural strength is a requirement., Peer Reviewed, Postprint (published version)

Abstract

Dissertação de Mestrado em Engenharia e Gestão Industrial apresentada à Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia O aumento das atividades nos diferentes setores de produção e/ou serviços tem impulsionado a deterioração do meio ambiente. Consequentemente, a degradação do meio ambiente tornou-se num tema de destaque dentro das organizações. As atividades de uma organização podem afetar tanto a própria organização como, também, fora da própria organização. Como tal, as organizações começaram a adotar o conceito de sustentabilidade nas suas cadeias de abastecimento, a fim de mitigar a poluição, melhorar o desempenho ambiental e o bem-estar social, aumentar a eficiência das diversas atividades e maximizar o lucro. Uma gestão sustentável de uma cadeia de abastecimento envolve a consideração das questões ambientais de todos os processos envolvidos, mas também as questões sociais e económicas, com o objetivo de minimizar as suas consequências negativas. Contudo, implementar o sustainable supply chain management (SSCM), dificilmente é uma tarefa fácil para a maioria das organizações, pois existem diversos fatores que funcionam como barreiras.Este estudo tem como objetivo identificar e compreender melhor as barreiras ao SSCM, já que este é um passo crucial para as conseguir ultrapassar, procedendo à sua priorização e classificação relativamente à sua importância, através da técnica Best-Worst Method (BWM). Os principais resultados sugerem que as barreiras económicas e financeiras surgem como a principal categoria de barreiras, nomeadamente, a falta de financiamento e de capital para realizar mudanças funcionam como o maior entrave ao SSCM. Deste modo, pode-se concluir que este estudo pode ser útil para organizações que pretendam implementar o SSCM, fornecendo informações sobre as barreiras mais importantes e as estratégias que podem ajudar à sua superação. The increase in activities in different production and/or service sectors, has driven the deterioration of the environment. Consequently, environmental degradation has become an issue of global prominence within organizations. The activities of an organization can affect its environment, both within the organization itself (the supply chain, customers and suppliers) and also outside the organization (the environment, society and the economy). As such, organizations have begun to adopt the concept of sustainability in their supply chains in order to mitigate pollution, improve environmental performance and social well- being, increase the efficiency of the various activities, enhance the brand, develop the company, and maximise profit. Sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) involves considering the environmental issues of all the processes involved, but also the social and economic issues, in order to minimise their negative consequences. However, implementing SSCM is hardly an easy task for most organizations, as there are several factors that act as barriers.This study aims to identify and better understand the barriers to SSCM, since this is a crucial step to overcome them, and to prioritise and classify them according to their importance, through the Best-Worst Method (BWM) technique, so that sustainability in supply chains can be achieved. The main results suggest that economic and financial barriers emerge as the main category of barriers, namely, the lack of funding and capital to make changes in activities and include sustainability, act as the biggest barrier to SSCM. Thus, it can be concluded that this study can be applied to organizations that intend to implement SSCM, providing information about the most relevant barriers and the strategies that can help overcome them.

48. On the economic impacts of COVID‐19: A text mining literature analysis.

Abstract

The COVID‐19 outbreak has affected everyday lives worldwide. As governments started to implement confinement and business closure measures, the economic impact was felt by entire societies immediately. The urgency of such a theme has led researchers to study the phenomenon. Accordingly, the purpose of this research is to provide the state of the art on relevant dimensions and hot topics of research to understand the economic impacts of COVID‐19. In this survey, we conduct a text mining analysis of 301 articles published during 2020 which analyzed such economic impacts. By defining a set of relevant dimensions grounded on existing literature, we were able to extract a set of coherent topics that aggregate the collected articles, characterized by the predominance of a few sets of dimensions. We found that the impact on "financial markets" was widely studied, especially in relation to Asia. Next, we found a more diverse range of themes analyzed in Europe, from "government measures" to "macroeconomic variables." We also discovered that America has not received the same degree of attention, and "institutions," "Africa," or "other pandemics" were studied less. We anticipate that future research will proliferate focusing on several themes, from environmental issues to the effectiveness of government measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
